He’s spent decades dedicated to Jiu-Jitsu, competing at all the main gentle art events, always a handful for his opponents. This year, for example, Bruno Bastos turned heads by making it to the final of the World Pro, one of the most hotly disputed tournaments of the season. On the occasion, he was outpointed by the much younger Rodolfo Vieira.

Time goes by and Bruno starts thinking about the day he’ll have to put competing in the adult division at the big tourneys to rest. Before that, though, the “Highlander”, as some of his students calle him, will see action at the ADCC in England. Bruno was invited to take part by the event’s organizers.

“I tore my tricep during the World Pro. I couldn’t even compete at the Worlds and ended up having to sit out the ADCC tryouts. The organization was sensitive to that, looked at my CV, and gave me this opportunity,” he told GRACIEMAG.com.

Furthermore, the black belt is rejoicing in the solid phase some of the representatives of Nova União are seeing. At the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship his group of athletes played a key part by winning a gold medal, three silvers and a bronze. The gold went to blue belt Marcio André, one of GRACIEMAG.com’s picks to do well this season. “GRACIEMAG got that one right too!” laughs Bruno.

To add to the jubilation, Marcio and other revelations, like Kauê Damasceno, were promoted by Bruno.

“I fulfilled a dream by conquering a world title so young. I’d already won the World Pro against João Miyao in the final. Now Bruno, who’s the one who started the project in Bangu, believed in me, spoke with my teacher Fabio Andrade, and they felt it was time,” celebrated Marcio, who can’t wait to test drive his purple belt.

To wrap up, black belt Daniel “Jacaré” Almeida achieved his second win in American MMA at Texan event Battle in the Panhandle. The victim this time was Chase Watson, who gave up from strikes from the mounted triangle 1:30 minutes into round one.

For how much longer can the immortal warrior’s romp last? Well at least at the ADCC Bruno’s a sure thing.

São décadas dedicadas ao Jiu-Jitsu, presente nas principais competições da arte suave, sempre uma pedra no sapato dos adversários. Neste ano, por exemplo, Bruno Bastos surpreendeu ao chegar na final do World Pro, um dos torneios mais disputados da temporada. Na ocasião, foi batido nos pontos pelo mais jovem Rodolfo Vieira.

O tempo passa e Bruno já começa a pensar no dia que vai deixar de lado as grandes competições na categoria adulto. No entanto, antes disso, o “Highlander” – como alguns alunos o chamam – vai estar em ação no ADCC, na Inglaterra. Bruno foi convidado pela organização.

“Durante o World Pro rompi o meu tríceps. Não poderia nem ter lutado o Mundial e acabei fora da seletiva do ADCC. A organização se sensibilizou com isso, observou meu currículo, e me deu essa chance”, conta ao GRACIEMAG.com.

Além disso, o faixa-preta comemora a boa fase de alguns representantes da Nova União. No Mundial de Jiu-jitsu, seu grupo de atletas contribuiu com uma medalha de ouro, três de prata e seis de bronze. O ouro foi do ainda faixa-azul Marcio André, uma das apostas do GRACIEMAG.com para esta temporada. “Graciemag acertou nessa também!”, brinca Bruno.

Para completar a festa, Marcio e outras revelações, como Kauê Damasceno, foram graduados por Bruno.

“Realizei um sonho ao conquistar o título Mundial assim tão novo. Já havia conquistado também o World Pro contra o João Miyao na final. Agora o Bruno, que foi quem iniciou o trabalho em Bangu, acreditou em mim, conversou com meu professor Fabio Andrade, e acharam que já estava na hora”, comemora Marcinho, que não vê a hora de estrear na roxa.

Para encerrar, o faixa-preta Daniel “Jacaré” Almeida conquistou a sua segunda vitória no MMA americano no evento Battle In The Panhandle, no Texas. Dessa vez a vítima foi Chase Watson, que desistiu após sofrer socos do triângulo na montada a 1min30s do primeiro round.

A festa do guerreiro imortal segue até quando? Pelo menos, até o ADCC Bruno Bastos está garantido!

Mais um pupilo de Zé Radiola em Pernambuco começa a brilhar nas principais competições. Bruno Alves retorna de uma turnê pela Europa e, com ele, medalhas e a vaga para o World Pro.

“Cheguei na Europa para lutar a seletiva do World Pro em Lisboa, perdi na final e acabei sem a vaga. Nesta, também fiquei  em terceiro no absoluto. Depois disso, fui  treinar na Inglaterra com o Bráulio Estima, voltei para Portugual e lutei o Europeu. Fiquei em segundo lugar, tendo perdido para o Claudio Calazans no finalzinho da luta”, conta.

Apesar dos bons resultados, a meta de Bruno é sempre o topo do pódio, e o lutador não desanimou.

“Fui campeão do Nacional Teams entre os pesados, mas ainda faltava a minha vaga em Abu Dabhi. Fui para França treinar com o Christian Rodriguez  e depois para Hungria, onde treinei com meu amigo Max Carvalho. De lá, parti para Polônia. Foram dez horas de viagem de trem, mas valeu a pena. Consegui minha vaga na seletiva local para o World Pro, fui campeão. Agora volto para Recife para treinar com o Zé para o Pan.Quero a agradecer a Deus, e todos que me ajudaram nessa viagem!”, encerra o casca-grossa.

Yet another Zé Radiola student in Pernambuco has taken off in big-time competition. Bruno Alves has returned from a tour of Europe and, with him, he brings medals and a berth at the World Pro event.

“I went to Europe to compete at the World Pro qualifiers in Lisbon. I lost the final and ended up not getting a spot. I also took third in the absolute. After that I went to train with Bráulio Estima in England, then I returned to Portugal and competed at the Euro Open. I took second place, losing to Claudio Calasans at the very end of the match,” he recounts.

Despite the good results, Bruno’s goal is always to make it to the top of the podium, and the fighter wasn’t dissuaded.

“I won the Team Nationals as a heavyweight, but I still didn’t have my place in Abu Dhabi. I went to France to train with Christian Rodriguez and then to Hungary, where I trained with my friend Max Carvalho. From there I took off for Poland. I spent ten hours traveling by train, but it was worth it. I managed to get my place at the World Pro at the local qualifiers, I won. Now I’m returning to Recife to train for the Pan with Zé. I want to thank God and everyone who helped me on this trip,” he says in closing.

At roosterweight, Leandro da Silva (CheckMat) took top spot. Now the light featherweight winner was Leandro Martins (CheckMat). At featherweight, Bruno Frazatto (Atos) took the gold, after beating Maximiliano Farias (CheckMat) in the decider.

Gracie Barra took first at middleweight, with Bruno Almeida. Another Atos ace, Vitor Toledo took top spot at medium heavyweight, having overcome Eduardo Milioli (Rilion Gracie) in the final. Ivaldo de Oliveira added another gold to CheckMat’s count, at heavyweight. João Severina and Mauro Oliveira shut out the super heavyweight class, which captured gold and silver for Rilion Gracie, while Gustavo Dias (CM System) brought joy to his master Cristiano Marcello’s heart by winning the ultra heavyweight.

Among the girls, Priscila Prandini (CheckMat) came out on top, winning both the medium heavyweight and the open weight classes at brown/black belt.

In the adult division, Gracie Barra won the team contest, followed by Atos and CheckMat.

A Gracie Barra ficou em primeiro no médio, com Bruno Almeida. Mais um da Atos, Vitor Toledo subiu no alto do pódio no meio-pesado, tendo batido Eduardo Milioli (Rilion Gracie) na final. Nivaldo de Oliveira garantiu mais um pódio para a CheckMat no pesado. João Zeferino e Mauro Oliveira fecharam no superpesado, o que valeu o ouro e a prata para a Gracie Florianópolis, enquanto Gustavo Dias (CM System) deixou o mestre Cristiano Marcello todo alegre, tendo vencido no pesadíssimo.

Entre as meninas, a melhor foi Priscila Prandini (CheckMat), com o primeiro lugar no meio-pesado e absoluto faixa-marrom e preta.

Na categoria adulto, a Gracie Barra foi a campeã por equipes, seguida da Atos e CheckMat.
