Leonard Garcia até tentou dizer que se demitiria caso perdesse a luta contra Cody McKenzie no UFC 159, mas o peso-pena nem teve tempo de fazer isso. Após quinta derrota consecutiva no Ultimate, a organização não teve como segurá-lo e Garcia foi mais um atingido pelo facão afiado do UFC.

O “Bad Boy” sempre foi admirado pelos dirigentes da franquia, que afirmavam que o lutador fazia combates emocionantes, porém, desde que retornou ao Ultimate, Garcia venceu apenas um combate, não dando argumentos para se manter no plantel do evento.

Na tarde desta quarta-feira, o lutador usou o Twitter para divulgar sua demissão, mas aproveitou para afirmar que voltará mais forte do que nunca:

Leonard Garcia enfrenta Cody McKenzie no UFC 159 este sábado, 27 de abril. O peso-pena já está sentindo toda a empolgação nos arredores de Nova York. Os fãs o esperavam no hotel para fotos e autógrafos quando ele chegou na cidade. Este tipo de animação é normal na maioria das lutas de Garcia e Dana White chegou a afirmar que não existe a menor possibilidade de o Ultimate cortar o atleta do plantel, devido a suas atuações e a seu carisma dele com o público.

Mas o “BadBoy” do Texas não parece estar contente após quatro derrotas seguidas e declarou que ele mesmo irá se demitir do UFC caso não vença neste sábado.

“Sinto que se não ganhar esta luta devo sair da organização. Acredito que esta seja a luta mais importante da minha carreira. Será o retorno aos bons momentos ou o declínio onde tenho que parar e pensar nas coisas”.

Tanto no WEC quanto no Ultimate Garcia deixou alguns resultados nas mãos dos jurados, e o peso-pena admitiu que é difícil saber como eles julgam a luta até Bruce Buffer anunciar a pontuação. Garcia ainda afirmou que a melhor forma de evitar isso é não deixar o combate ir até o terceiro round.

“No final das contas você não pode deixar nas mãos dos juízes. Eu sei que Dana White pensa assim, mas sou conhecido pelas decisões divididas”.

O lutador ainda ponderou que os atletas da sua categoria são tão competitivos em termos de habilidades, que decisões divididas tem se tornado algo comum no octógono do UFC, citando como exemplo a luta de Gilbert Melendez e Ben Henderson no UFC on Fox 7.
“É preciso encontrar uma forma de finalizar a luta”, planeja Garcia para seu duelo contra Cody McKenzie no Prudential Arena este sábado.

Mesmo que suas três últimas lutas tenham ido para decisão dos jurados, o americano estabeleceu a meta de vencer o adversário ainda no primeiro round.

McKenzie, assim como Garcia, vem de um revés e este combate será tudo ou nada para os dois lutadores.

Mesmo com uma certa segurança em manter o emprego por causa das lutas excitantes, Leonard acredita que cinco derrotas seguidas seria demais e o ponto decisivo para sua carreira.

Independente destes pensamentos que o assolam, o atleta garantiu que está preparado para dar o seu melhor no desafio do UFC 159 e que ninguém será capaz de tirar dele esta vitória:

“Cody não vai tirar meu emprego. É tudo o que posso dizer”.

UFC 159’s Leonard Garcia is already feeling the buzz in the New York-New Jersey area. An hour into being in the Northeast, Garcia said MMA fans were ready to collect autographs and take pictures with their favorite fighters at the host hotel.

This kind of excitement is also typical in most of Garcia’s fights, which has led UFC President Dana White to say things like “there’s no way in Hell” they’re ever cutting Garcia from the roster. But with a four-fight losing streak, even “Bad Boy” isn’t content with his job security. In fact, he said he’ll cut himself from the UFC roster if he doesn’t get a win on Saturday night.

“I feel like if I don’t win, I’ll give myself my walking papers,” Garcia told GRACIEMAG.com. “I think this is the most important fight of my career. This is either the start to the comeback or the declining spiral to try and figure things out.”

Garcia has been on the losing end of what some may consider close fights during his WEC and UFC tenures. But while he’s lost a few — 10 altogether — he admits that some of his 15 wins have come to him by surprise. It’s difficult to tell exactly what the judges are going to say before ring announcer Bruce Buffer reads the scores, but the best way to avoid that anxiety is to keep it out of their hands, he said.

As his UFC boss has preached in the past, never leave it to the judges.

“At the end of the day, you can’t let it go to the judges,” he said. “I know Dana says that … but I’m notorious for split decisions.”

Maybe it’s his fighting style that keeps matches going to the judges, Garcia explained. There’s also the notion that UFC fighters are so competitive in terms of skill that close decisions are more prevalent in the Octagon. Just last weekend, for example, lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez fought to a split decision and scorecards were all over the place. Half of everyone thought Henderson won while the other half saw it in Melendez’s favor.

While Henderson was the official winner of the fight, Melendez said he thought he won the contest. Either way, one has to finish it before time expires to avoid the uncertainty.

“You have to find a way to finish it,” Garcia said, adding, “it’s just one of those things where our skill levels are so close right now.”

A finish is in Garcia’s crosshairs, and that’s the kind of result he’s planning when he fights Cody McKenzie at the Prudential Arena on Saturday. Despite his last three fights all going to decision, the featherweight said he’s looking to stop McKenzie within the first five minutes of their preliminary card bout.

McKenzie, like Garcia, is coming off a loss, which leads the fighter to believe this is do-or-die fight. Regardless of the job security previously laid out by Garcia’s employers because of his excitement in the cage, he feels like five losses in a row might be pushing it too much. One more loss and it could be all done.

But like the energy coming from fans in New Jersey and the surrounding areas during fight week, Garcia said he’s going to bring it on Saturday night. He said he’s not ready to get his walking papers from anyone. Not his superiors. Not his opponent. Nobody.

“Cody’s not taking my job,” he exclaimed. “That’s all I’m going to say.”

A MGM Arena em Las Vegas recebeu a edição 155 do UFC, nesse sábado. No octagon, Junior Cigano acabou superado por Cain Velasquez e perdeu o cinturão dos pesados. Na batalha mais sangrenta do evento Jim Miller venceu Joe Lauzon por decisão unânime dos jurados. O duelo recebeu o prêmio de melhor luta da noite, já o bônus pelo nocaute e pela finalização do evento  ficaram com Todd Duffee e John Moraga, respectivamente.

After toiling away to make it to his showdown with former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in 100 percent shape, Junior dos Santos never imagined he’d still have some more suffering to do before arriving at his Las Vegas destination.

The Brazilian missed his flight to the United States on Christmas Eve. “Because of the whim of the airline the week has started out awfully for me. It would be easy to shrug it off if I didn’t have an important fight coming up on Saturday. TAM lied and told its customers that the airport was closed, and for reasons unknown to me, they made life rough on me,” Cigano posted on Twitter.

“TAM ruined my trip. It took me six hours of flying to get from Salvador to São Paulo, and then I missed my flight to Vegas. Major lack of respect. This is an outrage,” added the fighter, who finally arrived in the United States today.

Após ralar muito para chegar 100% para a luta contra o ex-campeão Cain Velasquez, Junior Cigano não sabia que teria de sofrer mais um pouco antes de chegar a Las Vegas.

O catarinense radicado na Bahia perdeu o voo para os Estados Unidos na noite de Natal. “Por um capricho da companhia aérea a semana começa pessimamente para mim. Seria simples deixar-pra-lá, se eu não tivesse uma luta tão importe sábado. A TAM mentiu que o aeroporto estava fechado para os clientes e, por uma razão que ainda desconheço, complicou a minha vida”, escreveu Cigano no Twitter.

“A TAM arruinou minha viagem. Levei seis horas de voo de Salvador para São Paulo e perdi meu voo para Vegas. Falta de respeito total. Estou revoltado, é um absurdo”, completou o lutador, que chega hoje aos Estados Unidos.

On the coming 8th of June in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Caio Magalhães will finally be making his UFC debut against also-first-timer Buddy Roberts, 29.

While going through his final preparations at team Nova União headquarters in Rio, the fighter revealed his strategy for winning, and possibly finishing, to GRACIEMAG.com.

“First I’m going to get a feel for the fight. He knows what he’s doing on his feet but always goes to the ground. I’m going to play my game, stand and trade looking for the knockout, but if it goes to my turf I’ll impose my Jiu-Jitsu,” said the native of the Brazilian state of Ceará.

Undefeated in his MMA career, Caio Magalhães was first hired by the UFC to fight at light heavyweight at the UFC Rio show. When his match-up with Fabio Maldonado fell through, he had enough time to shed some weight and join the fray as a middleweight.

“Now it’s the final stretch. I’m training a lot in Rio. I want to show up for the fight in good shape and show my potential,” he stated, before demonstrating one of the positions he intends to use at UFC on FX 3.

“The trick is to put your hand on the hip, keeping your elbow tucked in to not let him get the armdrag. I lower one of my legs and advance; that causes him discomfort on his knee. After raising and lowering it, it’s important to put the knee at his hip and keep the pressure on,” he explains.

The UFC show in Florida will also feature other attraction, for Jiu-Jitsu fans too.Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will square off for a second time to determine who takes on Joseph Benavidez for the title in the fledgling flyweight division. Now another son of Ceará State, Carlos Eduardo “Tá Danado”, will face the USA’s Mike Pierce, while Eddie Wineland toes the line against Scott Jorgensen, a bantamweight Daniel Moraes student. Dustin Pague will do battle with Jared Papazian, while the rampant Erick Silva will be looking to take out Charlie Brenneman, and Bernardo Trekko will be going for his first win under the UFC banner, against Henry Martinez.

No próximo dia 8 de junho, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Caio Magalhães enfim estreia no UFC. Em Fort Lauderdale, na Flórida, o cearense vai encarar o também estreante Buddy Roberts, 29 anos.

Durante os preparativos finais com a cúpula da Nova União no Rio, o lutador revelou ao GRACIEMAG.com sua estratégia para sair com a vitória, se possível por finalização.

“Vou primeiro sentir a luta. Ele é um cara que se comporta bem em pé, mas sempre procura o chão. Então vou fazer meu jogo, trocar e buscar o nocaute em pé, mas se cair na minha praia vou impor meu Jiu-Jitsu”, detalhou o cearense.

Invicto no MMA, Caio Magalhães foi contratado primeiro pelo Ultimate para lutar na categoria meio-pesado no UFC Rio. Como a luta com Fabio Maldonado caiu, ele teve tempo para descer de peso e entrar com tudo na divisão dos médios.

“Agora é a reta final, estou trreinando muito no Rio. Quero chegar bem na luta e mostrar meu potencial”, resume ele, que não se furtou a mostrar uma posição que pretende usar no UFC on FX 3.

“O macete é botar a mão no quadril, encolhendo o cotovelo para não tomar o arm-drag. Eu baixo uma das pernas e me adianto, isso já vai fazê-lo sentir um incômodo no joelho. Depois de levantar e descer, é importante botar o joelho no quadril, mantendo a pressão”, explica.

UFC fighter Scott Jorgensern took a two-week trip to Rio de Janeiro, from April 23 to May 3, at the invitation of his black belt Jiu-Jitsu coach Diego Moraes.

Enchanted by the scenic city, the bantamweight made a point of touring the more popular spots, even paying a visit to the São Janúario stadium, where he watched Vasco da Gama play a game in the Libertadores da American soccer tournament.

Jorgensen was charmed by the children at the outreach projects he visited, delighted with the açaí, and of course, he got in plenty of training. Set to take on Eddie Wineland on June 8 in the UFC, the Jiu-Jitsu purple belt brushed up on his MMA-focused Jiu-Jitsu with Diego and Daniel Moraes at Ilha do Governador, and did Thai boxing with Vander Valverde and Angelo Sergio’s team.

O atleta do UFC Scott Jorgensen passou duas semanas no Rio de Janeiro, do dia 23 de abril a 6 de maio, a convite do treinador e faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Diego Moraes.

Encantado com a beleza da Cidade Maravilhosa, o peso-galo fez questão de conhecer alguns dos mais badalados pontos turísticos da cidade, inclusive um jogo de futebol em São Januário, do Vasco da Gama pela Libertadores da América.

O americano encantou-se pelas crianças dos projetos sociais, vibrou com o açaí fresco e, claro, treinou muito. Com compromisso marcado no Ultimate para o próximo dia 8 de junho, contra Eddie Wineland, o faixa-roxa de Jiu-Jitsu afiou seu chão voltado para o MMA com Diego e Daniel Moraes na Ilha do Governador, e treinou muay thai com a equipe de Vander Valverde e Angelo Sergio.

Best knockout went to Frankie Edgar, for his historic come-from-behind win against Gray Maynard, after nearly being knocked out in the opening round. Now submission of the night honors went to Joe Lauzon, for the rear-naked choke that snapped Melvin Guillard’s winning streak. The fight that had the crowd most excited, Nam Phan taking a unanimous decision over Leonard Garcia, was the best of the night.
