Following another loss by Wanderlei Silva in this UFC – this time to Chris Leben –, the president of the event, Dana White, didn’t make things much easier:

“People love him for the way he fights, his style and the person he is. But, yes, it’s probably the end of the line for Wanderlei.”

Upset by the way he lost, Wand posted via Twitter: “I cried, thought all kinds of awful things, and I’m ashamed. I’m only thinking about one thing now: I want revenge.”

Now the Brazilian’s future is still up in the air. However, White has some words of consolation for Wand on the website of “Fighters Only” magazine:

“He has nothing to be ashamed of, he was an incredible fighter for the last ten years. People love him and respect him. Age catches up to everyone.”

Chateado pela forma com que foi derrotado, wand postou através do seu Twitter: “Já chorei, já pensei um monte de besteira e estou com vergonha. Só penso em uma coisa agora: eu quero revanche.”

Sobre o futuro do curitibano, ainda persiste o mistério. No entanto, White consolou Wand em declaração ao site da revista “Fighters Olny”:

“Ele não tem nada do que se envergonhar, tem sido um lutador incrível nos últimos dez anos. As pessoas o amam e o respeitam. A idade chega pra todo mundo”, fala Dana.

Tito added a mound more of these to his bank account.

He didn’t star in the main event, but he was by far the biggest earner at UFC 132 last Saturday in Las Vegas. Besides picking up the 75,000-dollar bonus for sinking the sightliest submission of the night, Tito Ortiz pocketed a cool 450 grand, bringing his total payday to 525 big ones! Next atop the big-money maker list comes Wanderlei Silva, with 200,000 dollars, even after having lost in just 27 seconds.

Após a derrota de Wanderlei Silva para Chris Leben no UFC 132, no último sábado, o presidente da organização, Dana White, foi direto: “Acho que é o fim da estrada para Silva”.

Desde que voltou ao Ultimate, Wand não conseguiu repetir as grandes atuações dos tempos do Pride. Em seis apresentações, perdeu quatro, duas em rápidos nocautes, contra Quinton Jackson, em 3min21s, e agora contra Leben, em apenas 27s.

No entanto, sobre a chance de se aposentar indicada por White, não é o que parece estar nos planos de Wanderlei.

“Já chorei, já pensei um monte de besteiras e estou com vergonha. Só penso em uma coisa agora:eu quero revanche”, comentou através do Twitter.

Following Wanderlei Silva’s defeat at the hands of Chris Leben at UFC 132 last Saturday, promotional president Dana White was blunt: “I think it’s the end of the line for Silva.”

Since returning to the UFC fold Wanderlei has not managed to reproduce the performances that marked his tenure at Pride FC. In six appearances he’s lost four, two of them coming by quick knockout – one to Quinton Jackson in 3:21 minutes and the other to Leben in just 27 seconds.

However, when addressing his impending retirement suggested by White, Wanderlei made it clear the option does not figure in his plans.

“I cried; I had all kinds of awful thoughts; and I’m ashamed. Now I’m only thinking about one thing: I want revenge,” he remarked over Twitter.

The king of the world during his days at Pride FC, it’s been some years now that Wanderlei Silva has been riding a rocky road, ever since he entered the UFC fray. He’s seen six losses in his last eleven fights. On his return to the UFC, specifically, he’s suffered four losses in six fights – well below the kind of performance Wand fans were used to during the earlier part of his career.

“People love him a lot for the way he fights, his style and the person he is. But, yes, it’s probably the end of the road for Wanderlei,” the UFC president spelled the “Axe Murderer’s” sentence.

White made a similar declaration in the past, but referring to Chuck Liddell, another big-time popular hero. Either way, it’s bad news for Wand, who turns 35 years old on this day.

Indeed, White even compared the case of Wand to that of Liddell. The promotional kingpin feels Wanderlei has nothing more to prove.

The Brazilian’s bane on the occasion, Chris Leben, was cordial in what he had to say.

“Wanderlei is my favorite fighter; I never imagined I’d beat him like that. I expected to fight three rounds. I’ve never been so shocked by a fight. Wanderlei’s a legend; what he did for the sport is unbelievable,” he said.

UFC president Dana White dished out the fight of the night bonuses to the stars of the evening’s title bout, between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber. Now Tito Ortiz used his Jiu-Jitsu to good effect in earning himself the submission of the night bonus in his first win since 2006. No less impressive was Carlos Condit’s knockout of the night for the flying knee that took Dong Hyun Kim off the list of unbeaten fighters.

Each bonus award was worth an extra 75,000 dollars for the recipients.

In Brazil, the stage for the August UFC Rio show, celebrities from showbiz also frequent fight sport events, as GRACIEMAG.com readers are well aware.

Today, July 3, is the 35th birthday of one of the greatest legends of MMA. Wanderlei César da Silva, aka Wand, set into his turning of age the way he likes to: with an ice pack resting on his aching body.

But the joy ends there: in the video, it was time to rewatch the disheartening knockout he suffered at UFC 132 to the heavy-handed Chris Leben, the opponent the Brazilian was hoping to put away before heading into a violent encounter with the big-mouthed Chael Sonnen, before taking on former rival Vitor Belfort.

While he repondered his plans and licked his wounds, Wand asked forgiveness of his followers on Twitter. A plain-put and emotional, “Sorry, my gang”, made his disappointment clear. The fans rushed to salute the myth, among them a number of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA world champions.

“You don’t need to apologize to anybody.” “Keep your head up.” You’re our hero,” were some of the messages sent by Rômulo Barral, André Galvão, Gesias Cavalcante, Antonio Pezão, Rolles Gracie and a number of other big names from the world of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA as well as lesser-known fans, among the 100,000 followers who keep up with Silva on the social networking site.

In the crowd at UFC 132, Chael Sonnen commented to MMAFighting.com about the 27-second knockout – and was respectful of the moment the former Pride FC champion was going through.

“I was rooting for Chris, but I sincerely hope Wand is ok; I don’t want anything bad to happen to him. But he really doesn’t have what it takes to do this anymore,” said the fighter, one of the forces in the middleweight ranks of the UFC, confessing that he was surprised at how quickly the fight ended.

Released after his performance-enhancing-drugs suspension, Chael sees no reason to face Wand anymore and turns his sights to Machida.

“Really, the only guy capable of putting him away quicker was me. But now it doesn’t make sense to fight him, and I don’t want to be the next one to send him to the doctor; he’ll have to find another fight. I don’t want to fight Chris [Leben] either; I’d rather face that karate guy, Machida, before fighting for the middleweight title again. We’ll see,” he said.

“The interesting thing about this fight with Wanderlei was that Chris was certainly inspired by him – and today he beat him. That’s big praise for the Brazilian, and I hope he sees that as consolation right now,” said Sonnen signing off elegantly.
