The fight began with Dern trading strikes standing with Stewart and attempting the whole time to shorten the distance to take her opponent down. Halfway through the round, Dern was able to perform an uchi-mata and fell on the mount. From there, Dern threw some strikes and tried for an armbar, which Stewart defended well against. On the bottom, Dern attempted an omoplata, switched to the crucifix and then sank the RNC that forced Stewart to surrender.

Lovato got the belt in April when he beat Marcelo Nunes by TKO in round 2. Despite having moved to MMA, where he’s been training alongside Lyoto Machida and coach Rafael Cordeiro, Lovato keeps active in BJJ at a very high level. In August he managed to win double gold at the World Master Championship.

Cortez “The Crazy Cowboy” Coleman will be debuting at Legacy, having appeared at TUF 16 and being a veteran of Strikeforce and Bellator. He also comes off three straight wins, most recently in June at Freestyle Cage Fighting 53.

O evento Legacy FC 58, a ser realizado no dia 22 de julho, em Los Angeles, terá a estreia de Mackenzie nas grades contra a também estreante Kenia Rosas, como informa o MMA Fighting.

A faixa-preta da Gracie Humaitá terá seu duelo, na divisão peso-palha, no mesmo card no qual Robert Drysdale, faixa-preta líder da Zenith JJ, retorna ao MMA, depois de ser desligado do UFC. O meio-pesado encara Ryan Spenn pelo cinturão da organização.

Mackenzie faz sua estreia no MMA no dia 22 de julho, no Texas, com adversária ainda a ser confirmada. Filha do lendário Megaton Dias, Dern já havia conversado com GRACIEMAG sobre sua possível migração para o MMA.

“Eu sou uma competidora que sempre vai atrás de novos desafios. Com certeza, eu quero chegar ao UFC e ser campeã peso-palha. Se eu vou levar um soco, então eu quero, pelo menos, tomar e me tornar a melhor do mundo. O Jiu-Jitsu sempre estará no meu coração e eu sei que eu tenho a comunidade do Jiu -Jitsu me apoiando, por isso vou fazer o meu melhor para representar a arte suave nnos cages”, disse a bela, que estará em ação neste final de semana, no Pan de Jiu-Jitsu que está rolando em Irvine, Califórnia.

Mackenzie Dern, 2015 black belt open class no-gi world champion

It’s now official.

After announcing at the end of 2015 that she was making slow transition to MMA, Mackenzie Dern has now a set dat for her debut.

Legacy FC announced this Thursday that Dern’s first fight on July 22, in Dallas, Texas against a still undisclosed opponent.

Mackenzie, both a gi and no-gi world champion and also an ADCC champion, is training at MMA LAB, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Earlier this year, Mackenzie talked to GRACIEMAG about her plans coming to MMA: “I am a competitor who’s always going after new challenges! For sure, I want to be the UFC strawweight champion. If I am going to get punched, then I want to at least do it to become the best in the world! Jiu-Jitsu will always be in my heart and I know that I have the Jiu-Jitsu community behind me, so I will do my best to represent the gentle art in the cage.”

Black belt world champion Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes confirmed to GRACIEMAG.com that he was called by the UFC to make his debut in the promotion this Sunday at UFC Fight Night 81, in Boston.

According to Mendes, who has a 5-0 record in MMA, the call came in Saturday evening, through his coach John Crouch: “He called to say the UFC had invited me to fight in one week. We talked a bit and decided to accept the challenge.”

After accepting the challenge, Tanquinho scrambled to get the paper work in order to make the debut possible: “I had to do a bunch of medical tests and send it over so I could sign the contract.”

Tanquinho was in the early stages of his camp for a title fight at Legacy FC, on Feb.5, against Ricardo Ramos, for the bantamweight belt.

That fight is now off, as Tanquinho confirmed: “I had a clause in my contract with Legacy, which stated that if the UFC ever called, I was free to go.”

Mendes said that the short notice changes his schedule a bit, but not much: “I was already on a diet, but now I had to really cut down to make the weight in one week, despite the new fight being in the featherweight division, 10lb heavier than what I needed to make for Legacy. I was already training three rounds and I was going to add two more rounds further down the road, so the difference is that now I have to get ready for a different opponent.”

Tanquinho’s opponent will be Charles Rosa (10-2), who was supposed to fight Jimy Hettes, out with a knee injury during training.

Mendes also said that he has spoken with his teammate and good friend, former lightweight champion Ben Henderson, who told him a little about the opponent: “Ben told me it’s a good match up. He said the guy has a good ground game, but can also strike.”

O Legacy FC, organização na qual Tanquinho luta, anunciou que o atleta estará frente a frente com o também invicto Ricardo “Carcacinha” Ramos em duelo pelo cinturão peso-galo, no evento de número 51 do Legacy, em Minnesota.

Tanquinho, que tem cinco vitórias na carreira, quatro por finalização e uma por nocaute técnico, falou com GRACIEMAG sobre seu próximo combate:

“Eu estava mesmo esperando por esta luta pelo cinturão. Eles me prometeram há duas lutas. Agora é a hora de fato e eu estarei pronto para trazer o cinturão”, disse o casca-grossa antes de concluir com uma análise do seu oponente. “Eu assisti alguma de suas lutas. Ele é faixa-marrom de Jiu-Jitsu e tem boas habilidades no solo. Ele não amarra suas lutas e é bem agressivo quando está na trocação. Ele também é bem alto para a o peso. Será uma grande luta.”

BJJ black belt Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes has the biggest challenge in his still young MMA career scheduled Feb. 5, 2016.

Legacy FC announced today that Tanquinho will be facing undefeated Ricardo Ramos (8-0) for the event’s bantamweight title.

The fight will be the main event of Legacy 51, in Hinkley, MN.

Tanquinho has a 5-0 professional MMA record, with four submissions and one TKO.

Tanquinho talked to GRACIEMAG.com about the fight: “Honestly, I was expecting for this title shot. They promised that to me two fights ago. now it’s here and I will be ready to bring that belt home.”

Mendes also talked a bit about Ramos: “I watched a few of his fights. He is a BJJ brown belt with good ground skills. He does not stall the fights and is very aggressive when standing. He is also pretty tall for the weight class. It’s going to be a great fight.”
