Dominyka Obelenyte at the 2016 Pan
It seems like Dominyka Obelenyte will be able to defend her gold medals at the 2016 World Jiu-Jitsu championship.
The reigning black belt open class and heavyweight champion confirmed today that the injuries to her right knee sustained at the superheavy final of the 2016 Pan will not require surgery.
She texted GRACIEMAG.com and revealed the results of an MRI exam performed last week: “I have a ligament sprain, dislocated knee cap, and fluid build up.Injury isn’t great but I don’t need surgery! I’m still on crutches but I’m starting physical therapy this week.”
Dominyka got injured adjusting the triangle choke on Samela Lopes and could not compete in the open class final against Andresa Correa.
She also told us how important the Worlds are for her: “I would not be the same without Worlds. I haven’t missed it since I’ve been 12 years old.”
Dominyka became the youngest athlete to be an adult black belt open class champion, men or women, when she won in 2015 with 19 years old.
