O card do próximo Strikeforce, no próximo dia 29, está recheado de candidatos à finalização mais bonita da noite.

Na luta principal, Gilbert Melendez representa o Jiu-Jitsu ensinado por seu professor Cesar Gracie. Na luta feminina, Cat Zingano disputa com Amanda Nunes quem tem mais chão, força e técnica.

Nas demais lutas, só fera: Guto Inocente, Jorge Gurgel, Jorge Santiago, Yuri Villefort… Duro de escolher quem será o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu mais comentado ao final.

Entre todos eles, há um campeão da arte suave que faz sua estreia do alto de uma longa carreira.

Com 23 vitórias em 29 combates, o amazonense Adriano Martins faz sua estreia no Strikeforce em Sacramento após anos de batalhas de kimono no Tijuca, e nos ringues do Jungle Fight.

Principal representante da Top Life, em Manaus, Adriano encara Isaac Vallie-Flagg e defende os treinos no calor amazônico. “Não preciso estar lá fora passando por dificuldades, porque sei que nosso Estado tem como me ajudar, apoiando não só eu como outros atletas daqui” disse ele ao colaborador Arthur Castro. Adriano conta com o apoio de grandes empresas amazonenses.

Adriano fechou um contrato de quatro lutas com o Strikeforce, e a primeira é contra este americano de 13 triunfos em 17 lutas – Isaac vem de vitória sobre Gesias Cavalcante, por decisão dividida dos jurados.

O brasileiro embarca sábado para os Estados Unidos com sua equipe e lá finaliza o processo de perda de peso. “Essa é a parte mais difícil, pois preciso perder 16kg para bater 70 um dia antes do show. Para obter sucesso  na carreira internacional, estou me espelharndo em lutadores renomados como meu conterrâneo José Aldo, Anderson Silva e Vitor Belfort “, comentou.

Também entre os leves, Gilbert Melendez e Pat Healy se engalfinham pelo título.

Já Cat Zingano é vista como uma das grandes estrelas da noite.

“Ela tem toneladas de talento, e agora está chegando ao Strikeforce para se testar contra as melhores. Com uma sólida carreira no wrestling e sua própria escola de Jiu-Jitsu, no Colorado, ela é uma lutadora completa, que representa uma ameaça a todas as concorrentes do peso-galo”, disse o produtor Scott Coker ao MMAJunkie.com.

The card for the next Strikeforce show, coming up on the 29th, is packed with candidates for the “Submission of the Night” award.

In the main event, Gilbert Melendez will be carrying the flag of his Jiu-Jitsu teacher Cesar Gracie. In the female fight, Cat Zingano and Amanda Nunes will lock horns to see who’s got more grappling, skill and technique.

The rest of the card is also studded with stalwart fighters: Guto Inocente, Jorge Gurgel, Jorge Santiago… Predicting the Jiu-Jitsu black belt to make the most noise is a tough pick.

Among them, one gentle-art whiz will be making his promotional debut after a lengthy career.

With 23 wins in 29 fights, Amazonas State native Adriano Martins will be making his Strikeforce debut in Sacramento, California, after years of gi-clad combat at the Tijuca Tennis Club, as well as MMA action in his native Brazil at events like Jungle Fight.

The biggest name out of Top Life team, Adriano will be taking on Isaac Vallie-Flagg to prove the training in the equatorial heat of his home is all he needs. “I don’t need to be abroad going through a rough time, because I know our state can help me, backing not just me but other athletes from these parts,” he told our contributor Arthur Castro. Adriano is sponsored by a number of big companies from the state of Amazonas.

Adriano sealed a four-fight deal with Strikeforce, of which this fight against Isaac – an American with 13 wins in 17 fights, as well as a split decision win over Gesias Cavalcante – is the first.

The Brazilian and his team will be taking off for the United States this Saturday. There, he will go through the final process of shedding weight. “That’s the toughest part, because I have to lose 16 kg [35 lbs] to make 70 one day before the show. To achieve success in my international career I’m modeling myself on renowned fighters from my homeland like José Aldo, Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort,” he said.

The show will also feature a lightweight title fight, with Gilbert Melendez defending his crown against Pat Healy.

Now Cat Zingano is also being touted as one of the big stars of the night.

“She’s got tons of talent, and now she’s arriving at Strikeforce to test herself against the best. With a solid wrestling career and her own Jiu-Jitsu school in Colorado, she’s a complete fighter who’s a threat to all the competition at bantamweight,” promotional president Scott Coker told the MMAJunkie.com website.

Danillo and Yuri Villefort are Strikeforce’s latest hirees. And the pair of siblings already know against whom and when they’ll be making their debuts in the promotion. On June 24 in Washington Danilo (13-3) will face Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt (11-5), while Yuri (6-0) will step up against Travis Bush (5-2-1). The matchups feature on the card for Strikeforce: Challengers 16.

It will be the second time the brothers fight on the same evening. The last was at Bitetti Combat 6 in Brasília, where both were victorious. Danillo will figure on the main card of the show, thus making the television broadcast.

“I watched Britt’s fight and for sure he’s a tough guy. But I saw some flaws in his game and I’m going to knock him out in the first or second round, so everyone should tune in,” menaces Danillo.

“I’ve been training my whole life and this is my first opportunity in a major event. I’ll be 100% ready on June 24 and, one way or another, I’m going to end this fight and give the fans what they want to see,” says Yuri.

Danillo e Yuri Villefort são os mais novos contratados do Strikeforce. E os irmãos já têm adversário e data para estrear no cage da organização. “Assisti às lutas do Britt e, tenho certeza, ele é um cara durão. Mas vi os erros no jogo dele e vou nocauteá-lo no primeiro ou segundo round, assistam”, dispara Danillo.

“Treino a minha vida inteira e essa é a minha primeira oportunidade num grande evento. No dia 24 de junho estarei 100% pronto e, de um jeito ou de outro, vou terminar essa luta e dar aos fãs o que eles querem assistir”, diz Yuri.

Former ATT members – big-name athletes like Strikeforce fighter Gesias Cavalcante, UFC rep Jorge Santiago, Danillo Índio and Yuri Villefort – have joined forces with former UFC champion Rashad Evans to form a new MMA team.

Besides the aforementioned fighters, muay thai world champion Cosmo Alexandre and K-1 kickboxer Vitor Miranda have also joined the troop. The team’s doors will also be open for training camps and for the likes of Antonio Pezão to participate.

The grappling coach for the team is Sérgio Babu, who worked for years with the BTT.

Ex-membros da ATT, atletas de peso como o lutador do Strikeforce Gesias Cavalcante, o representante do UFC Jorge Santiago, Danillo Índio e Yuri Villefort se unem a feras como o ex-campeão do UFC Rashad Evans num novo time de MMA.

Além dos nomes citados, também fazem parte da equipe lutadores como o campeão de muay thai Cosmo Alexandre e Vitor Miranda. O time também estará aberto a camps de treinamento e feras como Antonio Pezão devem participar.

O convocado para treinar o chão da equipe foi Sérgio Babu, que por anos trabalha na BTT.

O MMA ganhou mais uma capa em “O Globo” hoje, desta vez na Revista Megazine, voltada para os jovens leitores. Com o gancho da chegada do UFC Rio em agosto, a reportagem de Lauro Neto enfoca praticantes de 20 e poucos anos, ou menos (homens e mulheres), que treinam as artes marciais mistas em casa, em academias como a BTT e em favelas.

A matéria trata também das feras da nova geração, como Yuri Villefort, filho de Francisco Índio e irmão de Danillo.

O Rock and Rumble 3, que será realizado no Hard Rock da Flórida, no dia 4 de junho, conta com a estreia do Pablo Popovitch, campeão do ADCC 2009. Outro faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu confirmado é Rafael Dias, que conta com passagem na IFL e WEC. 

“Estarei em ação no evento Action Fight League – Rumble on the Rock III. O adversário ainda não foi confirmado, mas o treinamento já está sendo feito e com certeza buscarei a vitoria”, diz Rafael, que confirma a presença de mais alguns representantes da arte suave. 

São eles Yuri Villefort, que está em destaque na NOCAUTE #87, e Ailton Barbosa.

Rock and Rumble 3, to take place at the Hard Rock in Florida this June 4, marks the MMA debut of Pablo Popovitch, winner of ADCC 2009. Another Jiu-Jitsu black belt confirmed on the card is Rafael Dias, who has been through the IFL and WEC events in the past.

“I’ll be in action at the Action Fight League – Rock and Rumble II. My opponent hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we’re already training and I’m looking to win,” says Rafael, who confirmed other gentle art representatives will be there too: Yuri Villefort and Ailton Barbosa.

Take note: Yuri Villefort, brother of Danillo Indio, will provide much to talk about in the rings and cages. After seeing two teammates defeated (Ediane India and Buscapé) prior to his challenge at Bitetti Combat 6, against Julio Cesar Merenda, the young fighter was undeterred and got a good win in the octagon.

“It’s never nice to see a friend from training lose, but that’s part of the game. I tried to stay focused on my fight,” he told GRACIEMAG.com.

Now unbeaten in five matches, the fighter was pleased to appear for the first time before his home crowd, in Brasilia.

“It was really great. A lot of first-rate guys were there, like Gesias Cavalcante, who was here today, and Minotauro, who has never fought MMA in Brazil. They reached a point in their careers where events here could no longer afford them. I was happy for this opportunity that Amaury and Fernando gave me to fight here, especially in Brasilia,” he celebrated.

The solid showing, according to him, was due to the work done at the ATT in Florida.

“I have no complaints. I’m training with people like Gesias, Jorge Santiago and Parrumpinha, among many others. All these guys behind me gives me a great deal of support. Just train hard and do serious work, and the results will come.”

After his triumph at BC6, broadcast around the world via the internet, Yuri is awaiting further opportunities.

“Now I’ll rest and start training again gradually. I’m waiting on new chances and will keep on working,” he said in finishing.

Anote aí: Yuri Villefort, irmão de Danillo Índio, ainda vai dar muito o que falar nos ringues e cages. Depois de ver dois companheiros de equipe derrotados (Ediane Índia e Buscapé) antes de seu desafio no Bitetti Combat 6, contra Julio Cesar Merenda, o jovem lutador não se intimidou e conseguiu uma boa vitória no octagon.     

“Nunca é bom ver um amigo de treino perder, mas faz parte do jogo. Procurei ficar focado no meu e lutar”, declarou ao GRACIEMAG.com. 

Agora invicto em cinco combates, o lutador ficou contente por se apresentar pela primeira vez diante de sua torcida, no Distrito Federal. 

“Foi muito bom. Muita gente de ponta, como o próprio Gesias Cavalcante, que estava aqui hoje, e o Minotauro, jamais lutaram MMA no Brasil. Eles chegaram a um ponto da carreira que os eventos daqui não tinham mais como bancar eles. Fiquei feliz por essa oportunidade que o Amaury e o Fernando me deram de lutar aqui, ainda mais em Brasília”, comemorou. 

A boa apresentação, segundo ele, se deve ao trabalho feito na ATT, na Flórida.   

“Não tenho do que reclamar. Treino com pessoas como o Gesias, o Jorge Santiago e o Parrumpinha, entre tantos outros. Todo esse pessoal atrás de mim me dá um suporte muito grande. É só treinar duro e trabalhar sério, que os resultados virão.” 

Depois do triunfo no BC6, transmitido para todo o mundo pela internet, Yuri aguarda novas oportunidades. 

“Agora vou descansar e voltar a treinar aos poucos. Fico no aguardo de novas chances e sigo trabalhando”, encerra.
