A bela Mackenzie Dern, faixa-preta número um no ranking da IBJJF, conseguiu mais um prêmio para sua gigante coleção.

A atleta da Gracie Humaitá venceu a luta principal do Fight to Win Pro 12, realizado no último sábado, dia 17, no Arizona, EUA.

Outra fera que se deu bem no evento foi o ex-UFC Ben Henderson, que também é faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu.

Mackenzie teve pela frente a dura Talita Alencar (GFTeam), em duelo de kimono. A luta foi franca, com ataques frenéticos de ambas as partes. No fim das contas, a filha de Megaton sagrou-se vencedora, na decisão dos árbitros.

Bendo, por sua vez, encarou Jay Hades (Caio Terra) na luta co-principal. No combate, melhor para o atleta do MMA, que conseguiu chegar nas costas e finalizar o oponente num justo mata-leão.

Outros destaques ficaram para as vitórias dos faixa-pretas Diogo Moreno (Soulfighters) sobre Daniel Hampton (Power MMA), e de Carlos Farias sobre JJ Pugsley (Factory X).

Competitors gave all they got on the mats in search of the gold medal.

Tarcisio Jardim and Leanna Dittrich lead the pack of black belt open class champions at the master 1 division.

Jardim scored two points early in the match with a sweep against Rafael Formiga and then defended well the opponent’s attempts to sweep him back.

In the female’s division, Leanna also scored 2-0 early in the match against Sarah Black and worked her way to the gold medal.

In the master 3, Saulo Ribeiro completed a perfect campaign with a 9-0 win over Carlos Farias for the open class gold medal.

Wellington Megaton was the master 4 open class champion by referees decision against Roberto Traven after a 0-0 tie in points.

In the master 5 open class, Brian Beauchamp took home the gold medal after a 2-0 win over Chris Haueter.

Stephen Kamphuis was the master 6 open class champion when he outscored Michael Atkin 2-0 in the final.

In Georgia, the IBJJF held this Saturday the 2015 Atlanta Summer Open.

Carlos Farias and Leah Taylor were the standouts winning the black belt open class male and female divisions.

Farias beat Guybson Sá in the final and Taylor got the gold medal after a win over Monique Carvalho.

João Miyao won double gold this Saturday at the Las Vegas Summer Open.

After wining the light-father division, he jumped into the open class and made it to the final.

His opponent was ultra-heavy champion Carlos Farias.

João Miyao proved once again this Saturday in Las Vegas that he fears no opponent.

After winning the light-feather division, the black belt jumped into the open class division and made it to the top.

In the final match, he faced the ultra-heavyweight champion Carlos Farias and won by one penalty.

A classificatória da costa oeste americana para o WPJJC 2014 foi realizada nesse domingo, dia 22 de setembro, na já clássica Pirâmide Walter em Long Beach, na Califórnia.

Foi a primeira de duas oportunidades para os atletas obterem o direito de competir no WPJJC do ano que vem, nos Emirados Árabes, com todas as despesas pagas.

Vinte e três pacotes de viagem estavam em jogo nas divisões de elite (faixa-preta e preta/marrom na competição feminina), e também nos absolutos leves e pesados das faixas marrom, roxa e azul.

O destaque do evento foi Keenan Cornelius (Atos), em sua primeira competição como faixa-preta. Keenan causou alvoroço ao finalizar quatro adversários, tanto na divisão até 94kg como no aberto.

No peso, Keenan derrotou primeiro Morris Ayala e depois Gustavo Pires,nas costas, conquistando a passagem para Abu Dhabi.

No absoluto, valendo mil dólares, Keenan lutou mais duas vezes. Primeiro estrangulou Eliot Kelly nas costas, e depois pegou Magid Hage num armlock da guarda fechada.

No feminino, Mackenzie Dern superou uma contusão de joelho para ganhar
o ouro absoluto. Sua vitória na final foi contra Tammy Griego.

Depois de raspar Griego, Mackenzie torceu o joelho enquanto escapava de um single-leg de Tammy.

Mackenzie manteve a pressão e conseguiu terminar à frente no placar, assegurando o prêmio de mil dólares.

O 2º Open Ceará rolou nesse fim de semana em Fortaleza, e entre mais de 600 atletas, atraiu Theodoro Canal, Ricardo Evangelista, Carlos Farias, Hugo Britto, Bruno Ramos e Helio Mourão, entre outros.

Os craques da GFTeam estavam demais: Theodoro foi o campeão do absoluto preta leve, e Ricardo ficou com o absoluto pesado.

Theodoro Canal ainda fez mais: o peso-pena ficou com o ouro no aberto leve, e com a prata no absoluto pesado. Canal venceu Carlos Farias para ficar com seu ouro.

No master, o melhor foi Bruno Leandro (MG), que superou Bruno Ramos (Gracie Barra) por 2 a 0. Já na faixa-marrom, Lucas Dantas (Kimura/Nova União) fez a festa no absoluto leve, enquanto o piauiense Inácio Neto e o pernambucano José Wilson fecharam o aberto pesado para a Gracie Barra.

Entre as equipes a academia campeã foi a SAS, seguida pela Nova União e pela Evolution.

The Open Ceará 2 tournament took place last weekend in the Northeast Brazilian city of Fortaleza, gathering the likes of Theodoro Canal, Ricardo Evangelista, Carlos Farias, Hugo Britto, Bruno Ramos and Helio Mourão among the 600 participating athletes.

The GFTeam stars were on fire: Theodoro won the black belt lightweight absolute, while Ricardo took top spot in the heavyweight absolute.

And Theodoro Canal went one further: the featherweight took gold in the lightweight absolute and silver in the heavyweight absolute. Canal beat Carlos Faria to win gold.

In the master division, Bruno Leandro (MG) came out on top, beating Gracie Barra’s Bruno Ramos by 2 to 0. At brown belt, Diego Quadros of Kimura/Nova União went to town in the lightweight absolute, while Inácio Neto and José Wilson closed out the heavyweight absolute for Gracie Barra.

In the team contest, SAS took top spot, Nova União came in second, and Evolution notched third.

Henrique Machado, líder da equipe Asle no Amazonas, anunciou esta semana uma parceria com a escola Gracie Barra. A partir de agora, as equipes que revelaram os craques Ronaldo Jacaré e Roger Gracie estão unidas.

Machado explicou a união, em entrevista ao site do jornal amazonense “Diário do Amazonas”.

“Mestre Carlos Gracie entrou em contato comigo há dois meses, e no último dia 5 de junho firmamos a parceria. Ele já estava interessado no Jiu-Jitsu em Manaus e a nossa academia é a que oferece maior estrutura para a parceria”, comentou Machado, que frisou os benefícios que seus atletas amazonenses terão nas competições nacionais e internacionais de Jiu-Jitsu.

“O competidor da Asle que for viajar terá um lugar para treinar e todo o suporte que precisar, levando em consideração que a Gracie Barra tem mais de 300 academias espalhadas pelo mundo”, disse Henrique.

Além do suporte técnico e da infraestrutura, a Gracie Barra no Rio de Janeiro vai apoiar os competidores da Asle que mais se destacarem com passagens aéreas para grandes competições de Jiu-Jitsu.

With the 7th edition of Gustavo Dantas’ Arizona International Open offering up a total of $3000 dollars in prizes for its black belt absolute division, it was bound to attract some formidable athletes from all different areas. Amongst these competitors were names such as Clark Gracie, Marcel Fortuna, Ryan Beauregard, Augusto Moizinho, Carlos Farias, Michael Westbrook, and of course the big winner of the day, Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa.

“Formiga” had quite the journey to face 2011 Southwest Classic champion, Marcel Fortuna, in the finals. Flying in all the way from Boston, the Soul Fighters athlete had to face the largest opponent in the division, first round, Carlos Farias. “Formiga” had a very tough time trying to work with the much larger Farias. In the end Barbosa narrowly pulled off the win, with Farias losing points for stalling. The next round brought about another challenge in last year’s middle weight Worlds bronze medalist, Clark Gracie. “Formiga” accepted the challenge and passed with flying colors; defeating Gracie with an overwhelming score of 10-2.

On the opposite end of the bracket Marcel Fortuna began his march to the finals with a first-round bye, leaving him to face the winner of Augusto Moizinho and Ryan Beauregard in the semifinals. The lighter Moizinho managed to pull off the upset, defeating Beauregard on points. Once the next round came up, the much smaller Augusto put in a great effort against the esteemed Fortuna, but size seemed to be too much of a factor, with Fortuna eventually catching an armbar.

With the finals set, the entire Phoenix College gym sat on edge to await and see the winner of the coveted absolute division. Knowing he had to overcome a large size advantage, “Formiga” came in tough against Fortuna, bringing the action, not only managing to secure a sweep, but also following through on the back to beat the favorite 6-0.

Although losing, Fortuna did not go home empty handed; second place collecting $500. Not to forget the grand champion, “Formiga” seemed very grateful and is sure to put his $2500 prize to good use after leaving the fast growing Arizona Jiu-Jitsu scene.
