Quatorze anos depois de deslocar o braço de Renzo Gracie, em combate eletrizante no Pride 2000, o caçador Kazushi Sakuraba está de volta à selva e quer mais uma vitória para a coleção.

Para Renzo, aos 47 anos, será a chance de mostrar que foi apenas um deslize, e que sua técnica é superior a do japonês. A luta está confirmada para o Metamoris 5, em Long Beach, Califórnia, no dia 22 de novembro.

“Naquele dia eu desapontei o Jiu-Jitsu”, reflete Renzo, feliz pela revanche, no vídeo oficial do torneio de lutas casadas.

Em outra luta que promete, o astro do UFC Rory MacDonald aceitou medir forças com a fera do Jiu-Jitsu americano Jonathan Torres, o JT.

The dispute of the Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Pan warmed the week in Irvine, Calif. with high-level matches. On Sunday, the eight mat areas were like a red carpet for Michael Langhi (Alliance), who made his return to competition and did well. He got the gold medal in the lightweight closing the division with his teammate Lucas Lepri.

But, before the final, things weren’t easy for Michael, and he had to pass the semifinal against the tough Jonathan Torres, JT. After the fight, the pupil of Rubens ‘Cobrinha’ commented on the triumph with reporter Ivan Trindade:

“The fight against JT was very hard, but I managed to sweep and then submit with a choke from the back,” he recalled.

Langhi was out of the Pan and the Worlds last year because of a setback in his visa to the U.S. Rubens ‘Cobrinha’s student talked about the feeling of winning again on the mats of California:

“The feeling is of being alive again. It is always a pleasure to have Lucas (Lepri) beside me as a fight companion, we feel stronger with each other. I spent one year without coming to the United States, but I’m back and I started the year very well, winning the European and the Pan. Surely there’s more to come,” said the Brazilian, who is confirmed in the Lightweight GP in Copa Pódio, on May 3 and then in the Worlds.

And he promises even more news:

“I have played more on top, wanting to pass the opponents’ guard more. I feel even more confident in any situation, very comfortable both on top as on bottom,” he explained.

A disputa do Pan de Jiu-Jitsu da IBJJF esquentou a semana em Irvine, na Califórnia, com disputas de alto nível. No domingo, as oitos áreas de combate foram como um tapete vermelho para Michael Langhi (Alliance), que fez seu retorno à competição e se deu bem. Ele ficou com a medalha de ouro ao fechar o peso leve com o parceiro Lucas Lepri.

Antes da final, porém, Michael não teve moleza, e precisou passar na semifinal pela pedreira Jonathan Torres, o JT. Após a conquista, o aluno de Rubens Cobrinha comentou o triunfo com o repórter Ivan Trindade.

“A luta contra o JT foi muito dura, mas consegui raspar e depois finalizar no estrangulamento pelas costas”, lembrou.

Langhi ficou fora do Pan e do Mundial do ano passado por conta de um empecilho no visto para os EUA. O aluno de Rubens Cobrinha comentou a sensação de voltar a vencer nos tatames da Califórnia.

“O sentimento é de estar vivo de novo. É sempre um prazer ter o Lucas (Lepri) ao meu lado como companheiro de batalhas, nos sentimos mais fortes um com o outro. Fiquei um ano sem vir aos Estados Unidos, mas estou de volta e comecei o ano muito bem, ganhando o Europeu e o Pan. Com certeza ainda tem mais por vir”, disse o paulista, que está confirmado no GP dos Leves da Copa Pódio, dia 3 de maio e depois no Mundial 2013.

E ele promete ainda mais novidades:

“Tenho jogado mais por cima, querendo passar mais a guarda dos oponentes. Estou me sentindo ainda mais confiante em qualquer situação, muito à vontade tanto por cima quanto por baixo”, explicou.

In 2012, Jiu-Jitsu shone bright on an array of different stages. From the UFC octagon to the high school gym, where it triumphantly led the battle against bullying, the gentle art was stellar the entire year.

But it was in the realm of competition that the techniques were honed, tested and approved, to the delight of the multitudes of the sport’s aficionados.

The superfighters fought valiantly from January to December—both men and women, making a best-of-the-year ranking for 2012 all the more complicated to produce.

After much deliberation and voting, with the commentary from our readership on Facebook as a barometer, our team painstakingly put together the following list of the five matches that made the biggest impact in 2012.

Em 2012, o Jiu-Jitsu brilhou nos mais diversos palcos. Do octagon do UFC aos colégios estudantis, onde brilhou como arma eficaz contra o bullying, a arte suave fez bonito o ano inteiro.

E foi nas competições que as técnicas foram lapidadas, testadas e aprovadas, para deleite de uma multidão de aficionados pelo esporte.

Os superlutadores fizeram bonito de janeiro a dezembro – tanto os homens como as mulheres, o que torna esta retrospectiva das lutas inesquecíveis de 2012 ainda mais complicada.

Após votação e muito debate entre nossa equipe de reportagem, sempre de olho no termômetro dos leitores, na seção de comentários e no Facebook, elegemos, a muito custo, as cinco lutas que mais mexeram com a gente em 2012.

This past weekend was replete with Jiu-Jitsu of the highest quality in Texas, at the IBJJF Houston Open that took place at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, with the likes of the Mendes brothers, André Galvão, Marcello Salazar, Stephen Hall, Diego Gamonal, James Harbison, Pablo Santos, Ryan Hall, and a lightweight who ended up with two gold medals and the status of big standout of the event.

That lightweight is none other than Lloyd Irvin academy’s Jonathan Torres, Houston Open champion of the lightweight and absolute divisions. To win at weight. he overcame Bruno Amorim in the division final, while to take top spot in the absolute, he had to face his training partner James Harbison in the absolute final.

EARLY-SEASON TOURNEY, IN-FORM JIU-JITSU

At featherweight, Gui Mendes placed first, with his brother, Rafael, in second. At medium heavyweight, André Galvão defeated Diego Gamonal in winning the gold. And Marcello Salazar won in the heavyweight division.

Another little guy to outdo the big guys was Gracie Elite’s Gianni Grippo, who won the brown belt absolute. As well as the featherweight division. In the team contest, Gracie Barra was rampant in the overall team competition, winning both the trophies: the kids, as well as the adult/masters categories.

O fim de semana foi de Jiu-Jitsu de altíssimo gabarito no Texas, no Houston Open da IBJJF. Realizado nas dependências do Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, o campeonato teve a participação de estrelas do quilate dos irmãos Mendes, André Galvão, Marcello Salazar, Stephen Hall, Diego Gamonal, James Harbison, Pablo Santos, Ryan Hall, e um peso leve terminou com duas medalhas douradas e com o status de destaque do evento.

Trata-se de Jonathan Torres (Lloyd Irvin), campeão no peso leve e no absoluto. JT venceu Bruno Amorim na final do peso, e encarou o parceiro de treinos James Harbison na final do absoluto.

Começo de temporada, Jiu-Jitsu em forma

No peso-pena, Gui Mendes sagrou-se campeão, com o irmão Rafa em segundo. No meio-pesado, André Galvão venceu Diego Gamonal para levar o ouro. E Marcello Salazar levou o ouro no peso pesado.

Outro magrinho a se consagrar foi Gianni Grippo (Gracie Elite), campeão no absoluto na faixa-marrom, depois de vencer também o peso-pena. Entre equipes, a Gracie Barra sobrou e levou os dois troféus em disputa, os títulos do infantil e do adulto/masters.
