A faixa-marrom é o estágio final para o lutador ingressar na graduação de prestígio, a faixa-preta.

Por isso, quando um atleta começa a dominar todos os adversários na reta final para ganhar sua faixa mais escura, é normal que ele comece a chamar os olhares dos amantes do Jiu-Jitsu. No imaginário da torcida, fica aquela semente de dúvida: será que esse garoto (ou garota) vai fazer barulho na faixa-preta?

A temporada de 2013, eletrizante como de costume, mostrou diversos nomes que prometem acontecer no ano que vem. São pedras preciosas quase totalmente lapidadas, como os casos de Keenan Cornelius, os irmãos Miyao, Jackson Sousa, Felipe Preguiça, AJ Agazarm, James Puopolo, Ricardinho Rezende, Victor Paiva e tantos outros.

Currently residing in England, Fernando “Tererê” is back in Brazil for a spell teaching seminars, during which he stopped in at the Alliance branch in Leblon, headed by Alexandre Paiva.

“Great seminar by the world champion Fernando Tererê today at Alliance! Everyone who participated had a one-time chance to learn techniques from a great fighter and teacher. I’m so happy to have participated. Thanks, Tererê!” posted Gigi on Facebook.

Atualmente radicado na Inglaterra, Fernando Tererê está pelo Brasil, onde aproveita para dar seminários. A fera esteve na filial da Alliance no Leblon, comandada por Alexandre Paiva.

“Grande seminário hoje na Alliance do campeão mundial Fernando Tererê! Quem participou teve a oportunidade única de aprender técnicas de um grande lutador e professor. Estou muito feliz por ter participado. Obrigado Tererê!”, comentou Gigi no Facebook.

As GRACIEMAG.com reported last week, cyclist and world champion black belt Daniela Genovesi set off on the 720km Radmarathon race in Switzerland this week.

The race is part of the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) circuit. The Rio de Janeiro native won her division and took second overall, completing the race in 29:33 hours. Even having placed second, Dabi managed the top score in the UMCA ranking.

“My strategy was to do the first 600km in 24 hours or around that and then rest 30 or 40 minutes before taking off on the final 120km. But as my average speed was below what I usually do, I opted not to stop for a rest. That got me to the average I was expecting to do. I intended to complete the race in 28 hours but was satisfied with my time,” said Dani Genovesi, an Alliance black belt and mother of the team’s revelation Victor Paiva.

Now the Carioca’s next challenge will be the Race Across Oregon, a 832km course to take place on the 22nd in the United States.

Como divulgado pelo GRACIEMAG no fim da semana passado, a ciclista e faixa-preta campeã mundial Daniela Genovesi disputou neste fim de semana a Radmarathon, prova de 720km realizada na Suíça.

A prova foi válida para o Circuito da Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA). A carioca venceu em sua categoria e ficou em segundo lugar no geral, tendo completado a prova com o tempo de 29h33min. Mesmo terminando em segundo, Dani conseguiu a pontuação máxima para o ranking da UMCA.

“Minha estratégia seria tentar rodar os 600 km inicias em 24h, ou próximo disso, para descansar uns 30 a 40 minutos, e depois pedalar os 120 km finais. Mas como minha velocidade media estava abaixo do que giro normalmente, optei por não parar para descansar. Isto me permitiu ficar na média do que esperava fazer. Pretendia completar a prova em 28h, mas fiquei satisfeita com o meu tempo”, disse Dani Genovesi, faixa-preta da Alliance a mãe da revelação do time Victor Paiva.

Agora o próximo desafio da ciclista carioca será a Race Across Oregon, prova de 832 Km, que acontece dia 22, nos Estados Unidos.

Getting a Jiu-Jitsu black belt is just a part of a person’s journey. That’s what Daniela Genovesi (Alliance) proves with every passing day. Sporting a CV brimming with conquests in and out of the gi, like the world light featherweight title, the black belt forges ahead in pursuit of further career titles, pushing up the hill.

As keen GRACIEMAG.com readers will remember, the wife to Alexandre Paiva and mother to brown belt Victinho Genovesi is worth her salt on two wheels too. After winning a 24h bicycle race in Sabring, Florida, and a 24h race in Montello, Italy, the Rio de Janeiro native today gets pedaling at Radmarathon, a 715km course in Switzerland.

Then she’ll head to the United States to compete at the 832km Race Across Oregon. Both competitions will count for 60 points on the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) circuit ranking. They are the two races on the tour the athlete from Rio de Janeiro picked to take part in. The circuit is composed of 23 different races counting for different numbers of points.

“The two races have similar characteristics, with lots of mountains and uphill climbs. They’re tough, but I like this type of race; there’s always that extra challenge,” said the black belt cyclist who won the 2000 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship.

“My team and I are always studying the race courses so that we can train according to the particular characteristic of each race. I hope to win these two competitions and take first place on the ranking,” he adds.

Pegar a faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu é apenas um trecho na jornada de cada um. É o que prova a cada dia Daniela Genovesi (Alliance). Com um currículo cheio de conquistas com e sem o kimono, como o título mundial no peso pluma, a faixa-preta segue em busca de mais títulos para a sua carreira, ladeira acima.

Como o leitor atento do GRACIEMAG.com lembra, a esposa de Alexandre Paiva e mãe do faixa-marrom Victinho Genovesi é cascuda sobre duas rodas também. Depois de vencer as 24h de ciclismo de Sabring, na Flórida, e as 24h de Montello, na Itália, a profissional carioca começa a disputar hoje a Radmarathon, prova de 715km que acontece na Suíça.

Em seguida, ela embarca para os Estados Unidos, onde competirá, no dia 22, a Race Across Oregon, prova de 832km. Ambas as competições são válidas para o Circuito da Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) e contarão 60 pontos para o ranking do circuito. Essas são duas das seis provas do tour que a atleta carioca escolheu para pedalar. O circuito é composto por 23 provas e cada competição oferece pontuação diferente.

“As duas provas têm características semelhantes, com muitas montanhas e subidas. São bem puxadas, mas gosto desse estilo de prova, é sempre um desafio a mais”, disse a ciclista faixa-preta campeã do Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu de 2000.

“Minha equipe e eu sempre estudamos os percursos das provas para que os nossos treinamentos sejam em cima das características da competição. Espero vencer essas duas competições e terminar na primeira posição no ranking”, completa.

It was a sunny day but “Gigi’s” students put off going to the beach, to put on their gis. The dojo was packed for a special reason: Romero Jacaré, a red-and-black belt, founder of the team and mentor to Paiva and Fabio Gurgel, was there for a rare visit.

Jacaré explained the six-time world championship-winning team’s guidelines and delved deep into the subject of making it to back mount. The troop trained to exhaustion for approximately two hours. Romero hid nothing, as can be seen in the video below, and taught his great tricks and techniques – the same ones that panned out with champions like Rubens Cobrinha and Marcelo Garcia and so many others.

But there was still emotion in store on the day. Alexandre Paiva promoted his nephew Lucas to purple belt and his son Victor Paiva, who has been standing out at Alliance lately, to brown belt.

O dia era de sol, mas os alunos de Gigi deixaram a praia de lado e vestiram o kimono. O dojô lotado tinha um motivo todo especial, a presença de Romero Jacaré, faixa-coral e fundador da equipe da águia, formador de Paiva e Fabio Gurgel, por exemplo.

Jacaré explicou as principais diretrizes da equipe hexacampeã mundial e se aprofundou no tema pegada de costas. Por aproximadamente duas horas, foi o que o pessoal treinou exaustivamente. Romero não escondeu o jogo, como pode ser visto no vídeo abaixo, e mostrou seus grandes macetes, técnicas que encascoraram feras como Rubens Cobrinha e Marcelinho Garcia, entre tantos outros.

Mas o dia ainda reservou mais emoções. Alexandre Paiva graduou seu sobrinho Lucas à faixa-roxa e o filho Victor Paiva, que já vem se destacando pela Alliance, à faixa-marrom.

Who in your view will be the purple belt standouts at the 2011 Pan, starting this Thursday in Irvine, California?

Our first bet comes from the Rio de Janeiro branch of team Alliance.

It was there, at the academy located in the Leblon borough of the city, that GRACIEMAG.com heard a practitioner remark about one of the team’s purple belts:

“Have you ever heard Gigi praise a student without cause? And especially his son? So the kid must really be good.” Makes sense.

Yes, at great cost, Alexandre “Gigi” Paiva let escape words of praise. They were for his son, young Victor Genovesi Paiva, a lightweight signed up for the Pan. Will he confirm the favoritism? Quem para você serão os destaques da faixa-roxa no Pan 2011, que começa na próxima quinta-feira em Irvine, na Califa?

Nossa primeira aposta vem do Rio de Janeiro, da Alliance carioca.

Foi ali, na academia localizada no Leblon, que o GRACIEMAG.com escutou o comentário atento de praticante, sobre um faixa-roxa da academia.

“Você já viu o Gigi elogiar algum aluno de bobeira? E ainda mais o filho? Então o moleque deve estar bom mesmo”. Faz sentido.

Sim, a muito custo, Alexandre Paiva, o Gigi, soltou um elogio. Foram para seu filho, o jovem Victor Genovesi Paiva, peso leve inscrito no Pan. Será que ele confirma o favoritismo? Confira Victinho (de kimono branco) em ação na semifinal do Europeu 2011, onde foi campeão com sobras.

The crop of children of aces remains promising in Jiu-Jitsu. After Roger and Kayron Gracie, Mackenzie Dern, Raoni Barcellos and so many others, GRACIEMAG.com proudly presents reader Victor Genovesi Paiva, another champion with pedigree.

Victor, 19, is the son of Alliance master Alexandre “Gigi” Paiva. After snatching the Brazilian No-Gi Nationals last year, he now crowned himself purple belt champion of Europe, in Lisbon. In the final, the lightweight had his hands full beating England’s Daniel Agard (BJJ School), the winner of the last Abu Dhabi World Pro, where Daniel was a blue belt.
