This Saturday in San Jose, California, a team of MMA aces will invade Strikeforce.

Worth the welterweight title belt, Jiu-Jitsu black belt and current champion Nick Diaz faces off with KJ Noons in a rematch bound to make sparks fly. Diaz lost to Noons in October 2007 at the now-defunct EliteXC promotion. The loss, the last on his record, came by way of doctor’s intervention.

“I feel good and making weight went almost perfectly. I’ve been mad about it for a long time (because of the first fight). I didn’t like the way it ended. I never considered the first fight a loss. I always saw it as a fight that was stopped prematurely. I don’t feel that now is a chance for revenge, but I’m happy to fight,” says Diaz.

“I love fighting and love my work. I trained really hard and I’m excited about Saturday. It’s a fight the fans want to see. I respect Nick as a fighter, I like to watch him fight, but I really am ready to face the best in the division. In the first fight I went after Nick because he never backs down. But I’ve been working on all aspects of my game. I’m certain that at some point he’s going to try and take me down, but I’m ready for anything,” says Noons in response.

Another big-name to see action is Gesias Cavalcante. The ATT representative was for a time one of the best lightweights on the planet, a two-time K-1 Hero’s GP winner. This Saturday, JZ will have Josh Thomson across the cage from him.

“It will be an excellent fight and I’m really anxious to make my Strikeforce debut. I like being in fights the fans want to see and talk about. It’s my chance to make a name for myself in the United States. I spent some time out due to injury, but I worked really hard with my teammates, who helped me get back into the game. But there’s nothing like a real fight,” he says.

Thomson promises to make things rough for the Brazilian:

“I have to beat him everywhere, there’s no way around it. JZ fought some of the best in the world. He’s probably the biggest and toughest I’ve ever faced, so I know I have to put it all on the line and see what happens,” he remarks.

André Galvão will be making his third appearance for the promotion, against Tyron Woodley. The black belt will have an undefeated fighter ahead of him (8w). Galvão guarantees he knows how to subdue his opponent.

“Tyron is a really tough fighter, a top wrestler who has fought three times in Strikeforce. I’m excited and I have a good game plan. I’m ready.

Another promising fight on the card is the welterweight female matchup between Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen.

Neste sábado, em San Jose, na Califórnia, um time de craques do MMA invade o Strikeforce.

Valendo o título de meio-médios, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu e atual campeão Nick Diaz encara KJ Noons numa revanche de tirar o fôlego. Diaz fora derrotado por Noons em outubro de 2007, ainda no EliteXc. A derrota, sua última, foi por intervenção médica.

“Me sinto bem e o corte de peso foi quase perfeito. Estava com raiva há bastante tempo (por causa da primeira luta). Fiquei chateado pelo jeito que acabou. Nunca considerei a primeira luta uma derrota. Eu sempre a vi como uma luta que foi parada precipitadamente. Não sinto que agora é uma vingança, mas estou feliz por lutar”, diz Diaz.

“Adoro lutar e amo meu trabalho. Treinei muito duro e estou animado para sábado. É uma luta que os fãs querem ver. Tenho respeito por Nick como lutador, gosto de vê-lo lutar, mas estou realmente pronto para enfrentar os melhores da categoria. Na primeira luta eu trabalhei para ir para cima contra o Nick , porque ele nunca vai para trás. Mas tenho trabalhado todos os aspectos do jogo. Tenho certeza que em algum momento ele vai tentar me derrubar, mas estou pronto para qualquer coisa”, responde Noons.

Outro grande lutador em ação vai ser Gesias Cavalcante. O representante da ATT marcou época como um dos melhores pesos leves do planeta, bicampeão no GP do K-1 Hero’s. Neste sábado, JZ vai ter Josh Thomson pela frente.

“Esta será uma excelente luta e estou realmente ansioso por  estrear no Strikeforce. Gosto de fazer parte de uma luta que os fãs querem ver e falar. É a minha chance de fazer o nome nos Estados Unidos. Fiquei fora um tempo por causa das minhas lesões, mas trabalhei muito com meus parceiros de equipe, que me ajudaram a ficar no jogo. Mas não há nada como uma luta real”, fala.

Thomson promete dar trabalho:  

“Tenho que vencê-lo em todos os lugares, não há outro jeito.  JZ lutou com alguns dos melhores do mundo. Ele é provavelmente o maior e mais duro que já encarei, então eu sei que tenho que colocá-lo sobre a linha e ver o que acontece”, declara.

André Galvão faz a terceira apresentação na organização contra Tyron Woodley. O faixa-preta vai ter um lutador invicto pela frente (8v). Galvão garante saber o caminho para deter o oponente.

“Tyron é um lutador muito duro, um cara top de wrestling, que já lutou três vezes no Strikeforce. Estou animado e tenho um bom plano. Estou pronto.”

Outra luta que promete é entre  Sarah Kaufman e Marloes Coenen, pelo título meio-médio feminino.

Gesias Cavalcante is all set to face Josh Thomson at the October 9 Strikeforce show in San Jose, California. The fighter spoke of the fight at the promotional press conference and promises to show all the heart and technique that put him at the top of the lightweight pecking order, winning the K-1 Hero’s Grand Prix twice over. Check out the interview with Cavalcante by our correspondent Nalty Jr.

How do you feel about fighting in the United States?

I want to thank Strikeforce and Scott Coker for getting me back to the USA. It’s been a while since I fought here. It’s a pleasure to me, even more so because Josh is a former champion and this will be a tough fight. It’s no easy task, but life’s not easy. I like challenges and I think the fans want to see this fight. As the fans want to see the fight, I’m happy to be fighting in the USA at Strikeforce.

Do you feel any pressure for this fight?

I don’t feel any pressure, especially because people here don’t know me and don’t know what to expect. So there’s no pressure at all. There’s more pressure when people know you and expect you to do well. I’ve been through situations where I felt pressure from the fans, who create a lot of expectations. I’m not putting any pressure on myself to do well. I know what I’m capable of. I know I train hard and have an excellent training camp, one of the best in the world. I have a great team. I just need to keep focused, in control and balanced.

You’ve only been fighting in the ring lately. What are your thoughts on making the move to the cage?

I train in the cage a lot. Most of my teammates fight in the cage, so I train with them. My game works well in the cage, sometimes even better than in the ring. I feel there are pros and cons to the cage and ring, but I always see the pros in my favor. I’m working hard and nothing is different. A fight’s a fight wherever it may be.

Will you be going for the finish?

I’ll have my eye on everything. We’re both complete fighters and the fight could play out standing or on the ground. So I’m not focused on any one thing in particular. My concern is fighting hard for 15 minutes. If he makes a mistake, I’m going to capitalize on it and win.

Do you feel better now, after suffering so many injuries?

I feel fine. I fought in July. It was a good fight, lasted 15 minutes, but I felt a bit rusty due to injury. But now I’m healthy, much more confident mentally and physically. I’m training well, thank God.

Is it harder to fight in your opponent’s backyard?

I’m always fighting in someone else’s territory. I know it’s different in Japan, where everyone is more calm and respectful. Here people shout and boo. But a fight’s a fight. I’m fine with that.

O que acha de lutar nos Estados Unidos?

Quero agradecer ao Strikeforce e ao Scott Coker por me trazer de volta aos EUA. Faz muito tempo que eu não luto aqui. É um prazer para mim, ainda mais porque o Josh é um ex-campeão e vai ser uma luta dura. Não é uma tarefa fácil, mas a vida não é fácil. Eu gosto do desafio e acho que os fãs querem ver essa luta. Como os fãs desejam assistir a esta luta, eu estou feliz por combater nos EUA e no Strikeforce.

Você está se sentindo pressionada para este combate?

Eu não sinto pressão, especialmente porque as pessoas não me conhecem e não sabem o que esperar. Portanto, não há pressão alguma. Há mais pressão quando as pessoas conhecem e esperam que você vá fazer bem. Já passei por situações de pressão dos fãs, que criam muitas expectativas. Eu não estou colocando pressão em mim para ir bem. Eu sei do meu potencial. Eu sei que estou treinando forte e tenho um excelente camp de treinamento, um dos melhores do mundo. Tenho uma grande equipe. Eu apenas preciso manter o foco, o controle e o equilibrado.

Você vinha se apresentando apenas em ringues. Acha que vai se adaptar bem ao cage?

Eu treino muito na gaiola. A maioria dos meus colegas luta na jaula, então eu treino com eles. Meu jogo funciona bem no cercado, às vezes, até melhor do que no ringue. Eu acho que no cage ou no ringue existem prós e contras, mas eu sempre vejo os prós a meu favor. Estou trabalhando duro e nada é diferente. Luta é luta em qualquer lugar.

Vai buscar a finalização?

Eu vou olhar para tudo. Ambos somos lutadores completos e a luta pode ser em pé ou no chão. Então, não estou focado em nada em particular. Estou preocupado em lutar duro por 15 minutos. Quando ele cometer um erro, eu posso agarrá-lo e vencer.

Se sente melhor depois de tantas lesões?

Estou me sentindo bem. Lutei em julho. Foi uma luta boa, de 15 minutos, mas me senti bem enferrujado por causa da lesão. Mas agora eu estou saudável, muito mais confiante mentalmente e fisicamente. Estou treinando bem, graças a Deus.

Lutar na casa do adversário é mais difícil?

Estou sempre lutando no território de alguém. Sei que é diferente no Japão, onde todos são tranquilos e respeitosos. Aqui as pessoas gritam e vaiam. Mas luta é luta. Estou bem com isso.
