It was a lively night in Seattle this Saturday, with the UFN 24 show.

In the evening’s main event, Rogério Minotouro and Phil Davis went at it for three rounds, before the scorecards handed the unanimous decision to Davis, who remains undefeated in the sport, now counting nine career wins.

In the other highly-anticipated fight on the night, Anthony Johnson defeated Dan Hardy by unanimous decision. Hardy has been seeing rough times ever since his title challenge against Georges Saint-Pierre, racking up three losses in a row.

A noite foi agitada em Seattle, neste sábado, com o UFN 24.

Na principal luta da noite, Rogério Minotouro e Phil Davis combateram por três rounds. Mas, no final, as papeletas anotaram decisão unânime para Davis, que segue invicto na modalidade, agora com nove triunfos.

Em outra luta aguardada, Anthony Johnson venceu Dan Hardy por decisão unânime. Hardy não tem sorte desde a disputa de título contra Georges St-Pierre, com três derrotas consecutivas.

Rogério Minotouro e Phil Davis estarão frente a frente neste sábado, em Seattle, onde acontece o UFN 24, evento transmitido ao vivo pelo Canal Combate. Vindo de uma vitória que não agradou o público, seguida de uma derrota, Rogério Minotouro teria uma luta de vida ou morte contra Tito Ortiz. No entanto, devido a uma contusão, o oponente acabou modificado.

“A luta contra Ortiz era algo que queria há muito tempo. Desde que entrei no UFC ele era o homem que eu queria encarar. Esperei muito tempo até que tudo se alinhasse e conseguíssemos nos encontrar no octógono. Fiquei um pouco decepcionado quando ele foi forçado a sair. Mas o objetivo principal aqui é enfrentar os melhores e ficar entre os melhores, então estarei me testando nesta competição contra Davis”, declara no site do UFC.

Sobre os últimos combates, Minoto espera ter absorvido lições.

“Nas derrotas é que aprendemos. Quedas são uma parte muito importante do jogo e percebi isso lutando no UFC em duas ocasiões diferentes. Jason Brilz me derrubou e trabalhou de dentro da minha guarda, Ryan Bader não, mas ele conseguiu quedas eficazes. Meu objetivo aqui é ditar o ritmo em pé, causando danos, e se a luta for para o chão, preciso ficar por cima. Enfim, o meu verdadeiro objetivo é nocauteá-lo e não deixar ir para decisão”, adianta.

Veterano, Rogério está atento a maior habilidade de Davis.

“O cara é novo e é bom. Ele foi campeão nacional de wrestling e quatro vezes All-American. Ele tem um histórico interessante (8-0) e tem uma vantagem na envergadura, então é um cara para se tomar cuidado, porque sua vontade faz dele perigoso. Mas, por outro lado, ele não tem muita experiência no MMA.”

Invicto no MMA, Phil Davis espera emplacar mais um triunfo, quem sabe até para ter uma chance pelo cinturão, hoje com Jon Jones.

“Estudei suas lutas e acho que ele definitivamente tem algumas áreas que poderei capitalizar. Espero que o wrestling seja uma daquelas áreas que ele não melhorou”, comenta Davis, que conhece muito bem o oponente:

“É um cara que eu tinha treinado antes. Não treinei muito com ele, apenas treinei, então fiquei meio confuso.Mas, ao mesmo tempo, é negócio, e não é como se ele fosse meu principal parceiro de treinos”, encerra.

Coming off a win that the crowd didn’t take kindly to followed by a loss, Rogério Minotouro would have had a do-or-die fight with Tito Ortiz on his hands. With his opponent pulling out injured, though, in came a replacement.

“The fight with Ortiz was something I’ve wanted for a long time. He’s the one I’ve wanted to face ever since I joined the UFC. I waited a long time until we could set it up in the octagon. I was a bit disappointed when he had to pull out, but my main objective here is to face the best and be among the best, so I’ll test myself in this competition against Davis,” he stated on the UFC website.

On his recent fights, Minotouro thinks he has learned some lessons.

“We learn from defeat. Takedowns are an important part of the game and I realized that on two different occasions in the UFC. Jason Brilz took me down and worked from inside my guard, Ryan Bader didn’t, but he managed efficient takedowns. My objective here is to dictate the pace standing, causing damage, and if the fight goes to the ground, I need to get on top. So my true objective is to knock him out and not let it go to a decision,” he forewarns.

A veteran, Rogério is wary of Davis’s chief skill.

“The guy is young and good. He’s a college wrestling champion and four-time All American. He has an interesting background (8-0) and a reach advantage, so he’s one to be careful with, because his desire makes him dangerous. But on the other hand, he doesn’t have much MMA experience.”

Undefeated in MMA, Phil Davis hopes to notch another win, maybe even get a shot at the belt, now held by Jon Jones.

“I studied his fights and I feel there are definitely some areas I can capitalize on. I hope his wrestling is one of those areas where he hasn’t improved.”

Coming off a loss to Demian Maia, Miranda returns to action on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 24 this Saturday. Across the octagon from him will be Aaron Simpson, who is coming off two negative results. That should bring even more excitement to the cage, as it’s do-or-die time for both contestants.

“We both need the win, and I’ll be super determined and we have all the makings of an excellent fight,” he foretells.

“I don’t want to take anything from Demian last fight, but getting called up at the last moment influenced my game, and I didn’t manage to get in shape with just two weeks of preparation. He has a different style of pulling guard and it’s hard to adapt with so little time. Perhaps If I’d had more time I couldn’t have fought more free-flowingly, following the strategy I had planned,” says Super Mario in analysis.

But for Saturday’s challenge the fighter is more than ready.

“I made the most of my time off and then got back to training, so I started getting ready real early. Wrestling was part of my preparations, but not exactly the focus. I want to win convincingly, trading blow, grappling or doing ground and pound. I know he’s an excellent wrestler, with heavy hands, but I think I’m better technically and physical conditioning could make the difference in this fight,” says the fighter in finishing, in a statement on the UFC website.

Vindo de derrota para Demian Maia, Mario Miranda volta a ação numa das lutas preliminares do UFC Fight Night 24, neste sábado, evento que conta com transmissão ao vivo do Canal Combate. Pela frente, o lutador tem Aaron Simpson, que vem de dois resultados negativos. Isso deve colocar ainda mais emoção dento do octagon, já que a vitória se torna fundamental para ambos.

“Nós dois precisamos desta vitória, a minha determinação será grande e nós temos tudo para fazer uma excelente luta”, adianta.

“Eu não quero tirar os méritos do Demian na última luta. Mas ser chamado em cima da hora influenciou meu jogo, e não consegui um condicionamento bom com duas semanas de preparação. Ele tem um estilo diferente de puxar pra guarda e é raro de se adaptar com um tempo tão curto. Talvez, se eu tivesse mais semanas, eu poderia lutar menos travado, seguindo a estratégia planejada”, analisa o Super Mário.

No entanto, para o desafio de sábado, o lutador está mais que pronto.

“Pude aproveitar meu tempo livre e depois voltar a treinar, então comecei a minha preparação bem cedo. Wrestling foi uma parte da minha preparação, mas não exatamente o foco. Eu quero ganhar a luta de forma convincente, trocando socos, fazendo chão ou com ground and pound. Sei que ele é um excelente wrestler, com a mão pesada, mas eu acho que sou melhor tecnicamente e o condicionamento físico pode ser o diferencial para este combate”, encerra a fera, em declaração ao site do UFC.

This Saturday the 26th, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rogério Minotouro enters the world’s most well-known octagon to face off with Phil Davis, a major revelation in MMA’s light heavyweight division, at UFC Fight Night 24.

At 34 years of age, Brazil’s Rogério Minotouro has already made a name for himself in the MMA scene. Besides his stellar performances at events like the now-defunct Pride FC organization and even the UFC, Minotouro has an achievement on his CV not many in the sport can brag of: a bronze medal for boxing at the 2007 Pan-American Games. Despite his winning record, Rogério wants more. Coming off a loss to the USA’s Ryan Bader (UFC 119), the Brazilian knows he needs to win to recover his standing in the sport. The fighter knows, however, that he’ll have his work cut out for him in doing so.

“The guy’s young, he’s good. He was a national wrestling champion and four-time All American. He doesn’t really have all that much experience in MMA, but he has an interesting record (8w-0l) and is really tall. So he’s someone you have to be especially careful about, because he wants it, and that makes him a dangerous opponent, especially with UFC rules, where takedowns count a lot,” explains Minotouro in analyzing American revelation Phil Davis, 26, who comes into the bout with a pristine record.

Neste sábado, dia 26, o baiano Rogério Minotouro entra no octógono mais famoso do mundo para encarar o americano Phil Davis, grande revelação do MMA na categoria meio-pesado, em luta válida pelo UFC Fight Night 24.

Aos 34 anos, o baiano Rogério Minotouro já se consolidou como um grande nome brasileiro no mundo das lutas. Além de ter trilhado um caminho de grandes resultados em eventos como o extinto Pride e o próprio UFC, Minotouro tem no currículo um feito para poucos do esporte: uma medalha de bronze de boxe nos Jogos Pan-Americanos Rio 2007. Rogério Minotouro will no longer be facing Tito Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 24 come March 26 in Seattle.

Ortiz got hurt and took some stitches, according to UFC president Dana White. Thus Minotauro’s twin brother will now be facing the undefeated Phil Davis (eight fights).

Mr. Wonderful, as he is known, has first-rate wrestling skills, having stood out in Division 1 wrestling in the United States, whereas Tito was coming off five poor results in a row (four losses and a draw).

Rogério Minotouro não encara mais Tito Ortiz no UFC Fight Night 24, no dia 26 de março, em Seattle.

Ortiz se machucou e sofreu alguns pontos, segundo informou Dana White, presidente do Ultimate. Sendo assim, o irmão gêmeo de Rodrigo Minotauro encara agora o invicto Phil Davis (oito lutas).

Mr. Wonderful, como é conhecido, tem grande habilidade no wrestling, tendo se destacado na primeira divisão americana. Tito, por sua vez, vinha de cinco resultados ruins (quatro derrotas e um empate).
