Diego Brandão, o Ceará, era pura emoção logo após a finalização contra Dennis Bermudez, no TUF Finale 14. Além se sagrar como primeiro brasileiro campeão do reality show, o faixa-preta garantiu contrato com o UFC numa campanha perfeita. Durante o programa, nocauteou três vezes no primeiro round. Na final do TUF, neste sábado, um armlock no primeiro assalto o levou ao triunfo. Para completar, Brandão faturou os bônus de melhor luta da noite e o de finalização.

“Quando cai, esperei o momento de encaixar a chave de braço”, descreveu.

Com 80 mil dólares por conta das bonificações, mais a bolsa – de valor ainda não declarado -, o faixa-preta espera realizar o desejo que serviu como combustível para as vitórias.

“Fiz uma promessa quando estava na casa. Vou doar 15 mil dólares, que no Brasil dá algo próximo de 30 mil reais. Vou doar a crianças com câncer no Brasil e vou visitá-las nos hospitais. Espero fazer um Natal melhor para as crianças neste ano, porque não tive um feliz. Meu pai faleceu”, contou o lutador de Manaus ao MMAJunkie.

“A missão está cumprida. Por três anos foi uma guerra para mim aqui nos EUA. Não via a minha família, aprendi a falar inglês… É duro. Não fui à escola quando era mais jovem. Trabalhei duro para a minha família sobreviver”, disse.

Com a vitória, Diego é mais um manauara na categoria de penas do UFC. José Aldo, atual campeão, também é de Manaus.

Diego “Ceará” Brandão was all emotions just after submitting Dennis Bermudez at TUF Finale 14. Besides earning the distinction of being the first Brazilian to win the reality show, the black belt secured a UFC contract for his perfect campaign on the program, where he notched three first-round knockouts in the lead-up to the first-round armbar that capped off his season. What’s more, the submission hold earned Brandão two “Best of” bonuses on the night.

“When I landed, I waited for the right moment to sink the armbar,” he explained.

With 80,000 dollars in bonus money on top of his purse – the payout hasn’t yet been announced –, the black belt hopes to fulfill the dream that was a driving force in his victories.

“I made a promise when I was at home: I’m going to donate 15,000 dollars, which in Brazil comes to about 30,000 reais. I’ll donate it to children with cancer in Brazil, and I’m going to visit them in the hospital. I hope to make Christmas better for the kids this year, because I didn’t have a happy one–my father died,” the Manaus native told MMAJunkie.com.

“Mission accomplished. The last three years have been a war for me here in the USA. I couldn’t see my family; I learned to speak English… It was rough. I didn’t go to school when I was a kid. I worked hard so my family could get by,” he said.

With the win Diego becomes the latest Manaus native to bolster the UFC’s featherweight division – current champion José Aldo is from the city, too.

With 13 wins and seven losses, Diego “Ceará” Brandão is one of the newest athletes to make it into the UFC ranks, winning his fight at TUF Finale 14 and taking his post as one of the winners of the promotion’s reality show.

Diego, who was already on a roll with three first-round knockouts during the filming of the show, went one further in paving his way into the promotion’s featherweight fold. With an armbar in a spectacular fight against Dennis Bermudez, he nabbed two of the evening’s three “best of” bonuses: “Fight of the Night,” alongside Bermudez, and “Submission of the Night.”

With the two prizes, the Jiu-Jitsu black belt netted 80,000 dollars in bonus money alone, which will come in handy when he builds the house in Manaus, Brazil, that he promised his mother.

“Knockout of the Night” honors went to John Dodson, who was the other big winner of the show–but in the bantamweight division.

This Saturday, the TUF Finale 14 saw two new athletes enter the UFC fray with a bang, not to mention the showdown between the two coaches of the show: Michael Bisping, who was himself a winner of the reality show, and the controversy-causing Jason Miller. It was the show’s farewell to Spike TV. Now TUF will be produced by Fox television network, while a Brazilian version of the show will be broadcast by Globo.

With strained relations between them when TUF was being recorded, Bisping and Miller were finally face to face in the cage. First round action saw Miller nearly achieve mount on the Englishman but expend a lot of energy in doing so. Somewhat awkwardly, Miller suffered an onslaught of strikes in the second stanza. With five rounds to work with, Bisping cut the encounter short in the third, punishing his foe with strikes and following up dishing out further punishment on the ground. Miller was rendered defenseless, and the referee called an end to the action. With the outcome, the best English fighter on the scene at present notched his fourth win in a row, placing him closer to a potential title showdown with Anderson Silva.

In determining the winner of the TUF featherweight division this season, Diego Brandão made history. In a back-and-forth affair with Dennis Bermudez, Diego started out eating shots in the standup action but replied in kind with a knockdown and well-timed takedown. Soon thereafter, though, Brandão took a hard hit that knocked him down and created the impression that all was lost. But when Bermudez took his chances with ground and pound, Diego pulled a picture-perfect armbar out of his sleeve and obliged his opponent to tap out. Having three first-round knockouts on the show in the lead-up to the final, the black belt finally showed his Jiu-Jitsu is still up to par.

“Now I’m going to buy a house for my mom,” he declared after the fight.

Diego is another MMA ace from the Brazilian city of Manaus in the UFC featherweight division, now dominated by his fellow Amazonas-state native José Aldo.

The TUF bantamweight title fight saw TJ Dillashaw and John Dodson face off in a quick affair. TJ, a wrestler, insisted in standing and trading–Dodson’s area of expertise. The result was a technical knockout win for striker Dodson in less than two minutes of action.

Com 14 vitórias e sete derrotas, Diego Brandão “Ceará” é um dos novos atletas do UFC após a vitória no TUF Finale 14, que definiu os vencedores da edição do reality show do Ultimate.

Diego, que já fizera bonito durante o programa, com três nocautes no primeiro round, melhorou ainda mais o cartão de visitas para a divisão de penas do Ultimate. Após finalizar com um belo armlock numa luta incrível contra Dennis Bermudez, faturou duas das bonificações da noite: a de melhor luta, ao lado de Bermudez, e de melhor finalização.

Com os dois prêmios acumulados, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu recebeu 80 mil dólares apenas nas premiações extras. Uma ajudinha a mais para construir a casa que prometeu à mãe, em Manaus.

O bônus de melhor nocaute foi para John Dodson, também vencedor do programa, mas na divisão de galos.

O TUF Finale 14 definiu, neste sábado, mais dois atletas que chegam com moral no UFC, além de trazer o combate entre os treinadores da edição Michael Bisping, que também já venceu o reality show, e o polêmico Jason Miller. Foi a última vez do evento na Spike TV. Agora o TUF será produzido pela Fox, além de ter uma edição no Brasil, na Globo.

Depois de uma relação difícil durante as gravações do TUF, finalmente Bisping e Miller estiveram frente a frente. Na primeira parcial, Miller chegou perto da montada contra o inglês, mas gastou muita energia. Meio atabalhoado, levou muitos golpes de Bisping na segunda parcial. A luta era programada para cinco rounds, mas no terceiro Michael acabou definindo. Depois de castigar na trocação, seguiu batendo o adversário ao chão. Miller mal se defendia, então só restou ao juiz interromper. Com o resultado, o melhor lutador inglês em ação na atualidade chaga à quarta vitória em sequência, mais próximo de uma disputa de cinturão contra Anderson Silva.

Na definição do campeão da edição do TUF entre os pesos penas, Diego Brandão fez história. Numa luta cheia de reviravoltas contra Dennis Bermudez, Diego começou levando a pior na trocação, mas depois respondeu com um knockdown e uma bela queda. Logo depois do bom momento, sofreu um duro soco, caiu em knockdown e dava a impressão de que tudo estava perdido. Mas, quando Bermudez se arriscava no ground and pound, Diego tirou um armlock perfeito e obrigou o oponente a dar os três tapinhas. Depois de três nocautes no primeiro round durante o programa, o faixa-preta mostrou que também está com o Jiu-Jitsu afiado.

“Agora vou poder dar uma casa para a minha mãe”, declarou.

Diego é mais uma fera de Manaus na categoria de penas do Ultimate, hoje dominada por outro lutador da cidade do Amazonas, José Aldo.

Na divisão de galos, TJ Dillashaw e John Dodson disputavam a vaga no UFC. TJ, especialista em wrestling, insistiu na trocação, a área de Dodson. O resultado foi o nocaute técnico a favor de Dodson em menos de dois minutos de luta.
