Chael Sonnen was caught out in the test for illicit substances after his fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The urine-analysis results showed above-normal levels of testosterone, which would lead to enhanced performance.

The fighter did suggest he was taking an illegal substance prior to taking the test that would ultimately come up positive, as reported in a Sports Illustrated interview with the California State Athletic Commission’s George Dodd: “He only indicated that he was taking it but he never indicated why. Hejust let me know he was taking [something]. But when you do take it you still have to show a medical reason.”

Initially, Chael is suspended from the UFC for six weeks, during which the fighter will be allowed to present his defense. Sonnen may then end up banned from the octagon for a full year, as well as pay a 2,500-dollar fine.

Chael Sonnen foi flagrado no exame antidoping depois da luta contra Anderson Silva, no UFC 117.  O nível de testosterona na urina do lutador, segundo os exames, estava bem acima do normal, o que definitivamente melhoraria a performance do atleta.

Entretanto, uma das justificativas nos bastidores é de que Sonnen passava por problemas estomacais na semana anterior à luta e poderia ter tomado medicamentos. Apesar de não ter entrado em detalhes, esta inclusive foi a defesa do lutador.

“Ele só disse que estava tomando um medicamento, mas nunca disse o motivo. Sonnen só foi falar dessa medicação quando foi chamado para explicar o ocorrido, mas nunca apresentou uma razão médica”, declara o diretor executivo da Comissão Atlética da Califórnia, George Dodd, em entrevista ao site da revista “Sports Illustrated”.

Chael está previamente suspenso do UFC por seis semanas. Neste período, o lutador apresentará a sua defesa. Sonnen pode ficar, pelo menos, um ano afastado do octagon, além de pagar uma multa de 2.500 dólares.

The most classic of American sport magazines, “Sports Illustrated”, put together a list of the best MMA fighters of the decade. Top spot went to Fedor Emelianenko, a Russian considered by many to be the best in the sport of all times, with a single blemish (by doctor’s intervention) on his 33-fight record.

While the United States produced half the fighters on the list, three Brazilians were included, with Anderson Silva placed at number two.

Other lists involving MMA were included in the article. Knockout of the decade, for example, went to Wanderlei Silva, for his spot-on knee to Quinton Jackson at Pride in 2004. Highest honors for submissions went to Ryo Chonan’s leg lock on Anderson Silva, also at Pride, in 2004.

The fight chosen as best of the decade was Fedor Emelianenko versus Mirko Cro Cop. Also on the list were Royce Gracie vs Sakuraba (1st fight) in third, Pedro Rizzo vs Randy Couture (1^st fight) in fifth, Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton Jackson (2^nd fight) in seventh and Minotauro vs Cro Cop in eighth.
