This past weekend on Mar. 22, Master Ricardo Cavalcanti of GMA Carlson Gracie Training Center – Cavalcanti BJJ in Las Vegas, NV paid tribute to Master Carlson Gracie. In the beautiful country of Guatemala in Central America, Cavalcanti shard his knowledge through the an open Jiu-Jitsu seminar.

This was the second time he has given a seminar to the people of Guatemala where he now has a permanent affiliate school in both Guatemala City and Antigua.

Also at the seminar, Cavalcanti awarded promotions through the first belt test along with his second degree black belt Olaf Alfonso Cavalcanti. They promotoed over 50 students during their visit.

The visit is dedicated to Grandmaster Carlson Gracie Sr.

While there, he met UFC veteran Ivan Salaverry for some no-gi training.

He took the time to record a technique video that he just shared with GRACIEMAG.

The delegation from Shinzo in the Presidential Palace in Guatemala

GMA member Ricardo Cavalcanti was recently in Guatemala to attend MMA event Shinzo.

The event had the presence of MMA stars such as Stephan Bonnar , Phil Baroni, Ivan Salaverry, Mauricie Smith, Stephan Quadros and Nick Blongren.

The event received wide attention from the local media and a delegation was invited to the Presidential Palace to meet with Guatemala’s Culture Minister.

Ricardo, who is the leader of Cavalcanti BJJ – Carlson Gracie Las Vegas, also took part of an autograph signing in a shopping center, where he was amazed with how Guatemalans know Jiu-Jitsu: “People would shout the phrase ‘Nothing is more important than Jiu-Jitsu.'”

At the end, Ricardo promised to go back to Guatemala to teach a free BJJ seminar next December, when Shinzo 2 will take place.

Look how every now and again Jiu-Jitsu scores a big goal for the community.

Gracie Barra’s brand of uniforms GB Wear ordered 2,000 Lycra rash guards and 1,200 pairs of shorts from US company Grounded Athletics, but the pieces all came with a tiny defect.

Rather than get all ruffled up about it, the folks at the school founded by Carlos Gracie Jr. decided to donate the garments to youths in need.

“First we and Grounded Athletics decided to donate the clothes to some outreach program dealing with sports, martial arts or aquatics, to make the most of them being made out of Lycra,” recounted Marco “Piu-Piu” Joca.

“Things got even better, though, and we ended up striking up a partnership with a Guatemalan project working with kids living in shacks near landfills. The project’s aim is to raise funds to build houses for these children and their families, as well as to provide clothes and sanitation material. The outreach project works alongside a number of other efforts to provide food, schooling, medical attention and whatever else the children need,” said Piu-Piu.

The outcome was that the brand new clothes reached the children, who were overjoyed and made good use of the GB Wear/Grounded Athletics shorts and shirts. It all fit into Jiu-Jitsu and Gracie Barra philosophy nicely.

“GB Wear through Jiu-Jitsu is seeks out from five to ten projects in Brazil and the rest of the world per year. The philosophy of Grandmaster Carlos Gracie and our master Carlos Gracie Jr. – and now the Gracie Barra family – is to use Jiu-Jitsu to contribute to humanity, improving it every day. GB Wear, being a GB’s uniform and clothing division, follows the same line of thought,” said Marco in closing, reinforcing the team’s new motto, “Jiu-Jitsu for everyone.”

Olhem como volta e meia o Jiu-Jitsu faz um golaço pela comunidade.

Marca de uniformes da Gracie Barra, a GB Wear ordenou 2 mil camisas de lycra e 1.200 bermudas da empresa Grounded Athletics nos Estados Unidos, mas as peças vieram com um pequeno defeito.

Em vez de se descabelarem, a escola fundada por Carlos Gracie Jr. decidiu doar os trajes para jovens necessitados.

“Primeiro, decidimos, juntamente com a Grounded Athletics, doar as roupas para algum projeto social relacionado a esportes, de lutas ou aquáticos, para aproveitar a lycra”, contou Marco “Piu-Piu” Joca.

“Porém, a coisa melhorou, e acabamos fazendo uma parceria com um projeto na Guatemala para crianças que vivem em barracos próximos a campos de despejo de lixo. Esse projeto tem como obetivo levantar fundos para construir casas para essas crianças e seus familiares, além de fornecer roupas e materias sanitários. O projeto social reúne diversas iniciativas para prover alimentos, estudo, atendimento médico e tudo que as crianças precisam”, diz Piu-Piu.

O resultado foi que as roupas, bonitonas e novinhas, chegaram para as crianças, que ficaram super felizes e disputaram firme, no bom sentido, as camisas e shorts da GB Wear / Grounded Athletics. Tudo dentro da filosofia do Jiu-Jitsu e da Gracie Barra.
“A GB Wear procura através do Jiu-Jitsu ajudar em torno de cinco a dez projetos por ano, no Brasil e no mundo. Last March 30, instructor Roberto Fleischmann taught a special class to a attentive and select group.

He was dealing with the US special forces, members of a troop stationed at an American military base in Guatemala. The men in green enjoyed their hand-to-hand combat lessons. “Phenomenal, very realistic training,” remarked one serviceman. “Jiu-Jitsu is an indispensable weapon to our Army.”

Roberto Fleischmann targeted self-defense and defense against weapons in the class– and he too got excited. “The group did really well, it was an honor to contribute to soldiers’ training.

The head instructor at Gracie Guatemala – an academy affiliated with the Valente brothers –, the Royce Gracie black belt has been training for 15 years and travels with his students frequently for lessons at our GMA Gracie Miami.

No último dia 30 de março, o instrutor Roberto Fleischmann deu uma aula especial para uma turma atenta e seleta.

Tratava-se de um grupo especial de militares dos EUA, membros da tropa que está instalada numa base americana na Guatemala. Os homens de verde gostaram das lições e treinamentos corpo-a-corpo. “Fenomenal, é um treino bem realista”, constatou um militar. “O Jiu-Jitsu é uma arma indispensável para o arsenal de nosso exército”.

Roberto Fleischmann concentrou a aula na defesa pessoal e nas técnicas de defesa contra armas, e também se entusiasmou. “A turma foi muito bem, fiquei honrado de contribuir para o treinamento dos soldados”.

Instrutor chefe da Gracie Guatemala – academia ligada aos irmãos Valente –, o faixa-preta de Royce Gracie treina há 15 anos e viaja com seus alunos com frequência para aulas na nossa GMA Gracie Miami.
