O MMA feminino continua a crescer e ganhar espaço neste esporte de maioria masculina. Neste ritmo, o Invicta FC, evento exclusivo de mulheres, tem como mais nova contratada a atleta Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12v, 2d).

A competidora assinou contrato no dia 5 de fevereiro e já tem sua primeira adversária definida na organização, a  curitibana finalizadora Jennifer Maia. Elas se enfrentam na próxima edição do Invicta, em abril, sem data confirmada.

“Estamos animados em dar as boas vindas à Zoila, uma estrela deste esporte”, disse a presidente do Invicta, Shannon Knapp. “Ela acumula um ótimo retrospecto e vem crescendo no ranking. Estamos confiantes que a chegada dela vá alavancar ainda mais a imagem do Invicta”, disse.

A atleta de 29 anos é esposa do lutador do Strikeforce Jorge Gurgel, e tem um cartel de seis vitórias e apenas uma derrota. Ex-atleta do Bellator, Zoila foi a primeira campeã peso-palha da história da organização, após quebrar a invencibilidade da japonesa Megumi Fuji, que possuía um cartel de 22-0 até ser derrotada por Zoila, a “Princesa Guerreira”.

Female MMA is gaining ground in what has been a male-dominated playing field.

Keeping up with the pace, Invicta FC, an event exclusively for women, has added Zoila Gurgel (12-2) to its roster.

The competitor signed the contract on Feb. 5 and already knows who her first opponent in the promotion will be: the tapout artist from Curitiba, Brazil, Jennifer Maia. They will face off at an Invicta show in April, the exact date of which has yet to be confirmed.

“We’re excited about having Zoila, a star of this sport,” said Invicta president Shannon Knapp. “She has a great background and has been moving up in the ranks. We’re confident that her arrival will improve Invicta’s image even more.”

The 29-year-old is the wife of MMA veteran Jorge Gurgel. Zoila was the first 115-pound champion of the Bellator promotion, having ended Megumi Fuji’s unbeaten career, which stood at 22-0 until then.

The Bellator promotion will be setting up shop at Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., on Dec. 7. The marquee fight for this, their 83rd show, is the featherweight tournament final between Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev.

Bellator women’s 155-pound champion Zoila Frausto, the wife of MMA fighter Jorge Gurgel, will take on the revelation Jessica Eye in a non-title affair.

Promising New Yorker Anthony Leone will be taking on former bantamweight champ Zach Makovsky. Makovsky holds a record of 14 wins in 17 fights and lost the belt to Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 65.

Leone, who has previously fought under the WEC and Strikeforce banners, has 11 wins in 16 career fights. Today he shows us how he likes controlling an opponent turtling on all fours. The trick is to know where to stick your hands and the right timing to use your legs.

Namorada do lutador Jorge Gurgel, a campeã da categoria 52kg Zoila Frausto encara a revelação Jessica Eye, em luta que não vale o título.

Já o promissor novaiorquino Anthony Leone enfrenta o ex-campeão dos galos, Zach Makovsky. Makovsky tem um cartel com 14 triunfos em 17 lutas, e perdeu o cinturão para Eduardo Dantas, na edição 65.
