The 2016 Marianas Open is just around the corner.

The event scheduled April 16 will gather some big names this Saturday in the beautiful island of Guam.

The organizers just released the brackets for the adult male black belt division, which is worth $15k in money prizes.

Here are the paths to the bounty for each athlete registered.

Bracket 1

Felipe Pena vs. Bryant Pangelinan

Luiz Panza vs. Igor Schneider

Terrence Aflague vs. Rhalan Gracie

Keenan Cornelius vs. Guilherme Augusto

As you can see, last year’s champion, Keenan Cornelius is one side while Felipe Pena and Luiz Panza are on the other side.

Pena and Panza could meet in the semifinal while Keenan could face the always tough Rhalan Gracie on the other semifinal.

The 2016 edition of the Marianas Open is lining up to be one historic moment for Jiu-Jitsu in Guam, on April 16.

An all-star team of black belts will land in the Pacific island to compete in the open class and battle for $15k in prizes.

The champion will pocket $10k, while the runner up will get $3k and the third place will get $2k.

The 2015 champion Keenan Cornelius is back to defend his title, but he’ll have his work cut out for him.

Felipe pena, Luiz Panza, Rhalan Gracie, Bryant Pangelinan, Cristiano Kaminishi, Guilherme Augusto and Igor Schneider are also in the mix.

The Marianas Open is also an event for competitors of all ages and belt rankings.

The online registration is closed, but if you are in Guam you can still register at the Fokai store in Hagatna.

Day 2 of the XIX US Open, in Santa Cruz, California, saw local talent Nathan Mendelsohn claim the adult black belt open class division.

Nathan had two matches to reach the gold medal.

First he outscored Joe Scovel 16-0 with sweeps and guard passes.

The final was against the ultraheavy Wauriman Borges and after a 2-2 tie in points the referee decided that Mendelsohn would take first place.

Nathan talked about the strategy to win: “I played on top to make him tired and pulled guard only in the end. I noticed in his previous fights that he would most likely pass guard if the opponent pulled too soon. ”

In the other black belt divisions, results were:

Rahlan Gracie def. Nathan Mendelsohn 2-0 for the mediumheavy gold.

Diego Bispo was the lightweight champion after a 6-2 win over Israel Ceron.

Carlos Melo was the ultraheavy champion after a 3-0 win over Wauriman Borges.

Victor Paschoal won the featherweight division after a referee decision win over Davin Maxwell.

The XIX US Open had its first day this Saturday in Santa Cruz, California.

One of the most traditional events in the gentle art calendar, the US Open gathered over 600 athletes on day 1 alone.

Kids were the protagonists for the first half of the day, with fierce disputes in age divisions that ranged from ages 4 to 15 years old.

Later on, adults entered the mats with the blue belt and brown belt divisions.

Adam Dunkel was the standout with the brown belt open class title.

The US Open returns this Sunday, Oct. 26, with the black belt divisions.

The US Open XIX Jiu-Jitsu tournament takes place this weekend, Oct 25-26, in Santa Cruz, California.

With over 1,100 athletes registered, the US Open is set to be a two-day action filled event.

A cidade de San Jose, na Califórnia, recebeu no domingo, 6 de abril, a sétima edição do American Cup. Faixa-preta da equipe de Caio Terra, o peso leve carioca Osvaldo “Queixinho” Moizinho roubou a cena ao vencer o absoluto, divisão aberta para todos os pesos.

Campeão na categoria, Queixinho venceu três lutas para ser campeão no aberto. Na final, Osvaldo ignorou a diferença de peso para Marcel Fortuna e venceu por uma vantagem, ao atacar o pé de Marcel com uma americana no fim do combate.

A equipe de Caio Terra dominou também os absolutos nas faixas coloridas, com Benjamin Silva na faixa-azul, Ryan Walsh na faixa-roxa e Manny Diaz na faixa-marrom.

Os outros campeões foram:

Peso-pena: Samir Chantre venceu Joel Scovel na final.

Peso meio-pesado: Nathan Mendelsohn bateu Rhalan Gracie nos pontos e em seguida, fechou a divisão com Raul Castillo, ficando com o ouro.

Superpesado: Marcel Fortuna venceu Eliot Kelly nas vantagens.
