Yasmine Wilson on the podium

Yasmine Wilson, from Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire, fought in the WPJJ Trials London in the beginning of March.

She finished first both at her weight division and the absolute.

With the results, Yasmine won the right to compete at the WPJJ 2012, next April, with all expenses paid by the event.

GMA member Kev Capel of Roger Gracie Buckinghamshire is specially proud of one his students.

Purple belt Yasmine Wilson was invited at the last minute to compete at the 2011 ADCC under-60kg female division.

With one day’s notice, Yasmine made weight and had no fear of facing world champion Michelle Nicolini in her first match.

Capel narrates the performance of his student: “ The ADCC said there was a last minute injury and asked if she could make weight and was prepared to face off world champion Michelle Nicolini. She said yes to both! Yasmine defended some early submission attempts by Michelle before sucumbing to a toe hold that was sunk in deep. It was a great opportunity to gain experience at the very highest level for a purple belt who took silver in the Worlds earlier this year.”

Mackenzie Dern (Gracie Humaitá), de 18 anos, não perde um Mundial desde 2007. Foram dois ouros na azul juvenil, dois na faixa-azul adulto e agora o primeiro como faixa-roxa.

“É sempre muito bom, mas se eu conseguir ganhar cinco na faixa-preta, isso sim seria ótimo. Mas é mais uma medalha importante demais. Todo mundo treina muito duro para chegar aqui. Isso demonstra que o trabalho duro é recompensado”, comenta ela, com maturidade.

Mackenzie fez quatro lutas na faixa-roxa peso pena, na última sexta-feira. Ela finalizou primeiro no triângulo, venceu a segunda por pontos e pegou a terceira no estrangulamento, apagando a adversária. Na final, a oponente foi a dura inglesa Yasmine Wilson, finalizada no braço quando o placar apontava 19 a 0. Uma vitória de gente grande.

“Eu acho que não fico mais nervosa, só quero que a luta comece logo, essas coisas. Assim que cumprimento a adversária, sinto a pessoa e consigo controlar o kimono dela, fico relaxado e parece que estou treinando com o pessoal na Gracie Humaitá. Não ouço ou vejo mais nada, com exceção da Leticia (Ribeiro) e do meu pai. Meu pai grita bem alto”, brinca a namorada de Augusto Tanquinho.

A jovem filha de Megaton e Luka Dias está se mudando para o Brasil no sábado, mas volta para o Mundial Sem Kimono, nos EUA, em novembro. “Vou continuar competindo, quero manter o ritmo”, ela encerra. De fato, está dando certo.
