Na última sexta, 29 de julho, Roosevelt Sousa topou um grande desafio de última hora. Com pouquíssimos dias de antecedência, o faixa-preta de Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu aceitou medir forças contra Yuri Simões no Fight to Win 207, em Dallas, no Texas.

Contra o bicampeão mundial do ADCC em 2015 e 2017, Roosevelt decidiu usar a estratégia de atacar o tempo inteiro. O duelo foi de oito minutos de duração, onde só valia a finalização e não havia contagem de pontos.

Depois de um duelo em pé nos primeiros minutos, o paraibano decidiu fazer guarda para atacar Yuri. Ao atuar por baixo, ele quase foi capaz de encaixar um triângulo, defendido rapidamente pelo atleta de Caio Terra. Roosevelt, então, buscou abrir espaços até ver a possibilidade de atacar o pé de Yuri três vezes.

Primeiro, durante a guarda 50/50, ele encaixou a botinha, depois tentou uma chave de calcanhar e por fim voltou para o ajuste da chave de pé. Ao cabo do duelo, o representante da escola Fight Sports foi declarado campeão por decisão dos juízes.

“Estou confiante por causa do camp para o ADCC e venho melhorando meu Jiu-Jitsu, meu wrestling e meu físico constantemente. É difícil me parar quando estou treinado. Estava querendo muito uma oportunidade para lutar contra um grande atleta antes do ADCC e eu me mantenho sempre treinando para quando aparecer a oportunidade”, detalha Roosevelt, antes de analisar Yuri:

“O Yuri é um grande atleta que já venceu o ADCC duas vezes, tem muita experiência no grappling. Fiquei feliz de ter tido essa oportunidade de lutar com ele, porque foi um ótimo aquecimento para o ADCC”, comenta.

O campeão agora volta a sua rotina de treinamento em Miami, na Flórida, ao lado do time profissional de competição liderado por Cyborg e companhia.

André Gomes, 33, is a jiu-jitsu worker ant. A black-belt since 2014 and currently a resident of Dallas, Texas, he has been living one of the best phases of his career as teacher and athlete. He sits at number two in the IBJJF’s heavyweight master-1 rankings, and ranks number nine overall.

Recently, due to his titles on the competition circuit and his way of fighting, he launched his first online DVD, with an emphasis on the wrist lock.

“My techniques have been tried and approved in high performance, in IBJJF competitions and against tough opponents in the course of my career. I have revealed the most secret details of my game, and whoever buys it won’t regret it!” said, in a recent interview, André, whose titles include double gold at the American Nationals, plus silver at the Master Worlds and Pan.

It used to be hard for André to see all the possibilities the sport could offer his life. Around mid-2002, his mom told him to study and find a profession.

“It was hard at the start, but I knew everything would change. Never give up on your dreams, no matter what people say about you. If you believe it, keep forging ahead, because it will work. From the first time I stepped on the mat, I fell in love with the sport! My mom told me at the time to quit the sport and study, but I said I was going to live off jiu-jitsu. It worked! Today I’m able to help my family with the sport I love,” said André, a black-belt under Otávio “Peixotinho” and Álvaro “Ganso.”

A prolific competitor, André has some important appointments lined up for the 2022 season. He has set the Pan as a goal, as well as the gi and no-gi worlds and a Fight to Win title bout. In order to achieve great results, he has begun devoting time to mental preparation.

“I’ve always had trouble believing in myself. I did some work with some professionals to start loosening up in the competitions, and I’ve been getting better! I’ve always demanded a lot from myself and had a great fear of losing, and today I believe that that’s a mistake that many athletes make and neglect. Competition is 90% mental and 10% physical,” he said.

The co-main event saw UFC fighter Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes win F2W’s lightweight belt over Jeff Glover. Also, Gianni Grippo achieved a split-decision win against Samir Chantre.

A bela Mackenzie Dern, faixa-preta número um no ranking da IBJJF, conseguiu mais um prêmio para sua gigante coleção.

A atleta da Gracie Humaitá venceu a luta principal do Fight to Win Pro 12, realizado no último sábado, dia 17, no Arizona, EUA.

Outra fera que se deu bem no evento foi o ex-UFC Ben Henderson, que também é faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu.

Mackenzie teve pela frente a dura Talita Alencar (GFTeam), em duelo de kimono. A luta foi franca, com ataques frenéticos de ambas as partes. No fim das contas, a filha de Megaton sagrou-se vencedora, na decisão dos árbitros.

Bendo, por sua vez, encarou Jay Hades (Caio Terra) na luta co-principal. No combate, melhor para o atleta do MMA, que conseguiu chegar nas costas e finalizar o oponente num justo mata-leão.

Outros destaques ficaram para as vitórias dos faixa-pretas Diogo Moreno (Soulfighters) sobre Daniel Hampton (Power MMA), e de Carlos Farias sobre JJ Pugsley (Factory X).
