Após sua estreia em maio deste ano, a World Jiu-Jitsu Expo 2013 promete ser um evento mágico para os amantes da arte suave.

É o que garante o faixa-preta Renzo Gracie, ex-Pride e UFC, principal organizador do evento, marcado para 19 e 20 de outubro novamente em Long Beach, no estado da Califórnia.

GRACIEMAG: Qual o balanço da primeira edição da Jiu-Jitsu Expo, em 2012?

RENZO GRACIE: Maio de 2012 foi o momento perfeito para realizar a feira e as lutas casadas, então acertamos em cheio. O Long Beach Convention Center encheu-se da pura adrenalina relacionada ao Jiu-Jitsu. Foi uma experiência inacreditável. A 1ª World Jiu-Jitsu Expo foi toda produzida dentro de dois meses e meio. Havia mais de 500 competidores no torneio, oferecemos seminários gratuitos com alguns dos melhores atletas de Jiu-Jitsu do mundo, enfim, foi uma superexposição com tudo relacionado ao Jiu-Jitsu. Com dojôs lotados, a 1ª WJJE reuniu sob o mesmo teto tudo e todos ligados ao Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Reunimos grandes nomes do esporte, do passado e do presente, e demos destaques para as histórias, lendas e marcas que transformaram o Jiu-Jitsu no fenômeno que ele é agora. Acredito que a primeira edição tenha sido o começo do que vai se tornar rapidamente uma das principais exposições esportivas do mundo. Foi a primeira de muitas.

O que muda para a segunda Jiu-Jitsu Expo?

Ela será dez vezes maior e melhor do que a primeira, será o mais puro Jiu-Jitsu. A WJJE vai oferecer 8.500 metros quadrados de espaço de exposição, com tudo relacionado ao Jiu-Jitsu. Desta vez, o evento será realizado em dois dias, no sábado e domingo, 19 e 20 de outubro. Além das marcas, as lendas, os autógrafos, as sessões de perguntas, exposições de fotos e a chance de fazer contato com algum dos maiores nomes do esporte, a WJJE desta vez vai apresentar um torneio com os grandes nomes do esporte, com mais lutas emocionantes. Como se não bastasse este torneio, vamos sediar seminários de Jiu-Jitsu grátis, ministrados por feras do Jiu-Jitsu e do MMA também. O público ainda terá a chance de conferir uma exposição fotográfica dos maiores lutadores do mundo e muito mais.

After the maiden event, in May of this year, the 2013 World Jiu-Jitsu Expo promises to deliver even more magic for gentle-art fans to relish.

That’s what Renzo Gracie, the head organizer of the event and a former star of the Pride FC and UFC promotions, says you can count on at the October 19 and 20 event in Long Beach California.

GRACIEMAG: What’s your appraisal of the first Jiu-Jitsu Expo event, in 2012?

RENZO GRACIE: May 2012 was the perfect moment to hold the fair and the supermatches, so we nailed it on the head. The Long Beach Convention Center was charged with Jiu-Jitsu-induced adrenaline. It was an unbelievable experience. The first World Jiu-Jitsu Expo was produced entirely within a two-and-a-half-month period. There were more than 500 competitors at the tournament, we offered free seminars with some of the best athletes in world Jiu-Jitsu—in all it was a superexposition with all things Jiu-Jitsu. The mats were packed, and WJJE 1 gathered everything and everybody involved in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under one roof. We had the sport’s big names from past and present, and we highlighted the history, legends and brands that transformed Jiu-Jitsu into the phenomenon it is today. I feel the first installment was the start of what will rapidly become one of the world’s premier sporting expos. It was the first of many.

What will be different at the second Jiu-Jitsu Expo?

It will be ten times bigger and better than the first one; it’ll be the purest Jiu-Jitsu. The WJJE will feature 91,000 square feet of exposition floor space, with everything Jiu-Jitsu related. This time, the event will take place over a two-day span, on Saturday and Sunday, October 19 and 20. Besides the brands, legends, autographs, Q & A sessions, photo exhibits and the opportunity to rub elbows with some of the biggest names of the sport, this time the WJJE will feature a tournament where the big names of the sport face off, with more exciting matches. As if the tournament weren’t enough, we’ll be holding free Jiu-Jitsu seminars conducted by both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA stars. The public will get to see a photo exhibit of the greatest fighters on the planet, and much more.
