E não foi apenas a filha faixa-roxa do cineasta George Lucas que ganhou com a visita. Ela vivia no colo do criador de “Guerra nas estrelas”, nos bastidores de Hollywood, mas achou que emoção mesmo era no Jiu-Jitsu e no MMA.

Amanda Lucas, a filha adotada do diretor, é desde fevereiro de 2012 a campeã absoluto do Deep, após finalizar Yumiko Hotta no terceiro assalto.

Sua história virou um documentário do diretor Bobby Razak, ele também um entusiasta do mundo das artes marciais. O filme será lançado este ano.

Amanda fez pontas em diversos filmes do pai, mas curte mesmo é entortar as rivais no Deep. Aos 31 anos, ela tem cinco vitórias na carreira e apenas uma derrota, na estreia, em 2008 (por nocaute). Ela tem três finalizações na carreira, curiosamente todas contra rivais japonesas: na chave de pé (que valeu o cinturão), no mata-leão e na chave de braço.

She grew up behind the scenes in Hollywood playing on the lap of the creator of Star Wars, but what she really finds exciting is Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.

Amanda Lucas, the daughter of filmmaker George Lucas, has been champion of Japanese promotion Deep ever since Feb. 2012, when she tapped out Yumiko Hotta in the third round.

Her story has become a documentary in the hands of Bobby Razak, who besides being a movie director is also a martial arts buff. The film is set for release later this year.

Lucas had cameo appearances in a number of her father’s movies, but what she really gets a kick out of is twisting opponents into pretzels at Deep. At 31 years of age, she has amassed five wins and a lone loss—via knockout on her debut, in 2008. She has three career submissions, curiously all against Japanese opposition: one footlock (earning her the belt), one rear-naked choke and an armbar.

Blood and grit marked the under 77kg GP, won by the heavy-handed Hernani Perpétuo. The André Pederneiras understudy saw blood – and his own, at that – when taking on Edilberto Crocotá in the grand prix final, with a gash on his head that stubbornly poured blood throughout the three-round affair.

Perpétuo showed his warrior spirit with every cut check, imploring the ref not to stop the fight, “Please don’t stop the fight,” he’d plead. Deftly moving around the cage, the Nova União striking specialist dominated the fight, getting the better of the standup action in all three rounds. In the last few seconds of the fight, to add further luster to the achievement, he held out against a snug guillotine choke while his blood bathed the cage canvas.

Delson Pé de Chumbo stepped in for an injured Murilo Bustamante in the card’s international matchup and left no one disappointed. Despite giving up some weight to Deep champion Yuya Shirai, the Jiu-Jitsu world champion took the tournament belt via judges’ decision.

Now Glover Teixeira left nothing to chance, completely annulling two-time absolute world champion Márcio Pé de Pano’s ground game. With perfectly-timed sprawls and keen to Pé de Pano’s intentions on the ground, Glover kept the fight mostly standing but wrapped up the match unleashing a second-round barrage of ground and pound till the ref stepped in.

Two-time UFC fighter Ronys Torres put his Jiu-Jitsu to good use. Following a takedown set up by a well-placed left hook, the native of the town of Manacapuru, etched into the Amazon rain forest, looked to have cinched the win with a rear-naked choke but ended the one-sided affair with a straight-armed kimura, all in the first round. The fight between Toninho Fúria and Alexandre Chaminho came to a premature halt during the break between the second and third rounds. Fúria saw the better side of the action in the opener, while Chambinho drew even in the second, but a knee injury kept him from returning for the tie-breaking third.

Sangue e raça marcaram o GP até 77 kg, onde triunfou o mão-pesada Hernani Perpétuo. O fiel escudeiro de André Pederneiras mostrou sangue nos olhos e também na cabeça – ele disputou a grande final, contra Edilberto Crocotá, com um corte profundo que teimava em abrir e derramar sangue.

O guerreiro não desistiu e, a cada interrupção, implorava: “Não parem a luta, por favor”. Com muita movimentação, a fera da Nova União dominou os três assaltos, sempre melhor na trocação. Nos últimos segundos, para abrilhantar ainda mais a conquista, ele resistiu a uma guilhotina encaixadíssima, que melou de sangue a jaula armada na terra dos valentes.

Delson Pé de Chumbo substituiu Murilo Bustamante na luta internacional e não decepcionou. Mesmo sentindo um pouco a briga contra a balança em cima da hora, o campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu mandou bem contra o campeão do Deep Yuya Shirai, e levou o cinturão do torneio por decisão dos jurados.

Já Glover Teixeira, como dizem, não deu chance ao azar, e anulou o jogo de chão do bicampeão mundial absoluto Marcio Pé de Pano. Com a esparramada em dia, Glover não foi derrubado e dominou em pé, além de maltratar no ground and pound e soltar a marreta até o juiz interromper no segundo round.

Ex-lutador do UFC, Ronys Torres colocou o Jiu-Jitsu em prática. Depois de aplicar um quedaço, o manacapuruense tentou um mata-leão. Mas a vitória veio com uma kimura muito bem encaixada, tudo isso no primeiro round. A luta entre Toninho Fúria e Alexandre Chambinho acabou no intervalo do segundo para o terceiro assalto. No embate, Fúria foi melhor na primeira parcial, já Chambinho equilibrou as ações na segunda etapa, mas uma lesão no joelho impediu seu retorno para o derradeiro round.

O Clube da Luta promete grandes emoções no dia 20 de julho, na casa Via Show, no Rio de Janeiro. Nesta sexta-feira, o treinador Roberto Gordo confirmou ao GRACIEMAG.com a luta entre o bicampeão mundial absoluto de Jiu-Jitsu e ex-UFC Marcio Pé de Pano (foto) contra Glover Teixeira, considerado hoje um dos melhores lutadores em ação nos eventos brasileiros.

“A luta já estava mais ou menos apalavrada, mas agora é oficial”, diz Gordo. E para você, quem ganha esse duelo de pesos pesados brasileiros?

Outra luta muito aguardada traz Murilo Bustamante contra o japonês Chirai Yuya, enquanto Delson Pé de Chumbo pega Luis Besouro (RFT).

There big excitement coming up this July 20 at Rio de Janeiro’s Via Show venue, with the Clube da Luta event presenting a stellar card. This Friday, Coach Roberto Gordo confirmed to GRACIEMAG.com that two-time absolute world champion and former UFC fighter Marcio Pé de Pano (pictured) will be taking on Glover Teixeira, today considered the top light heavyweight in action in Brazil.

“The fight was more or less agreed upon verbally, but now it’s official,” says Gordo. What do you think, dear reader, who’s going to win this all-Brazilian bout?

Another heavily-anticipated matchup pits Murilo Bustamante against Japan’s Chirai Yuya, while Delson Pé de Chumbo takes on Luis Besouro (RFT).

Como analisa a temporada?

Foi muito bom em vários sentidos. Seja nas competições, seminários e viagens, foi tudo muito produtivo. Acho que evolui muito no Jiu-Jitsu e em vários outros fatores da vida. Melhorei como professor e no meu inglês, por exemplo. Fiz muitas amizades por onde passei, o que pretendo preservar por muito tempo, além do fato de conhecer muitos lugares que sempre sonhei e aprender sobre várias culturas diferentes. Nas competições foi muito bom também. Fechei o peso no Europeu, ganhei a seletiva do World Pro, o World Pro, o Brasileiro, o Deep X e o Mundial Sem Kimono. Bati vários atletas duros como Celsinho Venícius, Rafael Formiga, Augusto Tanquinho, Jonathan Torres, Lucas Leite e Thiago Alves, entre outros. Mas também tive algumas falhas que me custaram caro, como no Mundial, onde perdi por um detalhe, por apenas uma vantagem na única derrota na minha categoria em todo o ano. Mas estou trabalhando muito em cima disso, em não errar mais e não cometer nenhuma falha.

Seu grande adversário em 2010 foi o Michael Langhi. Fale desse lutador e como vai fazer para tentar batê-lo na próxima temporada.

Não tenho nem o que falar do Langhi, é um atleta que em 2009 e 2010 ganhou tudo o que disputou, ele é excelente. E não é de hoje que a gente luta. Isso acontece desde a faixa-roxa e sempre foi muito difícil lutar com ele. Inclusive, eu comecei abrindo o placar em 2 x 0, mas agora tenho que correr atrás. Somos muito novos e ainda vamos competir muito. Sei que vamos lutar várias vezes ainda. Particularmente, não gosto de pensar em um atleta em especial, quero ser campeão e não posso pensar exclusivamente no Michael. Tenho que fazer em média cinco a seis lutas para ser campeão de um grande campeonato, então acho que devo me preocupar comigo, em estar 100% e não cometer falhas. Confio no meu jogo e acredito na minha equipe. Em 2011, vamos estar ainda mais unidos e assim acho que vai ser mais fácil chegar no meu objetivo, que é ser o número 1 dos leves

Quais as suas principais metas em 2011, eventos que vai atrás?

Em 2011, pretendo lutar as principais competições do calendário da IBJJF, os da WLPJJ, o World Pro e a seletiva para o ADCC, entre muitos outros. Quero lutar muito mais, porque quero evoluir mais e sei que competindo bastante isso vai me ajudar muito. Quero estar melhor a cada treino, a cada luta, a cada competição, mas sempre focando no Mundial. Quero entrar e finalizar todas as lutas em todas as competições. Esse é o meu foco em 2011: entrar para finalizar todas as minhas lutas.

Que história é essa agora de ser embaixador?

Sempre que estou no Rio procuro dar continuidade ao meu treinamento e não consigo ficar parado. Estou sempre visitando academias como a Oriente, onde fui formado pelo professor Rafael Barros, e na Top Brother, do meu amigo Casquinha. Recentemente ele fez um convite junto com o Pastor Anderson Leite para participar de um projeto no qual me nomearam “embaixador”. Ele se chama “Projeto Ide Jardim Gramacho”, uma iniciativa da Comunidade Internacional Missionaria do Evangelho Pleno. Tem uma iniciativa bem bacana e pretendo ajudar e incentivar a molecada no que for possível. Vai ser um sucesso, no primeiro dia tinha cerca de 70 crianças carentes e todas com muita vontade de treinar.  Elas terão direito a aulas de Jiu-jitsu, judô, ginástica, informática, refeições e atendimento médico, entre outras coisas. Fiquei amarradão em participar disso e agradeço ao mestre Casquinha pelo convite. What’s your assessment of the season?

It was good in several ways. Whether in competitions, seminars or trips, it was all very productive. I feel my Jiu-Jitsu has evolved a lot and so have several aspects of life. I improved as a teacher and as an English speaker, for example. I made a lot of friends in the places I visited, ones I intend to keep for a long time, and I got to know a bunch of places I’d always dreamed of seeing and learn about a number of different cultures. I did well in competition too. I closed out my weight division at the European Open, won the World Pro qualifiers, the World Pro itself, the Brazilian Nationals, Deep X, and the No-Gi Worlds. I beat a number of tough athletes like Celso Venícius, Rafael Formiga, Augusto Tanquino, Jonathan Torres, Lucas Leite, and Thiago Alves, among others. But I also failed in some respects that set me back a lot, like at the Worlds, where I lost on a trifle, by a mere advantage point, my only loss of the year in my division. But I’m working to fix that, to not make anymore mistakes.

Your biggest opponent in 2010 was Michael Langhi. Tell us what you’re going to do in order to beat him next season.

There isn’t much I can say about Langhi, he won everything he entered in 2009 and 2010, he’s excellent. And this wasn’t the only time we faced each other. We’ve been meeting since we were purple belts and he’s always been hard to handle. Back then I’d get ahead 2-0 on the scorecards but now I have to work to keep up. I don’t like thinking about one fighter in particular, I want to be champion and not think exclusively about Michael. I have to do on average five or six matches to win a major championship, so I feel I have to be concerned with myself, in being 100% and not making mistakes. I have faith in my game and I believe in my team. In 2011, we will be even more united and so I feel it will be easier to reach my objective of becoming the number-one lightweight.

What are your main goals for 2011, which events are you targeting?

In 2011, I intend to compete at all the major competitions on the IBJJF calendar, the WLPJJ tournaments, the World Pro, and the ADCC qualifiers, among a number of others. I want to compete more, because I want to evolve more and I know that competing will help me a lot. I want to get better with every training session, every match, every competition, but always focused on the Worlds. I want to get the submission in every match of every competition I’m in. That’s my focus in 2011: to get the submission in every one of my matches.

What’s this business about you being an ambassador now?

Whenever I’m in Rio I try to keep up my training and not piddle around. I’m always visiting academies like Oriente, where I got my start with Rafael Barros, and Top Brother, my friend Casquinha’s team. I was recently invited by Pastor Anderson Leite to participate in a project where they nominated me “ambassador.” They call it “Projeto Ide Jardim Gramacho,” an initiative by the International Missionaria do Evangelho Pleno religious mission. It will be a success. There were around seventy needy children there on the first day and all raring to train. They will have access to Jiu-Jitsu, judo, gymnastics, information technology, meals, and medical attention, among other things. I was stoked to be a part of it and I’m grateful to Master Casquinho for the invite. Coming off a win at the event Ultimate Wrestle in Chine, where he teaches, Rodrigo Caporal is getting ready for some more upcoming challenges.

To close out the year, the Atos black belt will do one more MMA fight, on December 13, after which he’ll just keep on going. As he informed GRACIEMAG.com by email, he’ll kick off 2011 already with a fight, now at Deep on January 8.
