A IBJJF realizou pela primeira vez uma edição do seu BJJ Pro em Atlanta, nos EUA. Como é de costume, o torneio atraiu grandes nomes do Jiu-Jitsu, em busca do pelo prêmio em dinheiro.

Os campeões do evento, realizado nesse sábado, dia 30, foram João Miyao, Otávio Sousa, Vitor Oliveira e Leonardo Nogueira. Cada vencedor das categorias faixa-preta adulto levou o belo cheque de 4 mil dólares. Os segundos colocados ficaram com 2 mil dólares.

The IBJJF held the first ever Atlanta Pro championship this Saturday, April 30.

João Miyao, Otavio Sousa, Vitor Oliveira and Leonardo Nogueira walked away with the biggest prizes in the adult black belt division.

In the featherweight, João Miyao beat Bruno Frazzatto for the title and the $4,000 prize.

The middleweight gold medal went to Otavio Sousa, after an armbar finish on Jaime Canuto.

Vitor Oliveira beat Murilo Santana for the heavyweight title while Leonardo Nogueira beat Mahamed Aly by one advantage for the ultra-heavy gld medal.

In the teams’ competition, results were:

The 2015 Santa Cruz BJJ Pro is going down next August 29 on the beautiful costal city in Northern California.

Big Jiu-Jitsu stars have already signed in to compete for some of the $30K bounty the IBJJF is offering to division winners.

Four-time world champion Leandro Lo is in; roosterweight runner up at the 2015 Worlds, João Miyao, is also in after dropping out of the 2015 ADCC roster.

Vitor Oliveira, Tanner Rice, Eliot Kelly, Osvaldo Moizinho, Arnaldo Maidana, Marcelo Mafra, Lucas Rocha are other names already signed in.

If you are thinking of competing, know that you have less than 24 hours to register.

The final deadline is midnight tonight.

Adult black belt athletes need 10pts on the IBJJF ranking to register.

All other divisions and age groups are free to register.

Em Long Beach, Califórnia, a categoria até 82kg no Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu de 2015 estava infestada de peixes graúdos famintos pelo primeiro ouro.

Casos dos faixas-pretas Murilo Santana, Vinicius Marinho, Victor Estima, Vitor Oliveira, Jaime Canuto, Marcos Yoshio, Marcelo Lapela, Tanner Rice, Victor Silvério, todos altamente treinados e com um Jiu-Jitsu assombroso perto dos meros mortais. E além deles, havia ainda o bicampeão mundial Otávio Sousa, ansioso pelo terceiro ouro.

Só que ninguém havia batido tanto na trave no peso médio como Claudio Calasans, que há dez anos é faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu e estava sempre pertinho do pote de ouro – havia sido vice mundial dos médios em 2010 (contra Marcelo Garcia), 2012 e 2013 (ambas contra Otávio Sousa). Além da valente medalha de bronze no absoluto, em 2009, ano daquela queda memorável em Roger Gracie.

Seja como for, a vontade que poderia ter virado frustração virou missão de vida, e com perseverança e disciplina, Juninho não desanimou, e enfim chegou lá este ano.

Antes de dar a cambalhota mais feliz de sua vida, no tatame azul da IBJJF, Calasans venceu Bruno Antunes (Honor Roll), no sábado. No domingo, 31 de maio, começou vencendo Vinicius Marinho por 7 a 4. Depois, raspou Victor Estima no fim para vencer por 4 a 2 e vibrar muito. Seria difícil roubar o sonho do exímio judoca àquela altura.

Foi o que o finalista Vitor Henrique Oliveira (GFTeam) perceberia. Após eliminar Jonathan Satava, Marcelo Lapela e Otávio Sousa em lutas taticamente perfeitas, o batalhador da GFTeam até foi para cima, mas tomou rapidamente uma raspagem de meia-guarda. A luta se desenrolou enrolada até o 6 a 4, quando Calasans levou a luta em pé e ainda abriu 8 a 4, numa punição.

Qual será a próxima meta de Calasans? Ele pode até demorar, mas vai chegar lá. Não duvidem.

O fim de semana foi recheado de competições da IBJJF pelo mundo, e você acompanhou tudo na cobertura cinco estrelas de GRACIEMAG. No sábado, 28 de março, em Chicago, três atletas da GFTeam fizeram a festa no absoluto do Chicago Open de Jiu-Jitsu.

Marcus Vinícius Moraes (ouro), Vinícius Marinho e Vitor Oliveira fecharam o aberto para equipe. Os faixas-pretas também venceram no peso: Vitor Oliveira ficou com o ouro no médio, e Marcus com o ouro no meio-pesado. Marinho foi vice no pesado.

Os irmãos João e Paulo Miyao também foram protagonistas em suas categorias. Rápido e bom de berimbolo, João ficou no topo do pódio no peso-pena. Já Paulo preferiu não ligar para a dieta, subiu de categoria e beliscou o ouro no leve.

Na faixa-marrom, o título absoluto foi do jovem Gabriel Arges (GB), com o colega de equipe Pedro Lucas em segundo.

The weekend of Jiu-Jitsu in Chicago wrapped up with the No-Gi divisions being played out.

In the teams competitions, Brasa finished first with 162pts, followed by Gracie Barra (84pts) and Valko BJJ (83pts).

The black belt division was the high point of the day with Rodrigo Reis winning the open class divisions.

The first day of the 2015 Chicago Spring International Open took place this Saturday with the most important gi divisions.

Day 2 is this Sunday, March 29, with the no-gi divisions and the purple belt and the white belt gi divisions.

In the black belt competition this Saturday, once again the Miyao Bros had the spotlight and confirmed their favoritism both in the feather and the lightweight divisions.

João Miyao defeated Wellington Megaton in the the featherweight and Paulo Miyao defeated Rafael Pereira in the lightweight.

In the male adult open class division, three athletes from GF Team reached the semifinals alongside Rodrigo Reis (Tanque JJ).

The final was a close out between Marcus Vinicius dos Santos (gold) and Vinicius Marinho (silver), with Vitor Oliveira finishing third.

In the female black belt open class division, Jena Bishop defeated Misty Shearer for the gold medal.

After reaching full capacity, the 2015 Chicago Spring Open goes down this weekend, with Gi and Nogi divisions.

Among more than 800 athletes, João and Paulo Miyao, Vitor Oliveira, Wellington Megaton, Oliver Geddes and others are the most recognizable names in the roster of competitors.

The IBJJF has released both the schedule and the brackets for the action this weekend.
