Widely considered to be one of the top MMA trainers in the world, Greg Jackson paid a recent visit to our GMA in Singapore Evolve Gym. Coach to the likes of UFC stars Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Shane Carwin and Georges Saint-Pierre, not to mention Rolles Gracie, Nate Marquardt, Andrei Arlovski, Joe Stevenson and others, Jackson taught a lesson in MMA technique.

In the following video, he teaches an omoplata, as well as proper use of elbows and fists during ground and pound.

Por lá, o americano que treina astros do UFC como Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Shane Carwin e Georges St. Pierre, além de feras do MMA como Rolles Gracie, Nate Marquardt, Andrei Arlovski, Joe Stevenson e muitos outros, passou algumas técnicas de MMA.

If current UFC lightweight champion Frank Edgar has Ricardo Cachorrão by his side, his rival BJ Penn struck back by getting himself a world champion with MMA credentials. Bibiano Fernandes, Brazilian from the state of Amazonas known as “The Flash” for his submissions back in his gi days, took part in BJ Penn’s training camp in Hilo, Hawaii, in preparation for this Saturday’s UFC 118 event in Boston.

But the flame of desire to retake his belt didn’t seem to flicker all that high in BJ Penn, at least early in his training, as witnessed by Bibiano, as reported on the Sensei Sportv blog.

“He didn’t say anything to anybody, only the ones who trained with him knew he was sick during the first fight, at UFC 112,” said Bibiano to Sensei Sportv’s Renato Rebelo.

“He was really sick during the fight in Abu Dhabi. Now, when I got there to train, he was sort of discouraged by the loss. I tried to pick his spirits up as much as I could. He wasn’t training much, just doing two rounds. I’d tell him the whole time, ‘You’re BJ Penn, dude, the best in the world. Hold your head high, let’s do it.’ During the camp his flame lit, he became motivated and now he’s really strong, mainly in the mental part of the fight. Now he does all five rounds no problem,” said the featherweight Dream GP champion now living in Vancouver, Canada.

Bibiano said he has complete confidence in victory for BJ, the owner of the belt ever since the 2008 bloodbath with Joe Stevenson. “His Jiu-Jitsu is incredible; he has a game all his own, no one else has it. We train in the gi to smooth things out and strengthen his grips and to refine his technique, too, but the greater emphasis was on no-gi training. He’s really nimble, has fantastic hands. I, who trained with him, can say that no matter what situation he’s in, he’s tough. The guy is too tough. He wants this belt back and he’ll surely go after it,” said the Amazonas native, who won’t be in the former champion’s corner. His wife is pregnant in Canada, and he’ll watch on TV.

As bonificações do UFC 110, que aconteceu neste sábado, na Austrália, foram de US$ 50 mil. Pelo nocaute contundente sobre Rodrigo Minotauro, Cain Velasquez garantiu a premiação extra.

A melhor luta da noite foi para a surpresa do evento, o australiano George Sotiropoulos, que mostrou muita técnica, seja no Jiu-Jitsu ou boxe, e derrotou o favorito Joe Stevenson – este, apesar da derrota, também fatura o bônus.

Já a melhor finalização foi para Chris Lytle, uma chave de joelho em 1min41s sobre Brian Foster.

The “Best of the Night” bonuses for UFC 110, which took place this Sunday in Australia, amounted to U.S. $ 50,000 each. For his concussive knockout of Rodrigo Minotauro, Cain Velasquez secured the extra cash.

The best fight of the night went to the surprise of the event, Australia’s George Sotiropoulos, who showed great technique, both in Jiu-Jitsu and boxing, in overcoming favored-to-win Joe Stevenson – the latter, despite being beaten, took home the bonus, too.

The best submission reward went to Chris Lytle, a kneebar 1:41 min into his fight with Brian Foster.

Cain Velasquez preserved his unbeaten record (eight fights) against Rodrigo Minotauro. In the striking department, the landed good shots from the start, always anticipating the Brazilian’s movement. After landing a two-punch sequence, Velasquez saw Minotauro crash to the ground, whereby he followed up with more blows, and ended the fight at 2:20min of the opening round. Now the fighter has earned his shot against reigning heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

“I’m very proud and appreciate the work of the entire team. I wanted to be fighting standing. I wanted to hit him before he hit me, “said Velasquez.

“I’m sad. He was faster than me and deserved to win. One of the best fighters in the world,” said Minotauro, while still in the octagon.

The lead up to this fight saw much provocation exchanged between the two. The one who came out best was Wanderlei Silva. Bisping shot for takedowns and tried to avoid the standup, but Wand, when taken down, quickly got to his feet. In the second round the Brazilian landed some good strikes and managed to get the takedown to work his ground and pound. In the end of the round, he nearly ended it with a guillotine before time ran out. In the final stanza, Wand went all out in striking, landing solid punches, and after a knockdown, nearly defined the match, as the final bell sounded. Thus the “Axe Murderer” took the judges’ decision.

“We have had bad times in our career, but we have to work hard,” said Wand.”Rafael Cordeiro is the best coach in the world, incredible,” he added, even joking about the plastic surgery apparent on his face.

“Now I’m pretty!”

George Sotiropoulos vs Joe Stevenson

George Sotiropoulos was an unpleasant surprise for Joe Stevenson. The Australian showed great Jiu-Jitsu in the first round. On top, he reached the mount and nearly finished with an armbar. In the following round, he showed dominant striking, too, and landed solid punches. When he found himself on the ground, he swept with an omoplata and caught his opponent in an arm-triangle. Although Stevenson fought on even terms in the final round, to the end, Sotiropoulos took a well-earned unanimous decision, to the delight of local fans.

Ryan Bader vs Keith Jardine

Despite takedowns being his forte, it was with a punch, flying knee and follow-up punch that Ryan Bader overcame Keith Jardine. The fight was evenly matched until the third round. Bader got the takedown in the first round and Jardine worked his striking in the second. The knockout came at 2:10min of the third and kept up Ryan’s unbeaten record.

Anthony Perosh was called on two days before the event to replace Ben Rothwell. The Australian tried to hold out and put up a front for his fans, but it wasn’t enough. In the initial round, Cro Cop stalked him the whole time and landed solid blows. He got a knockdown and came close to defining it. The second set was no different and with an elbow during the ground and pound, he opened a large gash on his opponent’s face. Perosh again showed willingness and continued, but the match was disrupted during the break before the third round
