A espera acabou. Glover Teixeira vai mesmo encarar Jon Jones pela disputa de cinturão dos meio-pesados, em fevereiro de 2014. Dana White confirmou a luta nesta quinta-feira, em conversa com a ESPN:

“É isso que o campeão quer. Provavelmente, teremos essa luta no card da véspera do Super Bowl, em Nova Jersey”, declarou o presidente do Ultimate.

Com o aval do patrão, Glover deu assim um chega-para-lá no sueco Alexander Gustaffson, que impressionou o mundo ao castigar Jon Jones no UFC do último sábado, obrigando o campeão a sair do octagon carregado pelos treinadores. Gustaffson foi para cima, mas Jones mostrou mais fôlego e venceu por decisão unânime dos jurados. Foi sua
décima vitória seguida na organização.

Já o mineiro Glover, que viu tudo de camarote, está invicto no UFC, com cinco vitórias consecutivas desde que enfim conseguiu seu visto americano e chegou ao evento. Sua última vitória foi por nocaute em cima de Ryan Bader, no UFC BH.
