This Saturday at Rio de Janeiro’s Flamengo Club, the ninth installment of the WOCS event took place, and there was no lack of excitement in the cage. The gymnasium was packed, both in the main stands and VIP sections. Guests of honor like Master Osvaldo Paquetá, Pedro Rizzo and Amaury Bitetti among others attended the event promoted by Tatá Duarte and Phillip Lima. But the most important part was what went on in the cage.

In the main event, Alexandre Baixinho mixed his specialty of muay thai will the Jiu-Jitsu he practices at Carlson Gracie academy well. Following some solid kicks to Alexander Andreotti, Baixinho shot for the takedown, reached the mount and rained down strikes until referee Muzio De Angelis intervened.

In the co-main event, the evening’s international matchup, Rogério Paraíba showed he is in fine form once again. The USA’s Steven Muldrow used his wrestling to good effect landing solid takedowns on the Brazilian. Rogério went to his Jiu-Jitsu and, in the second round, sunk a snug triangle that brought the fight to a close with a tapout.

Another heavily-anticipated fight was the Jiu-Jitsu vs. luta livre encounter between Fernando Paulon and Alan Chatuba, which ended in a no contest. Chatuba was having a good run in the striking, avoiding Paulon’s takedown attempts. In the third, Paulon went all out in trying to get his opponent to the ground. On the ground, Paulon landed a knee deemed to have been illegal by the referee. Chatuba looked to be in pain and alleged that he was unable to continue. The bout ended without a winner and should be rescheduled in the future.

In Fight representative Atila suffered, but he did get the win over Bob Sponja. Despite getting the worst of the action for most of the fight, the fighter kept his faith till the very end, managing the victory with a reverse triangle in the third round. D’Angelo had a good showing at WOCS yet again. Landing solid takedowns in all three rounds, he took the unanimous decision. In an impressive rally from behind, Gabriel Monkey overcame Edvan Madureira. Monkey got the worst of the first, but went all out with his strikes in the second and got the knockout.

O WOCS realizou a sua nona edição neste sábado, no Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, e não faltou emoção dentro do cage. O público lotou as dependências do ginásio, seja nas arquibancadas ou nas duas áreas VIPs. Convidados de honra como o mestre Osvaldo Paquetá, Pedro Rizzo e Amaury Bitetti, entre muitos outros, prestigiaram o evento de Tatá Duarte e Phillip Lima. Mas o que mais importou foi o show de lutas dentro do cercado. 

No desafio principal, Alexandre Baixinho misturou bem o muay thai, sua especialidade, com o Jiu-Jitsu treinado na academia Carlson Gracie. Depois de aplicar bons chutes em Alexander Andreotti, Baixinho derrubou, chegou à montada e desferiu socos, até a interrupção do juiz Muzio De Angelis.

Na segunda luta principal, o combate internacional, Rogério Paraíba mostrou que está em grande forma mais uma vez. O americano Steven Muldrow usou muito bem o seu wrestling e conseguiu boas quedas no brasileiro. Rogério tratou de usar o seu Jiu-Jitsu e, no segundo assalto, encaixou um justo triângulo, golpe definitivo. Obrigou o adversário a desistir. 

Outro combate aguardado, o desafio Jiu-Jitsu x luta livre entre Fernando Paulon e Alan Chatuba acabou em no contest. Chatuba vinha bem na trocação, tendo evitado bem as quedas de Paulon. No terceiro assalto, Paulon foi com tudo para cima e derrubou o oponente. Ao chão, na interpretação da arbitragem, Paulon acabou aplicando uma joelhada ilegal. Chatuba sentiu o golpe e alegou não ter condições de prosseguir. O combate terminou sem vencedor e a deve ser remarcado.

O atleta da In Fight Atila sofreu, mas venceu Lucas Bob Sponja. Apesar de levar a pior na maior parte do combate, o lutador acreditou até o fim, o que valeu a vitória. Um triângulo invertido, no terceiro round, proporcionou a finalização a favor de Atila. Willian Viana também buscou a finalização contra Gleisson Sousa. Viana quedou, passou a guarda, montou, passou para as costas e finalizou com um mata-leão.  

Nos demais combates, Felipe Boanada provou mais uma vez que tem futuro contra Diego Costa. Melhor na trocação, venceu por decisão unânime. D’angelo foi bem mais uma vez no WOCS. Com boas quedas nos três rounds, garantiu a decisão unânime. Numa virada impressionante, Gabriel Monkey bateu Edvan Madureira. Monkey levou a pior no primeiro round, mas partiu com tudo para a trocação na segunda parcial, o que valeu o nocaute.

Aconteceu nesta sexta-feira, na academia Energizer, no Rio de Janeiro, a pesagem para o WOCS 9. As disputas começam neste sábado, às 19h, no Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.

Todos os lutadores atingiram o peso. Na principal luta, Alexandre Baixinho, que já se apresentou no UFC, encara o gaúcho Alexander Andreotti.

“Estou bem para a luta e pronto para dar um grande espetáculo ao público”, avisa Baixinho.

Outra luta aguardada é entre Fernando Paulon e Alan Chatuba, que traz de volta o tradicional confronto entre Jiu-Jitsu e luta livre. Impressionou também a forma física do americano Steven Muldrow, adversário de Rogério Paraíba na luta internacional. Representando a equipe Carlson Gracie, Muldrow promete dar trabalho. Outros lutadores de destaque no card são Lucas Bob Sponja e Willian Viana, entre outros.

The organization also announced the opponent of one-time UFC fighter Alexandre Baixinho, Alexander Andreotti. The fight was bumped up as the main event, as Alexandre Pulga, who would have faced Alan Chatuba, was injured during training. Chatuba remains on the card, now against Fernando Paulon, a Brazilian Top Team representative.

“Pulga suffered a knee injury and was substituted by Paulon. The main event will now be between Baixinho and Alexander Andreotti and the co-main event, Rogério Paraíba versus Steven Muldrow, a wrestler with two MMA wins,” explains promoter Phillip ima.

Tickets are on sale by telephone (21) 7816-0676 e (21) 7821-6325. This time there will be a super-VIP area providing a T-shirt (use obligatory) and a more upscale buffet than the normal VIP seating.

A organização também anunciou nesta quarta-feira o adversário de Alexandre Baixinho, Alexander Andreotti. A luta foi transferida para principal atração do evento, uma vez que Alexandre Pulga, que enfrentaria Alan Chatuba, acabou se contundindo durante os treinamentos. Chatuba permanece no card, agora contra Fernando Paulon, atleta da Brazilian Top Team.

“O Pulga teve uma lesão no joelho e foi substituído pelo Paulon. A luta principal passa a ser do Baixinho com Alexander Andreotti e o co main event é a luta do Rogério Paraíba contra o americano Steven Muldrow, atleta da luta olímpica, com duas vitórias no MMA”, explica o organizador Phillip Lima.

In the black belt division, the absolute champion was Fabrício Prantera; at brown Manoel Oliveira took the title; at purple it was Bruno Iglessias; while at blue Murillo Sabino and foreigner Steven Muldrow closed out for Carlson’s school.

The event was attended by such illustrious figures as Kyra Gracie, Amaury Bitetti and Carlson’s son, Junior Gracie.

Further standouts in the Carlson Gracie Cup were Kim Terra (Check Mat), winner of the lightweight division, and Marcelo “Vanuza” Toscano (Carlson Gracie), who closed out the super heavyweight division with Fabrício Prantera. In the master category, Fabio Alves (Brazilian Fight) took weight and absolute, while teammate Osiris Maia came out on top in the medium heavyweight / senior division.
In the overall team scores of the Ryan Gracie No-Gi tournament, Gracie Humaitá took first, followed by BTT and GFTeam.
