A equipe de GRACIEMAG listou sete técnicas de craques do Jiu-Jitsu feminino para você estudar e incluir em seu jogo, nos treininhos com e sem kimono. O arsenal reúne finalizações que consagraram estas atletas nos eventos mais prestigiados da arte suave e outras posições que são indispensáveis no Jiu-Jitsu destas feras. Confira a lista abaixo.

1. Kyra Gracie

Nossa GMI à frente da escola Gracie Kore, na Barra da Tijuca, Kyra ensina o triângulo da guarda-fechada que lhe garantiu seu primeiro título do ADCC, em 2005, na cidade de Long Beach, Califórnia. Na ocasião, Kyra finalizou Leka Vieira na final até 60kg, na edição que marcou a estreia das mulheres no renomado evento de Tahnoon bin Zayed.

2. Mackenzie Dern

Mackenzie Dern é uma estrela em ascensão no UFC. Antes, a americana-brasileira se consolidou como uma competidora formidável no Jiu-Jitsu e sagrou-se campeã mundial em 2015. Diretamente da Tatu Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, no bairro da Tijuca, no Rio de Janeiro, Mackenzie preparou um de seus ataques favoritos quando competia com kimono. Trata-se do crucifixo a partir da chave omoplata.

3. Gabi Pessanha

Gabi Pessanha confirmou o favoritismo no Europeu 2023, disputado no mês de janeiro, em Paris, e anotou seu segundo ouro duplo consecutivo na competição. Na final do absoluto, a craque Infight finalizou Thalyta Silva com um estrangulamento da guarda fechada, depois da adversária resistir ao triângulo, para ser coroada no aberto.

4. Hannette Staack

Multicampeã no Jiu-Jitsu na primeira década dos anos 2000, Hannette preparou três de suas técnicas mais refinadas com o auxílio do professor André Terêncio, na Brazil 021, em Chicago, em idos de 2013. Dona de cinco títulos mundiais na faixa-preta e três do ADCC, Hannette detalha duas passagens de guarda e um contra-ataque do legdrag. Atualmente, aos 44 anos, Nette dedica-se ao MMA e contabiliza o cartel uma vitória desde que estreou na modalidade, em outubro do ano passado. 

5. Mayssa Bastos

Mayssa é especialista no berimbolo e utiliza a posição como principal arma para enfileirar oponentes no peso-galo. A tricampeã mundial na faixa-preta compartilhou momentos da preparação para o Pan 2022 e mostrou ajustes para você afiar o berimbolo nos treinos com kimono.

6. Nika Schwinden

Faixa-preta formada em psicologia e campeã mundial master, Nika Schwinden, nossa GMI à frente da GB Curitiba, é uma liderança entre as mulheres da Gracie Barra e fomenta o público feminino a vestir o kimono. Nika abriu a caixa de ferramentas e arquitetou uma raspagem da guarda-aranha, técnica imprescindível em seu jogo arrojado.

7. Virgínia Macedo

Nossa GMI nos Emirados Árabes Unidos, a professora Virgínia Macedo preparou uma técnica para você pegar o passador desprevenido. A posição consiste numa raspagem de lapela com a mecânica da chave de omoplata. Quando ficam em pé, a professora entra com um gancho numa das pernas da oponente, desestabiliza-a e mantém firme a pegada na faixa para evitar que a adversária escape. Depois, Virgínia parte para as costas e encaixa um estrangulamento.

Women first competed in the World Jiu-Jitsu championship in 1998. First they all competed in the same division, without any separation of belts.

In 2007, the first open class division took place and Michelle Nicolini grabbed the gold medal. Only in 2012, black belt women had a division exclusive to them, without the presence of brown belts.

In 2014, the IBJJF inducted its first ever Hall of Fame class and six ladies received the highest honor in Jiu-Jitsu: Gabrielle Garcia, Kyra Gracie, Michelle Nicolini, Bianca Andrade, Leticia Ribeiro and Hannette Staack.

As we approach the 21st edition of the Worlds, we look back to see who are the most accomplished female competitors in the history of Jiu-Jitsu’s most important event.

Michelle Nicolini 

With 8 gold medals as a black belt since 2006, Nicolini leads the pack in terms of appearances on the top of the podium. She is also the lightest competitor to win a black belt open class belt, which she took home in 2007. Michelle announced that the 2016 Worlds will be her last one, as she transitions to MMA. We will sure miss her.

Beatriz Mesquita

With six gold medals, Bia competes in the black belt division since 2010. She won the lightweight division four times (2012-2015) and topped the podium at the open class in 2013 and 2014. A black belt under Leticia Ribeiro, Bia was not in the first class of the IBJJF Hall of Fame, in 2013, but should be in the second one.

Gabrielle Garcia

With six gold medals at the black belt division at the Worlds, Gabi also has two open class titles. She’s been competing in the black belt division since 2008, when she won the heavyweight division for the first time. Gabi’s last appearance at the Worlds was in 2013, as she is now dedicating herself to a successful MMA career at Rizin FF.

Hannette Staack

A seven-time world champion, Hannette Staack built an impressive career on her way to the hall of fame. She won her first gold medal in 2002, when black belts competed with brown belts and purple belts. After that, she lined up titles in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011. The only thing missing was an open class gold medal, but that does not make Hannette’s run less amazing.

Letícia Ribeiro 

Another seven-time world champion, Leticia Ribeiro kept on top of the game between 2000 to 2012, with three titles in the featherweight division and four in the light-featherweight. Leticia built her legacy and is also responsible for the formation of talents like Bia Mesquita, Ana Carol Lebre, among others.

Bianca Andrade

Six-time world champions, Bianca Andrade (later Barreto) is another of the original hall of fame members in the female division. She won six world titles from 2001 to 2009, become the athlete with the most titles in the female featherweight division.

Luanna Alzuguir

With five world titles from 2009 to 2013, including an open class title in 2010, Luanna is definitely part of the team of great champions in the female division. She was one of the most consistent competitors of her generation. She had thrilling battles with Kyra Gracie and Michelle Nicolini, just to name two.

With four titles including one open class gold medal, Kyra Gracie also made to the hall of fame. Her greatest year was 2008, when she walked out of the Long Beach Pyramid with two gold medals. She almost repeated the feat in 2009, but Michelle Nicolini and Lana Stefanac got in her way. Kyra made her final appearance at the Worlds in 2010, closing a five-year run at the podium with another gold medal at the lightweight division.

It’s a last minute call, but worthy having a go because of the quality of the program.

Hannette Staack, Michelle Nicolini and Karen Antunes will band together for a charity seminar this Saturday, March 12.

It’s going to be a 3-hour seminar with the three black belts followed by a superfight between Karen and Michelle.

The event will take place at the Ajax Budokan Judo Club, on 75 Centennial Rd., Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

The proceeds will go to Up With Women, a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap from homelessness and deep poverty to economic and social empowerment for women and girls.

Multiple times World and ADCC champion Hannette Staack and a group of brown belts from her academy Brazil 021 will be holding a fundraising event to empower women within the BJJ community.

The event is scheduled March 6, at the Arlington Heights location.

The event will consist in a self-defense seminar and a co-ed BJJ class.

Cheryl Kosche is a blue belt at Brazil 021, in Chicago, Illinois.

She started training in 2014, when she joined Professor Hannette Staack’s women’s class.

Soon after that, Cheryl was diagnosed with cancer and the toughest battle of her life began, as she tells us: “A year and a half ago I started treatment for cancer. Since then I have had 8 surgeries (4 major) and 2 drug treatments. Last November, I had another major surgery and had 6lbs of tumors removed from my abdomen along with some other organs. Thankfully the tumors were not cancerous, just really big.”

Throughout all this time, one thing helped Cheryl to keep on going: “Despite all of this, this past Saturday was very special as I returned to BJJ. While I kept trying to train during my treatment, I never felt good. Saturday I not only trained normal but felt great afterward. While I was muscle sore from being out of shape, I felt better than I can remember feeling in a very long time.”

As the physical part of BJJ is important, Cheryl’s story stresses how vital is the bond within the Jiu-Jitsu community for those going through hard times: “I want to thank Professor Hannette Staack and Professor Andre Terencio for all your kindness and support. In all my years I have never experienced anything like it. Every time I was really down, someone from Brazil 021 would reach out from somewhere in the country at the exact right time.”

One person was specially important: ” I think Professor Hannette has psychic powers. When I met Professor Hannette and wanted to try the women’s BJJ class, I could never have imagined how important she would become to me and how much she would help me through the toughest time in my life. I am so happy to back!!”

The Brazil 021 Project helps underprivileged kids in Rio de Janeiro through the teaching of the gentle art.

GMA members Hannette Staack and Andre Terêncio will be hosting a very special seminar next December 19, at Brazil 021’s HQ, in Chicago. Sixth degree black belt Carlos Henrique will be in the city to teach a whole day of classes. The event kicks off at 9AM and ends at 3:30PM.

Carlos Henrique is the Professor responsible for graduating Terêncio to the black belt. The daily schedule will include classes for kids and adults, both at beginner and advanced levels. The best of all is that there’s a Black Friday special and you’ll pay less if you sign up until Nov. 27.

They will be teaching two seminars on the same day at Brazil 021 Jacksonville.

Líderes da escola Brazil 021, Hannette Staack e André Terêncio estarão no Brasil para um seminário especial, agendado para o dia 8 de agosto.

O seminário vai arrecadar fundos para o projeto do social dos professores na comunidade do Borel, no Rio de Janeiro.

O momento é bom na academia: dois faixas-azuis juvenis do projeto voltaram com medalhas do Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu 2015, em maio.

Hannette and Team Brazil 021

GMA members and leaders of Brazil 021 in Chicago, Hannette Staack and André Terêncio will be in Brazil for a very special seminar on August 8.

The seminar will raise funds for the social protect Staack and Terêncio lead in Rio de Janeiro, called Projeto Brazil 021.

All the proceeds will go to the needs of the kids that train with the project at the Borel community in Rio, including gis, trips for tournaments, etc.

Two juvenile blue belts from the social project came to the USA to compete at the 2015 Worlds and got back home with two bronze medals.

You can contribute to the project by buying a ticket to the seminar (even if you can’t go to Rio).

All donations will go directly to the institution.
