Tenha boas pegadas

Saiba usar a pressão

Use a cabeça

Herbert, who is the brother of UFC fighter Gilbert Durinho, uses his elasticity here to lasso his opponent’s arm in the first submission attempt. As soon as that opponent seeks an angle to escape, Herbert employs another two simultaneous finishes — on the neck with the inverted triangle, and on the arm with the kimura — putting an end to all resistance.

“I finished the first one with a d’arce choke in under two minutes,” he told Graciemag. “In the final I applied a takedown, went to the back and finished via rear naked choke. It was only two fights, but it’s always good to go back and compete in BJJ.”

Burns, who recently moved to Florida to train alongside his brother Gilbert Durinho, says he wants to keep at it and is open to superfight invites. “Here in the U.S. there is a grappling event nearly every weekend,” he says. “Like I said, I like competing in BJJ, and that helps keep me in shape for MMA.”

He adds: “My last fight was in February. I expect to fight in June or July. Meanwhile I’ll keep up my pace by competing in gi an no-gi.”
The post Herbert Burns celebrates Miami Open victory while awaiting MMA bout first appeared on Graciemag.

There, Herbert will have training partners like Robbie Lawler, Rashad Evans, Kamaru Usman and Michael Johnson.

“The human material here is very plentiful,” he told Graciemag recently. “The quality of the coaches is excellent. Henri Hooft is the main coach and takes care of the team’s standup, but we have the help of Sean Soriano, a former UFC fighter. For the wrestling side of things, there is Greg Jones — a three-time NCAA champion. And there is my brother, Gilbert Durinho, teaching the BJJ part. The team is not big, but it has a more open mentality. Anyone can come here and train, exchange experiences. I am very happy with this move.”

Herbert moved to Florida thinking about his next bout at One Championship. His last fight under the organization was in February — the first loss in his career. “I hope to fight again in June or July,” he said. “That is my goal. I hope to set the fight soon to ramp up my training and seek redemption in the event.”

While his next MMA appointment is still up in the air, Herbert says he plans to stay active in BJJ, so chances are we’ll get to see him make an appearance on the weekend of May 13 at the Miami Open, at the Florida International University Arena.
The post Herbert Burns on moving to Florida, seeking redemption in the cage first appeared on Graciemag.

One Championship

Herbert Burns had never tasted the bitter taste of defeat. Defending his invincibility and looking for a chance to fight for the One Championship featherweight belt, he faced Russia’s Movlid Khaibulaev in Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 10. After three rounds, Burns saw his foe’s hand raised, and a streak of six wins wasn’t going to be extended further. The brother of Gilbert Durinho, who had gone almost two years without fighting, lamented the loss.

“I dedicated myself a lot,” he said. “I did my best to be able to train, since I didn’t have money due to not fighting for so long. I wasn’t able to travel to the United States as I had planned; I didn’t have a defined team, but I was able to train with my friends in Niterói. Thales Leites, Emerson Falcão, Leandro Ataídes — everybody embraced me. I went a lot of time without fighting, and One gave me a tough, active guy. But I’ve never been one to run from a fight — I’ve taken on many tough opponents, — so I went into the fight confident. But things didn’t turn out as I imagined. So kudos to him. I hope someday throughout my career to do a rematch with him.

“I have to absorb this loss and move forward. I’m not happy with the loss; I’m not used to losing; it’s something that hurts me, but now I must learn from this loss and try to improve. Looking on the bright side, this loss showed me some errors in my game. So it’s time to look at these errors and work on them to come back better. As soon as I am 100% recovered, I will ask for a new fight and will seek a win to to keep going toward the belt.”
The post Herbert Burns thinks of new challenge following first MMA loss first appeared on Graciemag.

Oss!

“1. FOQUE NO BÁSICO.

10. JIU-JITSU ENSINA A VIVER.

[Based on a press release.]

After one year away from the cage, Herbert Burns will be back this February at One Championship. The event will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 10th. Burns will go head to head with Movlid Khaibulaev, who, like the Brazilian, is undefeated in MMA.

Burns talks respectfully of Khaibulaev, whom he deems well rounded:

I’ve never had an easy time at One and I did not expect any different. He’s coming to show what he can do, but he will be facing a guy who’s already consolidated in the organization. So it will be a war! I’ve trained a lot, I’m always evolving, and I will come out of this fight victorious.

Burns used his time away to perfect his game. Following a season in Thailand, he trained in Miami with his brother Gilbert Durinho and Blackzillians coach Henri Hooft, and then continued the work in his hometown of Niteroi.

Although he has been working hard on his striking — including training with Emerson Falcão, José Aldo’s Muay Thai coach, and having UFC athlete Thales Leites as a sparring partner, — we should expect to see Burns attempt to make his seventh MMA bout his fifth win by submission.

BJJ is my forte. Whenever I have a chance, I will take down and use my BJJ. It is what I have been managing to do throughout my MMA career. But without exposing myself. I’m sure I’ll have an ample advantage on the ground, but, in MMA, it’s the smarter guy who wins — not the braver one.

The post Herbert Burns encara russo embalado no One FC 27 e projeta cinturão first appeared on Graciemag.

1. Cinto de segurança sem pressão

3. Colocar a mão por baixo do braço do adversário
