O caminhoneiro Jubervaldo Vieira passou 25 anos com um peso nos ombros.

Este mês, após esforços da equipe do “Esporte Espetacular”, da TV Globo, o fazendeiro morador de Paramirim enfim reencontrou o molecote que seu caminhão passou por cima, numa ré malsucedida após uma festinha de criança, em Vitória da Conquista, Bahia.

“Você não veio aqui me dar um soco, né?”, brincou, hoje refeito do susto, Jubervaldo, velho amigo da família Nogueira.

O acidente, segundo reportagens de GRACIEMAG, foi precisamente no dia 15 ou 16 de agosto de 1987. Era um fim de semana para ser festivo, mas…

“A criançada estava toda brincando na carroceria do caminhão estacionado. Quando o motor ligou, o caminhão deu uma descida na ladeira e achei que ele ia para a frente, mas rapidamente engatou a ré. Dei sorte de ter conseguido tirar a cabeça da frente e a roda passou por cima de mim”, disse-nos Minotauro certa vez. O então judoquinha passou quatro dias em estado de coma e mais um ano internado, num quadro desalentador.

Rodrigo lembrou da força do pai, do irmão, dos amigos da família e dos seus médicos no hospital.

“Foi pior que qualquer luta. Lembro como se fosse hoje. Eu indo para o hospital deitado no fundo do carro, no colo do meu pai, ele me dando a maior força que precisei na vida: ‘Você tem de ser forte, meu filho. Você ainda é novo, tem que superar isso… Ainda tem muita vida pela frente'”, comentou Minotauro, na reportagem do “Esporte Espetacular”.

As artes marciais entraram na vida de Minota para recuperar uma perna que mancava e dar mais força muscular ao jovem acidentado.

No reencontro do caminhoneiro com o lutador, Jubervaldo disse após o abraço: “Infelizmente aconteceu, mas foi uma vitória especial para você. Apesar que eu não tive culpa nenhuma por isso, como você sabe, mas foi uma vitória para vocês (família) e especialmente para você, que foi o acidentado”.

Truck driver Jubervaldo Vieira shouldered some serious emotional weight for 25 years.

This month, thanks to efforts of the Brazilian television show “Esporte Espetacular,” the farmer from the Northeastern Brazilian town of Paramirim finally caught up with the kid whose misfortune it was to end up under the wheels of his truck after an ill-fated children’s party in the town of Vitória da Conquista, in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

“You didn’t come here to rough me up, did you?” Viera told Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira,

The accident, as reported by GRACIEMAG, occurred in August, 1987. It was meant to have been a festive weekend, but it didn’t end up that way.

“The kids were all playing in the trailer of a parked truck. When the motor turned on, the truck started to roll down the hill and I thought it would go forward, but he quickly put it in reverse. I was lucky to get my head out of the way before the wheel rolled over me,” Minotauro once told GRACIEMAG.

Nogueira ended up spending four days in a coma and over a year in hospital, in a discouraging state. The then-judoka recalled the support he had from his father, brother, family friends and the doctors at the hospital.

“It was worse than any fight I could be in. I remember it like it’s today. I was on my father’s lap in the back of the car going to the hospital, him giving me the strength I needed to live ‘You have to be strong, my son. You’re still young; you have to overcome this… You still have so much life ahead of you,’” Nogueira said on the the television program.

Martial arts rejoined Mino’s life to help him overcome a limp he had and strengthened the injured youth’s body.

Following the accident, Vieira remained an old friend of the Nogueira family. He’s now recovered from the shock of that day’s events.

“What happened was unfortunate, but it was a special victory for you,” Vieira told Nogueira. “Though it wasn’t my fault what happened, as you know, it was a victory for your family and especially for you, the one injured in the accident.”

The leader of the Rio de Janeiro chapter of Alliance Jiu-Jitsu academy, Alexandre “Gigi” Paiva paid a recent visit to the team affiliate in Vitória da Conquista, Rodrigo Minotauro’s city of birth. There, the Jiu-Jitsu professor held a highly sought-after seminar and shared some of his technique.

In the video below Gigi demonstrates a simple and effective guard pass. Heed how important it is to defend your neck, as well as to grab the opponent’s wrist and belt. The most important part, however, is to keep the opponent’s wrist and hand trapped against the ground. “I can’t let my opponent get his wrist off the ground. This way I undermine any chances he might have for defense,” Paiva taught.

Isso mata qualquer chance de defesa dele”, ensinou Paiva na Bahia.
