One day may be enough to change a UFC considerably. Having confirmed an injury to the eye of Costa Philipou, and the withdrawal of the same event occurring in Jaragua do Sul on May 18, the question was: Who will step up to face Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza just two weeks from the event?

The solution came from within the event itself. Chris Camozzi, who was to face Rafael Natal, will instead challenge the UFC-debuting Brazilian. GRACIEMAG.com confirmed with Camozzi coach Diego Moraes, and he analyzed the current scenario of his pupil.

“Rafael Natal is a great athlete, hard on the ground, but the Jacare is a monster in Jiu-Jitsu, one of the best of all time,” Moraes said. “I unfortunately could not stay long with Camozzi, but I’ll be there with him. And strategy is the same: Work hard on the feet, but if the fight goes to the ground, I’m sure Chris will be ready.”

Jacare (17-3, 1 N.C.) has 10 finishes in 17 victories. He arrives in the UFC after the end of Strikeforce, where in his last appearance he finished Ed Herman in the first round.

Camozzi (19-5) has four straight wins in the UFC, including ones over Luis Banha, Nick Catone, and in his last fight, beating Nick Ring at UFC 158. He is a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu.

In Camozzi’s place, Natal will now face João Zeferino.

Mais um nome de peso foi adicionado ao card da próxima edição do UFC no Brasil, a ser realizado na cidade de Jaraguá do Sul, em Santa Catarina, que terá na luta principal o embate entre Vitor Belfort e Luke Rockhold na divisão de médios. Cezar Mutante, pupilo de Belfort, se une a outros seis brasileiros já confirmados no evento.

Mutante (5v, 2d) fará sua segunda luta pelo Ultimate, na divisão até 84kg, a mesma do amigo Vitor. Na primeira, venceu Serginho Moraes na decisão unânime, no UFC 147, em Belo Horizonte. Pela frente, o campeão do “TUF Brasil” terá o americano CB Dollaway (13v, 4d) que vem de vitória sobre Daniel Sarafian no UFC on FX 7, realizado em janeiro deste ano, quando superou o brasileiro na decisão dividida dos jurados.

Diferentemente do que foi publicado em outros veículos e repercutido aqui, Roger Gracie não está no card do UFC em Santa Catarina. De acordo com o repórter Marcelo Dunlop, ele luta no UFC da semana do Dia da Independência nos EUA, dia 6 de julho em Las Vegas.

O estreito caminho rumo ao topo do peso leve no UFC segue se estreitando, para o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Rafael dos Anjos. O aluno de Roberto Gordo obteve esta semana a confirmação que vai enfrentar no UFC de Santa Catarina, no dia 18 de maio, Evan Dunham, que vem de vitória em cima de Gleison Tibau no UFC 156, em fevereiro.

Os dois atletas vêm num embalo interessante. O americano da equipe Xtreme Couture venceu a pedreira Tibau na decisão dividida, mas antes fez a luta da noite contra TJ Grant, no UFC 152, em setembro. Ele havia sido escalado para encarar Edson Barboza no ano passado, mas se lesionou. Em janeiro de 2012, havia nocauteado Nik Lentz.

Já Rafael dos Anjos não sabe o que é derrota desde 2011, quando não conseguiu impressionar os jurados e perdeu para Tibau. Depois disso, ajustou o tempo das posições, e finalizou o iraniano Kamal Shalorus, venceu o nigeriano Anthony Njokuani na decisão e passeou contra o experiente ruivo canadense Mark Bocek, também via decisão.

With a good chance of being scheduled for November, ADCC 2013 will no longer be in Sao Paulo, like the organizers of the event created by Tahnoon biz Zayed from Abu Dhabi, had planned. And the reason for it is connected to UFC on FX 7.

On Jan. 17, when the octagon for UFC event already began to be built at Ibirapuera, the city of Sao Paulo was questioned by the State Public Prosecutor about the amount spent on the event – approximately $2.5 million, according to the prosecutor. After the investigation, the city of Sao Paulo needed to review all of its investments for sporting events, including ADCC 2013.

After that, another gigantic metropolis gained ground in the race to host the tournament created in 1998: Shanghai, China.

“We had a complete sponsorship package from Sao Paulo City Mayor’s office approved and confirmed,” said the ADCC Committee on Sunday in letter first published by Kid Peligro. “However, recently, we were informed that the agreement has been revoked. Therefore, we are forced to change venues. Brazil has the strongest tradition in our sport and due to this very unfortunate turn of events we have to seek a different location for the ADCC 2013 event. As of now we are deciding whether to hold ADCC World Championships in either Abu Dhabi or China. We are very excited with the possibilities that each place offers and are looking forward to another great edition of our event.”

While the exact dates for ADCC 2013 are not confirmed, the trials in Brazil are from April 19 to 21. The venue is not 100 percent confirmed, but organizers targeting to hold the event at Maracanãzinho.

Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold will square off at UFC on FX 8 at Arena Jaraguá on May 18, according to reports on Thursday.

As GRACIEMAG.com reported, the bout was to take place in Brazil later this year in April, but reports have pushed the date to May and the fighters will headline the card.

The UFC was last in Brazil on Jan. 19 when Belfort fought Michael Bisping in the main event at UFC on FX 7. Belfort was victorious in his home country, knocking out his British opponent in the second round of their affair.

The UFC has made a conscious effort to hose more shows in Brazil, as well as extend the reality show, TUF Brazil, into a second season, this time with UFC heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum as coaches.

UFC on FX 8 will be the second consecutive show on the FX network with Belfort featured in the headliner.

The life of an MMA fighter certainly is no walk in the park. There’s travel, training, diet and what have you. Rousimar Palhares’ case is no different. But besides all that and the grueling flight to Australia, where he will be fighting Hector Lombard at UFC on FX 6, the middleweight also known as “Paul Harris” had further hardships to endure: his luggage, with all his training gear, was lost.

“Toquinho” said the bags contained his gear, supplements and other items essential to his preparations for his Dec. 15 fight. But despite the setback, the athlete didn’t let it get him down.

“A missing bag isn’t going to diminish my desire to achieve my goals. When you do what you love, it doesn’t matter if you lose something, so long as you seize the moment. That’s what’s most important to me. Losing a bag isn’t going to keep me from winning the fight,” Palhares said, speaking at a video shot in Australia.

Toquinho will square off with Lombard in main card action this Friday, and he guarantees he’ll be entering the octagon more prepared than ever.

“They’re going to see the true Rousimar Palhares this UFC. I’m as ready as I’ve ever been, and I want this win more than ever before. I’m doing what I love doing most in life, and I trained a lot to put on a great show for the crowd,” he said in a conversation with the crew from Brazil’s Combate television channel.

A vida de um lutador de MMA não é mesmo fácil. Viagens, treinos, dieta e tudo mais que se possa imaginar. No caso de Rousimar Toquinho não é diferente. Porém, apesar da viagem desgastante para a Austrália, onde luta no UFC on FX 6 contra Hector Lombard, Toquinho teve mais um contratempo: suas malas foram extraviadas com todo seu equipamento de treino.

Toquinho disse que na mala haviam seus equipamentos, suplementos, e outras coisas essenciais na preparação para sua luta neste dia 15 de dezembro. Mas o atleta, apesar do revés, não desanimou.

“Não é a mala que vai tirar a minha vontade de conquistar o que eu quero. Quando você faz o que ama, não importa se você perde algo, desde que você aproveite o momento. Isso é o mais importante para mim. Perder a mala não vai me impedir de sair vencedor da luta” disse Toquinho, que mandou sua mensagem por um vídeo gravado na Austrália.

Toquinho enfrenta Hector Lombar pelo card principal do evento desta sexta, e prometeu entrar no octagon mais preparado do que nunca.

“Eles verão o verdadeiro Rousimar Palhares neste UFC. Estou pronto como nunca estive, e com uma vontade de ganhar maior do que nunca. Faço a coisa que mais amo na vida, e treinei muito para fazer um grande espetáculo para o público”, disse o atleta, em papo com o pessoal do canal Combate.

O UFC on FX 5 desta sexta feira, em Minneapolis. EUA, tem transmissão ao vivo pelo Canal Combate, ligue agora sua televisão e acompanhe. Na luta principal, o gigante Antonio Pezão pode demolir ou servir de “escada” para o bom havaiano Travis Browne, promessa do peso pesado.

1. Antonio Pezão vs Travis Browne

Não é a luta principal à toa. O mais famoso Pezão está em busca da recuperação após ser nocauteado em sua estreia pelo evento, pelo poderoso Cain Velasquez, mas encara um Travis com 13 vitórias consecutivas, além de um empate. O havaiano “Hapa” vai tentar mostrar seu boxe e muay thai. O caminho do brasileiro faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu é derrubar e bater no chão.

2. Jussier Formiga vs John Dodson

Em sua estreia pela organização, o brasileiro Jussier Formiga enfrenta o duro wrestler John Dodson.  O americano vem de duas vitórias na organização, e adora derrubar. Quem vencer se credencia à disputa do cinto dos moscas com o campeão Demetrius  Johnson.

3. Josh Neer vs Justin Edwards

O americano Josh Neer vinha num embalo de seis vitórias consecutivas, mas parou na pedreira Mike Pyle. Com o que tem de melhor, a trocacão, Neer vai com tudo para cima de Justin Edwards, que tenta se reabilitar no evento após derrota para John Maguire. Edwards é bom de quedas, vamos ver o que acontece.

4. Carlo Prater vs Marcus Levesseur

O brasileiro Carlos Prater  está vindo de derrota para TJ Grant, e com a experiência que tem pode reverter seu quadro no UFC se vencer Levesseur. Carlos é bom de finalização, já pegou até Carlos Condit em priscas eras, e vai tentar manter a luta no chão.

5. Diego Nunes vs Bart Palaszewski

O brazuca Diego Nunes vem de derrota para o alemão Dennis Siver, e tenta melhorar o seu cartel no UFC que é de 2v e 2d. O polonês  Bart Palaszewki é faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu mas procura sempre a trocacão franca em seus combates e não será diferente nesse. Diego vai tentar bater em cima e impor seu jogo de quedas para trabalhar a finalização no solo.
