Arquibancada lotada e alguns dos melhores lutadores do Jiu-Jitsu cearense nas áreas de luta. Essa foi a rotina no Campeonato Nordeste, que rolou domingo, no ginásio do SESC Centro, em Fortaleza, Ceará.

Novamente, Helio Mourão dominou a faixa-preta e conservou o trono de Rei do Nordeste. O representante da Gracie Barra bateu Daniel Silveira (Ribeiro JJ) na final do absoluto, após vencer Ian Carneiro (Nova União) na semifinal, na competição da FJJCE. Helio também fisgou o ouro no superpesado.

Na faixa-preta, Ian Carneiro (Nova União) foi o melhor do peso leve e Daniel Silveira (Ribeiro JJ) venceu o médio.

No master, Alex Chaves (Brasa) garantiu o ouro no absoluto e no médio. Outros que mandaram bem entre os veteranos foram o potiguar Wekcilley Cruz (Atos JJ), campeão no pena master, e Francelino Gonçalves (Nova União), que venceu o absoluto e o pesadissimo sênior.

Na faixa-marrom, o destaque foi peso médio Alvaro Fontes (SAS), que foi implacável no absoluto e na categoria.

Entre as equipes, a grande campeã foi a Gracie Barra, seguida pela Brasa e pela Evolution.

Packed stands and some of the best Jiu-Jitsu players in the Brazilian State of Ceará—routine at the Northeastern Brazilian Championship, held last Sunday at Fortaleza, Ceará’s SESC Centro gymnasium.

Again, Helio Mourão dominated the black belt division and hung on to his title of the King of the Northeast. The Gracie Barra representative overcame Daniel Silveira of Ribeiro JJ in the absolute final after beating Ian Carneiro of Nova União in the semfinal. Helio also claimed gold in the superheavyweight division.

In the team contest, Gracie Barra came in first, followed by Brasa and Evolution.

Held last weekend in the city of Fortaleza, the CBJJ-sanctioned Ceará State championship crowned the black belt Davi Romcy the local boy to beat. The Ribeiro JJ athlete was making his debut at the highest rank in competition Jiu-Jitsu and showed he’s in it to win it.

Inspired by Xande Ribeiro, who held a seminar last week at the Fortaleza branch of his association, Davi tapped out everyone he faced in the competition, taking gold at medium heavyweight and in the absolute division. “I’d like to thank all my students, friends, family, my girlfriend, my masters Thiago Goiabeira and Guilherme Rocha de Faria, as well as the entire Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu team,” said the ace.

In the final of the absolute contest, Davi wrapped a lapel around Helio Mourão of Gracie Barra’s neck to squeeze out a choke from side-control. Watch the hold unfold below:

In the divisions not won by Romcy, Helio Mourão took the heavyweight title, Gilson “Neném” Nunes of Evolution team won the featherweight contest, and also-Evolution rep Lucca França placed atop the lightweight division.

Among the veterans, Francelino Gonçalves of Nova União took top spot in the master open weight division. Now Paulo Ceguim of Evolution took gold at middleweight, Breno Lima of MG won at lightweight, and Osmar Fontes did the same but at heavyweight.

At brown belt, four Evolution athletes closed out the absolute and decided amongst themselves who would get the medals: Alison Viana took gold; Paulo Izaias, silver; while Leandro Silva and Fabio Silva shared bronze.

In the overall team contest, Gracie Barra took first, followed by Brasa and Evolution.

Realizado durante o fim de semana em Fortaleza, o Campeonato Cearense com chancela CBJJ consagrou o faixa-preta Davi Romcy. O atleta da Ribeiro JJ, que estreou na graduação, mostrou que veio mesmo para engrossar o caldo.

Inspirado em Xande Ribeiro, que ministrou um seminário na semana passada na filial de Fortaleza, Davi finalizou todos os seus adversários na competição, ficando com o ouro no meio-pesado e no absoluto. “Queria agradecer a todos os meus alunos, meus amigos, minha família, minha namorada, meus mestres Thiago Goiabeira e Guilherme Rocha de Faria, além de toda a equipe Ribeiro Jiu- Jitsu”, disse a fera.

Na final do absoluto, Davi enrolou a lapela no pescoço de Helio Mourão (Gracie Barra), para estrangular nos cem quilos. Veja abaixo:

O exército de kimono amarrado com a faixa-preta seguiu nas outras categorias. Com Helio Mourão ouro no peso pesado, Gilson Nunes Neném (Evolution) campeão no pena e Lucca França (Evolution) melhor do leve.

Entre os veteranos, Francelino Gonçalves (Nova União) subiu no lugar mais alto do pódio no aberto master.  Já Paulo Ceguim (Evolution) fisgou a medalha dourada da categoria médio, Breno Lima (MG) foi o melhor do peso leve e Osmar Fontes (Ribeiro JJ) também garantiu o ouro no peso pesado.

Na faixa-marrom, quatro atletas da Evolution fecharam o absoluto e decidiram a distribuição das medalhas. Alison Viana ficou com o ouro, Paulo Izaias com a prata, enquanto Leandro Silva e Fabio Silva dividiram o bronze.

Uma das competições de Jiu-Jitsu mais charmosas e tradicionais no calendário da IBJJF terá início nesta quinta-feira, no ginásio do Tijuca Tênis Clube, no Rio. É o Internacional de Masters e Sêniors, evento que reúne a “molecada” da arte suave que já passou da casa dos 30 anos. Entre os inscritos, feras do pano que fizeram e ainda fazem história no esporte, lutando ou ensinando.

While the number of stars in the Pan 2012 adult division is flabbergasting, the over-30-year-old divisions are a rocky road unto themselves. As GRACIEMAG.com discerned, Irvine, California, will be awash with familiar old faces and seasoned champions come this Thursday the 29th.

Among those signed up for the master, two-time absolute champion of the world Rodrigo Comprido is in, as are professors Flavio Cachorrinho, Denílson Pimenta, Theodoro Canal, Aldo Caveirinha, Daniel “Mano Brown” Pires, Baret Yoshida, Rodrigo Clark, Thiago Silva, Bruno Bastos, Leonardo Peçanha and Roberto Tozi.

EX-UFC FIGHTERS IN SENIOR CLASS

Now in the senior division, Bernardo Pitel (who will also be putting in an appearance at adult) and Renato Tavares join the battle for light featherweight gold, Cleber “Tomadinha” Luciano and Paulo Guilhobel will compete at middleweight, while former UFC fighters Renato “Charuto” Veríssimo and Ricardo “Cachorrão” Almeida will take to the mats as medium heavyweights. And then there’s Roberto Godói at super heavyweight and Francelino Gonçalves at ultraheavyweight.

“I’ve never won a Pan. I’ve been runner-up and third place before, but never champion; and I want this title. The bracket will be really tough, as usual; but that will just make the conquest all the more satisfying, God willing,” says Francelino.

A fierce competitor who has won the championship on five prior occasions, black belt Fabio Leopoldo’s name appears on the IBJJF list, too. And he’ll be competing at home, amid his students. Ex-UFCs no sênior

Já na divisão sênior, Bernardo Pitel (que também aparece no adulto) e Renato Tavares devem brigar pelo título do peso-pluma, Cleber “Tomadinha” Luciano e Paulo Guilhobel disputam a categoria médio, enquanto os ex-UFC Renato “Charuto” Veríssimo e Ricardo “Cachorrão” Almeida se engalfinham no meio-pesado. Outros cascudos são Roberto Godói, no super-pesado, e o cearense Francelino Gonçalves na categoria pesadíssimo.

“Eu nunca venci o Pan, já fui vice e terceiro, mas campeão ainda não, e quero muito este título. A chave como sempre está muito difícil, mas isso só vai valorizar mais essa conquista, se Deus quiser”, diz Francelino.

The next European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, in Lisbon, Portugal, will be one rocking party. Besides the glory of being champion, the winners will automatically gain millions of fans in Brazil, since the event will be broadcast on television on the “Sensei Sportv” program.

The January 26-29 championship will gather a constellation of stars, like Bernardo Faria, Leonardo Nogueira, Jonathan Torres, Bruno Frazatto, Otavio Sousa, Carlos Esquisito, Rodrigo Simões, Francelio da Costa and Yuri Simões, as well as masters-class competitors Rodrigo Munduruca, Jared Weiner, Lúcio Charly Brown and Francelino Gonçalves.

GRACIEMAG.com had a word with some of them and asked what they learned while training over the holidays and what tactics they use in competition. Here’s what they had to say:

SELF-KNOWLEDGE, GAS AND JIU-JITSU

1) “One of the greatest secrets is to learn to train tired. Training when you’re fresh is easy; what’s hard is to see how your body and head respond when you’re panting” Léo Nogueira (Alliance)

2) “My strategy for the European Open was to train in every possible situation. I play guard, defense, on top, standing, submission attacks—all aspects of Jiu-Jitsu” Léo Nogueira

3) “My tactics for championships are always the same: go for it. The respect and admiration I have for my opponents stays on the sidelines when I’m in the match area. When I’m in there things get rough. That’s the way I’ve been competing since I was a blue belt, and it’s been working” Yuri Simões (CheckMat)

4) “When competing, I feel athletes should have their game well defined, so when they step into the match area they know exactly what they intend to do” Francelino Gonçalves (Nova União)

5) “Don’t skip studying the rules, so when you get there they’re fresh in your head and can be used in your favor” Francelino Gonçalves

6) “Being well prepared physically is an obvious one for anyone wanting to compete at a high level. But I suggest you test yourself a lot to get to know your capacity, how far your gas tank will take you. If you know when it’s right to step on the gas, you’ll be more confident in your moves. Another tip is to ask yourself, ‘Is this really what you want?’ If it is, then be prepared” Francelino Gonçalves

Autoconhecimento, gás e Jiu-Jitsu

1) “Um dos grandes segredos é aprender a treinar cansado. Treinar inteiro é fácil, o duro é ver como seu corpo e a cabeça respondem quando você está bufando” Léo Nogueira (Alliance)

2) “Minha estratégia para o Europeu foi treinar em todas as situações possíveis. Faço guarda, defesa, por cima, de pé, ataques de finalizações, todos os aspectos do Jiu-Jitsu” Léo Nogueira

3) “Minha tática em campeonatos é sempre a mesma: cair dentro. Meu respeito e admiração pelos adversários fica do lado de fora da área de lutas. Lá dentro é selva. É como luto desde a faixa-azul, e vem dando certo” Yuri Simões (CheckMat)

4) “Para a competição, acho que o atleta deve ter seu jogo bem definido, para quando entrar na área de luta saber exatamente o que pretende fazer” Francelino Gonçalves (Nova União)

5) “Não deixe de repassar o estudo das regras, para chegar no dia com ela bem fresca na cabeça, e com isso usá-la a seu favor” Francelino Gonçalves

6) “Estar muito bem preparado fisicamente é um aspecto óbvio para quem quer entrar num campeonato de alto nível. Mas sugiro ainda você se testar bastante para conhecer bastante sua capacidade, seu gás. Se você sabe a hora certa de usar o gás, você ganha confiança nos golpes. Outra dica é se perguntar: é isso mesmo o que você quer? Então esteja preparado” Francelino Gonçalves
