At every UFC event, three categories are assessed and rewarded with a hefty bonus: the prizes for Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night and Knockout of the Night at UFC on Fox 5 were announced shortly after the event ended last Saturday in Seattle.

Knockout of the Night honors went to Yves Edwards, who put out Jeremy Stephens’ lights in the first round with a combination of punches. Besides his show and win purses, he took home an extra $65,ooo.

The Fight of the Night bonus went to Scott Jorgensen and John Albert. Each earned an extra $65,000, with Jorgensen adding an extra $65,000 padding for the rear-naked choke that garnered him the Submission of the Night award.

Em toda edição do UFC, três quesitos são avaliados e premiados com um gordo bônus. Os prêmios de melhor luta, melhor finalização e melhor nocaute do UFC on Fox 5 foram divulgados logo após o evento de sábado, em Seattle, Washington.

O nocaute da noite ficou com Yves Edwards, que desligou Jeremy Stephens ainda no primeiro round, com uma bela combinação de socos. O atleta levou pra casa, além de sua bolsa, mas 65 mil dólares.

O bônus por melhor luta da noite ficou com o embate entre Scott Jorgensen e John Albert. John recebeu os 65 mil dólares de bônus. Já Scott, que contabilizou 65 mil com a luta da noite, levou mais 65 mil por ter executado a finalização da noite, um estrangulamento pelas costas aplicado a um segundo do fim do primeiro assalto. No total, Jorgensen, que é treinado pelos Moraes no Jiu-Jitsu, levou para casa uma bolada de 130 mil dólares, fora o valor da bolsa.

Yves Edwards knocked out Jeremy Stephens in the first round of the last preliminary fight at UFC on FOX 5, in Seattle, on Saturday. Edwards landed a counter right hand, ending the contest at 1:55 of the round.

Stephens loaded up and tried to land some heavy punches in the early moments of the fight. Edwards stayed cautious, keeping away from heavy shots in the process.

Just as it looked Edwards was stepping away from further heavy punches, he landed the counter right hand that sent Stephens falling to the canvas. Edwards followed through to the ground with more punches and an elbow before the referee stepped in to bring a stop to the contest.

“I feel really good,” Edwards said. “Damn, I’m smooth.”

Edwards, now 41-18-1 in his MMA career, is back on the winning track after dropping his last contest to Tony Ferguson at the TUF 14 Finale in December 2011. Stephens loses his third consecutive fight, and hasn’t seen a win since June of 2011.

Raphael Assuncao defeated Mike Easton by decision in the second to last preliminary fight on FX. Assuncao remained patient and picked his spots, landing several strikes on his opponent throughout the three-round fight. Easton appeared to hesitate on many occasions, and his opponent kept with his approach all the way to final bell.

Judges saw the contest unanimously in Assuncao’s favor, scoring the fight 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

Assuncao has won two fights in a row since dropping to 135 pounds from the featherweight division. Easton loses his first fight after collecting an eight-fight winning streak.

Ramsey Nijem vs. Joe Proctor

Ramsey Nijem was successful in his prelim fight with Joe Proctor, winning a unanimous decision. The fight went back and forth for a majority of the bout, making the contest a close one to call. Nejim, however, persevered through strikes that wobbled him, and edged out his opponent in striking and octagon control.

Judges saw it in the former TUF finalist’s favor with scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

Daron Cruickshank vs. Henry Martinez

Daron Cruickshank earned the night’s first knockout, landing a head kick on Henry Martinez in the second round of their preliminary bout. Cruickshank dominated Martinez, but was unable to put him away immediately due to his opponent’s impressive durability. After several punches and kicks, Cruickshank finally dropped his foe with a right leg that landed cleanly on his opponent’s left ear. The finish came at 2:57 of the frame.

Abel Trujillo vs. Marcus LeVesseur

Abel Trujilo made a successful debut in the UFC with a second-round finish of Marcus LeVesseur in their prelim fight. Trujillo showed how much power he has, landing heavy strikes on his opponent on his way to the TKO. LeVesseur, beaten and battered, covered up on the ground, which allowed Trujillo to land several knees to the body. The fight came to a stop at 3:56 of the round.

Dennis Siver vs. Nam Phan

Denis Siver dominated Nam Phan in their prelim fight, collecting the unanimous decision with scores of 30-24, 30-25 and 30-26. Siver mixed up strikes on the feet, while Phan had little to offer in terms of offense. Siver, who typically likes to keep fights on the feet, took Phan down a several times, gaining top position and raining punches on the ground on his way to the win.

Scott Jorgensen vs. John Albert

Scott Jorgensen finished John Albert in the first round of their fight. Jorgensen secured his opponent’s back, sinking in a rear-naked choke, forcing Albert to tap with just a second left in the round.

Another season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show comes to a close this coming Saturday, December 3, and there’s a Brazilian in the running to be one of the champions of the show’s 14th season.

A native of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, Diego Brandão has been turning heads with his performances on the program. The featherweight, who boasts 13 wins in his 20-fight career, knocked out three opponents in the first round. He will take on the USA’s Dennis Bermudez in the grand finale this Saturday. The veteran Yves Edwards is another of the evening’s attractions.

In the lightweight final John Dodson takes on TJ Dillashaw, while the coaches of the blue and orange teams, Michael Bisping and Jason Miller, will do battle in the world’s most famous cage.

O reality show The Ultimate Fighter, chega ao final de mais uma temporada neste sábado, dia 3 de dezembro e tem brasileiro no confronto que vai decidir o campeão da 14ª edição.

O amazonense Diego Brandão, mais conhecido por Ceará, vem impressionando no programa. O peso-pena nocauteou três oponentes no primeiro round e conta com 13 vitórias em 20 lutas na carreira. Ele vai enfrentar o americano Dennis Bermudez na finalíssima de sábado. O veterano Yves Edwards é outra atração.

Na divisão dos leves Jonh Dodson encara TJ Dillashaw, enquanto os treinadores das equipes azul e laranja, Michael Bisping e Jason Miller, vão se digladiar na gaiola mais famosa do mundo.

UFC on Versus 6 treated the US capital, Washington DC, to a bantamweight title fight, and they got a card where only two fights went the distance, to boot. One of the two was the said title fight, between Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson.

Cruz dominated all five of the rounds, landing sightly takedowns and even a power-laden supplex, connected with potent knees, took back mount and came close to finishing with a choke. Demetrious Johnson ended up with an unsightly swollen mound on his cheek and, after the fifth-round bell had sounded, the judges had the easy task of handing the unanimous decision win to Cruz, who defended his title for the second time and notched the 19th win in his 20-fight career, where his sole loss was duly avenged.

Also on the main card, Stefan Struve submitted Pat Barry with an armbar from the triangle, Anthony Johnson knocked out Charlie Brenneman, and Matt Wiman outdid Mac Danzig with a unanimous decision.

On the preliminary card, Yves Edwards steered clear of some hazardous moments to counter with a knockout over Rafaello “Trator”.

O UFC on Versus 6 trouxe a disputa do cinturão de galos na capital dos EUA, Washington. E a ação, neste sábado, foi garantida numa noite em que apenas duas das dez lutas acabaram por decisão dos juízes. Uma delas, justamente, a que valia o título, entre Dominick Cruz e Demetrious Johnson.

Cruz dominou bem nos cinco rounds. Conseguiu belas quedas com um poderoso suplê, conectou fortes joelhadas, pegou as costas no chão e chegou perto da finalização, com um estrangulamento. Demetrious Johnson ficou com o rosto bem inchado e, após o gongo final, só restou aos jurados apontarem o triunfo por decisão unânime a favor de Cruz, que defendeu o cinto pela segunda vez e chegou à 19ª vitória em 20 apresentações (uma derota).

Ainda no card principal, Stefan Struve finalizou Pat Barry com um armlock do triângulo, Anthony Johnson nocauteou Charlie Brenneman e Matt Wiman bateu Mac Danzig na decisão unânime.

Nas preliminares, Yves Edwards controlou os momentos de perigo até o nocaute contra Rafaello Trator.

The party is all set to begin in Washington, USA. UFC on Versus 6 has a bunch of promising matchups lined up for Saturday and weigh-ins just went down, with almost all the fighters making weight without much ado, as reported by our collaborator Junior Samurai. Only Mike Easton’s opponent, Byron Bloodworth, couldn’t make the cut and will be penalized but will fight.

In the evening’s main event, Dominick Cruz defends his bantamweight belt against Demetrious Johnson, who works on his ground game with Lloyd Irvin, while the lumbering Stefan Struve takes on Pat Barry. Now Brazil’s Rafaello “Trator” faces Yves Edwards, who turned 35 today and was already celebrating as he weighed in, with a party hat and whistle and the works.

A festa já esta pronta em Washington, nos EUA. O UFC em Versus 6 vem com boas lutas neste sábado e a pesagem rolou há pouco, onde os lutadores bateram o peso sem maiores problemas, como informa Junior Samurai. Somente o adversário de Mike Easton, Byron Bloodworth, não estava no peso, será penalizado financeiramente mas vai haver luta.

Na luta principal da noite, Dominick Cruz defende o cinturão dos galos contra Demetrious Johnson, apoiado nos treinos de chão recente com Lloyd Irvin, enquanto o gigante Stefan Struve encara Pat Barry. Já o brasileiro Rafaello Trator enfrentará Yves Edwards, que completou 35 anos hoje e entrou comemorando com apetrechos de festa de aniversário, como chapeuzinho e lingua de sogra.

UFC 131 took the goods to Vancouver, Canada, this Saturday night. In the main event, Junior Cigano notched his seventh-straight win, his sixth in the UFC, and now he’ll get his shot at the heavyweight belt. Check out the rundown of the main card:

Junior Cigano vs. Shane Carwin

Early on, it seemed clear Carwin would rather not risk dealing with his opponent’s boxing skills, opting to try to take it to the ground. In the opening round, Cigano landed strikes handily and nearly ended it, with Shane taking an onslaught of strikes while on all fours, going into the second-round break showing heavy damage to his face. After a lukewarm second, Cigano again dominated the action in the third round, even successfully shooting for takedowns. It was the first time Carwin went a whole three rounds, but the unanimous decision win was Junior’s, and now the winner will get his shot at Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight belt.

Kenny Florian vs. Diego Nunes

Diego Nunes had a good first round and managed a knockdown in the waning moments. In the second, Florian found his rhythm and took the lead with takedowns. In the third, with a steady stream of blood flowing from his head, Nunes seemed to have worn out. Kenny forged ahead with the takedowns and took the unanimous decision. It was Florian’s debut as a featherweight.

Demian Maia and Mark Munoz

Demian Maia had the better start. In the first round he landed more potent strikes in the standup exchanges. In the second, the black belt seemed to have run out of gas, mainly with his takedown attempts. Munoz went on to control the fight both with takedowns and strikes. Demian tried a few attacks on the ground but to no avail. Munoz took the unanimous decisions.

Jon Olav Einemo vs. Dave Herman

Olav came on strong in the first round with solid takedowns and strikes. It looked like Olav was sure to win in the second, but Herman landed a knee that set off a sequence of fight-ending strikes, taking the win by technical knockout.

Donald Cerrone vs. Vagner Rocha

Vagner had a promising start with a nice takedown. He was swimming upstream from there on out, though, as Cerrone took control of the fight with leg kicks. Pablo Popovitch black belt Rocha didn’t get to put any of his Jiu-Jitsu to work during the three rounds. Keeping out of danger with his potent leg kicks, Cerrone took the well-deserved unanimous decision.

O UFC 131 trouxe lutas movimentadas em Vancouver, no Canadá, na noite deste sábado. No principal desafio, Junior Cigano chegou à sétima vitória seguida, a sexta no UFC, e agora vai ter a chance pelo título de pesados. Confira todos os resultados e análises das lutas principais:

Junior Cigano x Shane Carwin

Nos primeiros instantes, Carwin dava a entender que não queria se arriscar contra o boxe do oponente, tentando aplicar quedas. Na primeira parcial, Cigano acertou bem com socos quando quase definiu. Shane apanhou bastante de quatro apoios e foi para o intervalo como o rosto avariado. Após segundo round morno, Cigano voltou a dominar na terceira parcial, tendo conseguido até quedar. Foi a primeira vez que Carwin lutou três rounds, mas a vitória foi por unanimidade para Junior, que agora vai ter finalmente a chance contra Cain Velásquez pelo cinturão de pesados.

Kenny Florian x Diego Nunes

Diego Nunes foi bem no assalto inicial e conseguiu um knockdown com socos nos últimos segundos. Na segunda parcial, Florian encaixou o seu jogo e aplicou boas quedas para levar vantagem. Na terceira parcial, com um sangramento na cabeça, Nunes parecia mais cansado. Kenny insistiu nas quedas e, mesmo com o brasileiro sem desistir até o fim, Kenny levou a melhor por decisão unânime. Foi a estreia de Florian no peso pena.

Demian Maia x Mark Munoz

Demian Maia começou melhor. Na primeira parcial, conectou bons golpes na trocação. Na segunda parcial, o faixa-preta pareceu se desgastar, principalmente nas tentativas de queda. Monoz passou a controlar a luta,com quedas e socos. Demian tentou alguns ataques no chão, mas não foi suficiente. Vitória de Munoz por decisão unânime.

Jon Olav Einemo x Dave Herman

Olav veio bem no primeiro round, com boas quedas e bons socos. Na segunda parcial parecia que a vitória de Olav estava garantida, mas Herman aplicou uma boa joelhada e deu início a uma sequência de golpes que o levou a vitória por nocaute técnico.

Donald Cerrone x Vagner Rocha

Vagner começou bem, tendo aplicado uma boa queda. No entanto, logo depois disso Cerrone passou a controlar a luta com muitos chutes nas pernas. Aluno de Pablo Popovitch, faixa-preta, Rocha não conseguiu impor o seu Jiu-Jitsu nos três rounds. Sem sofrer perigo, na base dos chutes, Cerrone teve merecida a vitória por decisão unânime.

Now around here, news about MMA and Jiu-Jitsu movies is breaking every week.

There are already projects underway to produce a movie about Rickson, one on Minotauro, and recently the director of the movie “Jean Charles”, Henrique Goldman, said he is getting ready to produce “O Cara” (“The Man”), to be shot in Brazil, the USA and Japan. The movie will be a work of fiction, “but anchored in reality,” Henrique is quoted as saying in the “Gente Boa” column of O Globo newspaper. “These guys have amazing life stories – stories of overcoming hardships,” he added.

It was in Canada, though, that the first feature film of this new genre made some noise, at the documentary festival Toronto Hot Docs. “Fightville” tells the tale of the hard lives led by athletes who may never make it to stardom, but live and breathe fighting.
