At last Sunday’s San Francisco Open, Atos fighter Luiza Monteiro had Sábatha Santos (Ryan Gracie) between her and the gold medal from the middleweight division. After enduring a scramble from the bottom and controlling one leg, Monteiro seized her chance to swiftly attack the foot of the free leg, and secured the win with a surprising move.

At the San Francisco Open held last Sunday, Keenan Cornelius again put his remarkable skills into practice.

Before closing out the absolute division with his Atos teammates, the American faced Joshua Bowlin (Gracie Barra) in the heavyweight final and did it all: started playing guard, swept, took down, worked to pass and wound up on the back. Behind his opponent, Keenan did not insist on the choke — seeing a loose arm, he went for the armbar. Then he took his time adjusting the position and got the finish without problems.

Agora de casa nova, Luiza Monteiro, faixa-preta da Atos Jiu-Jitsu, mostrou serviço de alta qualidade em ação no San Francisco Open de Jiu-Jitsu, realizado no último domingo, dia 25 de fevereiro.

Na luta pelo ouro na divisão de peso médio, Luiza encarou Sábatha Santos (Ryan Gracie). Para levar a melhor sem estender a luta, Luiza colocou a adversária no seu jogo e partiu para pegar. Depois de se embolar por baixo e dominar uma das pernas, Luiza aproveitou para atacar de forma rápida o pé da perna livre, e com o bote certo e surpresa conseguiu a rápida finalização.

Em ação no San Francisco Open de Jiu-Jitsu, realizado no último domingo, dia 25 de fevereiro, Keenan Cornelius mais uma vez colocou seu fino Jiu-Jitsu em prática.

Para faturar ouro duplo na competição, antes de fechar o absoluto com seus companheiros da Atos, o americano encarou Joshua Bowlin (Gracie Barra) na final do peso pesado e fez de tudo no combate: começou na guarda, raspou, quedou, trabalhou para passar e acabou nas costas.

Atrás do adversário, Keenan não insistiu no estrangulamento e, ao vislumbrar o braço que estava solto, atacaou no armlock. Sem pressa para finalizar, Keenan caprichou no ajuste e pegou sem maiores problemas.

The Kezar Pavilion, in San Francisco, Calif., was the stage for another one of the IBJJF’s open tournaments in the U.S. this Sunday.

In the end, the Atos team, led by André Galvão, had won seven out of 13 possible gold medals and completely covered the podium of the men’s absolute division.

Michael Lieira Jr. took middleweight gold. Lucas Hulk pulled an amazing feat as he beat the medium heavyweight field one day after shining at the Mexico City Open more than 3,500 km away. Keenan Cornelius nabbed gold at heavyweight and closed out the absolute final with Rafael Vasconcelos, with Gustavo Braguinha and Lucas Hulk coming in third.

Angélica Galvão was victorious at heavyweight, and closed out the women’s open division with middleweight champion Luiza Monteiro.

Caio Terra Association took the teams’ competition, which takes all belts into account, with their 294 points putting them ahead of Ares BJJ (221) and Atos (196).

O Kezar Pavilion, em São Francisco, na Califórnia, foi o palco para mais um Open da IBJJF nos EUA. O San Francisco Open de Jiu-Jitsu, realizado no último domingo, dia 25 de fevereiro, trouxe grandes lutas, muitas emoções e expôs o ritmo forte da equipe liderada por André Galvão para a temporada 2018.

O time da Atos, na divisão de faixa-preta adulto, faturou sete dos 13 ouros possíveis na competição, além de dominar completamente o pódio no absoluto masculino com atletas da equipe.

No masculino, Michael Lieira Jr. faturou o peso médio. No meio-pesado, quem venceu foi Lucas Hulk, depois de brilhar no México City Open no dia anterior e viajar mais de 3.500 km. Entre os pesados foi a vez de Keenan Cornelius, que também faturou o ouro no absoluto, ao fechar com Rafael Vasconcelos, seguido por Gustavo Braguinha e Lucas Hulk em terceiro.

No feminino, a festa ficou para Angélica Galvão e Luiza Monteiro. Luiza ficou com o ouro no peso médio, Angélica no pesado, e no absoluto as feras da Atos fecharam a final para a equipe.

Na disputa por equipes, a Caio Terra Association levou a melhor, com 294 pontos, seguida pela Ares BJJ, com 221, e a Atos em terceiro, com 196 pontos.

Once again the Kezar Pavillion by the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood was the stage for the San Francisco Open.

Over 500 athletes filled the venue for a whole day of thrilling competition.

Caio Terra’s Yuri Simões stood out in the crowd with a top level performance.

After getting the gold medal without having to compete in the super-heavy division, Yuri was hungry for action in the adult black belt open class.

He had three matches and all of them ended with the opponent tapping.

The first victim was Arnaldo Oliveira, caught with an armlock.

The second victim was Tanner Rice, who himself had a great performance against Rodrigo Freitas on the first round of the absolute.

In less than two minutes, Yuri got a takedown, passed Tanner’s guard, got the mount and finished with another armlock.

On the other side of the bracket, Darragh O’Connall beat Kim Terra, but them lost to Gianni Grippo.

Magid HageIV first beat Eliot Kelly with a sneaky armbar to get to the semifinal too.

Grippo and Magid battled a war of sweeps in the 50/50 to tie 4-4, leaving for the three referees to decide on the second finalist.

Two of them went for Magid.

The final was also a fast match, despite Hage being able to resist more than others.

He even had a nice omoplata in place for a second, but Yuri was able to defuse it and went about his business as usual.

He passed guard, mounted and choked Roger Gracie style.

In the weight divisions, results were:

Caio Terra got gold in the light-feather (no matches).

Kim Terra and Vitor Paschoal closed out the featherweight with Kim claiming the gold medal.

Gianni Grippo outscored Rodrigo Freitas 6-4 to win the lightweight.

Magid Hage IV used his trademark baseball choke to beat Josh Hinger in the middleweight.

Tanner Rice caught Ken Primola with an armbar to win the medium-heavy division.

Diego Herzog beat Eliot Kelly 4-0 for the heavyweight gold medal.

in the female division, only two competitors signed in – Charlene Coats and Amanda Loewen.

As in the middleweight division, Coats got the win with a 4-2 score.

In the teams competition, Ralph Gracie finished first with 214pts, followed by Caio Terra  with 193pts and Yemaso BJJ with 133pts.
