Last weekend the IBJJF landed in Australia to host the Sydney Open. William Dias of Nova União stood out by winning gold in both the medium heavy and absolute divisions.

In both finals, William beat Renato Silva (Southside BJJ), and in each case, victory came by armbar.

In the medium heavyweight final, William swept and got the finish all within the first minute. In the open division, he had to take the back, maneuver on top and then catch the arm.

No último final de semana, a Austrália foi o porto no qual os craques da arte suave desembarcaram para lutar, mais especificamente no Sydney Open de Jiu-Jitsu da IBJJF.

Dentre os atletas inscritos que participaram do torneio, o destaque ficou para as disputas na faixa-preta. Nome do evento, William Dias, da Nova União, fez bonito tanto no peso meio-pesado quanto no absoluto.

Para conquistar os ouros, William teve que encarar e vencer Renato Silva (Southside BJJ) nas duas finais. Por coincidência, ambas as vitórias vieram por finalização no armlock.

Na final do peso, William raspou e pegou rápido, com pouco mais de um minuto. Já no absoluto, o campeão teve que pegar as costas, se movimentar por cima e então partir para o braço.

Kit Dale fighting for the no-gi absolute gold. IBJJF.

Famous for his videos on the Internet, Australia’s Kit Dale recently showed that his BJJ is up to snuff by winning all four golds up for grabs at the Sydney Open.

In the gi absolute, Dale beat former UFC fighter Yan Cabral after the Brazilian suffered a shoulder injury. In the no-gi absolute, however, Dale had to come up with a submission to secure the gold.

It was against Reid Reale, whom Dale had already defeated in the medium heavyweight gi final. In their second final, Dale achieved a choke from the back with just one hand. Note that, before his other hand arrived to tighten up the chokehold, his opponent had already surrendered. Now that’s tight! Check it out in this video.

Australia’s Kit Dale was the big winner of the Sydney Open, held last weekend in Australia. Dale, who had been away from competitions due to a knee surgery, came back with a vengeance and won everything there was to win, meaning the medium heavyweight and open divisions in both the gi and no-gi sections of the event. Most notable was his absolute gi final win over UFC fighter Yan Cabral.

Na busca pelo ouro no peso leve, Lucas Santana (Legacy) mostrou que estava com as raspagens em dia, e usou uma delas para contra-atacar as investidas do adversário e chegar à vitória.

Na batalha final, contra Brian Thomas (MABJJNC), Lucas se viu pego no single-leg pelo oponente, mas usou a força do inimigo para raspar e terminar nas costas, de onde puxou para o estrangulamento.

O último domingo foi repleto de bom Jiu-Jitsu na Austrália. Assim foram ditados os Opens com e sem kimono de Sidney, realizados no dia 22 de março.

No Sydney Open de kimono, destaque para o casca-grossa da Nova União Willian Dias, que ficou no topo do pódio no pesadíssimo e também no absoluto, ao bater Brian Falzon na finalíssima.

Já o destaque no torneio sem kimono ficou para o local Lachlan Giles, que mordeu o ouro no peso médio e no aberto, ao lutar com o companheiro de equipe Pavlo Stolyar.

No duelo de equipes, melhor para Gracie Barra, seguida pela Maromba Academia, no Open de kimono e sem.
