Um youtuber desafia Michael Phelps para uma disputa nas piscinas. Outro chama o campeão Michael Jordan para bater uma bolinha. Você provavelmente não apostaria em nenhum desses influencers contra os dois monstros sagrados, certo? Com Anderson Silva, contudo, o resultado foi a derrota. Como e por que o Aranha, aos 47 anos, foi derrotado pelo americano Jake Paul, de 25 anos, no último sábado, dia 29 de outubro, em luta de boxe?

No duelo Jake Paul x Anderson Silva, de fato, a juventude falou mais alto. O ator 22 anos mais jovem provou mais uma vez que leva jeito para o esporte e chocou os fãs do brasileiro. Ele derrotou o lendário Anderson Silva por decisão unânime dos árbitros (77-74, 78-73 e 78-73), com direito a um knockdown no último round. O americano segue invicto em seis lutas (6v-0d) no boxe, enquanto o Aranha conheceu seu primeiro revés após duas vitórias desde que retornou à modalidade. 

Faminto pela vitória, Jake Paul tomou a iniciativa, mas Anderson usou bem as esquivas e desviou de boa parte dos golpes do adversário. O americano conectou mais socos no plexo do brasileiro, já que encontrou dificuldades para acertar a cabeça.  

Anderson tentou mexer com o psicológico do rival no segundo round. O Aranha tomou conta do centro do ringue, partiu para cima e encurralou o oponente. Após provocar, buscar o clinche e conectar mais golpes, Silva manteve a pressão no terceiro round, com um bom volume de socos. No entanto, Jake Paul teve o melhor momento do assalto. O americano aproveitou um momento em que Anderson baixou a guarda e acertou em cheio o nariz do brasileiro. A partir daí, viu-se uma cena incomum na carreira de Anderson. 

Em seus tempos áureos, Anderson Silva era inatingível. Usava as esquivas com genialidade e parecia brincar com os adversários. Quando era acertado, não dava sinais de abatimento. Defendia golpes com a ponta do queixo e tinha capacidade de absorção fora da curva. Aos 47 anos, a história não seria a mesma. O golpe de Paul provocou um sangramento no nariz do Aranha. O brasileiro tentou não se abater, mas Jake tomou conta do round seguinte e foi preciso nas combinações. 

O youtuber voltou ainda mais agressivo no quinto round, todavia Anderson se reergueu. Foi  dominante na maior parte do assalto e intimidou o adversário. Silva adotou comportamento mais passivo no sexto round, apesar da boa quinta etapa. Jake lançou mais socos e acelerou o ritmo do combate.

O sétimo round foi equilibrado. Ambos alternaram bons momentos, porém, Jake foi mais ofensivo, enquanto o Aranha, cansado, mostrou-se passivo.

Era tudo ou nada para Anderson Silva no oitavo round. Um dos maiores lutadores da história do MMA e protagonista na popularização do esporte no Brasil botava em jogo seu legado diante do youtuber Jake Paul. E prevaleceu a gana do americano. O momento decisivo foi um cruzado de direita que pegou na ponta do queixo do brasileiro. Anderson caiu. Ficou instantes sentado e se levantou. O que passou na cabeça do lendário lutador nestes segundos? Jake manteve a pegada e controlou o combate até o gongo soar pela última vez.

Jake Paul não venceu Anderson Silva por acaso. O youtuber foi digno da façanha que conseguiu diante de um dos maiores lutadores de todos os tempos. O youtuber se dedica exclusiva e obsessivamente ao boxe há cinco anos e já disputou seis lutas profissionais. Cada adversário foi escolhido a dedo. O americano estreou na modalidade em janeiro de 2020, contra o também youtuber AnEsonGib. Em seguida, deu um passo adiante e conquistou outra vitória por nocaute. Desta vez, contra o ex-jogador de basquete Nate Robinson. 

O objetivo de enfrentar lutadores de MMA se concretizou em sua luta seguinte. Jake pinçou o ex-UFC Ben Askren, que estava aposentado do MMA em razão de uma grave lesão no quadril e tinha a parte da trocação deficitária. Dito isso, Askren foi nocauteado por Jake no primeiro round, com um golpe singular. 

Jake Paul decidiu virar a chave em seu próximo compromisso. Ele mirou num veterano, ex-campeão do UFC e em má fase. Ou seja, Tyron Woodley, derrotado e completamente dominado em suas últimas quatro lutas no MMA. Woodley prometeu nocautear o ambicioso boxeador. Nada disso. Paul o derrotou na primeira vez por decisão unânime e aplicou um nocaute brutal na revanche. 

O que restaria para Jake Paul em seguida? Escolher uma lenda do MMA que tem se aventurado no boxe. Considerado um dos maiores strikers da história do esporte, Anderson carregava consigo a bagagem técnica e tinha as credenciais para acabar com as ambições de Paul. No entanto, o determinado americano driblou as habilidades do Aranha e o derrotou categoricamente. Um triunfo justo, digno do empenho de Jake.

Com a vitória sobre Anderson Silva, Jake Paul já selecionou seu próximo adversário. Trata-se do ex-UFC Nate Diaz: veterano, extremamente popular, mais leve e com menos poder de nocaute. Casamento ideal para Paul dar continuidade ao seu plano de carreira. Em entrevista após a luta, Jake Paul celebrou a vitória e disparou contra Diaz.

“É surreal, Anderson é meu ídolo, ele é muito duro, uma lenda. Ei Nate Diaz, para de ser frouxo e venha lutar comigo”, desafiou Jake.

O mundo do MMA está próximo de realizar sua primeira troca da história. Dois atletas de ponta de duas organizações gigantes das artes marciais mistas podem trocar entre organizações em transação inédita.

Demetrious Johnson, ex-campeão do UFC, poderá deixar o UFC para trocar a organização de Dana White pelo One Championship. Na volta, o invicto Ben Askren, campeão do One e ex-campeão do Bellator, pode vir para o Ultimate. As informações são da ESPN americana, que indicou negociações avançadas mas sem definição concreta.

Campeão com mais defesas de cinturão registradas no Ultimate, o ex-rei dos pesos-moscas  Demetrious Johnnson pode ter no One uma chance de decolar financeiramente. Eddie Alvarez, ex-campeão dos leves, fechou contrato recente com a organização asiática e rasgou elogios quanto ao acordo financeiro dos novos patrões.

Askren, por sua vez, pode ter no UFC a chance de lançar ao mundo seu nome como um dos melhores competidores do MMA na atualidade. Apesar da sua hegemonia em dois eventos grades de MMA, o UFC  teria o poder de colocar o invicto com 18 vitórias no cage como um dos maiores competidores que já atuaram no esporte, ao lado de outros invictos que chegaram ao cinturão, como Khabib Nurmagomedov, por exemplo.

Askren, inclusive,  já apontou que as suas chances de integrar o plantel do Ultimate são de 98%, e ainda pelo Twitter já foi desafiado pelo peso meio-médio Darren Till, com uma resposta positiva de Askren para um futuro casamento de luta.

The 170-pound division welcomes the 5-0 pro where Ben Askren currently holds the belt. Uflacker has not fought since 2012 due to a injury to his face as well as becoming more involved with the academy.

He is currently undefeated and has fought previously in both Bellator and Strikeforce, some of the top organizations in the United States.

In this organization he is expected to be a top contender for the 170-pound division belt.

Michael Chandler successfully defended his Bellator lightweight title last night at Bellator 97 with a knockout of David Rickels at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Also, welterweight champ Ben Askren finished off Andrey Koreshkov in the their co-main event, while Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal pounded out Jacob Noe in the 205-pound tourney final.

Ben Askren, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal e Douglas Lima brilharam mais forte no card do Bellator 86, realizado em Thaclervile, no estado de Oklahoma, nessa quinta-feira, 24 de janeiro. As informações são do nosso repórter Erik Fontanez.

Na luta principal da noite, Ben Askren defendia o cinturão dos meio-médios contra Karl Amoussou. Askren foi superior durante os cinco minutos do primeiro round, chegando a abrir um corte no rosto de Karl. No segundo assalto, Amoussou tentou aplicar uma chave de pé em Ben, que escapou e já se colocou em posição de vantagem, dominando mais esta etapa. No terceiro, Askren montou e aplicou duros golpes em Amoussou, impedindo que o mesmo voltasse para o quarto round. Vitória por nocaute técnica de Askren, que manteve uma invencibilidade de 11 lutas.

Pelo coevento principal, o ex-Strikeforce “King Mo” Lawal fazia sua estreia no Bellator contra o impronunciável Przemyslaw Mysiala, da Polônia. Sem muito mistério, King Mo partiu para cima de Mysiala, que chegou a tentar responder com uma boa combinação, mas foi surpreendido com dois punhos rápidos de Lawal, que o levaram ao nocaute aos 3min52s de luta.

Destaque também para a luta entre o brasileiro Douglas Lima contra Michail Tsarev. Além de se manter em pé o tempo todo, defendendo as investidas de queda de Michail, Douglas soltou as caneladas para cima do adversário. Tsarev não resistiu ao castigo, e obrigou o árbitro a interromper a luta a 1min44s do segundo round.

Ben Askren and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal shined brightest, winning their Bellator 86 outings at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. on Thursday night.

Askren put Karl Amoussou on his back for the greater part of their fight before doctors stopped the bout after the third round, while Lawal returned to competition by knocking out Przemyslaw Mysiala in their opening round.

Askren Grounds, Pounds and Busts Up Amoussou

Askren was relentlessly active in Amoussou’s guard, cutting him open in the first round of the welterweight title fight. Ammoussou attempted to land strikes from his back, but Askren’s top game proved to be superior in the opening five minutes.

Amoussou found himself in top position early in the second round and transitioned for a heel hook, but didn’t finish before Askren reversed position to get on top. From there, Askren, much like he did in the first round, actively worked in the guard to land strikes and cause more damage to Amoussou’s face.

After getting checked out by the cageside doctor for a cut over his left eye, Amoussou came out for the third round bloodied and battered. Askren again brought the fight to the ground and landed numerous strikes from half guard. The champ eventually worked his way to full mount and landed punches and hammer fists until the end of the round.

The physician stepped in to put a stop to the fight before the fourth round, giving Askren the technical knockout.

“I told you guys it was just a matter of time before my hands got some power in them,” Askren said following the win. “If you’re a welterweight anywhere in the world, you better watch out. I’m coming.”

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, impressed by Askren’s performance, congratulated the defending champ and praised him for what he just witnessed.

“That’s as dominant a performance as I have ever seen,” Rebney said, handing the welterweight belt to Askren.

With the win, Askren maintains his undefeated record at 11-0 and awaits the winner of the 170-pound tournament.

King Mo Returns with a First-Round Knockout

Lawal peppered Mysiala with jabs throughout the fight, making the Polish fighter’s nose bleed halfway through the contest. Mysiala moved well early on in the bout, but Lawal kept finding his mark as time passed.

In an effort to make up some ground, Mysiala attempted a kick-to-punch combination, but Lawal countered with looping left and right hands that put an end to the fight at the 3:52 mark of the first round.

“I [didn’t have a] strategy,” King Mo said following the win. “My goal was to come in and knock him out.”

When asked what he thinks of the rest of the 205-pound fighters in the tournament, Lawal said his plan for them is no different than the one he had for Mysiala.

“I’m going to knock them out,” Lawal replied. “That’s all I’m going to do.”

King Mo will now face Emanuel Newton in the semifinals of the light heavyweight tournament.

Lima Stops Tsarev

Douglas Lima stopped Michail Tsarev by technical knockout in the second round of their fight, and moved on in the company’s welterweight tournament bracket.

Lima controlled a majority of the first round by applying stiff takedown defense, but it was a leg kick at the end of the frame that was the beginning of the end. Tsarev, in obvious pain couldn’t apply any weight on his lead leg, and Lima continued landing low kicks until the referee put a stop the fight at  1:44 of the second period.

Ben Saunders Decisions Koffi Adzitso

Ben Saunders defeated Koffi Adzitso by unanimous decision in first fight of the main card to advance in the 170-pound tournament.

The former UFC welterweight proved to be more successful in the standup department, and all three judges saw the fight in his favor with 30-27 scores across the board.

Bellator Fighting Championships will make their 2013 debut on Spike TV on Thursday, Jan. 17, and the broadcast will feature two title fights, the company announced on Tuesday.

Lightweight champion Mike Chandler will defend his title against Season 6 tournament winner Rick Hawn, and Pat Curran will defend his featherweight belt against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire on the Spike TV debut. The event will take place at The University of California, Irvine’s Bren Center in Irvine, Calif.

The company also announced that their second broadcast will be Jan. 24, which will feature welterweight champion Ben Askren defending his title against Karl Amoussou. Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal will also be on the second event, but an opponent is yet to be determined. Lawal will have specials dedicated to him airing between the first and second Bellator broadcasts on the network.

Bellator will air events every Thursday for 12 straight weeks, officials said, and broadcasts will start at 10 p.m. ET. Viewers on the West Coast with a dish can watch the fights live at 7 p.m. PT, but cable subscribers will have to wait for a tape delay at 10 p.m. PT.

Five tournaments will take place during the upcoming season, including those in the 145-, 155-, 170-, 185- and 205-pound weight classes. Fighters such as Lawal, UFC veteran Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Seth Petruzelli will be in the 205-pound tournament, while Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima will be in the 170-pound bracket. Others will be added in the near future.

Bellator’s biggest competitor, the UFC, has long presented itself as a Pay-Per-View company. Bellator, however, has made their reputation through cable networks, most recently with MTV2 and next year with Spike — a network that used to host UFC Fight Night cards. When asked, company CEO Bjorn Rebney said there are no immediate plans for a Bellator Pay-Per-View.

Officials said the company is currently casting for its first fight-based reality show, but plans for its debut are still being worked out.

The champion of Bellator’s welterweight division and unbeaten in 10 MMA fights, Ben Askren

trains in the United States with the UFC’s Alan Belcher. The two stalwart grapplers work on their Jiu-Jitsu with the brothers Diego and Daniel Moraes.

It was during one of these training sessions that our collaborator Diego Marcello shot the following video of Askren, a collegiate wrestling champion, demonstrating his own version of the armdrag–a reverse armdrag. Pay attention to the grip Askren does that sets his way of doing the move apart from the traditional way.

Campeão dos meio-médios do Bellator e invicto em 10 lutas no MMA, Ben Askren treina nos Estados Unidos ao lado de Alan Belcher. Hoje, na era do MMA moderno e dos treinos com auxílio poderoso do Youtube, as chaves da cintura para baixo se diversificaram. Tidas como grosseria nos áureos tempos do Jiu-Jitsu, atualmente elas passaram a ser aceitas e vistas como uma habilidade preciosa no jogo de qualquer campeão.

Uma das provas disso tudo? O campeão Karl Amoussou, que faturou o GP dos meio-médios do Bellator ao finalizar Bryan Baker com uma  chave de calcanhar ao estilo Rousimar Toquinho.

O novo astro francês só precisou de 56 segundos para dar o bote na perna e encaixar o golpe letal, assim como costuma fazer o brasileiro, quando vence. Com o triunfo, além de abocanhar 100 mil verdinhas, Amoussou vai enfrentar Ben Askren pelo cinturão do evento. Veja a atuação do faixa-preta de judô:
