The Brazilian living in Florida with experience in the UFC (one doctor’s-intervention loss), the WEC, Jungle Fight and the AFC, won an authoritative unanimous decision over always-game Joey Villaseñor (27w, 8l), at the Shark Events 13 event in Texas, making it to his twelfth win, with three losses.

He spoke with GRACIEMAG.com behind the scenes at SF 13, discussing his maturation and explaining how his father Master Francisco Índio was outraged, even after Villefort won his bout.

Villaseñor came in after a title fight with Ronaldo Jacaré at Strikeforce. What does this win mean to your MMA career?

I’ve been trying to get a fight with a big-name fighter for some time, and this opportunity came up at the right time. Thanks to my team, I was readier than ever to go in there and make it happen. I’ve never ducked a challenge, and I wasn’t going to let this one slip away, nor back down. Fortune favors the brave. After this win some doors opened for me, and my manager Alex Davis is taking care of it. Soon I’ll have some good news for you.

You controlled the fight well standing and on the ground. What do you feel made the difference?

Well, it was the first time my brother Marcão and Jorge Santiago were in my corner; that was excellent! In the dressing room, though, something bizarre happened. Man, I just couldn’t get warmed up for the fight. That had me kind of out of sorts, and I couldn’t stop yawning. I was so sleepy; I think it was the adrenaline. But then [Marcos] Parrumpinha, Jorginho and my brother woke me up, and I went in to fight ready.

And what did your father say about the fight?

The old man liked my performance, he just got angry about the third round, when I got taken down. He complained like crazy to Gesias [Cavalcante] and to the folks who were with him (laughs). But he saw that I was fine on bottom, and he relaxed.

Your father worked as head of security for the Brazilian senate for forty years. What are his thoughts on the presidential election coming up in Brazil on October 3^rd?

I think he knows about a lot of things we haven’t a clue about. After all, he’s been working in the field for forty years. I hope the Brazilian people get the vote right, because it would be a shame for a country as beautiful and plentiful as ours without much infrastructure. If us athletes had training centers like the ones we have here in the USA, we’d have much better results in all sports.

Ele conversou com o GRACIEMAG.com sobre os bastidores do SF 13, falou sobre o amadurecimento e explicou o que deixou seu paizão, o mestre Francisco Índio, revoltado mesmo após a vitória.

Villasenor vinha de uma disputa de cinturão com Ronaldo Jacaré, no Strikeforce. O que essa vitória pode significar para sua carreira no MMA?

Há muito tempo eu venho tentando lutar contra um cara de nome, e essa chance pintou na hora certa. Graças ao meu time, eu estava mais pronto do que nunca para ir lá e fazer acontecer. Nunca fugi de desafio, e não seria essa que eu deixaria passar, nem dar um passo atrás. A sorte acompanha os audazes. Depois dessa vitória algumas portas já se abriram para mim, e o meu manager Alex Davis está resolvendo isso. Já já vocês terão boas notícias.

Você controlou bem a luta por cima e por baixo. O que acha que fez de diferente?

Olha, pela primeira vez tive meu irmão Marcão e Jorge Santiago no meu córner, isso foi excelente! No vestiário, porém, algo bizarro aconteceu. Bicho, eu simplesmente não conseguia aquecer antes da luta. Isso me deixou meio bolado, eu não parava de bocejar. Tava cheio de sono, acho que foi a adrenalina. Mas aí o [Marcos] Parrumpinha, o Jorginho e meu irmão me acordaram, e eu entrei bem disposto.

E seu pai, o que comentou da luta?

O coroa gostou muito da atuação, só ficou puto no terceiro round, quando tomei a queda. Ele reclamou pra caramba pro Gesias [Cavalcante] e pro pessoal que estava com ele (risos). Mas viu que eu estava na boa ali por baixo, e se tranquilizou.

Seu pai trabalhou por 40 anos na chefia da segurança do Senado, protegendo figuras como José Sarney. Como ele está vendo essa eleição presidencial no Brasil, agora no próximo dia 3?

Acho que ele sabe de muita coisa que a gente não tem nem ideia né, afinal foram 40 anos trabalhando com isso. Tomara que o povo brasileiro acerte no voto, porque dá pena ver um país tão lindo e cheio de riquezas com tão pouca estrutura. Se nossos atletas tivessem CTs como a gente vê aqui nos EUA, a gente teria resultados muito melhores em todos os esportes.

Paul Daley, who was fired from the UFC after hitting Josh Koshcheck after the final bell at UFC 113, dominated three rounds against Jorge Masvidal and won by unanimous decision. Now Houston Alexander landed a string of strikes to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, obliging the referee to call an end to the fight in the second round.

In the evening’s main event, Keith Jardine, a former “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show contestant who has faced some of the biggest names of all times like Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, couldn’t get into the game against the event’s light heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley, and dropped a split decision.

O americano Paul Daley, demitido do Ultimate depois que agrediu Josh Koshchek ao final da luta válida pelo UFC 113, dominou os três rounds contra Jorge Masvidal e venceu por decisão unânime. Já Houston Alexander aplicou uma sequência de golpes em Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, que obrigou o juiz a encerrar o embate no segundo assalto.

Na luta principal da noite, Keith Jardine, que participou da segunda temporada do reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”, e enfrentou alguns dos maiores lutadores de todos os tempos, como Chuck Liddell e Wanderlei Silva, também não resistiu a má fase e foi mandando embora do UFC. No Shark Fights, Jardine não encontrou seu jogo contra o campeão dos meio-pesados do evento, Trevor Prangley, e acabou sucumbindo por decisão dividida.
