The most important MMA organization in the USA after the UFC has signed two GMA members to fight in one of their events.

UFC veteran Tom DeBlass, leader of Ocean County BJJ, in New Jersey, will face King Mo Lawal in a light heavyweight fight at Bellator 131, next Nov. 15, in San Diego.

The fight was rescheduled after an injury sustained by DeBlass prevented it from happening in a prior date.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt João Paulo Faria, Professor at Gracie Humaita Del Mar, was also signed to compete in the same event.

His opponent is yet to be defined.

Professor Joao Faria of GMA Gracie Del Mar will be at Gracie Southeast Missouri on August 11 to teach a seminar.

The avid competitor and teacher consistently stays at the top of the podiums at competitions he enters and proves his techniques time and time again.

A team of Jiu-Jitsu superstars will gather to teach a very special seminar on Sunday, February 23.

Royler Gracie, Marcus Buchecha, João Faria, Regis Lebre and Zak Maxwell will join for class which proceeds will go to pay the medical costs of black belt Gustavo Dias.

Professor at GMA member academy Gracie Del Mar, Dias got injured at the ultraheavy final of the 2013 American Nationals, against Raphael Goulart.

He had to go through a costly surgery on his right knee and now is in recovery.

GMA member Joao Faria of Gracie Del Mar will travel to Missouri for a seminar at GMA academy Gracie Humaita St. Louis on Nov. 3.

Professor Joao recently placed third in his division at the 2013 IBJJF Masters and Seniors Worlds. He also placed first at the 2013 Pan Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship the weekend before in New York. And before that he won his MMA fight.

A proud instructor who focuses on helping his students as well as leading by example with an active presence in the competition scene, he has much knowledge to offer.

The seminar will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and open to all teams and affiliations.

2. Não se limite às competições

“É preciso amar o que faz e estudar muito. E não só o Jiu-Jitsu de competição: a arte vai muito além disso. O pessoal hoje esquece um pouco da defesa pessoal, e com isso acaba perdendo de vista alguns ótimos fundamentos. Pense no Jiu-Jitsu como um todo.

3. Aprenda com seu professor fora do tatame também

“Veja como seu mestre se comporta também fora do tatame, está aí parte da receita do sucesso dele. Aprendo muito com o Royler, um exemplo a ser seguido em termos de alimentação, postura, família.”

GMA member Joao Faria of Gracie Del Mar invites everyone to come to the Gracie Humaita Headquarters in San Diego, CA to celebrate the life of Grand  Master Helio Gracie. If he were alive today, Helio would be 100 years old.

A gathering at the academy will pay tribute to the pioneer of Jiu-Jitsu with an open mat and an opportunity to watch Royler Gracie’s home movies.

The time is set for 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and is open for any person regardless of affiliation.

Joao Johnny Faria had his MMA fight on Saturday, August 24 in Oceanside, CA. The Beatdown at the Beach event brought many Jiu-Jitsu supporters and practitioners into the crowd as the card held local BJJ stars. The 170 title fight, however, was between Johnny Faria and Manny Garcia, which ended before it could really start.

The black belt from GMA Gracie Del Mar immediately took down his opponent with a double-leg takedown, got into mount and a ground and pound ensued. In order to shy from the strikes, his opponent turned but gave Johnny a clear path to his back and a rear-naked choke ended the fight in the first round.

The fight ended well before the two-minute mark. Many of the Gracie Humatia supporters were present to give Johnny the loudest crowd.

João Faria MMA fight Beatdown at the beach

GMA member and black belt João Faria has a MMA appointment this Saturday.

The leader of Gracie Del Mar will be competing on the Beatdown on the Beach event, in Oceanside, CA.

He will be fighting Manny Garcia.
