GMA member Diogo Valença is offering a new class at Gracie Barra Paços dos Arcos, in Portugal.

Starting this September the school will be opening a class for the “miudos” (as the Portuguese like to call their kids).

The class will be available for children from 4 years old and up.

Jiu-Jitsu is a great way for children to exercise and to develop a stronger self-estem.

A segunda edição do Nacional Open Jiu-Jitsu Portugal reuniu a comunidade da arte suave no país no dia 20 de novembro. O evento foi organizado pelo nosso GMA Diego Valença, da Gracie Barra Paço dos Arcos, vice-presidente da Federação Portuguesa de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro (FPJJB), filiada a IBJJF.

O evento foi um sucesso, tendo envolvido praticantes de todas as idades e sexo, com atletas de 4 anos até 54, num dos maiores eventos realizados na Europa em 2010.

Entre as equipes, ficou em primeiro a Arte Suave, do professor Marco Carneiro; seguida pela Nova União Fight Planet, do professor Manoel Neto, e a Vita Team, comandada por Sérgio Vita, que também é nosso GMA.

“Parabéns a todos os atletas pelo comportamento perfeito e espírito esportivo. Também gostaria de expressar a nossa gratidão para com os professores, pelo grande trabalho na divulgação de Jiu-Jitsu em nosso país “, diz a FPJJB através de um comunicado. .

The event was a huge success with athletes ranging from 4 to 54 years old.

The massive attendance of competitors made this years event the biggest so far.

The final teams results were as fllows:

1) Arte Suave – Prof. Marco Carneiro
2) Nova União Fight Planet – Prof. Manoel Neto
3)  Vita Team – Prof. Sérgio Vita (also a GMA member)

The FPJJB released on its website the appreciation for all involved in the event: “Congratulations to all athletes for the perfect behavior and sportsmanship. We also like to express our gratitude towards the professors for their great work on spreading BJJ in our country”.

Now, the Portuguese BJJ community gets ready for the 2011 European Open, scheduled January 27th-30th.
