Held last weekend in the city of Fortaleza, the CBJJ-sanctioned Ceará State championship crowned the black belt Davi Romcy the local boy to beat. The Ribeiro JJ athlete was making his debut at the highest rank in competition Jiu-Jitsu and showed he’s in it to win it.

Inspired by Xande Ribeiro, who held a seminar last week at the Fortaleza branch of his association, Davi tapped out everyone he faced in the competition, taking gold at medium heavyweight and in the absolute division. “I’d like to thank all my students, friends, family, my girlfriend, my masters Thiago Goiabeira and Guilherme Rocha de Faria, as well as the entire Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu team,” said the ace.

In the final of the absolute contest, Davi wrapped a lapel around Helio Mourão of Gracie Barra’s neck to squeeze out a choke from side-control. Watch the hold unfold below:

In the divisions not won by Romcy, Helio Mourão took the heavyweight title, Gilson “Neném” Nunes of Evolution team won the featherweight contest, and also-Evolution rep Lucca França placed atop the lightweight division.

Among the veterans, Francelino Gonçalves of Nova União took top spot in the master open weight division. Now Paulo Ceguim of Evolution took gold at middleweight, Breno Lima of MG won at lightweight, and Osmar Fontes did the same but at heavyweight.

At brown belt, four Evolution athletes closed out the absolute and decided amongst themselves who would get the medals: Alison Viana took gold; Paulo Izaias, silver; while Leandro Silva and Fabio Silva shared bronze.

In the overall team contest, Gracie Barra took first, followed by Brasa and Evolution.

Realizado durante o fim de semana em Fortaleza, o Campeonato Cearense com chancela CBJJ consagrou o faixa-preta Davi Romcy. O atleta da Ribeiro JJ, que estreou na graduação, mostrou que veio mesmo para engrossar o caldo.

Inspirado em Xande Ribeiro, que ministrou um seminário na semana passada na filial de Fortaleza, Davi finalizou todos os seus adversários na competição, ficando com o ouro no meio-pesado e no absoluto. “Queria agradecer a todos os meus alunos, meus amigos, minha família, minha namorada, meus mestres Thiago Goiabeira e Guilherme Rocha de Faria, além de toda a equipe Ribeiro Jiu- Jitsu”, disse a fera.

Na final do absoluto, Davi enrolou a lapela no pescoço de Helio Mourão (Gracie Barra), para estrangular nos cem quilos. Veja abaixo:

O exército de kimono amarrado com a faixa-preta seguiu nas outras categorias. Com Helio Mourão ouro no peso pesado, Gilson Nunes Neném (Evolution) campeão no pena e Lucca França (Evolution) melhor do leve.

Entre os veteranos, Francelino Gonçalves (Nova União) subiu no lugar mais alto do pódio no aberto master.  Já Paulo Ceguim (Evolution) fisgou a medalha dourada da categoria médio, Breno Lima (MG) foi o melhor do peso leve e Osmar Fontes (Ribeiro JJ) também garantiu o ouro no peso pesado.

Na faixa-marrom, quatro atletas da Evolution fecharam o absoluto e decidiram a distribuição das medalhas. Alison Viana ficou com o ouro, Paulo Izaias com a prata, enquanto Leandro Silva e Fabio Silva dividiram o bronze.

Entre as equipes, a grande campeã foi a Gracie Barra, seguida pela Brasa e Evolution.

It happened this past weekend in the Brazilian state of Ceará.

In the master division at Copa Luta pela Vida, in the city of Fortaleza, Paulo Aguiar showed he’s still got plenty of fuel to burn and Jiu-Jitsu to teach. First, the Evolution team representative competed among the old guys, Next, he dove into the adult division. After that, he returned to his age group, where ultimately he won gold in both the master middleweight and absolute divisions.

In the open weight final, Paulo Aguiar tapped out Fabiano Soares with a wristlock from side control. He landed the move when Fabiano, who was on bottom, tried pushing him off. So Paulo grabbed his elbow with both hands and crunched his opponent’s wrist.

Of the 340 athletes signed up for the tournament, the big winner was black belt Lucca França, also of Evolution team, who won the adult middleweight division and closed out the absolute with his teammate Erick Arona.

At brown belt, one of those to receive the most applause was Paulo Paulada of Orestes Combat team, who went to town with an arsenal of takedowns and won the middleweight division. Now Gessy Barbosa of Gracie Barra overcame Iranildo Gigante of MG team, taking superheavyweight gold. There was no absolute for the brown belt division.

O fato aconteceu nesse fim de semana, no Ceará. Foi durante a 6ª Copa Luta pela Vida de Jiu-Jitsu, no Colégio Gustavo Barroso, em Fortaleza.

Atleta master, Paulo Aguiar, o popular “Ceguim”, mostrou que ainda tem lenha para queimar e muito Jiu-Jitsu para ensinar. Primeiro, o representante da Evolution competiu entre os coroas. Depois, caiu dentro no adulto. No fim, voltou para fazer as finais na sua faixa-etária, quando faturou o peso médio e o absoluto master.

Na final do aberto, Paulo Aguiar finalizou Fabiano Soares com um mão-de-vaca no cem-quilos. O golpe foi efetivado quando Fabiano, por baixo, tentava empurrá-lo. Paulo, então, catou o cotovelo com as duas mãos e apertou o punho do oponente.

Entre os 340 inscritos no torneio, o maior vencedor foi o faixa-preta Lucca França, também da equipe Evolution, que venceu a categoria médio adulto e fechou o absoluto com seu companheiro de equipe, Erick Arona.

Na faixa-marrom, um dos mais aplaudidos foi Paulo Paulada (Orestes Combat), que soltou um arsenal de quedas e venceu a categoria médio. Já Gessy Barbosa (Gracie Barra) superou Iranildo Gigante (MG) e ficou com o ouro superpesado. Não houve disputa de absoluto na faixa-marrom.

On the 7th of next July, Demian Maia will be taking on Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 148. The fight against his Korean opponent, who holds just one loss in his 16-fight career, marks the Jiu-Jitsu black belt’s debut as a welterweight.

In the Northeast Brazilian town of Fortaleza to attend today’s Revolução MMA 7 event, Demian had a chat with GRACIEMAG.com about his impending commitment and Jiu-Jitsu in the UFC, and in answering he also shared some precious lessons on how you can improve your gentle-art game in a big way.

“You have to learn to split up your training, split up each specific position. If you’re practicing armbar defense, you can have a partner start already on your arm. It should be someone experienced, to not get hurt. If you’re looking to get good at escaping the triangle, I know it’s unpleasant, but you have to put yourself in a triangle and practice getting out. It’s what you call specific training, which all the Jiu-Jitsu aces tend to do.”

As far as Revolução MMA fight, the marquee fight of the card has the always aggressive Anderson Dentão taking on São Paulo State’s Rodrigo Bidi. Now Hermes França’s nephew, Lucca França, will square off with Carlos Galvão. Check out the complete card:

Demian Maia encara, no dia 7 de julho, Dong Hyun Kim, pelo UFC 148. A luta contra o coreano, que tem apenas uma derrota em 16 combates, marca a estreia do faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu no peso meio-médio.

Em Fortaleza, para prestigiar o evento Revolução MMA 7, que rola hoje no Complexo Crocobeach, Demian conversou com o GRACIEMAG.com e falou sobre o duelo, sobre Jiu-Jitsu no UFC e deixou preciosas dicas para você melhorar e muito seu jogo na arte suave.

“É preciso aprender a dividir o treino, dividir especificamente cada posição. Se você treinar defesa de braço, você pode fazer o cara começar no seu braço, com alguém que experiente, que saiba treinar, para não machucar. Se você quiser ficar bom numa saída de triângulo, eu sei que é chato, mas tem que se colocar dentro do triângulo e ficar treinando a saída. É o treino específico, que todo mundo que é craque no Jiu-Jitsu costuma fazer”.
