With a good chance of being scheduled for November, ADCC 2013 will no longer be in Sao Paulo, like the organizers of the event created by Tahnoon biz Zayed from Abu Dhabi, had planned. And the reason for it is connected to UFC on FX 7.

On Jan. 17, when the octagon for UFC event already began to be built at Ibirapuera, the city of Sao Paulo was questioned by the State Public Prosecutor about the amount spent on the event – approximately $2.5 million, according to the prosecutor. After the investigation, the city of Sao Paulo needed to review all of its investments for sporting events, including ADCC 2013.

After that, another gigantic metropolis gained ground in the race to host the tournament created in 1998: Shanghai, China.

“We had a complete sponsorship package from Sao Paulo City Mayor’s office approved and confirmed,” said the ADCC Committee on Sunday in letter first published by Kid Peligro. “However, recently, we were informed that the agreement has been revoked. Therefore, we are forced to change venues. Brazil has the strongest tradition in our sport and due to this very unfortunate turn of events we have to seek a different location for the ADCC 2013 event. As of now we are deciding whether to hold ADCC World Championships in either Abu Dhabi or China. We are very excited with the possibilities that each place offers and are looking forward to another great edition of our event.”

While the exact dates for ADCC 2013 are not confirmed, the trials in Brazil are from April 19 to 21. The venue is not 100 percent confirmed, but organizers targeting to hold the event at Maracanãzinho.

Após anúncio oficial do UFC, que dizia que Thiago Tavares foi pego no exame antidoping, o atleta catarinense veio a público explicar o ocorrido, por meio de nota enviada à imprensa.

O lutador da divisão dos leves acusou em seu exame traços de Drostanolona, e foi sentenciado pelo Ultimate a 9 meses de suspensão, devendo ser testado novamente após o período para de poder retornar aos octógonos.

Em resposta ao anúncio do UFC, o lutador enviou nota dizendo que está surpreso por ter testado positivo no exame, e que jamais seria capaz de utilizar qualquer suplemento fora dos padrões permitidos pela organização.

“Sempre prezei muito por minha carreira em todos esses anos e jamais seria capaz de usar algo que não fosse permitido”, disse o atleta na nota.

“Estou surpreso com a suspeita de doping anunciado pelo UFC. Em 13 lutas, fui submetido por sete vezes a exames antidoping e nunca fui acusado de fazer uso de qualquer substância ilegal, pois sempre prezei muito por minha carreira em todos esses anos e jamais seria capaz de usar algo que não fosse permitido.

“Minha equipe médica está trabalhando na investigação de todos os suplementos ou medicamentos usados dentro e fora do Brasil nos últimos meses que possam ter dado esse falso positivo no exame. As análises estão sendo feitas em laboratórios especializados, por pesquisadores da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, bem como todos os procedimentos médicos estão sendo investigados.

“Tenho vindo de uma sucessão de fatos que querem abalar minha carreira, como lutas adiadas, lesões, etc, e que me impediram de lutar o ano passado. Mas estou confiante de que minha carreira não será abalada por mais esse obstáculo. Já pedimos a contraprova para o UFC, e aguardamos os resultados das análises para que as providências sejam tomadas”

After the UFC officially announced that Thiago Tavares had been flagged for using banned substances, the Brazilian has denied taking any wrongdoing.

In response to the UFC’s announcement, the fighter sent out a message stating that he was surprised by the positive test and that he would never use any supplement that did not meet the organization’s guidelines.

“I’ve always prized my career throughout all these years and would never use something not permitted by the rules,” Tavares said through a press release.

The lightweight’s urinalysis came back showing traces of drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, which slapped him with a nine-month suspension and mandatory further testing before he can be cleared to return to the octagon.

“I’m surprised about the UFC’s announcement that I’m suspected of doping. In 13 fights, I’ve undergone testing on seven occasions and was never flagged for any illegal substances …

“My medical team is investigating all the supplements and medications I’ve used in and out of Brazil over the last few months to determine what caused me to turn in a false positive sample. The analysis is being done in specialized laboratories by researchers from Santa Catarina Federal University, and all medical procedures I’ve undergone are being inspected as well.

“I’ve gone through a series of things that threatened to derail my career, like postponed fights, injuries, etc., and that kept me from fighting last year. But I’m confident that my career will not be thrown off track by yet another obstacle. We’ve already asked the UFC to test a B sample, and we’re waiting on the results to see what measures we will be taking.”

Prior to the announcement of Tavares’ positive test, rumors circulated that it was Vitor Belfort who was flagged for banned substances. Those rumors were denied by UFC president Dana White, but, as reported on GRACIEMAG.com, the UFC announced that Belfort was approved for a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to treat hypogonadism.

Rumores de que um atleta teria sido pego no exame antidoping feito após o UFC São Paulo atingiram o mundo do MMA. Muito nomes foram especulados pela mídia, um deles o de Vitor Belfort, que fez a luta principal do evento contra Michael Bisping, no dia 19 de janeiro, no Ginásio do Ibirapuera.

O UFC divulgou uma nota, dia 6 de fevereiro, dizendo que Vitor Belfort fez uso testosterona antes da luta contra Bisping, mas Belfort tem permissão para tal.

Vitor Belfort sofre hipogonadismo, que compromete a produção natural de hormônios no organismo. Para tratar-se e se manter no mesmo nível dos outros atletas, Belfort faz uso de testosterona sintética para equalizar seus níveis do hormônio aos de um homem adulto comum. A comissão médica de Nevada liberou o atleta a fazer uso de medicação.

“A Zuffa esclarece que os testes do lutador Vitor Belfort deram negativo e não indicaram a presença de nenhuma substância proibida para aumento da melhora de performance. Belfort está em terapia de reposição de testosterona (TRT) sob supervisão de um médico do Estado de Nevada por ter sido diagnosticado com hipogonadismo. O objetivo da TRT é permitir que o paciente consiga atingir níveis de testosterona normais para um homem adulto”, disse o UFC, em nota.

A reposição hormonal controlada não é novidade no UFC. Outros atletas conhecidos do Ultimate, como Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir, Rampage Jackson e Forest Griffin também usam testosterona por não produzir hormônios suficientes.

Na mesma nota, o UFC informou que o atleta Thiago Tavares havia testado positivo para uso de Drostanolona.

A Zuffa, empresa que detém os direitos do UFC, envio nesta quarta-feira, dia 06 de fevereiro, informações relacionadas aos exames antidoping aplicados no UFC São Paulo, realizado no Ginásio do Ibirapuera no dia 19 de janeiro.

Todos os 22 lutadores presentes no card do UFC São Paulo foram testados no evento e 21 deles passaram nos testes. Já o resultado do lutador brasileiro Thiago Tavares detectou a presença de Drostanolona, um esteroide anabólico considerado substância banida. Tavares, que foi nocauteado pelo russo Khabib Nurmagomedov ainda no primeiro assalto,  já foi notificado da punição de nove meses, contabilizados desde a data da realização do evento. Após o término do período, Thiago terá que realizar um novo teste para checar se está apto para voltar a competir.

UFC lightweight Thiago Tavares tested positive for a banned substance following his UFC on FX 7 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, and is suspended nine months dating back to the night of the fight, UFC officials said on Wednesday.

Tavares tested positive for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, and will have to test again at the end of his suspension before returning to competition.

“The UFC is committed to transparency and zero tolerance for doping,” said UFC president Dana White.

All 22 fighters were tested at at the Jan. 19 event, and only Tavares came back with a positive sample.

In the week leading up to Wednesday’s news, rumors circulated that main event participant Vitor Belfort was the fighter that tested positive. White shot down those rumors, adamant that it was not Belfort. However, it was noted that Belfort has been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) under the supervision of a physician in Nevada following a diagnosis for hypogonadism.

An extra octagon argument ensued after UFC on FX 7 last weekend.

Following a controversial no-contest in the fight between Iuri Alcantara and Pedro Nobre, their managers, Wallid Ismail and Murilo Bustamante expressed their grievances.

Former training partners from their days at Carlson Gracie’s Rio de Janeiro academy in the 1990s, Ismail and Bustamante have conflicting opinions about the fight.

First came Ismail, who one day after the event appeared on the “Mundo da Luta” show on Brazilian radio station Beat 98 FM and condemned Pedro’s attitude, using a statement Dana White made over Twitter as his weapon.

“I watched the fight three times—there’s nothing left to say,” Ismail said. “Pedro’s a good kid, and I wish him the best in his career, but he shot himself in the foot. Even Dana White said Pedro should win an award for his performance.

“I hope Murilo takes a proper look at it. I believe that today, after watching the replay, he isn’t defending his athlete the way he was yesterday. You know the guy ducked out. I was ashamed for Pedro.”

As for Bustamante, he sent an open letter stating that his fighter did not intend to fake injury to end the fight, as well as explaining the reason why he rushed into the octagon after a pause had been called to the fight.

“The referee (Dan Miragliotta) asked me to ask Pedro (in Portuguese) if he was alright, and all he did was express pain on his face,” Bustamante said. “After that, the doctor and the referee exchanged looks and they decided to call an end to the fight.”

Bustamante also addressed the statements Wallid had made, classifying them as “extremely unethical and unprofessional,” throwing in the word “coward.” He also added that his athletes at Brazilian Top Team don’t participate in Jungle Fight, Ismail’s MMA promotion, to not be subject to the promoter’s “moral principles.”

After the letter from the BTT head honcho was released, Ismail had his publicist send out a release of his own where he makes it clear he has no problem with Bustamante, but disagrees with his opinion regarding Jungle Fight.

“As for his comment that great athletes don’t fight for the Jungle Fight promotion, that is totally uncalled for,” Ismail said. “Anyone who follows MMA knows that a good portion of the great fighters, many having found success in the international scene, have been through or got their start at Jungle Fight.”

The following are the complete statements released by Ismail and Bustamante.

Open letter from Murilo Bustamante:

First of all, it’s important to make clear that I write this letter to make sure everyone knows that at no moment did my athlete Pedro Nobre request that the fight with Yuri Marajó be cut short last Saturday at UFC São Paulo. The fight was interrupted by order of the doctor and referee.

After pausing the fight, the ref asked me if I could serve as interpreter for my fighter and asked me to enter the octagon. I did just that, and when I approached Pedro I could see him lying prone and signaling that the back of his neck hurt with his hand.

The referee asked me to ask Pedro what he was feeling, and all he did was express pain on his face. The ref insisted, and I asked him again, but Pedro said his head hurt a lot. After he made this statement, the doctor looked at the ref and said the fight was over. At that moment, I was still unsure whether the fight would be restarted, but the doctor made it clear to everybody that that was not going to happen and that the fight was done. Right after that, Pedro was removed from the octagon.

At no moment did I or Pedro or anyone from the BTT ask that the fight be called off or complain of illegal blows from Yuri. At no point did we request Yuri be penalized or the fight be called off, much less that the result be made to favor the BTT athlete.

Nobody asked us whether Pedro could return to the fight. We just obeyed the referee, doctor and event’s decision. Our only concern was with our athlete’s health.

The ref and doctor are highly regarded and experienced professionals. They certainly acted according to their professional standpoint. The ref felt illegal blows had landed and paused the fight to call in the doctor, who saw the athlete on the ground complaining of sharp pain in his head, so he opted to call an end to the fight.

BTT’s position coincides with the doctor’s and the referee’s. We too felt that Pedro received blows to the back of the head that were not clear in the replay because of the position of the cameras.

We want to make it clear that we are certain that Yuri is not to blame for any of this and that it is no more than an accident. Yuri is an excellent fighter and exemplary athlete. After the fight, he carried himself with great class, unlike his agent.

On the interview with Wallid Ismail: it was extremely unethical and unprofessional—and why not say it, cowardly—to offensively criticize a young athlete just starting out in his career and from Brazil. He hadn’t the slightest consideration or respect for him. Not to mention that he did not respect the decision made by the UFC referee and doctor.

Pedro, like the other athletes on BTT and Brazil’s other big MMA teams, refuses to compete at Jungle Fight so as not to be affected by the moral principles of the event’s owner—Wallid—, who never was and never will be a reference in our sport for the simple fact that he doesn’t know the meaning of the words ethics and morals.

Thus, it is clear why the guy is outraged with BTT athletes.

Pedro Nobre has proved his courage and valiance in the ring, going through numerous difficult moments in his professional fights. Taking knockdowns in some, most of which he can back from to win. In the fight with Iuri Marajó he went through a sticky situation when he was caught in an americana keylock and grittily got out and continued to fight. A lot of others would have given up.

He’s an athlete who everyone who likes MMA knows very well. On Dec. 9 he won two fights in the Bitetti Combat GP, a serious event promoted by a great master in Amaury Bitetti, where in both battles he went through rough moments, as his opponents were really good, but he was crowned champion with a great KO against a really tough opponent in the final.

That is why I cannot sit back and keep quiet when hearing or reading so many unfair rants about such a high-level athlete and standup person as Pedro Nobre. I will never accept such erroneous judgments or offenses against him or any other Brazilian Top Team athlete.

Wallid’s response:

At no moment did I disrespect the UFC referee’s and/or doctor’s decision. What happened was a disagreement, something quite common in the fight world or any other sport. Dana White, the UFC president, himself shared the same view as me and even paid Iuri his win bonus. Furthermore, Joe Silva, because he did not agree with the decision, tried to change the result to being a win for Iuri.

As for his comment that great athletes do not fight for the Jungle Fight promotion, that is totally uncalled for. Anyone who follows MMA knows that a good portion of the great fighters, many having found success in the international scene, have been through or got their start at Jungle Fight. Around 6 fighters who have been through the UFC have fought at Jungle. It’s no wonder that we have the biggest MMA event in Latin America.

Thank God I feel find about my ethics and morals. Those are two qualities that helped me to have great friends, within the realm of fighting and out of it, and make it to where I am today as a reference in the sport. Loyalty is the main pillar in ethics and morals, and no doubt, the loyalty I had for my master Carlson Gracie is a reference throughout the realm of fighting to this day. That is why I can lay my head down on my pillow every night and sleep. I receive praise daily from fans and MMA fighters regarding my greater goal of popularizing the sport, providing opportunities to young fighters, and for my overall character. That is very gratifying to me, and no naysaying will shake my resolve.

As for Pedro Nobre, I think the kid has a great future ahead of him, is talented and deserves a second chance in the UFC. I just didn’t agree with his attitude at that moment, and I continue not to agree with it. But I’m not going to judge him on an isolated incident. I’m certain he will mature a lot for what he’s been through and will come back all the stronger.

Uma discussão fora do octógono se instaurou após o UFC São Paulo, realizado no dia 19 de janeiro, no Ginásio do Ibirapuera. Após uma polêmica decisão dos árbitros em declarar a luta entre Iuri Marajó e Pedro Nobre como “no contest”, após Marajó castigar Pedro com golpes pelas costas, seus empresários Wallid Ismail e Murilo Bustamante, respectivamente, trocaram farpas pela imprensa.

Ex-companheiros de treinos na academia Carlson Gracie no Rio, na década de 1990, Wallid e Murilo divergiram em opiniões sobre a luta e cada um falou o que podia, da maneira que queria.

O primeiro foi Wallid que, em entrevista ao programa “Mundo da Luta”, na rádio Beat 98FM, condenou um dia após a luta a atitude de Pedro, usando uma declaração de Dana White no Twitter como arma.

“Eu vi a luta três vezes, não tem o que falar. Pedrinho é um bom garoto, e quero que ele continue bem na carreira, mas foi um tiro no pé. Até o Dana White falou que o Pedro deveria ganhar um prêmio pela atuação”, disse o presidente do Jungle Fight.

“Espero que o Murilo veja isso direito. Acredito que hoje, vendo o replay, ele não esteja defendendo o atleta como estava ontem. Você sabe quando o cara esta de ‘migué’. Fiquei com vergonha do Pedro”, disparou Wallid.

Murilo, por sua vez, divulgou ontem uma carta aberta à imprensa onde afirma que seu atleta não teve intenção de simular uma contusão maior para encerrar a luta, além de explicar o motivo pelo qual ele, Bustamante, entrou no octagon após a paralisação do embate.

“O árbitro (o americano Dan Miragliotta) e pediu para eu perguntar ao Pedro (em português) se ele estava bem, e ele apenas fez uma expressão de dor. Depois disso, o médico olhou para o árbitro e eles decidiram encerrar a luta”, justificou Murilo.

Bustamante falou sobre as declarações de Wallid, classificando como “extrema falta de ética e profissionalismo”, além de nominá-lo como “covarde”. Ele acrescentou que seus atletas da BTT não participam do Jungle Fight, evento de Wallid, por não compactuar com os “princípios morais” do organizador.

Após esta carta do chefe da BTT, Wallid divulgou, por meio de sua assessoria de imprensa, um comunicado, onde deixa claro não ter problemas com Bustamante, mas discorda sobre a opinião dele sobre o Jungle Fight.

“Sobre o que ele fala dos grandes atletas não lutarem no Jungle Fight, isso não tem o menor cabimento. Quem acompanha a modalidade sabe que boa parte dos grandes lutadores, muitos de sucesso internacional, passaram e começaram a gravar seus nomes no MMA a partir do Jungle Fight”, afirmou Wallid.

Carta aberta de Murilo Bustamante:

“Em primeiro lugar é importante deixar claro que o propósito dessa nota é esclarecer de uma vez por todas que em nenhum momento o meu atleta Pedro Nobre pediu para encerrar sua luta contra Yuri Marajó, no UFC São Paulo, do último sábado. A luta só foi interrompida por uma ordem do médico e do juiz do combate.

“Após paralisar a luta, o juiz me perguntou se eu poderia servir de intérprete para o meu lutador e me pediu para entrar no octógono. Assim o fiz e, quando me aproximei do Pedro, vi que ele estava deitado de bruços e reclamando de dor com a mão na nuca.

“O juiz me pediu para perguntar para o Pedro o que ele estava sentindo e ele apenas fez uma expressão de dor. O juiz insistiu, eu perguntei novamente e o Pedrinho disse que estava com muita dor na cabeça. Após essa declaração o médico olhou para o juiz e disse que a luta estava interrompida. Nesse momento, eu ainda fiquei em dúvida se a luta seria reiniciada, mas o médico deixou claro para todos que isso não iria acontecer e que a luta estava terminada. Logo em seguida, o Pedro foi retirado do octógono.

“Em nenhum momento nem eu, nem o Pedrinho, nem ninguém da BTT pediu para que a luta fosse interrompida ou reclamamos de golpes ilegais do Yuri. Em nenhum momento cobramos uma punição para o Yuri ou pedimos para a luta ser cancelada, muito menos que o resultado fosse a favor do atleta da BTT.

“Ninguém nos perguntou se o Pedrinho poderia voltar a lutar. Acatamos a decisão do juiz, do médico e do evento. Nossa única preocupação era quanto à saúde do nosso atleta.

“O juiz e o médico são profissionais gabaritados e experientes. Certamente agiram de forma acertada dentro da visão profissional de cada um deles. O juiz achou que havia tido golpes ilegais e paralisou a luta chamando o médico, que por sua vez viu o atleta no chão reclamando de fortes dores na cabeça e optou por cancelar o combate.

“A posição da BTT compactua com a do médico e do juiz. Também achamos que o Pedro recebeu golpes na nuca que não ficaram claros no replay por causa do posicionamento das câmeras.

“Deixamos claro que temos certeza que o Yuri não teve culpa nenhuma nesse caso e que tudo não passou de um acidente. O Yuri é um excelente lutador e um atleta exemplar. Portou-se ao final da luta com muita classe, diferente do seu agente.

“Sobre a entrevista de Wallid Ismail: foi de extrema falta de ética e profissionalismo, porque não dizer um covarde, ao criticar ofensivamente um jovem atleta, em princípio de carreira no UFC e ainda por cima brasileiro. Não teve a menor consideração e respeito por ele. Além de não respeitar as decisões tomadas pelo árbitro e o médico do UFC.

“O Pedro, assim como todos os outros atletas da BTT e das grandes equipes de MMA do Brasil, se recusa a participar do Jungle Fight por não compactuar com os mesmos princípios morais do proprietário do evento – o Wallid -, que nunca foi e nunca será uma referência em nosso esporte, pelo simples fato que ele não saber o significado das palavras ética e moral.

“Por isso, fica clara a revolta deste cidadão contra os atletas da BTT.

“O Pedro Nobre que já deu provas de sua coragem e valentia dentro dos ringues, passando por diversos momentos difíceis em suas lutas profissionais. Tomando knock downs em algumas delas, as quais na maioria das vezes conseguiu vencer posteriormente. Na própria luta contra o Iuri Marajó ele passou por um momento complicado quando foi pego numa americana e, com muita raça, conseguiu sair e seguir na batalha. Muitos ali teriam desistido.

“É um atleta que todos que gostam de MMA o conhecem muito bem. Que no último dia 9 de dezembro venceu duas lutas no GP do Bitetti Combat, um evento sério, gerido por um grande mestre que é o Amaury Bitetti, onde nos dois confrontos passou por momentos difíceis, pois seus adversários eram muito bons, mas que se sagrou campeão com um ótimo KO contra um atleta duríssimo na final.

“Por isso é que não poderia ficar calado após ouvir e ler nos últimos dias tantas injustiças sendo ditas sobre um atleta de alto nível e uma pessoa íntegra como é o Pedro Nobre. Jamais irei aceitar qualquer colocação equivocada ou ofensas a ele ou qualquer outro atleta da Brazilian Top Team.”

“Em primeiro lugar, gostaria de deixar bem claro que não tenho nada contra o Murilo Bustamante, apesar de não concordar com a forma que ele gerencia seus negócios.

“Em momento nenhum houve desrespeito da minha parte à decisão do árbitro e/ou do médico do UFC.  O que houve foi discordância, algo completamente comum no mundo da luta e em qualquer outro esporte. Inclusive, o próprio Dana White, presidente do UFC, também teve a mesma visão que a minha e pagou o bônus de vitória para o Iuri. Além disso, o Joe Silva por também não concordar com a decisão, tentou alterar o resultado para vitória do Iuri.

“Sobre a questão em que ele fala dos grandes atletas não lutarem no Jungle Fight, isso não faz o menor cabimento. Quem acompanha a modalidade sabe que boa parte dos grandes lutadores, muitos de sucesso internacional, passaram e começaram a gravar seus nomes no esporte no Jungle Fight. Em torno de 60 lutadores que já passaram pelo UFC já lutaram no Jungle. Não é a toa que temos o maior evento de MMA da América Latina.

“Graças a Deus continuo muito tranquilo em relação a minha ética e moral. Essas são duas das qualidades que me fazem ter grandes amigos, tanto dentro quanto fora do meio da luta, e ter conseguido chegar onde estou hoje, me tornando uma referência no esporte. Por essa razão eu consigo colocar todos os dias a minha cabeça sobre o travesseiro e dormir sossegado. Recebo elogios diariamente de fãs e lutadores de MMA sobre o meu grande objetivo de popularizar a modalidade, de dar oportunidades para jovens lutadores e pelo meu caráter em geral. Isso é muito gratificante para mim e não vai ser um comentário negativo que irá me abalar.

“Sobre o Pedro Nobre, acho que é um garoto com um futuro imenso pela frente, muito talentoso e que merece sim uma segunda chance no UFC. Apenas não concordei com sua atitude naquele momento e continuo não concordando. Mas não vou julgá-lo por um fato isolado. Tenho certeza que ele vai amadurecer bastante com o ocorrido e irá voltar bem mais forte’’.

O que dizer dessa sétima edição do UFC on FX? Duros nocautes, belas finalizações e decisões polêmicas. Um clássico evento de MMA repleto de emoções forte. O UFC São Paulo, realizado dia 19 de janeiro, no Ginásio do Ibirapuera, teve na luta principal o nocaute, premiado como o melhor da noite, de Vitor Belfort sobre Michael Bisping, com um chute alto arrasador aplicado no segundo round.

Tivemos também a vitória de CB Dollaway sobre Daniel Sarafian na decisão dividida dos jurados, nesse que foi o melhor embate do evento e a apertada guilhotina de Gabriel Napão no pescoço de Ben Rothwell.

Outro destaque fica para a finalização da noite, executada pelo estreante Ildemar Marajó, que aplicou uma chave de joelho reta no compatriota Wagner Caldeirão, no segundo assalto.

Um show de MMA foi exibido na sétima edição do UFC on FX, o UFC São Paulo. O evento, ocorrido no Ginásio do Ibirapuera no dia 19 de janeiro, teve na luta principal o nocaute de Vitor Belfort sobre Michael Bisping, eleito o melhor da noite. Além disso, tivemos a derrota polêmica de Daniel Sarafian para CB Dollaway na decisão dividida dos jurados, que foi eleita a melhor batalha do evento e da justa guilhotina de Gabriel Napão sobre Ben Rothwell, que não levou a finalização da noite, pois está foi para a chave de joelho de Ildemar Marajó sobre Wagner Caldeirão.

Na luta principal do evento, Vitor Belfort fez a luta mais esperada desse UFC contra Michael Bisping. O tempero do combate foram as palavras disparadas entre os atletas antes do evento. Conflitos na coletiva e na pesagem também apimentaram a luta.

O combate começou com muito estudo entre os lutadores. Depois de um início freado, Vitor começou a investir contra Bisping, que tentava responder sempre na mesma moeda. Mesmo disparando os socos e chutes mais pesados, Vitor perdia na contagem parcial por ter recebido mais golpes contundentes do britânico. A reviravolta veio no fim do round, quando Belfort conseguiu encaixar uma sequência potente, deixando Bisping em maus lençóis no fim do primeiro assalto. Ao voltar para o segundo round, Bisping já tinha um sangramento no nariz, e Belfort parecia inteiro para mais um round de duros golpes, mas não precisou de tanto: com um chute de esquerda na cabeça do inglês, Vitor levou seu adversário a um knockdown, ainda no primeiro minuto do assalto, precisando apenas ir pra cima do desafeto quase abatido, para fechar a luta. Vitória por nocaute técnico e festa no Ibirapuera. Após a luta, Vitor deixou o recado para Dana White.

“Dana, tira o Sonnen e me da a revanche contra Jon Jones. Tira esse palhaço e me dá a revanche”, pediu Belfort.

Antes disso, no coevento principal, tivemos a estreia de Daniel Sarafian no Ultimate contra CB Dollaway. Daniel, que deixou de debutar no UFC por conta de uma lesão antes de seu embate contra Cezar Mutante, no UFC 147, encarou o experiente Dollaway nessa que foi uma das melhores lutas da noite. A diferença na estatura não assustou Sarafian, que partiu pra dentro encurtando a distancia e encaixando fortes golpes contra o americano. CB tentava responder, mas Daniel foi mais eficiente e levou o primeiro assalto. Daí pra frente as opiniões se dividem.

Sarafian parecia melhor na segunda etapa, mas Dollaway conseguiu acertar Daniel, que sentiu e quase foi nocauteado no fim do assalto. Chegando ao terceiro e último round, o mais parelho, CB saiu na frente após Sarafian acusar um golpe e ser levado para o solo. Após, Sarafian reverteu o jogo e ficou por cima, primeiro com golpe, e depois ganhando as costas e tentando um mata-leão. Ao fim do combate, os jurados deram, de forma dividida a vitória para CB Dollaway, e o público presente vaiou intensamente.

Sobre o polêmico resultado, o manda-chuva no Ultimate, Dana White, comentou no seu twitter, dizendo que a decisão foi correta por conta dos jurados.

“O resultado não foi louco. Daniel cansou e quase foi superado no fim do segundo assalto. Perdeu maior parte do terceiro round, mesmo depois de irar o jogo”, cravou o presidente do UFC.

Além desta polêmica, outra decisão contestada por parte dos fãs foi a vitória de Godofredo Pepey sobre Milton Vieira. A luta foi parelha durante os três assaltos levando a ser decidida pelos jurados de forma dividida. O treinador de Miltinho Vieira, Murilo Bustamente, criticou em sua conta no twitter.

“O que raios os jurados viram ná luta do Miltinho? Ele venceu claramente o primeiro e terceiro rounds. Isso é uma piada”, criticou Bustamante.

Fora de polêmica, Gabriel Napão venceu de forma clássica a sua luta contra Ben Rothwell na segunda luta do card principal. Napão e Rothwell, como bons pesos pesados, trocaram pesados golpes no primeiro assalto, e chegaram no segundo com menos gás. Sem se abalar, Napão viu uma brecha e clinchou Rothwell, encaixando uma guilhotina ainda em pé. Daí, sem pensar duas vezes, Napão levou Ben ao solo com a chave encaixada e fez pressão sentado. Rothwell, maroto, sentiu o arrocho e deu apenas um tapa. O juiz, que estava de olho no lance, parou a luta, dando a vitória a Gabriel por finalização.

Outro destaque ficou para a estreia com finalização de Ildemar Marajó, que aplicou uma chave de joelho reta em Wagner Caldeirão, ainda no card preliminar do UFC São Paulo, e garfou o bônus de finalização da noite. Começou com o pé direito no Ultimate, finalizando na perna esquerda de Caldeirão.

Vitor Belfort defeated Michael Bisping, landing a headkick that led to a technical knockout in the second round of their main event at UFC on FX 7 in Sao Paolo, Brazil on Saturday night.

Belfort, competing in his home country, finished his British opponent and quickly made a statement about who he feels deserves the next shot at a championship belt, aiming his rant at Ultimate Fighter 17 coach Chael Sonnen.

“I want to get the belt,” Belfort said in his post-fight interview. “Take that punk Chael Sonnen out … Dana, Lorenzo, take him out! Let me fight Jon Jones. I need that rematch.

“Take that clown away! Go home!”

Belfort and Bisping measured each other early on, setting a conservative pace in the early parts of the fight. It wasn’t until late in the first round that Belfort landed a headkick and followed that up with a flurry of punches. The round ended with Belfort ahead on points.

With a bloody nose, Bisping received another headkick from Belfort in the second round, which led to the TKO finish at 1:27.

Sonnen, covering the fight as an analyst for Fuel TV, responded to Belfort’s remarks, saying that he would be happy to fight him once he gets passed his fight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in April.

“First I’m going to get rid of Jon Jones, but you are next,” Sonnen said on the Fuel TV post-fight show, directing his comments at Beflort. “People would rather watch me talk about Vitor fighting than watch Vitor fighting.”

In defeat, Bisping loses his third fight in which a win would have earned him a shot at a middleweight title fight. He was, however, gracious in defeat and touted his opponent for his performance.

“Congratulations to Vitor,” Bisping said following the loss. “I’ve got no excuses.”

Belfort improves his overall record to 22-10, while Bisping drops his tally to 23-5.

C.B. Dollaway edged out a debuting Daniel Sarafian in the co-main event at UFC on FX 7, earning a split decision.

Judges found the fight in Dollaway’s favor with scores of 29-28, 28-29, 29-28.

“Daniel was a lot tougher than I anticipated,” Dollaway said following the win. “Hats off to him.”

Sarafian moved very well in the early stages of the fight, throwing and landing overhand rights that backed up his opponent. The former TUF: Brazil contestant also threw flurries with furious punches that found their marks.

Sarafian continued his pace, but slowed down in the second round. Dollaway capitalized on this opportunity, rocking his opponent with a strike late in the second frame.

In the third round, both fighters looked winded, but it was Dollaway that persevered and impressed two out of the three judges for the decision.

With the win, Dollaway improves to 14-4, while Sarafian loses his UFC debut, dropping his record to 7-3.

Gabriel Gonzaga submitted Ben Rothwell in their main card fight at UFC on FX 7, finishing the heavyweight contest with a guillotine in the second round.

Gonzaga landed two right crosses that wobbled Rothwell. The Brazilian swarmed in and attempted to complete a standing guillotine, but found more success when he pulled guard.

Once on the ground, Rothwell had no choice but to tap, bringing the fight to a finish at 1:01 of the round.

Khabib Nurmagomedov made quick work of Thiago Tavares in the evening’s opening main card fight, earning the technical knockout in the first round.

The Russian landed a precise uppercut, dropping his Brazilian counterpart before landing consecutive elbows on the ground to earn the TKO. The fight was stopped at 1:55.
