Chris Lytle is the UFC-bonus record holder. A fireman, aspiring politician, fighter, Lytle announced that Sunday’s event may be the last of a career that counts 31 wins, 18 losses and five draws. A savvy Jiu-Jitsu stylist, he has 22 submissions to brag of, counting the one over Dan Hardy at UFC on Versus 5.

In all, Lytle has bagged ten UFC bonuses. For his win over Hardy this Sunday, he earned both best submission and fight of the night bonuses, for a grand total of 130,000 dollars.

Knockout of the night went to Donald Cerrone at the expense of Charles do Bronx, worth 65,000 dollars.

Chris Lytle é o recordista em bonificações do UFC. Bombeiro, pretendente a político, o lutador avisara que o evento deste domingo poderia se o último da carreira, que conta com 31 vitórias, 18 derrotas e cinco empates. Bom de Jiu-Jitsu, são 22 finalizações, contando a contra Dan Hardy, no UFC on Versus 5.

Ao todo, Lytle conquistou dez bonificações do Ultimate. Neste domingo, no triunfo contra Hardy, ficou com o bônus de melhor finalização e melhor luta, tendo acumulado mais 130 mil dólares.

O melhor nocaute foi para Donald Cerrone, contra Charles do Bronx, que valeu 65 mil na conta do Cowboy.

UFC on Versus 5 featured plenty of ground action not just in the four matches ending in submissions but practically throughout the entire card. Frenetic bouts, even without any true marquee names – it was one of the best installments from the promotion this season.

In the evening’s main event, Chris Lytle showed just why he’s been the beneficiary of fight of the night bonuses five times. Boxing defined the fight throughout. Lytle had the advantage, but Dan Hardy had his moments as well. In the third round Hardy tried to mount a comeback, but Lytle responded with a snug guillotine, coaxing the Englishman to tap out.

The only thing missing from the showdown between Ben Henderson and Jim Miller was a fireworks show. While Ben landed solid takedowns and put in a fine display of standup, Miller presented real danger with his submission attempts, even pressuring his opponent’s knee. But Henderson slipped out of the holds and brought on an aggressive barrage of ground and pound. The final round saw him achieve back mount, nearly making it to full mount. A well-deserved win for the Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, who put a stop on Miller’s seven-fight win streak.

Donald Cerrone showed just why he was favored to win going into his fight with Charles do Bronx. Cerrone shrugged off takedown attempts and was effective in the standup department. One of Cerrone’s strikes found its mark and sent Charles to the ground, where he tried pulling guard but was met with a barrage of strikes that forced referee Mario Yamasaki to step in and end the action.

In the undercard, Brazil’s Ronny Markes, making his promotional debut, took a well deserved win with a solid display of positional Jiu-Jitsu. Ronny held his own with Karlos Vemola in the standup action and made good use of takedowns throughout the three rounds. On the ground, it was all the Brazilian, who controlled his opponent through positional superiority, earning him the unanimous decision win after three rounds.

Jimmy Hettes and Alex Caceres had an eye-pleasing bout, featuring lively ground-fighting action. After plenty of back-and-forth action, Hettes ended the spectacle with a rear-naked choke in the second round. Cole Miller and TJ O’Brien had an exciting second round. Miller got the better of the action, though, when he sung a snug guillotine in the second. Ed Herman came up with a submission win of his own, taking out Kyle Noke with a heel hook while still in the first round.

O UFC on Versus 5 contou com muita luta no chão, não apenas nas quatro finalizações da noite, mas em praticamente todos os desafios. Confrontos frenéticos, mesmo sem um card estelar, foi uma das melhores edições da temporada.

Na principal luta da noite, Chris Lytle mostrou por que já recebera cinco vezes o prêmio de melhor luta. Quase até o fim prevaleceu o boxe. Lytle levava vantagem, mas Dan Hardy também conseguiu bons lances. No terceiro assalto, Hardy tentou reagir, mas Lytle respondeu com uma justa guilhotina e botou o inglês para bater.

No combate entre Ben Henderson e Jim Miller só faltou sair faísca. Enquanto Ben conseguia aplicar boas quedas e ia bem na trocação, Jim era perigoso nas tentativas de finalização, chegou a esticar o joelho do oponente. Mas Henderson escapou dos golpes e foi mais agressivo no ground and pound. No assalto final, pegou as costas, quase finalizou e montou. Vitória merecida para o faixa-marrom de Jiu-Jitsu, que interrompeu uma série de sete triunfos de Miller.

Donald Cerrone mostrou por que era considerado favorito na luta contra Charles do Bronx. O lutador evitou as quedas e foi mais efetivo na trocação. Charles sentiu o golpe e puxou para a guarda, mas o Cowboy percebeu o momento e continuou a socar. Não restou opção ao árbitro Mario Yamasaki a não ser interromper.

No card preliminar, vitória do estreante Ronny Markes e muito Jiu-Jitsu. Ronny foi bem na trocação contra karlos Vemola e usou bem as quedas nas três parciais. Ao chão, chegou à posições de superioridade e controlou o oponente. Após os três rounds, decisão unânime a favor do brasileiro.

Jimy Hettes e Alex Caceres fizeram um combate agradável de se ver, muito movimentado e com técnica no solo. Depois de muitas reviravoltas, se deu bem Hettes, com um mata-leão na segunda parcial. Cole Miller e TJ O’Brien fizeram um segundo round emocionante. Melhor para Miller, que definiu com uma justa guilhotina, no segundo assalto. Ed Herman também finalizou. A vítima foi Kyle Noke, ainda na primeira parcial, com uma chave de calcanhar.

There’s plenty of excitement on tap for this Sunday at UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. A one-time welterweight title challenger now coming off back to back losses, Dan Hardy will have another hard task on his hands as he faces Chris Lytle.

“I want to go in there and do what I do, and the rest will take care of itself. I think in my last fight I sort of set myself back because I worried too much. Coming off the title fight (with Saint-Pierre), I went into the fight with Condit thinking it would be the first step on my way back to the title. And after I got caught I was sort of like, ‘Wait a minute, what happened there? That’s wasn’t supposed to happen.’ I put a bit of pressure on myself in the fight with Johnson and I think I set myself back,” said Hardy, who says he’s better prepared for his fight with Lytle tonight at UFC on Versus.

Brazil’s Charles do Bronx will have a tough nut to crack in Donald Cerrone but is brimming with confidence.

“He’s taller than me, with could make it easier for him to shoot in at my legs for the takedown. I don’t think he’s that good standing, though, so we’ll see; I have to feel how the fight goes when the time comes. He’s got good grappling, with 12 submissions in 15 wins. It’ll be a tough fight and it will be crazy in there. He wants to beat me, I want to beat him, so the fight will go off.”

Former WEC champion Ben Henderson will be looking for his second UFC win, against a Jim Miller who hasn’t lost in his last seven fights, but he feels his savvy Jiu-Jitsu skills may serve him well.

“You can expect to see the same aggressiveness and focus, that’s for sure,” said Henderson. “Something like a “tarantula submission” or something, if Jim Miller gives me room… If he gives me his neck I’ll grab it. If he’s blinded by a camera flash from the crowd and leaves his arm out, I’ll take it home with me.”

Making his promotional debut, Ronny Markes faces off with Karlos Vemola. The gentle art black belt has a win over Paulo Filho on his record and wants to start off his UFC tenure on the right foot.

“I know Vemola has octagon experience and likes to bring on the pressure to finish the fight in the first round. I’ll be on my toes from the first second of the fight on, looking to catch him off guard with counter-attacks. He has a wrestling background, has good ground and pound, but I’m well versed in Jiu-Jitsu and can capitalize on any opening he leaves when the fight hits the ground.”

O domingo é dia de UFC on Versus 5, em Milwaukee, Estados Unidos, e a noite promete bons combates. Ex-desafiante ao cinturão de meio-médios, vindo de duas derrotas, Dan Hardy vai estar em ação contra Chris Lytle.

“Eu quero chegar lá e fazer o que faço e todo o resto vai cuidar de si mesmo. Eu acho que na última luta eu meio que me prejudiquei por me preocupar demais. Vindo da luta pelo título (com St-Pierre), fui para a luta com o Condit pensando que era o meu primeiro passo no caminho de volta ao título. E, depois que eu fui pego, estava tipo ‘espere um minuto, o que aconteceu lá? Isso não deveria acontecer’. Coloquei um pouco de pressão sobre mim para a luta com Johnson e acho que me prejudicou”, comenta Hardy, que se diz melhor para o desafio contra Lytle, no UFC on Versus.

O Brasileiro Charles do Bronx vai ter vida dura contra Donald Cerrone, mas está bem confiante.

“Ele é mais alto, pode facilitar entrar nas pernas para colocar para baixo. Também não acho ele tão bom na trocação, então vamos ver, tenho que sentir a luta na hora. Ele tem o chão bom, com 12 finalizações em 15 vitórias. É uma luta dura e vai ser louco lá dentro. Ele quer me vencer, eu quero vencê-lo, então vai pegar fogo.”

Ex-campeão do WEC, Bem Henderson busca o segundo triunfo no UFC. O lutador tem pela frente Jim Miller, numa série de sete lutas sem perder, mas acredita no seu forte Jiu-Jitsu para ir bem.

“Você pode esperar a mesma agressividade e o mesmo foco, isso é certo”, disse Henderson. “Algo como a “finalização tarântula” ou qualquer coisa assim, se Jim Miller me der espaço… Se ele me der seu pescoço eu vou pegar. Se ele ficar cego por um flash da câmera no meio da multidão e sobrar um braço, levarei seu braço para a casa”.

Estreante na noite, Ronny Markes enfrenta Karlos Vemola. O faixa-preta na arte suave vem de vitórias sobre feras como Paulo Filho e quer entrar com o pé direito no Ultimate.

“Eu sei que o Vemola tem experiência no octógono, e ele gosta de pressionar desde o início para terminar a luta no primeiro round. Vou estar alerta desde o primeiro segundo da luta, procurando surpreendê-lo nos contra-ataques . Ele é um especialista em wrestling, tem um bom ground and pound, mas sou um lutador versado em Jiu-Jitsu e posso pegar qualquer coisa que ele me ofereça quando a luta chegar no solo.”

After the result from his June 27 fight against Nik Lentz was overturned, Charles do Bronx took no rest. On August 14 the brown belt will be right back in the mix at UFC on Versus 5, facing Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who is riding a four-fight win streak. Interviewed by GRACIEMAG.com, Bronx doesn’t let the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission that annulled his seventh triumph off the hook.

You admit you threw an illegal knee but the fight wasn’t stopped and you tapped out Nik Lentz. On the occasion you took the “fight of the night” prize. What are your thoughts about them changing the result to a no contest?

Shoot, what happened is that they gave me the win. The right thing to do was to have the ref stop the fight, at most penalize me a point, and let the fight start again. But no, the fight continued. I know it’s not the UFC’s fault, but it is the Athletic Commission’s; I think they were too hard on me. Jon Jones threw an illegal elbow, the judge stopped the fight, the athlete didn’t return to fight but they gave Jon Jones the win. Jon Jones threw an illegal knee on Shogun, everybody saw it, but they gave the win to Jon Jones. So I don’t understand why they went an overturned the result on my fight. But that’s alright, I’m happy with what’s going on in my life, on to the next one. It’s all in the past and now I’m focused on Cerrone.

Once again you’re going to fight in the UFC with almost no breaks between bouts. Is that good or bad?

I’m fine, focused. When I joined the UFC I said I wanted to fight the best, and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Cerrone is one of the top guys in the division and that’s precisely what I want. I’m ready and happy for every fight I get, especially against the toughest guys in the division. I’m going to work double time in preparing for this next fight compared to the last one and I’m glad for the opportunity.

What are your thoughts on Cerrone?

He’s taller than me, which could make it easier to shoot in on his legs for takedowns. I also don’t think he’s that good standing, so we’ll see, I have to feel how the fight goes when I’m in there. I’m still training here in Brazil with the kids at Bronx’s Gold Team. Between the 25th and 30th I’ll head to the United States to train with Macaco. I’ll be ready once again.

Depois de ter o resultado da luta no dia 27 de junho anulado, contra Nik Lentz, Charles do Bronx não descansa. No dia 14 de agosto, no UFC on Versus 5, o faixa-marrom de Jiu-Jitsu já tem novo compromisso. Ele encara Donald Cerrone, o Cowboy, que vem numa série de quatro vitórias. Num bate-papo com o GRACIEMAG.com, o lutador comenta o desafio e não alivia a decisão da Comissão Atlética da Pennsylvania, que anulou seu último triunfo.

Você admite que aplicou uma joelhada ilegal, mas a luta continuou e você finalizou Nik Lentz. Na ocasião, recebeu até o prêmio pela melhor luta da noite. O que achou de depois terem mudado o resultado para no contest?

Pô, o que aconteceu é que eles me deram a vitória. O certo era o juiz parar a luta, no máximo tirar um ponto meu, e voltar o combate. Mas não, a luta continuou. Sei que não é culpa do UFC e sim da Comissão Atlética, mas acho que pegaram pesado comigo. O Jon Jones deu uma cotovelada ilegal, o juiz parou e o atleta não voltou, mas deram a vitória para o Jon Jones. O Jon Jones deu uma joelhada ilegal no Shogun, todo mundo viu, mas deram a vitória para o Jon Jones. Então não entendi essa anulação justamente na minha luta. Mas tudo bem, estou feliz com o que vem acontecendo na minha vida e vamos para a próxima. Isso já passou e agora estou focado no Cerrone.

Mais uma vez, você luta no UFC quase sem descanso entre um combate e outro. Isso é bom ou ruim?

Estou bem, focado. Quando entrei no Ultimate, disse que queria lutar contra os melhores, e é exatamente isso o que está acontecendo. O Cerrone é um dos tops da categoria e é exatamente isso o que eu quero. Estou pronto e feliz por cada luta que vem, principalmente contra os caras fortes da categoria. Vou me preparar para essa luta em dobro em relação à última e estou feliz por mais essa oportunidade.

O que acha do Cerrone?
