Otavio Sousa is one of the big names to compete this saturday in Las Vegas

The Saturday will be devoted to Jiu-Jitsu in Las Vegas!

Well, at least at the Sport Center, by the airport, where the IBJJF holds its Las Vegas Spring International Open.

The event has attracted some major names from the Jiu-Jitsu competition circuit.

The current middleweight black belt world champion, Otávio Sousa, will be competing.

So will be BJJ legend and also world champion Nino Schembri.

Other big names to be present are Philipe Della Monica, Keenan Cornelius, Magid Hage IV, Samir Chantre, Oswaldo Moizinho, Mackenzie Dern, Fabiana Borges, among others.

The heavier fighters also deserved the spotlight at the IBJJF Boston Open held last Sunday in Massachusetts.

From Gracie Barra, Gustavo “Sirizinho” Pires won the super-heavyweight category by tapping out Daniel Simmler (Renzo Gracie) with an armbar in the final match.

Paulo Miyao

The thesis has been known since the times of Grand Master Carlos Gracie. From the ground, an element that equalizes forces, Jiu-Jitsu offers the chance of a lighter athlete overcoming a stronger fighter.

A practitioner who proved it once again was featherweight Paulo Miyao, who after shining in the category alongside his brother, João. Paulo dictated the pace to win the absolute against heavier opponents at the San Francisco Open, which was held last weekend.

To close the open class with brother João, Paulo overcame Manny Diaz. To do that, he did what he knows best: he curled up the opponent’s legs to go for the berimbolo.

Nino Schembri faces Gustavo Sirizinho in San Francisco

Black belt who always had the spotlight turned his way a few years ago, Nino Schembri returned to competition in style this last weekend.

The Elvis of the Gentle Art faced the mats at the San Francisco Open and came out with a great result. In the superheavy division, he beat Gustavo Sirizinho 5-0, with a takedown and a guard pass.
