O Shark Fights 14 aconteceu esta sexta-feira no Fair Park City Coliseum, em Lubbock, Texas. Entre os destaques da noite, Danillo “Índio” Villefort venceu na luta principal.

Aliás, não faltou ação no último combate da noite. Índio e o americano Matt Horwich fizeram uma luta com muita trocação e vários ataques no chão. Nos três rounds, o brasiliense foi melhor, mas Horwich não se entregou. Na última parcial, Índio novamente conectou bons socos, já Horwich tentou responder e encaixou um omoplata nos últimos segundos. Mas já era tarde, e a vitória foi para o faixa-preta por decisão unânime. Com o triunfo, Danillo chega à quarta vitória seguida desde que deixou o UFC.

A bela Carina Damm segue em péssima fase. Contra Tara La Rosa, a brasileira não encontrou seu jogo e acabou finalizada no inicio do segundo round por uma chave de calcanhar. Agora a capixaba aumenta para três, o número de derrotas consecutivas.

Shark Fights 14 took place this Friday at Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. Among the highlights of the night was Danillo “Índio” Villefort, who won the main event.

There was no lack of action on the night. Índio and Matt Horwich had an action-packed fight with plenty of striking and ground attacks. The Brazilian got the better of the three-round affair, but Horwich was in it to win it. In the final round Índio landed solid strikes, to which Horwich replied with an omoplata in the final seconds. But it was too late, the win went to the black belt via unanimous decision. The win marks Danillo’s fourth in a row since leaving the UFC.

In the female fight of the night Tara La Rosa got the better of Carina Damm with a heelhook early in the second round, now making it the Brazilian’s third consecutive loss.

Derrotada em sua última apresentação, em dezembro, Carina Damm sofreu um nocaute técnico para a americana Cat Albert Zingano, no evento Crowbar MMA – Winter Brawl. Mas a bela capixaba já tem novo compromisso para sacudir a poeira, e bota sacudir nisso. A lutadora de Jiu-Jitsu encara a estrela Tara LaRosa, próximo dia 11 de março, no Shark Fights 14, como informa nosso colaborador Junior Samurai.

A experiente lutadora americana tem apenas duas derrotas em seu cartel, enquanto Damm vem de dois infortúnios, mas já teve uma sequência de dez vitórias.

O Shark Fights 14 rola no Fair Park City Coliseum, em Lubbock, Texas, e contará na luta principal com o duelo entre os dois ex-UFC Danillo “Índio” Villefort e Matt Horwich.

The Brazilian living in Florida with experience in the UFC (one doctor’s-intervention loss), the WEC, Jungle Fight and the AFC, won an authoritative unanimous decision over always-game Joey Villaseñor (27w, 8l), at the Shark Events 13 event in Texas, making it to his twelfth win, with three losses.

He spoke with GRACIEMAG.com behind the scenes at SF 13, discussing his maturation and explaining how his father Master Francisco Índio was outraged, even after Villefort won his bout.

Villaseñor came in after a title fight with Ronaldo Jacaré at Strikeforce. What does this win mean to your MMA career?

I’ve been trying to get a fight with a big-name fighter for some time, and this opportunity came up at the right time. Thanks to my team, I was readier than ever to go in there and make it happen. I’ve never ducked a challenge, and I wasn’t going to let this one slip away, nor back down. Fortune favors the brave. After this win some doors opened for me, and my manager Alex Davis is taking care of it. Soon I’ll have some good news for you.

You controlled the fight well standing and on the ground. What do you feel made the difference?

Well, it was the first time my brother Marcão and Jorge Santiago were in my corner; that was excellent! In the dressing room, though, something bizarre happened. Man, I just couldn’t get warmed up for the fight. That had me kind of out of sorts, and I couldn’t stop yawning. I was so sleepy; I think it was the adrenaline. But then [Marcos] Parrumpinha, Jorginho and my brother woke me up, and I went in to fight ready.

And what did your father say about the fight?

The old man liked my performance, he just got angry about the third round, when I got taken down. He complained like crazy to Gesias [Cavalcante] and to the folks who were with him (laughs). But he saw that I was fine on bottom, and he relaxed.

Your father worked as head of security for the Brazilian senate for forty years. What are his thoughts on the presidential election coming up in Brazil on October 3^rd?

I think he knows about a lot of things we haven’t a clue about. After all, he’s been working in the field for forty years. I hope the Brazilian people get the vote right, because it would be a shame for a country as beautiful and plentiful as ours without much infrastructure. If us athletes had training centers like the ones we have here in the USA, we’d have much better results in all sports.

American Top Team rep Danillo “Indio” Villefort faced the tough Joey Villaseñor at the 13^th installment of Shark Fights this Saturday in Texas. After three lively rounds, the Jiu-Jitsu black belt was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

Paul Daley, who was fired from the UFC after hitting Josh Koshcheck after the final bell at UFC 113, dominated three rounds against Jorge Masvidal and won by unanimous decision. Now Houston Alexander landed a string of strikes to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, obliging the referee to call an end to the fight in the second round.

In the evening’s main event, Keith Jardine, a former “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show contestant who has faced some of the biggest names of all times like Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, couldn’t get into the game against the event’s light heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley, and dropped a split decision.

O representante da American Top Team Danillo “Índio” Villefort encarou o duro Joey Villasenor na 13ª edição do Shark Fights, realizada na noite deste sábado, no Texas, Estados Unidos. Após três rounds bem movimentados, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu foi declarado vencedor por decisão unânime.

O americano Paul Daley, demitido do Ultimate depois que agrediu Josh Koshchek ao final da luta válida pelo UFC 113, dominou os três rounds contra Jorge Masvidal e venceu por decisão unânime. Edgar Santos, a Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Pedro Galiza and teacher in Texas, entered the cage for his third MMA appearance last 26^th and came up spades.

Edgar entertained the town of Amarillo with his third tapout win in his three-fight MMA career.

“I won at the Shark Fights event, the same promotion where Pedro (Galiza) beat Vinny Pezão. I fought Rodney McFarland and won by armbar. Now Pedro and I should fight in the next event, in September,” remarks Edgar.

Edgar Santos, faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu de Pedro Galiza e professor no Texas, subiu à jaula para sua terceira apresentação no MMA no último dia 26, e fez bonito.

Edgar conquistou na cidade de Amarillo sua terceira vitória consecutiva, as três por finalização.

“Venci no evento Shark Fights, aquele mesmo evento em que o Pedro (Galiza) ganhou do Vinny Pezão. Lutei contra Rodney McFarland, e ganhei com um armlock. Agora Pedro e eu devemos lutar o próximo evento, em setembro”, comenta Edgar.

At 33 years of age, black belt from Brasilia Pedro Galiza would often say how he doesn’t expect much in his MMA career. But with an important win at an event linked to StrikeForce, he may just end up in the eye of the hurricane.

On Saturday Galiza beat TUF winner Vinicius “Pezão ” Magalhaes,at Shark Fights 9 in Texas, where veteran Don Frye also put in an appearance. Having won, Pedrão now returns to Brazil, where he will prepare for his next outing.

“I was training for a fight in Slovakia when the opportunity to fight Vinny arose. So I wasn’t quite prepared since, you know, in Europe it’s a different level. Specifically for this fight, I really only trained three days, “he tells GRACIEMAG.com.

“I knew the kid was strong on the ground; I watched ADCC 2009 and everything else. But MMA is different, right? Since the time I spent in the Netherlands I’ve been doing a lot of muay thai training, but the goal is always to take it to the ground. I was very confident in my game and didn’t have too many problems. The fight played out mostly standing; he tried to take me down a few times and failed. I pulled guard and he tried to spin, but I defended well and got back to my feet, “he adds.

In the end, Galiza admits he felt a bit of a lack of gas because of the pace early on, but managed to hold out for the unanimous decision. “Now I’m going back to Brazil because I have one more fight in the U.S. on May 15. I’m focusing on MMA now with all my strength, “he says, with his MMA ambitions resurrected.

Pela idade de 33 anos, o faixa-preta brasiliense Pedro Galiza costuma dizer que não tem muitas pretensões na carreira de MMA. Mas com uma vitória importante em evento ligado ao StrikeForce, pode ir parar no olho do furacão.

Galiza venceu, no sábado, o finalista do TUF Vinicius “Pezão” Magalhães, no Shark Fights 9, no Texas, onde o veterano Don Frye também lutou. Após a vitória, Pedrão retorna para o Brasil, onde já se prepara para o próximo compromisso. Ele estava com luta marcada na Eslováquia, mas teve que descansar e curar as feridas.

“Eu estava treinando para fazer uma luta na Eslováquia quando surgiu a oportunidade de lutar com o Vinny. Eu então estava mais ou menos preparado, né, porque o nível do cara na Europa era outro. Especificamente para esta luta, eu só treinei de verdade três dias”, conta ele ao GRACIEMAG.com.

“Eu sei que o moleque é forte no chão, vi o ADCC 2009 e tudo mais. Mas no MMA é diferente, né? Desde a temporada na Holanda eu ando treinando muito muay thai, mas o objetivo é sempre levar ao chão. Eu estava muito confiante no meu jogo e não tive muitos problemas, não. A luta foi mais em cima, ele tentou me botar para baixo algumas vezes e não conseguiu. Me puxou para a guarda e tentou dar um giro, mas eu defendi bem e voltamos em pé”, completa.

No fim, Galiza admite que sentiu um pouco o gás devido ao ritmo inicial, mas conseguiu segurar até a decisão unânime dos jurados. “Agora estou voltando ao Brasil, pois tenho mais uma luta nos EUA no dia 15 de maio. Vou focar no MMA agora com toda a minha força”, diz ele, com novas pretensões.
