American Top Team rep Danillo “Indio” Villefort faced the tough Joey Villaseñor at the 13^th installment of Shark Fights this Saturday in Texas. After three lively rounds, the Jiu-Jitsu black belt was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

Paul Daley, who was fired from the UFC after hitting Josh Koshcheck after the final bell at UFC 113, dominated three rounds against Jorge Masvidal and won by unanimous decision. Now Houston Alexander landed a string of strikes to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, obliging the referee to call an end to the fight in the second round.

In the evening’s main event, Keith Jardine, a former “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show contestant who has faced some of the biggest names of all times like Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, couldn’t get into the game against the event’s light heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley, and dropped a split decision.

O americano Paul Daley, demitido do Ultimate depois que agrediu Josh Koshchek ao final da luta válida pelo UFC 113, dominou os três rounds contra Jorge Masvidal e venceu por decisão unânime. Já Houston Alexander aplicou uma sequência de golpes em Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, que obrigou o juiz a encerrar o embate no segundo assalto.

Na luta principal da noite, Keith Jardine, que participou da segunda temporada do reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”, e enfrentou alguns dos maiores lutadores de todos os tempos, como Chuck Liddell e Wanderlei Silva, também não resistiu a má fase e foi mandando embora do UFC. Um dos mais talentosos lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu dos anos dourados, Ricardo Libório hoje vive nos Estados Unidos e é o responsável pela academia de MMA mais bem estruturada do mundo, a American Top Team. Faixa-preta de Carlson Gracie, Libório revela como funciona a engrenagem da ATT, que conta com atletas renomadíssimos como Tiago Alves Pitbull, Thiago Silva,  Antônio Pezão, Jorge Santiago, Mike Brown, Kimbo Slice, Luiz Cane Banha, entre outros.

Ricardo Libório relembra também alguns momentos de sua carreira, como a conquista da medalha de ouro no primeiro Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu (1996) num lutaço contra Léo Castello Branco.

Vencedor do Shotoo e do WEC, Will Ribeiro foi considerado um dos pesos leves mais virtuosos e agressivos da época. Mas Will, que treinava inclusive com o atual campeão José Aldo, foi vítima de um acidente de moto no ano passado, e hoje luta todo dia para progredir na recuperação. No Sensei deste sábado, Will mostra que seu ponto forte está mesmo na força mental, e gradativamente vai voltando à rotina das lutas. Hoje em dia, ele trabalha como árbitro lateral do Shotoo Brasil.

E, como não poderia faltar, também nesta edição do Sensei Sportv, a consagradora vitória de Maurício Shogun, que tomou o cinturão de Lyoto Machida com um chocante nocaute ainda no primeiro round.

O Sensei Sportv vai ao ar à meia-noite e meia de sábado pra domingo no seu Canal Campeão também em Lutas. Ah, a promoção Sensei Sportv com Vitor Belfort vai até o dia 5 de junho.

It’s a reminder of how, often in Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense classes, the masters often overlook repeating this law that should be written in stone: “Never turn your back on an aggressor, or at least get enough distance to avoid any foul play.”

Isso faz lembrar que, em muitas aulas de Jiu-Jitsu e defesa pessoal, os mestres por vezes esquecem de repetir esta lei pétrea: “Não darás as costas para o ofensor, ao menos que haja uma distância segura contra crocodilagens”.

Maurício Shogun knocked Lyoto Machida out in the first round at UFC 113 this Saturday, and again he has found his place at the top of the MMA world, like during the days of Pride FC. After the show, in Canada, Shogun was all joy:

“I’m so happy! This belt is my dream, my life. I trained hard every day for this!”

In the octagon, the Curitiba native stated that one of his strategies for beating Lyoto was to brush up on his striking. At the press conference, he said what else he had done differently.

“In the first fight I trained a lot based on Lyoto’s game, which is different. This time I looked to take more risks, expose myself more and finish the fight quickly. Thank God, I managed to impose my tactics and get the knockout,” explained the fighter, who again remarked on the result from the first fight against Lyoto.

“For this fight, I didn’t even think about the first one. There was a lot of controversy the last time, but it just served as motivation for me. It served to make me train hard and get this win.”

The knockout came at 3:35 minutes of the first round. The new champion commented on the moment.

“I saw he was dazed by the first punch, so I mounted and kept hitting till the ref intervened. Truth is, I stopped hitting before the ref broke it up. When we see the opportunity to get the knockout, we try not to miss it. But he was already stunned by the first punch.

After having made it to the top of the world MMA ranking, having won a thorny GP at Pride FC, Shogun dealt with injuries and underperformed. Back at the top, with the UFC title, he again takes his place among the best in the world.

“I always believed I could make it to where I am today. I always had confidence in myself and pursued my dream of being the UFC champion of the world.”

In finishing, as he had already told GRACIEMAG.com previously, Shogun stressed that he is a professional fighter and the only one he wouldn’t face is his friend Wanderlei Silva. Or in other words, if the UFC puts him against Anderson Silva, the door is wide open.

Despite the riveting title bout between Maurício Shogun and Lyoto Machida, a regrettable incident marred UFC 113, this Saturday in Canada. After taking a setback from the controversial Josh Koshcheck, Paul Daley lost his head and assaulted his opponent after the bout was over. And his punishment couldn’t be any worse.

“He’ll never be back here. There’s no excuse for something like that. I think it was one of the most stupid things I’ve ever seen, because the guy is talented, one of the best in the world in his division,” said an angry UFC president Dana White.

The incident was reminiscent of what happened to Renato Babalu. In the UFC’s interpretation, the Brazilian refused to let go of the choke hold he had on David Heath, at UFC 74. Heath passed out and Babalu was kicked out.

And the light heavyweight belt traded hands this Saturday in Canada, at UFC 113. It has recently been passed from Quinton Jackson, Forrest Griffin to Rashad Evans and didn’t stay very long with Lyoto Machida. Shogun put on a show and now takes it home with him to Curitiba. The bout between Josh Koshcheck and Paul Daley was a heated one, as well. Check out it all went:

Lyoto Machida vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Shogun pushed the action from the start, with kicks and strikes. Lyoto felt the pressure and went for the takedown. He managed to take Rua to the mat twice, but the Southern Brazilian managed to get up. After suffering yet another strike, Machida dropped to the ground. Shogun followed up with strikes, mounted and more strikes. The technical knockout came at 3:35 min of the first round. With the result, Shogun is the new light heavyweight champion. Now another rematch could be on the cards for the near future, against Rogério Minotouro.

Paul Daley vs Josh Koscheck

Playing a strategic game, Josh Koscheck used his wrestling well to stifle Paul Daley’s knockout ability. He also used his guile, after making a meal out of an illegal knee thrown by his opponent. In the wrestling vs bosing bout, this time the former prevailed. Koshcheck got the takedown at will and was savvy on the ground, where his Jiu-Jitsu skills served him well. In the first two round, he made it to his opponent’s back and nearly sunk a rear-naked choke. In the final stanza, he mounded and calmly controlled the action.

And the mood became tense. After the final bell, Daley took a cheap shot at an unwary Koshckeck. In the end, after winning the unanimous decision in his favor, Koshcheck provoked his next opponent, Georges St-Pierre. And was promptly booed.

Jeremy Stephens vs Sam Stout

The bout was evenly matched from the outset. Despite Sam Stout being favored in the standup department, Jeremy Stephens was unafraid and landed solid strikes, mainly in the counter-attack. In the third round, Stout made the most of an injury to his opponent and went all out, but it wasn’t enough. Stephens landed solid strikes and knees throughout the fight and took the split decision.

Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs Matt Mitrione

After suffering in the first round, when he escaped two triangles and an arm triangle, Kimbo went into the second round exhausted. Matt Mitrione punished him on the feet and, on the ground, mounted and struck Ferguson until the referee stepped in. The technical knockout came at 4:24 min.

Alan Belcher vs Patrick Cote

The Jiu-Jitsu training with Daniel Moraes shone through and, after a back-and-forth first round, was Alan Belcher’s main weapon in overcoming Patrick Cote, with a rear-naked choke bringing the fight to a halt at 3:29 min of the second. In the octagon, after having won, he took the opportunity to challenge Anderson Silva, the target of every fighter in the middleweight division.

Maurício Shogun nocauteou Lyoto Machida no primeiro round, no UFC 113, neste sábado, e novamente chegou ao topo do mundo no MMA, como nos tempos do Pride. Após o show, no Canadá, Shogun era só alegria: 

“Estou muito feliz! Este cinturão é o meu sonho, é a minha vida. Eu treinei todo dia duro para isso!” 

No octagon, o curitibano já havia declarado que uma das alternativas para bater Lyoto foi afiar mais os punhos. Na coletiva de imprensa, disse o que mais foi diferente. 

“Na primeira luta treinei muito em cima do jogo do Lyoto, que é muito diferenciado. Dessa vez pensei em me arriscar um pouco mais, me expor e tentar finalizar logo a luta. Graças a Deus, consegui impor a minha tática e nocautear”, explicou o lutador, que comentou mais uma vez o resultado do primeiro confronto contra Machida. 

“Para esta luta, nem pensei na primeira. Houve muita polêmica da outra vez, mas isso serviu apenas como motivação para mim. Serviu para eu treinar duro e conseguir essa vitória.” 

O nocaute foi aos 3min35s do round inicial. O novo campeão comentou o momento. 

“No primeiro soco vi que ele ficou grogue, então montei e fiquei dando até o juiz intervir. Na verdade, parei de bater antes de o juiz interromper. Quando vemos essa oportunidade de nocautear, tentamos não perdê-la. Mas ele ficou abalado com o primeiro soco já.” 

Depois de ser considerado o melhor do mundo na categoria, tendo vencido um GP espinhoso no Pride, Shogun lidou com lesões e se apresentou abaixo do rendimento normal. A volta por cima, com o título do UFC, o coloca novamente entre os melhores do mundo. 

“Sempre acreditei que poderia chegar a onde estou hoje. Sempre confiei em mim e corri atrás disso, dos meus sonhos e de ser campeão mundial do UFC.”

Por fim, como já havia declarado ao GRACIEMAG.com anteriormente, Shogun reforçou que é um lutador profissional e que apenas não enfrentaria seu amigo Wanderlei Silva. Ou seja: se o UFC quiser colocá-lo contra Anderson, as portas estão abertas.
