O UFC 160, marcado para maio, vai tomando forma e promete ser eletrizante. Além dos dois confrontos estelares no peso pesado – Cain Velasquez vs Antonio Pezão e Junior Cigano vs Alistar Overeem – o Ultimate anunciou o duelo entre Glover Teixeira e Ryan Bader.

O brasileiro de jogo completo e perigoso vem chamando a atenção desde que chegou ao octagon, com três vitórias incontestáveis sobre Kyle Kingsbury, Fabio Maldonado e Quinton”Rampage” Jackson.

Já Bader, revelado no “TUF 8”, tem um cartel de 15 vitórias em 18 lutas e já bateu Vinny Magalhães, Rogério Minotouro, Keith Jardine, Rampage e, em sua última luta, Vladimir Matyushenko.

Ryan Bader perdeu, em agosto, para um dos principais parceiros de treinos de Glover, Lyoto Machida, que luta neste sábado com Dan Henderson. A embolada categoria até 93kg conta ainda com Alexander Gustafsson, bem na fita para enfrentar o campeão Jon Jones.

Celebrating his birthday yesterday, the red-and-black belt Mauricio Gomes received a congratulations call from GRACIEMAG.com with satisfaction and sense of humor.

“When we reach a certain age, we just celebrate the fact of being alive”, smiled the professor, one of the pioneers in teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in England and Japan.

Maurição is in Rio nowadays, and didn’t celebrate his birthday in the gym training. He was in a rush, he said, but did not lose the opportunity to comment on the victory of his son, Roger Gracie, in Strikeforce.

“I liked it. It was only the first step in the great learning Roger will have from now on. I mean, he had to lose so much weight to fight. But you can’t wait for the last day to lose almost 10 kilos. He had to take 20 sauna sessions to hit 84kg. He can’t do that to his body”, said the professor.

“This dehydrating thing is crazy. At lunch, on the day of the fight, he already was 91kg. Reaching the third round, the body felt it all. He was lucky Keith Jardine was tired too, otherwise the fight would be over for Roger”, analyzes honestly.

“Now, Keith Jardine proved to be a tough one also on the ground. He’s opening his own Jiu-Jitsu gym in the US, he is a good black belt. He was slipping, so much blood and sweat there at the time, but he has proved his worth. In the end, Jardine only survived on the ground, but proved he’s tough”, said Reila Gracie’s ex-husband.

Before concluding, Maurição has shown his sense of humor. Upon knowing that the reporter is going to take a vacation in London, he said:

“Really? Roger is staying in the US until Lyoto Machida’s fight in the UFC, but then he’ll go back to London. Pay a visit at his school and get him squashed!” Laughing, he hung up the phone.

Aniversariante do dia, o faixa-coral Mauricio Gomes recebeu o telefonema de parabéns do GRACIEMAG.com com satisfação e senso de humor.

“Quando a gente chega a uma certa idade, a gente comemora o fato apenas de estar vivo”, riu o professor, um dos pioneiros no ensino do Jiu-Jitsu brasileiro na Inglaterra, Japão e outros países.

Maurição hoje está no Rio, e não celebrou a data treinando. Na correria do dia-a-dia, aproveitou a ligação para comentar a vitória do filhão, Roger Gracie, no Strikeforce.

“Eu gostei. Foi apenas o primeiro passo num aprendizado grande que o Roger vai ter a partir de agora. Digo isso por ele precisar perder tanto peso para lutar. Mas não pode deixar para perder dez quilos no último dia. Ele foi descansado, aí precisou fazer 20 sessões de sauna para bater os 84kg. Não pode”, disse o professor.

“É uma loucura esse negócio de desidratar. No almoço, no dia da luta, ele já estava com 91kg. Chegou no terceiro assalto, o corpo sentiu tudo isso. Ele deu sorte que o Keith Jardine também cansou, se não já era”, analisou com honestidade.

“Agora, o Keith Jardine mostrou  ser um casca-grossa no chão também. Ele está abrindo a academia de Jiu-Jitsu dele nos EUA, é um faixa-preta dos bons. Estava escorregando, muito sangue e suor ali na hora, mas ele provou seu valor. No fim, sobreviveu ao Roger no chão, e valorizou a vitória”, disse o ex-marido de Reila Gracie.

Antes de despedir, Maurição deu mostras de seu senso de humor. Ao saber que o repórter está indo tirar férias em Londres, ele mandou:

“É mesmo, rapaz? O Roger vai ficar nos EUA até a luta do Lyoto Machida, mas depois vai voltar para Londres. Aparece lá na academia para dar um amasso nele!” Às gargalhadas, desligou.

The Saturday Strikeforce event will be rebroadcast in the United States this Tuesday on Showtime, so if you’re planning to watch it and don’t want the outcome to get spoilt, best skip reading this post.

If you’ve ignored the warning and decided to proceed, it’s likely you already know what happened in the main card fight between Roger Gracie and Keith Jardine last weekend in Portland, Oregon. The three-time absolute world champion earned a convincing unanimous decision win after three rounds—which doesn’t mean Roger didn’t go through any tense moments, or learning experiences, as good Jiu-Jitsu masters tend to prefer.

In a conversation with GRACIEMAG.com direct from Lyoto Machida’s Los Angeles residence, where little Tristan Gracie met Machida’s brood, Roger recalled how the turbulence he encountered began even before stepping into the gray cage to toe the line facing his goateed opponent. “They almost had to carry me to the scale to make 84kg. After that I drank six liters of water straight and didn’t feel like going to the bathroom one bit,” said the Gracie with amusement, now that everything has worked out. But we’ll let him do the explaining:

The value of going a full three rounds:

“Though ideally I’d have finished it, the outcome of the fight was actually valuable to me. It was a fight where I learned a great deal, from making weight to my behavior as a fighter, both when in control and when at risk.

“I had the feeling that there were some areas where I was truly comfortable, and others that I couldn’t put to practice in the fight because I lacked confidence. When you’re in there, if you’re not totally confident in a move, you lock up and don’t use it. I did use my jabs and push kicks, for instance, but I didn’t throw my right nor do any combinations, something I’d practiced a lot in training. But I’ll let loose in the next ones.

Cutting weight:

“I left losing a lot of weight till the last minute, and I feel I wore out a lot in the third round because of it. What got me was that I had to shed nine kilos on Thursday before making weight on Friday. That killed me. I spent Thursday and Friday in the sauna; they almost had to carry me to weigh-ins.

“Your body gets too dehydrated by doing that. After making weight I drank six liters of water straight and didn’t even go to the bathroom. I’ll never let that happen again, because it really takes a toll on your body.”

Roger regrets not having strung together more punch combinations, but his fists and reach were helpful in keeping Jardine at bay.

Learning experience on the ground:

“One thing I learned in particular is that, despite my technical superiority where Jiu-Jitsu was concerned, it’s not that easy go finish everyone. And the most important thing was to have found myself in that situation, so that I can learn to ration my energy. I can’t go balls to the wall trying everything I can, nor can I go off halfcocked because my opponent doesn’t offer an opening. There was one point where I landed on his side and in going for the mount I locked down his arm for a long time. Now looking back, I feel I could have tried hitting him more, going for the knockout or submission.

“But on the other hand, we’ve been seeing it crop up a lot: the Jiu-Jitsu fighter mounts, chooses to strike for the knockout, the ref nearly steps in but time runs out or the guy goes out but recovers. After that, you’re worn out and the guy comes back in one piece. That happened to [cousin] Gregor at One FC; he was in a superior position several times, almost came up with the knockout and then wore out. That popped into my head when I was fighting; there was no way for it not to. So I feel it was useful; I didn’t get the finish or throw strikes for the knockout, but I did manage to reason, assess, and ration my energy.”

Best Jiu-Jitsu moments:

“I had a few chances to catch him. In the second round I spent a good while on his back, locked him down with a figure-four around his belly. But that position, while being difficult for him to get out of, also held me back some. What happened when I was on his back was that I kind of got trapped against the fencing and ended up too high on his back. I tried squeezing his neck, but the sweat and blood made him slippery. In a nutshell, I was on his back but wasn’t comfortable enough to attack.

“I ended up slipping out of mount and went for an arm-and-neck choke, but the hold didn’t go in not because I gave up on it; he slipped out and escaped—besides him being slippery, the cage floor too was drenched at that point. When he slipped out and escaped I gave up on the arm-and-neck choke and returned to mount.”

Fighting exhausted:

“And fatigue finally struck in the third round. I wasn’t tired; I was exhausted. I was lucky that he was just as tired as I was, and he had to make up for lost time. I figured I’d won two rounds, so I started fighting to not waste any energy and to not expose myself. ‘I’ll play off his mistakes,’ I thought to myself. And when he came at me, I jabbed and used a push kick I’d perfected with Lyoto. I’d already used that kick with my lead leg in other fights, but this time I practiced doing it with my rear leg with Lyoto. It worked well.

“When I landed two or so push kicks, I could tell that he felt them connect and stopped. That gave me peace of mind to keep him at bay. But there was one moment there in the third round where I felt in danger. It was when he threw a combination that ended with him connecting a hook to my forehead. I got kind of wobbly there. I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe I’m going to lose…’ But I recovered. Perhaps he didn’t realize how much damage I took. I quickly got my wits about me and started fending him off and bobbing again.”

Future at Strikeforce:

“The event was great because there were a lot of fights in my division, so I could see the other guys at my weight in action. I think I’ll have to be more on my toes in the next ones because I’ll likely face younger guys with quicker hands and more explosiveness on the ground. This time I worked a lot on slipping that powerful right hand of his. One of them I slipped and got out; on another of them I shot in and took him down.

“I know now that I have to keep training more to build confidence in some aspects of my standup game without neglecting Jiu-Jitsu and groundwork. Each adversary will present different challenges, and I’d best be ready for that. On the ground, for instance, Jardine seemed not to have a neck and to keep his chin low; it was a lot harder to finish him. But I’m going to keep training; I’ll help out at training at Black House until Lyoto’s fight [against Ryan Bader] at UFC on Fox this August 4.”

After the fight, mission accomplished: “With each new challenge Roger is become a better fighter and person,” remarked Renzo Gracie, his cornerman at Strikeforce.

Se ignorou o aviso e quis continuar, é porque já deve saber como foi a luta de Roger Gracie contra Keith Jardine, válida pelo card principal do evento em Portland, Oregon. O tricampeão mundial absoluto obteve uma convincente vitória por decisão unânime dos jurados após três rounds – o que não significa que Roger não tenha vivido momentos de tensão, ou de aprendizado, como os bons mestres de Jiu-Jitsu preferem.

Em bate-papo com o GRACIEMAG.com, direto da casa de Lyoto Machida em Los Angeles, onde o pequeno Tristan Gracie conheceu os filhotes Machida, Roger lembrou que começou a passar perrengue antes de encarar o feroz barbichinha no tablado cinza. “Quase fui carregado para bater os 84kg. Depois tomei seis litros de água direto, sem nem vontade de ir ao banheiro”, diverte-se o Gracie, agora que deu tudo certo. Mas deixemos que ele mesmo conte:

O valor de ter lutado os três rounds:

“Apesar de o ideal ser a finalização, o desfecho dessa luta foi valioso para mim. Foi uma luta em que pude aprender muita coisa, desde a perda de peso até o meu comportamento como lutador, tanto nos momentos de domínio como nos de risco.

“Eu pude notar que há aspectos onde estou realmente confortável, e outros que eu ainda não consegui botar em prática na luta, por falta de confiança. Chega na hora, se você não está realmente confiante naquele golpe, você trava e não usa. Os meus jabs e chutes frontais eu usei, por exemplo, mas não joguei minha direita nem usei nenhuma combinação de golpes, algo que treinei muito. Mas nas próximas vou me soltando.”

A perda de peso:

“Deixei para perder muito peso na última hora, e acredito que cansei no terceiro assalto muito por conta disso. O que pegou foi que eu precisei perder nove quilos de quinta-feira até a pesagem de sexta. Isso me matou. Tive de fazer sauna quinta e sexta, quase pedi para ser carregado.

“O corpo desidrata demais desse jeito. Depois de bater o peso eu bebi seis litros de água direto e nem fui ao banheiro. Nunca mais deixo isso acontecer, porque o corpo sente mesmo.”

Roger lamentou não ter usado mais combinações de socos, mas os punhos e a envergadura foram úteis para afastar Jardine.

Aprendizado no jogo de chão:

“Aprendi em especial que, apesar da minha superioridade técnica em termos de Jiu-Jitsu, não é tão fácil assim finalizar todo mundo. E o mais importante foi me achar nessa situação, para eu aprender a ir dosando a energia. Não posso ir igual um maluco tentando qualquer coisa, nem me afobar porque o oponente não ofereceu uma boa chance. Houve uma hora em que caí do lado dele, e ao buscar a montada eu dominei o braço dele umas duas horas. Ali eu penso agora que eu poderia ter tentado bater mais, buscando o nocaute ou um bote para finalizar.

“Mas, por outro lado, a gente tem visto isto acontecer direto: o lutador de Jiu-Jitsu monta, escolhe socar para nocautear, o juiz quase interrompe mas o tempo acaba ou o cara quase apaga e se recupera. Aí, você fica cansado e o cara volta inteiro. Aconteceu com o [primo] Gregor no One FC, ele esteve em superioridade em vários momentos, quase nocauteou e depois cansou. Isso vem na cabeça na hora da luta, não tem jeito. Então acho que foi útil, não finalizei nem desci a mão para nocautear, mas consegui raciocinar, avaliar e me dosar.”

Os melhores momentos no Jiu-Jitsu:

“Houve algumas chances de pegar. No segundo round, fiquei nas costas dele um bom tempo, tranquei o triângulo na barriga dele, mas essa posição, se é ruim dele sair, também me travou um pouco. O que houve ali nas costas foi que fiquei meio preso na grade e acabei ficando muito alto nas costas dele. Tentei arrochar o pescoço, mas o suor e o sangue contribuíram para que ele escorregasse. Em resumo, eu estava nas costas mas não estava tão confortável para atacar.

“Acabou que escorreguei dali para a montada e fui para o katagatame, mas o golpe não encaixou porque desisti não. Ele que escorregou e escapou – além dele o tablado também tava ensopado a essa hora. Quando ele escorregou e escapou foi que eu larguei o katagatame, e voltei para a montada.”

A hora de lutar exausto:

“E no terceiro round, enfim, o cansaço bateu. Cansado não, ali eu estava exausto. Minha sorte foi que ele estava tão cansado quanto eu, e ainda tinha de correr atrás. Eu imaginava que tinha vencido os dois assaltos, então passei a lutar para não gastar mais força e não me expor. Vou jogar malandramente no erro dele, pensei. E quando ele veio para cima de mim, usei o jab e o pisão frontal que aperfeiçoei com o Lyoto. Eu já usava muito esse pisão com a perna esquerda nas outras lutas, mas agora pratiquei com o Lyoto usando a perna de trás. Funcionou bem.

“Quando acertei uns dois pisões, vi que ele sentiu e parou. Isso me deu mais tranquilidade para me manter afastado. Mas houve um momento em que senti perigo, no terceiro assalto. Foi quando ele combinou um golpe que terminou num cruzado na minha testa. Ali eu fiquei meio bamba. Cheguei a pensar: ‘Não acredito que eu vou perder…’ Mas me recuperei. Ele talvez não tenha percebido quão abalado eu estava. Voltei ao normal rapidamente e passei a afastá-lo e a esquivar de novo.”

Futuro próximo no Strikeforce:

“O evento foi legal pois teve bastante lutas da minha categoria, então pude ver o pessoal do meu peso em ação. Acho que nas próximas tenho de ficar mais ligado, pois a tendência é enfrentar caras mais jovens, com punhos ainda mais rápidos e mais explosivos no chão. Desta vez eu treinei bastante a esquiva daquela direita potente dele. Uma eu esquivei e saí, outra eu entrei e derrubei.

“Sei que agora é continuar treinando para ganhar mais confiança em alguns aspectos do meu jogo em pé, sem descuidar do Jiu-Jitsu e dos ajustes no chão. Cada adversário vai apresentar uma dificuldade diferente e é bom estar pronto. O Jardine, por exemplo, no chão parecia que não tinha muito pescoço e um queixo para dentro, ficou ainda mais duro de finalizar. Mas é continuar treinando, vou ficar ajudando nos treinos da Black House até a luta do Lyoto no UFC on Fox 4 (contra Ryan Bader), no dia 4 de agosto.”

Após a luta, missão cumprida: “A cada desafio o Roger está se tornando um lutador e um homem melhor”, comentou Renzo Gracie, seu córner no Strikeforce.

The Strikeforce promotion put on a memorable evening in Portland, Oregon, thanks to the two title fights; a handful of ex-UFC fighters; a win from Ryan Couture, the son of a legend; and the Gracie on the card. In the audience, stars like MC Hammer brightened up the night.

Roger Gracie made his debut as a middleweight and demonstrated confidence, after suffering a knockout at the hands of King Mo and bidding farewell to the light heavyweight division. Having done a stint training with Lyoto Machida at Black House in Los Angeles, Roger displayed his newfound skill at slipping punches and safely closed the distance on Keith Jardine to take him to the ground.

With exception to the third round, Roger managed to wrestle his opponent to the ground and masterfully control the former UFC fighter throughout. Round one saw him mount and rain punches and elbows down on Jardine’s face, opening up gashes in the process. The Gracie looked set to bring a close to the bout in the final seconds, but the bell cut short his attack.

In the scond round, Roger got his chin out of harm’s way in the nick of time and again drug Jardine down. There, the Gracie saw his best shot at a decisive win, mounting, sinking his hooks, then a figure-four around the waist, before mounting and launching an arm-and-neck-choke assault. Again the bell sounded, and the five minutes of the round were not enough to conclude the encounter.

In the third and final round, with both fighters showing fatigue, Roger only managed to keep Jardine at a distance with jabs and push kicks, biding his time till the final bell.

“I’m glad I got to put my game to practice. I took him to the ground and controlled him but he was slippery from so much blood and knew how to hang on. I kind of wore out in the third round, but I think I left a few too many kilos to lose till the last minute, and that resulted in my fatiguing at the end,” explained Roger while still in the gray cage. “But I’m satisfied; every time I step into the ring to represent Jiu-Jitsu and my family makes me happy.”

When it was all over, the score cards came in deeming the three-time absolute world champion of Jiu-Jitsu the victor by unanimous decision.

“It’s a really important result for me, especially because I’m coming off a knockout loss. Keith’s a tough guy who’s beaten a lot of good guys before. I hope to tire less next time around. I was affected some by the weight-cut. That’s the biggest lesson for me in this fight—cutting weight properly and smoothly. It was good that he got tired too, though,” remarked Roger.

In the rest of the card, former UFC star Nate Marquardt had his work cut out for him in overcoming a game Tyron Woodley and his mother, who cheered the fighter on from start to finish. Following a three-round, back-and-forth standup firefight, the fourth frame saw Marquardt land two elbows that unseated Woodley, and a hook sealed the deal.

Now in the evening’s main event, Luke Rockhold got the better of Tim Kennedy for five rounds and took the unanimous decision. Check out the complete results:

Foi uma noite memorável para o Strikeforce em Portland, Oregon, graças a um card com duas disputas de cinturões, alguns tantos ex-lutadores do UFC, uma (boa) luta de Ryan Couture, filho da lenda, e ainda um Gracie no card. Na plateia, astros como MC Hammer enfeitavam a noite.

Roger Gracie estreou no peso médio (até 84kg) e mostrou confiança, ele que estava vindo de um nocaute no peso meio-pesado, pelos punhos de King Mo. Após uma série de treinos com Lyoto Machida na Black House, em Los Angeles, Roger apresentou boas esquivas e investidas com segurança para colar em Keith Jardine e botar para baixo.

Com exceção do terceiro assalto, Roger conseguiu derrubar e exercer amplo domínio no ex-lutador do UFC. Na primeira parcial, montou e desceu os murros e cotovelos no oponente, abrindo cortes no rosto de Jardine. O Gracie partiu para definir nos últimos segundos, mas o gongo soou sem a finalização.

No segundo assalto, Roger tirou o queixo da reta na hora certa e levou Jardine novamente para baixo. Foi a melhor chance do Gracie na luta, quando ele montou, botou os ganchos, encaixou o triângulo nas costas, voltou a montar e tentou o katagatame. Novamente, na última hora o gongo soou, e os cinco minutos não foram suficientes para o bote certeiro.

No terceiro e último assalto, com ambos cansados, Roger apenas manteve Jardine à distância com jabs e chutes frontais, esperando o gongo soar.

“Fiquei feliz por ter conseguido botar meu jogo em prática, levei ele para o chão e controlei, mas ele estava escorregadio, muito por causa do sangue, e soube resistir. Cansei um pouco a mais no terceiro assalto, mas acho que deixei para perder muitos quilos na última hora, e isso acabou resultando no meu cansaço no fim”, explicou Roger ainda no cercado cinza. “Mas estou satisfeito, cada vez que piso nesse ringue para representar o Jiu-Jitsu e a família isso me faz mais feliz”.

No fim, as papeletas decretaram a vitória do tricampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu por decisão unânime.

“Foi importante o resultado, especialmente por eu ter vindo de um nocaute. Keith é um cara duro que já venceu muita gente boa por aí. Espero cansar menos na próxima vez, senti um pouco o esforço de perder peso. Foi minha maior lição na luta, como perder peso de forma mais correta e suave. O bom foi que ele estava cansado também”, comentou Roger.

Nas demais lutas, o ex-astro do UFC Nate Marquardt teve que suar para vencer o duro Tyron Woodley e sua mãe, que apoiou o lutador do início ao fim. Depois de três rounds de pura trocação e domínio alternando para ambos os lados, no quarto tempo Marquadt acertou duas cotoveladas que desmontaram Woodley, aí mais um gancho selou o resultado final.

Já na confronto principal, Luke Rockhold foi melhor que Tim Kennedy nos cinco assaltos, e levou por decisão unânime dos jurados. Veja os resultados:

O treinador e professor de Jiu-Jitsu Renzo Gracie falou sobre o desafio do primo Roger amanhã, no Strikeforce, ao site Sexto Round. O Gracie confia no sucesso de Roger no sábado, mas alerta que Jardine tem um dos melhores jogos de chão no MMA, apesar de não usá-lo pelas suas características como atleta.

Renzo falou ainda do novo peso de Roger e deixou uma lição de vida: “Na vida há duas formas de você aprender: ouvindo os mais experientes ou aprendendo na pele”.

“Lyoto’s a sensational guy. We’re helping each other a lot, I think, and not just in the ring. We’re just starting to become good friends, as we haven’t known each other very long,” said the Gracie. “Our styles complement each other. If I can pick up a bit of his standup game of darting in and out, I’ll be a complete fighter.”

Some of the greatest fighters on the planet did battle this Saturday in San Diego. And there was no lack of action at Strikeforce event held in San Diego, as you can see in the photos by Esther Lin.

In the evening’s main event, welterweight champion Nick Diaz successfully defended his belt against the dangerous Paul Daley, a former UFC fighter. The Cesar Gracie student notched his tenth win in a row and twenty-fifth of his career (25w-7l-1d), by first-round knockout. Now he sets his sights on a future showdown with his UFC counterpart, Georges Saint-Pierre.

Another Cesar Gracie student defending his title on the night, Gilbert Melendez too was more than rose to the occasion. He put away stalwart Japanese fighter Tatsuya Kawajiri by TKO also in the first round.

In other main card fights, former UFC fighter Keith Jardine fought to a draw with Gegard Mousasi, while submission savant Shinya Aoki imposed his Jiu-Jitsu on Lyle Beerbohm, winning by rear-naked choke still in the first round.

Alguns dos melhores lutadores do planeta estiveram em ação neste sábado, em San Diego, em mais uma edição do Strikeforce, e não faltou ação, como é possível observar nas fotos de Esther Lin.

Na principal luta da noite, o campeão meio-médio Nick Diaz manteve o cinturão contra o perigoso Paul Daley, ex-lutador do UFC. Ainda no round inicial, o aluno de Cesar Gracie nocauteou para chegar à 10a vitória seguida, a 25ª da carreira (25v-7d-1e). Nos planos, um futuro combate contra Georges St-Pierre, campeão da mesma categoria, mas no UFC.

Aluno de Cesar Gracie que também defendia o título, mas o de leves, Gilbert Melendez também foi bem em seu desafio. Contra a fera do Japão Tatsuya Kawajiri, conseguiu o nocaute técnico na primeira parcial.

Em outras das lutas principais, o ex-UFC Keith Jardine empatou com Gegard Mousasi. Já a fera da luta de chão Shinya Aoki impôs o Jiu-Jitsu contra Lyle Beerbohm e finalizou com um mata-leão, ainda no primeiro assalto.

American Top Team rep Danillo “Indio” Villefort faced the tough Joey Villaseñor at the 13^th installment of Shark Fights this Saturday in Texas. After three lively rounds, the Jiu-Jitsu black belt was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

Paul Daley, who was fired from the UFC after hitting Josh Koshcheck after the final bell at UFC 113, dominated three rounds against Jorge Masvidal and won by unanimous decision. Now Houston Alexander landed a string of strikes to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, obliging the referee to call an end to the fight in the second round.

In the evening’s main event, Keith Jardine, a former “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show contestant who has faced some of the biggest names of all times like Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, couldn’t get into the game against the event’s light heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley, and dropped a split decision.
