A fight between former cast members of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show has been confirmed for the December final event of the program’s 16th season.

Making his debut in the bantamweight division, Brazil’s Marcos Vinicius Vina, 32, will face the USA’s Johnny Bedford, a member of the 2011 TUF 14. The Brazilian was on the cast for the maiden season of TUF Brazil. The fight is set for December 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vina was a featherweight semifinalist, exiting the contest after losing to Godofredo Pepey. His resurrection came in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais at UFC 147, when he had a come-from-behind win after knocking out Wagner Galeto in the third round, after showing off a durable chin early on.

Even with the win, Vina decided to drop down a division and fight at 61 kg (135 lbs).

“I’m overjoyed with the opportunity the UFC is giving me. I’d been waiting for a fight since the day after my win over Galeto, in June. I’ll give my life in that octagon to win again,” said the fighter, now with a record of 20 wins and three losses.

Um combate de ex-participantes do reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”, o TUF, está confirmado para o evento final da 16ª temporada do programa, em dezembro.

Fazendo sua estreia no peso-galo, o brasileiro Marcos Vinicius Vina, 32 anos, enfrenta o americano Johnny Bedford, que participou do TUF 14, em 2011. O paranaense integrou o time de participantes do “TUF Brasil”, em sua primeira edição. O duelo será no dia 15 de dezembro, em Las Vegas, nos EUA.

Vina disputou uma das semifinais do torneio entre os penas, onde acabou derrotado por Godofredo Pepey.  A reabilitação veio no UFC 147, em Minas Gerais, onde ele conquistou uma grande virada, nocauteando Wagner Galeto no terceiro round, após mostrar um queixo duro ao suportar potentes golpes de seu compatriota no começo da luta.

Mesmo com a vitória, Vina optou por descer de categoria, passando a lutar na divisão até 61kg.

“Fiquei muito feliz com a oportunidade que o UFC está me dando. Estava esperando por uma luta desde o dia seguinte ao da minha vitória sobre o Galeto, em junho. Vou dar a minha vida dentro daquele octógono para sair mais uma vez com a vitória”, disse o lutador, agora com um cartel de 20v, 3d.

Before shooting to fame in his native Brazil via the “TUF Brazil” reality show, Wagner “Galeto” Campos was a well know entity at Jiu-Jitsu championships in Paraná State for catching countless ill-prepared competitors by the ankle.

In a video produced especially for GRACIEMAG fans, Galeto explains the ins and outs of one of his favorites moves, the footlock from half-guard.

On newsstands across Brazil in January 2008, NOCAUTE magazine issue 60 featured a great interview with Wanderlei Silva, in which the UFC star issued praise for and a prophecy about his nemesis Vitor Belfort.

“He’s a great athlete . … His has his merit and I’m sure our fight will happen in the future,” said the fighter four years before the fight… well, almost happened.

The issue is full of gems, like images of the submissions by GSP over Matt Hughes, Fedor on Hong Man and Lyoto Machida on Sokoudjou. Our favorite excerpt, however, is one from “The tip of the iceberg,” on the fight between Wand and Chuck Liddell—two fighters who crossed paths amicably years later in Belo Horizonte.

Here’s the part in question:

“If the brilliant chronicler Nelson Rodrigues (1912-1980) were alive—he who never missed a Carlson Gracie fight in Rio—, he would likely have scribed an epic description of the second-to-last fight of the night in the UFC. Something like this:

The battle on Saturday was dramatic by nature and charged with soul, it’s stars dripping with readiness like drenched umbrellas. At the very first trade of blows, Wanderlei Silva showed just why he’s the pride of his nation: following one of the tremendous haymakers the fellow Chuck Liddell would dish out in the fight, the Brazilian took a step back to such in a lungful of air, rested his back against the fencing of the terrifying octagon, and underwent a transformation.

He was no longer a fighter, but a windmill, spinning his blades at dreadful speed and sweeping the American, the crowd, the Brazilian fans, the devil. Yes, Wanderlei lost, but it was a triumphal defeat. After all, our Silva remained on his feet, and the one who landed on his backside and crashed to the ground like a building in Downtown Rio wasn’t him, but his opponent, in the second round. Come and go: getting upended is the most harrowing experience a man can suffer in his brief time on Earth.”

Lançada nas bancas do Brasil em janeiro de 2008, a Revista NOCAUTE de número 60 trazia, entre outras pérolas, uma grande entrevista com Wanderlei Silva. Lá, o ídolo do UFC fazia um elogio e uma profecia sobre o arquirrival Vitor Belfort.

“Ele é um ótimo atleta. (….) Tem seus méritos e tenho certeza que no futuro nossa luta vai acontecer”, disse o paranaense, quatro anos antes da luta…, bem, quase ocorrer.

Tal edição da revista está recheada de pérolas, como belas imagens das finalizações de GSP em cima de Matt Hughes, a de Fedor em cima de Hong Man e a de Lyoto Machida em cima de Sokoudjou. Nosso trecho favorito, no entanto, é um trecho da reportagem “Casco no iceberg”, sobre a luta entre Wand e Chuck Liddell – dois lutadores que, aliás, têm se cruzado amistosamente em Belo Horizonte, anos depois.

Eis o trecho:

“Se o genial cronista Nelson Rodrigues (1912-1980) fosse vivo, ele que não perdia uma luta de Carlson Gracie no Rio, talvez fizesse uma épica descrição do penúltimo combate da noite no UFC. Algo assim:

A batalha de sábado foi de singular dramatismo e entupida de alma, com seus personagens pingando disposição como guarda-chuvas encharcados. Logo na primeira troca de murros, Wanderlei Silva mostrou por que é o orgulho da pátria: após um dos tremendos bofetões que o cidadão Chuck Liddell iria distribuir na luta, o brasileiro recuou para puxar uma lufada de ar, apoiou as costas nas grades do assustador octógno, e se transformou.

Não era mais um lutador, e sim um moinho de vento, movendo suas pás em velocidade assustadora e varrendo o americano, plateia, os fãs no Brasil, o diabo. Sim, Wanderlei perdeu, mas foi uma derrota triunfal. Afinal, nosso Silva terminou de pé, e quem caiu sentado e desabou como um prédio do centro do Rio não foi ele, mas o oponente, no segundo assalto. With over a decade’s experience stepping into rings and cages to face opponents from the most diverse corners of the world, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Milton Vieira has taken part in some of the biggest fighting shows on earth, including: Pride, Strikeforce, Shooto, Meca and Bitetti Combat. With more than his fair share of submission wins on his ledger, the BTT representative admits that making the first entrance into the octagon of his career next Saturday will be something special for him.

“Every athlete wants to compete at the best event there is, so making it to the UFC at this moment is really important to me. I’ve been working hard at Brazilian Top Team since 2003, when I joined the team, and I spared no sweat, blood or determination in getting to the UFC,” he said, as he gears up to face Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes in the first fight on the card for the UFC to take place Saturday night in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

While his original background is in the luta livre style of grappling, Milton has faith his Jiu-Jitsu will lead him to triumph at Mineirinho Stadium. But anyone thinking the Rio de Janeiro native will do everything in his power to win via submission would be wrong.

“I’m not planning to only show what I can do on the ground. I like punching, kicking, flying knees, elaborate moves. I like getting the crowd going. I always fight to win. It’s something important to me, to my family, but I fight to put on a show. I want to always put on fun fights,” he points out.

Aiming not just to be part of the UFC but to make it to the top of the featherweight ranks, Milton is making his debut on the big stage at 33, an age when, according to his coach Murilo Bustamante, is when MMA fighters are just reaching their prime.

“In my view MMA fighters reach their peak at around 35, 36 years of age. Anderson Silva and myself, for example, won titles when we were over 30,” said Bustamante. “Milton is a talent just awaiting opportunities, and he has a bright future ahead of him.”

The BTT is now celebrating a new partnership with the marketing firm Garra.

Há mais de uma década subindo em ringues e encarando adversários dos mais diversos cantos, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Miltinho Vieira já participou de competições como o badalado Pride, Strikeforce, Shooto, Meca e Bitetti Combat. Com um cartel recheado de finalizações, o lutador da BTT confessa que será especial subir ao octógono pela primeira vez, no próximo sábado.

“Todo atleta quer estar no melhor lugar e é muito importante para mim chegar ao UFC neste momento. Sempre trabalhei forte na Brazilian Top Team desde 2003, quando entrei para a equipe, e não poupei suor, sangue e vontade para estar no UFC”, disse ele, que deve fazer a primeira luta da noite em Belo Horizonte, contra Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes.

Atleta oriundo da luta-livre, Miltinho confia em seu Jiu-Jitsu para triunfar no Mineirinho. Mas se engana quem acredita que a estratégia do carioca do bairro de Vila Isabel será fazer de tudo para decidir a luta por finalização.

“Eu não pretendo mostrar somente minha qualidade no chão. Gosto de soco, chute, joelhada voadora, golpes mais plásticos. Tudo para alegrar o público. Luto pela vitória sempre. Ela é importante para mim, para minha família, para minha equipe, mas eu luto também para dar show. Quero sempre estar fazendo lutas bonitas”, destaca ele.

Com o objetivo de não apenas fazer parte do UFC, mas de estar entre os melhores do peso-pena, Miltinho debuta no evento aos 33 anos, idade em que, segundo o técnico Murilo Bustamante, os lutadores de MMA estão próximos do melhor momento.

“Ao meu ver o ápice técnico do lutador de MMA ocorre por volta dos 35, 36 anos. Anderson Silva e eu, por exemplo, conquistamos o título com mais de 30 anos”, disse Bustamante. “O Miltinho é um talento que só precisa de oportunidades e ainda tem um futuro brilhante pela frente”.

A equipe BTT celebrou uma nova parceria, na área de marketing, com a empresa Garra.

The UFC medical department has an announcement: there’s a Jiu-Jitsu world champion in the final of the TUF Brazil reality show. With the original finalist, Daniel Sarafian, having suffered a serious bicep injury while training, the opponent to face Cezar “Mutante” in the middleweight final is now Sérgio Moraes. The Alliance black belt had previously been knocked out by a Sarafian flying knee in the semifinals of the TUF Brazil reality show.

In the featherweight final, two fighters from the Brazilian state of Ceará, Godofredo Pepey and Rony Jason, will lock horns to see who gets their hands on a UFC contract.

On Sunday, during the final episode of TUF Brazil, Mutante earned the season’s best-knockout bonus of BRL 45,000 with a powerful kick to the head of Thiago Bodão, who himself was invited to fight on the card for UFC 147, coming up June 23 in the city of Belo Horizonte. The Vitor Belfort student also took home a spanking new pickup truck, for having been elected the best fighter of the reality show.

The prize for best submission went to Rony Jason for the armbar he used to put away Anistávio Gasparzinho, while best fight went to Thiago Bodão vs. Francisco Massaranduba.

O departamento médico do UFC informa: tem campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu na final do TUF Brasil. Com a contusão séria de Daniel Sarafian, que machucou o bíceps durante os treinamentos o oponente do peso médio Cezar Mutante será o rei da Cohab Serginho Moraes. O faixa-preta da Alliance havia sido nocauteado por Sarafian na semifinal do reality show “TUF Brasil”, com uma joelhada voadora.

Na final dos penas, os cearenses Godofredo Pepey e Rony Jason também vão disputar o contrato com o Ultimate.

No domingo, no último episódio do “TUF Brasil”, Mutante faturou o melhor nocaute do programa (45 mil reais) com um chutaço na cabeça de Thiago Bodão, que também acabou convidado a lutar no UFC 147, dia 23 agora em Belo Horizonte. O aluno de Vitor Belfort também ficou com uma picape zero quilômetro, após ser eleito o melhor lutador do reality.

O prêmio de melhor finalização foi para Rony Jason, pelo armlock aplicado em Anistávio Gasparzinho, enquanto a melhor luta foi Thiago Bodão vs Francisco Massaranduba. O prêmio também foi de 45 mil.

After the premiere episode that defined the 16 fighters who would star on the first ever season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show in Brazil, the program was back on Rede Globo channel last Sunday.

Besides introducing the sorting of “Team Vitor” and “Team Wanderlei”, the episode also featured the first end-of-episode fight—classifying one of the featherweights who would go through to the semifinal. After two five-minute rounds, Ceara State native Godofredo Pepey defeated Wagner Galeto via split decision, putting “Team Vitor” into the lead and place the choice of making next episode’s matchup in Belfort’s hands.

The show started with the fighters getting to know the house where they will be confined for the rest of the season. “The excitement of getting in here is second to none. Surely everyone was thinking the same thing: that this is all of our dream house,” said Rony Jason.

They split up into the five rooms in the house, which is fully equipped with a pool, tub, sauna, and a leisure area decked with punching bags, pool and foosball tables. From there, they moved on to the training center, the only location outside the house to which they have access while the show is being shot.

At the training center, they were welcomed by UFC president Dana White, who awaited them in the octagon to oversee the picking of “Team Wanderlei” and “Team Victor.” Just as in the American version, the UFC kingpin had a speech for the athletes, preparing them for the difficult weeks of training and confinement ahead. White also announced that the two UFC contracts aren’t the only bounty up for grabs; there is also the TUF bonuses for best knockout, best fight and best submission—worth 45,000 reais apiece.

“You made it this far, but the journey is just beginning. I guarantee that over the next six weeks you all will be tested mentally, physically and emotionally. A lot of you think you know what you’ve gotten into, but believe me when I say you don’t,” asserted White. “These will be the most difficult months of your lives. But if your dream is to be a professional fighter and one day make it to the level of the guys next to me [Vitor and Wanderlei], this is the opportunity of your lifetime.”

To begin picking sides, White flipped a coin with one side blue (Wanderlei) and the other green (Vitor). Wanderlei won the right to either pick the first fighter or match the first fight; He opted to call up his first “pupil”: the Rodrigo Minotauro-trained Rony Jason.

Jason was jubilant about having been picked first ahead of everyone else. Now Gasparzinho, who turned out to be the prankster of the house, was nonplussed about having been picked last. “You end up getting lost in the deck,” he remarked. When all was said and done, the teams took the following form:

The episode also showed the first training sessions under the orientation of the coaches and their respective trainers, who lend their expertise in honing specific abilities in the fighters. After getting to know the eight members of his team better, Vitor Belfort announced the inaugural matchup: Wagner Galeto (Wand) against Godofredy Pepey (Vitor).

Besides the picking of teams and the first fight of the season, the second episode of the program featured an illustrious visitor. José Aldo, the champion of the UFC featherweight division, didn’t just drop in on the athletes, he watched the battle and even gave his predictions after the fight. Another face familiar to fans was also there to mark a presence, the official cage girl of the UFC Brittney Palmer held up the cards between rounds. Not to mention Mario Yamasaki, who refereed the bout.

The fight started out with both fighters showing caution. Pepeu, who Wanderlei praised for his Jiu-Jitsu, did the expected: he tried to take his opponent to the ground. However, Galeto thwarted the Ceará natives first few takedown attempts, keeping the action on the feet—although Pepey did manage to pull his rival into his guard on the ground. In the standup action, Pepey was a bit standoffish, using more kicks and knees, while Galeto opted to use his fists. Less than a minute from the end of the round, one of Pepey’s strikes landed flush, crumpling Galeto down up against the cage, where the Ceará native followed up with strikes from top position. Galeto grabbed his opponent’s leg and tried for a submission, but Pepey managed to break free, in the tail end of the round pulling guard.

Galeto started into the second round swinging. Pepey tried attempted a kick. Trying to find his range, Pepey threatened with a knee and tried a punch, accidentally landing below the belt, causing a halt to be called to the bout. Pepey asked forgiveness of his opponent and was warned about a possible point deduction if he were to do it again. Back at center cage, Pepey was cautious until landing a kick to the thigh that set off a brief flurry of strikes. The standup action remained sporadic until Pepey again landed a low blow. Yamasaki chose not to penalize him, though, as the blow was not intentional. Pepey continued throwing kicks to his opponent’s thigh and head, while Galeto stuck to his fists until the end of the battle.

Once the two five-minute rounds were done, Pepey was declared champion, to the joy of Team Vitor and the disappointement of Wanderlei’s squad. The latter coach, who felt his athlete should have won, comforted his fighter. “I’m never going to give up,” declared a weepy Galeto, who broke into tears as he spoke about his daughter. Even in defeat, Wagner will not be leaving the house. He will continue to live there and train with the other compeitors, perhaps getting a second shot if one of the remaining fighters is rendered unable to fight.

“The importance of winning the fight is self-esteem, positivity; it’s great,” said a jubilant Pepey. The zeal of the celebrations of the athletes on Team Belfort bothered the coach, though, and he took it as a cue to teach the importance of respecting one’s opponent. “The more respect I have, the more authority I have,” stated Belfort. With the first win of the season in the bag, Team Vitor earned the right to match the next episode, this time at middleweight. With each episode, the winning team earns the right to match the next fight.

Após estreia que definiu os 16 lutadores escolhidos para estrelarem sua primeira versão brasileira, o reality show “The Ultimate Fighter Brasil” retornou à tela da Rede Globo no domingo com um episódio cheio de novidades.

Além de apresentar a divisão dos atletas entre “Time Vitor” e “Time Wanderlei”, o episódio exibiu a primeira batalha da edição – que coroou, por sua vez, o primeiro peso-pena classificado para a etapa semifinal. Após dois rounds de cinco minutos, o cearense Godofredo Pepey derrotou Wagner Galeto na decisão dividida dos jurados, abrindo um ponto de vantagem para o “Time Vitor” e habilitando a equipe de Belfort a definir a batalha do próximo episódio.

O episódio começou com os lutadores conhecendo a casa na qual ficarão confinados pelo resto da edição. “A emoção de ter entrado aqui foi inigualável. Com certeza o que passou pela cabeça de todo mundo é que essa é a casa dos sonhos de todos nós”, declarou Rony Jason.

Eles se dividiram entre os cinco quartos da casa, que conta também com piscina, banheira, sauna, e uma área de lazer com sacos de pancada e mesas de sinuca e totó. De lá, eles seguiram para o centro de treinamento, único local fora da casa ao qual tiveram acesso durante as gravações.

No centro de treinamento, eles foram recebidos pelo presidente do UFC, Dana White, que os esperava no octagon para acompanhar a divisão de equipes entre o “Time Wanderlei” e o “Time Vitor”. Como nas edições americanas, o chefão do UFC dirigiu algumas palavras aos atletas, preparando-os para as difíceis semanas de treinos e confinamento. White também anunciou que, além de dois contratos com o UFC, estão em jogo no TUF os bônus de Melhor Nocaute, Melhor Luta e Melhor Finalização – valendo R$ 45 mil, cada.

“Vocês chegaram aqui, mas a jornada começa agora. Garanto que nas próximas seis semanas vocês serão testados mental, física e emocionalmente. Muitos pensam que sabem onde se meteram, mas acreditem quando digo que não sabem”, declarou White. “Estes serão os meses mais difíceis da sua vida. Mas, se seu sonho é se tornar um lutador profissional e um dia chegar ao nível desses dois caras do meu lado (Vitor e Wanderlei), esta é a maior oportunidade da vida de vocês”.

Para iniciar a divisão de times, White jogou uma moeda com um lado azul (Wanderlei) e um verde (Vitor) para o alto. O vencedor foi Wanderlei, que, podendo optar entre escolher o primeiro lutador ou casar a primeira batalha, decidiu convocar seu primeiro “pupilo”: o cearense Rony Jason, treinado por Rodrigo Minotauro.

Jason comemorou o “gás a mais” de ter sido escolhido antes de todos. Já Gasparzinho, que se revelou o brincalhão da casa, lamentou ter sido o último. “Você acaba perdido no baralho”, comentou. No fim, os times ficaram divididos assim:

O episódio mostrou ainda os primeiros treinamentos dos lutadores sob a orientação de cada técnico e de seus respectivos treinadores, responsáveis por auxiliar os competidores em habilidades específicas. Após conhecer melhor os oito membros de seu time, Vitor Belfort anunciou a luta inaugural da edição: Wagner Galeto (Wand) contra Godofredy Pepey (Vitor).

Além da divisão de times e a primeira luta desta edição, o segundo episódio do programa também trouxe uma presença ilustre. José Aldo, campeão dos penas do UFC, não só visitou os atletas, como também acompanhou a batalha e ainda deu seus palpites após o embate. Outro rosto conhecido dos fãs, a octagon girl oficial do UFC Brittney Palmer desfilou com as famosas plaquinhas entre os rounds. O brasileiro Mario Yamasaki foi o árbitro da batalha.

A luta começou de maneira cautelosa. Pepey, elogiado por Wanderlei por seu Jiu-Jitsu, fez o esperado: tentou colocar o oponente no chão. As primeiras tentativas de queda do cearense, contudo, foram defendidas por Galeto, que manteve grande parte do primeiro round de pé – embora Pepey tenha puxado o rival para sua guarda no chão. Na troca de golpes, um pouco tímida, Pepey usava mais chutes e joelhadas, enquanto Galeto optou por socos. A menos de um minuto do fim do assalto, Galeto acusou ter sentido uma das investidas de Pepey, caindo e sendo pressionado contra a grade enquanto o cearense golpeava de cima. Galeto pegou a perna do rival e tentou uma finalização, mas Pepey conseguiu se desvencilhar e levantar, puxando-o, no finzinho, para sua guarda.

Galeto iniciou a ação no segundo round com socos. Pepey tentou um chute. Tentando encontrar a distância do adversário, Pepey ameaçou uma joelhada e tentou um soco, acertando acidentalmente um golpe baixo que levou à interrupção momentânea da luta. Pepey pediu desculpas ao adversário e foi avisado da possível dedução de pontos em caso de uma repetição. Retornaram cautelosos à luta, até que Pepey entrou com um chute na coxa e desencadeou uma breve troca de golpes. A trocação continuou esporádica até que Pepey, novamente, acertou um golpe baixo acidental. Yamasaki, contudo, optou por não puni-lo, uma vez que o ataque não foi intencional. Pepey continuou trabalhando os chutes na coxa e na cabeça, enquanto Galeto confiou nos punhos até o fim da batalha.

Ao fim dos dois rounds de cinco minutos, Pepey foi declarado campeão, para a alegria do Time Vitor e decepção da equipe de Wanderlei, que, acreditando que seu atleta deveria ter vencido, confortou o lutador. “Não vou desistir nunca”, declarou um choroso Galeto, emocionando-se ao falar de sua filha. Mesmo com a derrota, Wagner não sai da casa. Ele continua morando e treinando com os outros competidores, tendo ainda a chance de retornar ao páreo caso algum dos lutadores não tenha mais condições de competir.

“A importância de vencer a luta é a autoestima, a positividade, é tudo de bom”, comemorou Pepey. A comemoração entusiasmada dos companheiros de equipe do Time Belfort, contudo, incomodou o técnico, que ensinou a seus lutadores a importância do respeito ao adversário. “Quanto mais respeito eu tenho, mais autoridade tenho”, declarou Belfort. Com a primeira vitória da edição, o Time Vitor tem o direito de casar o embate do próximo episódio, desta vez entre os pesos médios. A cada episódio, a equipe vencedora tem o direito de montar as lutas.
