With three submission wins and one loss (precisely on his shot at a career in the UFC), Rolles Gracie is back to training full on for his next commitment. On January 8 the black belt will make an appearance at Shine Fights.

Rolles will have across the cage from him the experienced Mike Ciesnolevicz, who holds a record of 18 wins in 23 fights (4l, 1nc) and has been through major promotions like the UFC and the IFL.

Another former UFC fighter confirmed for the show is Efrain Escudero, a The Ultimate Fighter reality show winner.

Com três vitórias por finalização e uma derrota, justamente quando teve chance no UFC, Rolles Gracie já treina a todo vapor para o próximo compromisso. No dia 8 de janeiro, o faixa-preta se apresenta no Shine Fights.

Rolles vai ter pela frente o experiente Mike Ciesnolevicz, que conta com 18 vitórias em 23 lutas (4d-1NC) e tem passagem por eventos grandes como UFC e IFL.  

Outro ex-lutador do UFC confirmado pelo show é Efrain Escudero, que já venceu no reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”.

No sooner had Shine Fights 3 been canceled, due to an injunction from promoter Don King, who didn’t want his athlete Ricardo Mayorga to face Din Thomas, than GRACIEMAG.com contacted Jiu-Jitsu world champion Bráulio “Carcará” Estima, who would have made his MMA debut this Saturday against Rick Hawn in North Carolina.

In his first statement, he spat out almost everything he was feeling:

“I’m really frustrated. I feel like throwing up just thinking about all I had to give up for the fight, and now it ends this way,” he says.

“I trained like mad. I went through complicated situations in getting here. I missed my son’s first birthday, spent just two nights at home these last two months. In a nutshell, I invested a lot in my training, and I’m not talking financially. I abdicated training in the gi as well, and the World Pro went the way it did. And now there’s the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, in California this June, which I may have put at risk for nothing. I’m really bummed. At least Roger [Gracie] and Jacaré did well and saved the evening.”

Estima further commented on the mood after the show was canceled at the last minute.

“The mood here is one of confusion; no one knows how or when the next step will be taken. Things started coming up little by little. Rock by rock, until the mountain crumbled.

“The promoters said the athletes would get paid in the gymnasium. Then they said the lobby of the hotel, and Devin, the promoter, would show up at 9:30 at night.

“Now they’re saying he’ll get here at 3am, on a chartered jet from Miami, where Don King’s ruling was made. So the mood is one of disgust and confusion. And nobody knows how it all will end. The promoters say it will all be ok tomorrow and that Shine Fights will continue, with the next show in July.”

Bráulio tried to reschedule his fight for an event in England, but unsuccessfully.

“I tried to reschedule this fight for an event to take place this weekend in Birmingham, England, just so all this suffering, all this work, won’t go to waste. You have no idea how much I wanted to fight, how much I suffered for this,” he said in frustration.

An MMA event, a 36-year-old boxer making his debut and a furious tycoon named Don King. With these three factors, Shine Fights 3, to have taken place last night, could not end smoothly. And it ended, without ever having started.

Shortly before the event was set to begin this Saturday, boxing authorities in the state of North Carolina upheld a veto from judge Marc Gold and canceled the show, which featured the fight between Ricardo Mayorga and former UFC fighter Din Thomas as a main event.

According to the judge in Florida, the court judged that Mayorga could not fight without the approval of Don King Productions, which holds a three-year contract for the fighter’s right, according to Sherdog.com

The judge further understood that Mayorga was not a legitimate MMA fighter and was not approved as one. Should he lose, Mayorga’s boxing career would be under threat.

The event then tried to move ahead by making the bout between Murilo Ninja and David heath the mais event. But the North Carolina boxing commission opted to close the doors to Crown Coliseum in Fayeteville and cancel the show.

It is not the first time an MMA show has been canceled in the last minute. Two-time world champion Márcio Pé de Pano had his MMA debut postponed once, due to cancelation of the event. The UFC, too, had legal problems once and had to change states at the last minute, at the end of the 1990s.

Tão logo o Shine Fights 3 foi cancelado, após uma liminar impetrada pelo clássico promotor Don King, que não queria ver seu atleta Ricardo Mayorga contra Din Thomas, GRACIEMAG.com entrou em contato com o campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu Bráulio “Carcará” Estima, que faria sua estreia no MMA na noite deste sábado, contra Rick Hawn na Carolina do Norte.

Em seu primeiro desabafo, Estima vomitou tudo que sentia. Ou quase:

“Estou aqui frustradíssimo. Com vontade de vomitar só de pensar do que tive de abdicar para esta luta, e no fim de tudo terminar assim”, ele diz.

“Treinei pra caramba. Passei por situações complicadas para chegar até aqui. Perdi o primeiro aniversário do meu filho, passei dois dias em casa nesses últimos dois meses. Enfim, eu investi bastante no meu treinamento, e não estou falando em termos financeiros. Abdiquei dos treinos de pano também, e deu no que deu no World Pro. E ainda tem o Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, agora na Califórnia, em junho, que posso ter posto em risco a troco de nada. Estou tristão. Pelo menos o Roger [Gracie] e o [Ronaldo] Jacaré mandaram bem e salvaram a noite”.

Estima comentou também como foi o clima após o cancelamento do show, em cima da hora.

“O clima aqui era de confusão, ninguém sabendo como e quando dar o próximo passo. As coisas foram aparecendo aos poucos. Pedra por pedra caindo, até a montanha desabar.

“Os promotores falaram que todos os atletas receberiam suas bolsas ainda no ginásio. Depois que seria no lobby do hotel, e que o promotor Devin chegaria às 9h30m da noite.

“Agora falaram que ele está chegando 3h da manhã, num jato particular de Miami, onde foi o julgamento do Don King. Enfim, um clima de revolta e confusão. E ninguém sabe ao certo como isso vai terminar. Os promotores falam que vamos acertar tudo amanhã e que o Shine Fights vai continuar, querem fazer o próximo show em julho.

Bráulio tentou até remarcar sua luta para um evento na Inglaterra, sem sucesso.

“Tentei até remarcar essa luta para um evento que acontece no próximo fim de semana em Birmingham, Inglaterra, só para todo esse sofrimento, todo esse trabalho, não passar batido. Vocês não sabem quanto eu queria ter lutado, quanto me custou esse sofrimento”, desabafou.

Um evento de MMA, um lutador de boxe de 36 anos fazendo sua estreia e um cartola chamado Don King enfurecido. Com esses fatores, o Shine Fights 3, marcado para esta noite, não poderia terminar em calmaria. E não terminou mesmo, aliás nem começou.

Pouco antes da hora de início do evento, neste sábado, as autoridades ligadas ao boxe no estado da Carolina do Norte acataram o veto do juiz Marc Gold e cancelaram o show, que teria como luta principal o desafio entre o pugilista Ricardo Mayorga e o ex-UFC Din Thomas.

Segundo o juiz da Flórida, a corte bateu o martelo que Mayorga não podia lutar sem o aval da Don King Productions, que detém seus direitos num contrato de três anos, segundo o Sherdog.com.

O juiz entendeu ainda que Mayorga não era um legítimo lutador de MMA e não estava sendo provido como tal. Caso perdesse, a carreira de Mayorga boxe estava ameaçada.

O evento se adiantou ao problema e tentou levá-lo adiante, com a luta entre Murilo Ninja e David Heath como evento principal. Mas a comissão da Carolina do Norte optou por fechar os portões do Crown Coliseum em Fayetteville, cancelando o show.

Não é a primeira vez que um evento de MMA é cancelado em cima da hora. O bicampeão mundial Marcio Pé de Pano chegou a ter sua estreia no MMA adiada uma vez, por conta de um evento cancelado. O UFC também teve problemas legais e precisou mudar de estado em cima da hora, no fim da década de 1990.

This coming Saturday’s Shine Fights event took another hit. Murilo Ninja’s opponent had to be substituted.

Ninja, brother of UFC light heavyweight champion Maurício Shogun, was set to face Travis Galbraith, but Gailbraith had a falling out with the organization. In his place enters former EliteXC champion David Heath.

Heath, who had a stint in the UFC, holds a record of 14 wins and six losses. With 18 wins, 10 losses and one draw, Ninja heads into the bout with back-to-back wins at Brazil’s Bitetti Combat promotion.

O Shine Fights, que acontece neste sábado, nos Estados Unidos, sofreu uma baixa. O adversário de Murilo Ninja foi substituído. 

Ninja, irmão do campeão do UFC Maurício Shogun, enfrentaria Travis Galbraith, mas este teve um desentendimento com a organização. O substituto para encarar o ex-campeão do EliteXC é David Heath.   

Heath, que tem passagem pelo UFC, conta com 14 vitórias e seis derrotas. Com 18 vitórias, 10 derrotas e um empate, Ninja vem de dois resultados positivos no Bitetti Combat.

A próxima edição do Shine acontece no dia 15 de maio, na Carolina do Norte (EUA). Hoje o GRACIEMAG.com já comentou sobre os treinamentos do faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Bráulio Estima para o evento (ver aqui).

Entretanto, muitas outras feras estarão em ação, principalmente lutadores brasileiros que buscam vingar no cenário americano, todos com boa experiência.

Murilo Ninja é ex-campeão do EliteXC; Eduardo Pamplona já combateu pelo M-1; Alexandre Cacareco venceu as últimas sete lutas no primeiro round; Luiz Azeredo tem experiência no Pride; Junior Assunção tem passagem no UFC; e, completando o time verde e amarelo, Luciano Azevedo também já lutou no Pride.

Os treinos de Amilcar para enfrentar o bom chão do ex-lutador do UFC, ao menos, estão garantidos. Afinal, na Nova União Marlon Sandro e Léo Santos fazem os últimos ajustes para o próximo Sengoku, no domingo, e José Aldo esquenta as turbinas para o duelo com Urijah Faber no WEC, sem falar nos diversos novatos do time que treinam forte para o Shooto Brasil, no dia 17 de março.

“I’ve got a date,” said Amilcar after Saturday morning training, excited about finally getting his chance to shine abroad at the aptly named event. “(Renan) Barão and I will fight April 6. I don’t know who he’ll be facing, but it looks likely I’ll face Jucão (Carneiro).”

Amilcar has been spoilt for training partners to help him prepare for his international debut, as Marlon Sandro and Leo Santos have been hard at work preparing for next Sunday’s Sengoku event and Jose Aldo is getting ready for his impending showdown with Urijah Faber in the WEC, not to mention a number of Nova União’s up-and-comers are getting ready for the March-17 Shooto Brazil event.

Braulio Estima, 29, is now a citizen of the world. He lives in Birmingham, England, and has been touring the United States teaching seminars. It is little wonder “Caracara” is today recognized as having one of the most technical guards in the world.

Even so,  now and then the Ze Radiola student shows that he will never stop being that guy from Recife, Pernambuco, one of the poorest big cities in Brazil.

“Brother … I’m in the middle of a flight! And connected speaking to you. I love technology,” the ADCC absolute champion of 2009 said vibrantly.

Carcará made the most of the flight to comment on his first MMA opponent, in the 80kg category of Shine Fights. His debut will be on May 15.

“So then, I know Rick Hawn is a judo champion, was three-time U.S. champion and even went to the Olympics. It seems he placed ninth at the Athens Games in 2004. And he already has five wins in five fights in MMA. If I remember correctly, he will fight tonight for the sixth time (yesterday). I’ll stay tuned!” he says.

“Surely he won’t want to land under me at all, and will rely on his extra experience in the striking department. Little does he know that I am practicing a lot of stand-up.  My jab is sharp already (laughs),” he added.

Despite the commitment in May, Braulio wants to fight Jiu-Jitsu in April to keep active. “I’ll fight at the World Pro in Abu Dhabi.  There’s no way I’ll miss watching Renzo, Demian and Anderson on the same night! I’ll just stick around there and fight in Abu Dhabi,” concluded the hard-nosed passenger.
