Move over, Anderson Silva. It appears Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is a more appealing fight than you.

According to a report on Thursday by MMAjunkie.com, a match between Bellator MMA’s Jackson and boxing’s Roy Jones Jr. is being targeted for an end-of-the-year pay-per-view.

Citing an anonymous source within Jackson’s camp, the report said that Rampage’s people and representatives for Jones have been keeping an ongoing dialogue for over half a year.

“We’ve been talking to Roy and his people over a potential ‘Rampage’ vs. Roy fight for over seven months,” the source said. “Boxing and MMA have both been discussed, and [Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney] has been in these discussions every step of the way.”

GRACIEMAG.com attempted contacting Bellator officials for comment, but messages were not returned before the time of this publication.

Leading into his loss to Chris Weidman, former UFC champ Silva was in talks to face Jones. Even after the loss, Jones was still intrigued in a fight with “The Spider.”

“It’s something the world’s been wanting to see for a long time,” Jones recently told Fuel TV when talking about a fight with Silva. “It’s an event, not a boxing match, not an MMA fight, but an event [between] two guys who have that razzle-dazzle, and when they’re focused, you can’t whoop them.”

Well, world, now you get to see Jones fight Jackson. Happy about that?

The signing involves Jackson competing in Bellator, along with TNA’s “Impact Wrestling,” which includes fellow Bellator fighter Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. Spike TV, according to the release, will also create a reality series featuring Rampage that will lead into his debut with Bellator.

“Rampage is a true superstar both inside and outside the MMA cage” Bellator CEO & Chairman Bjorn Rebney said in a statement. “The partnership that we’ve created with Quinton is unlike anything that’s ever been done in the sports & entertainment arena and Rampage is the perfect athlete/entertainer to carry it off.”

Jackson last fought in a losing effort at UFC on Fox 6 to Glover Teixeira. The fight was the former champ’s third loss in a row, and he hasn’t won more than two consecutive fights in almost six years.

“When you look at my deal in the UFC,” the fighter told TMZ today, “and the scope of what my deal with Bellator and TNA is, this is a dream come true.”

The addition of Jackson to the Bellator cage is one that was unlikely following the fulfillment of his UFC contract. Rebney, in a statement to Yahoo! Sports in January, said that Jackson didn’t fit in the Bellator format, adding that the fighter was in the later stages of his career.

“That would be one of those square-peg-round-hole situations,” Rebney said when asked if they would pursue signing Jackson. “I don’t think he would deny he’s at the latter stages of his career. He’s not in the infancy or even in the middle portion of his career.”

Rebney added that he would have to have a discussion with his people to determine if adding Jackson to the roster would be something they would consider. After today’s announcement, that discussion is over and the decision has been made.

Spike TV President Kevin Kay said that the Rampage signing will give his cable channel a boost in numbers, as Jackson’s prior drawing power serves as a clear indicator.

“We are thrilled to create this opportunity for one of the greatest athletes and personalities in MMA,” Kay said in the release. “Rampage is a proven ratings driver who brings incredible star power to both Bellator and TNA.”

More information regarding this signing will be made available at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.

Após um duelo de gigantes, protagonizado por Glover Teixeira e Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, as farpas disparadas antes do embate foram deixadas de lado e um ar de cordialidade tomou conta do cercado. Após o evento, realizado no dia 26 de janeiro, em Chicago, Glover Teixeira disse no coletiva de imprensa pós evento que é fã de Rampage, além de ressaltar o bom trabalho executado no octagon.

“A luta foi ótima. O Rampage é uma lenda do esporte e eu fico feliz de ter chegado lá e feito essa luta com ele. Lutei em pé, joguei ele pra baixo, fiz um pouco de tudo e me sinto ótimo com isso”, comemorou o mineiro de  Sobrália.

O faixa-preta, que com essa chegou à sua 18° vitória consecutiva, recebeu os parabéns por seu embate de todos em volta, inclusive de Rampage, torcendo para que a acensão na carreira de Glover só pare no topo dos meio-pesados.

“Agora eu sou seu fã. Vá pegar aquele cinturão”, torceu o lendário ex-campeão da categoria.

A brotherly mood settled in behind the scenes following UFC on Fox 6.

At the post-fight press conference that followed the Jan. 26 event in Chicago, Glover Teixeira revealed that he’s a fan of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, and also underscored the good work he carried out in the cage.

“It was a great fight. Rampage is a legend of the sport and I’m glad to have gone there and fought him,” Teixeira said during the presser on Saturday night. “I fought standing, took him down, did a bit of everything, and I feel great about it.”

The black belt, who with the fight notched his 18th win in a row, was congratulated on his performance from all sides, even by Rampage, who joins the crowd rooting for Glover’s ascension to take him to the top of the light-heavyweight ranks.

“Now I’m your fan. Go get the belt,” the former champion of the division told Teixeira after the fight.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see how the rest of the race to the belt currently held by Jon Jones goes. And there’s no lack of people in line for their crack at it.

Today’s a UFC day. And though there may not be too many big names on the main card, this sixth UFC broadcast on Fox channel boasts a card guaranteed to heat up chilly Chicago this Saturday, Jan. 26. Here’s GRACIEMAG.com’s list of the five fights likely to bring the most excitement.

5. Ryan Bader vs. Vladimir Matyushenko

A big battle in the light heavyweight division. Ryan (14 w, 3l), who signed with the UFC after winning the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, where he took out Jiu-Jitsu star Vinny Magalhães, needs to show he’s still the same hard nut to crack that outdid the likes of Keith Jardine, Rogério Minotouro and Rampage Jackson. Bader is coming off a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC on Fox 4. Across the cage from him will be Matyushenko (26w, 6l), who has been fighting since 1997. The Belorussian won back-to-back fights before getting TKO’d by Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 141. “The one with the bigger balls will win,” Matyushenko has said.

4. Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas

The featherweight tilt between Koch and Lamas is not likely to be left to the judges. Erik has a lone blemish in his 14-fight career and wants to reaffirm his place as a possible challenger to José Aldo’s throne since a clash between the two was canceled due to injury. Now, his opponent, Ricardo Lamas (12w, 2l), is undefeated in the UFC with three wins. The Jiu-Jitsu-savvy Lamas’s last outing saw him outpoint highly touted Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FX 4.

3. Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson

Flyweight titleholder Johnson (16w, 2l) previously fought up a weight class, where he even challenged bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz for his title at UFC on Versus 6. Now the kingpin in the division of the most diminutive, Demetrious won both his fights in the fledgling flyweight category to take his place as the man to beat. And now, in defending his crown for the first time, he will have his work cut out for him. John Dodson (14w, 5l), who himself has fought at bantamweight, won season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter reality show upon knocking out TJ Dillashaw. Dodson comes into the fight following a knockout win over Jussier Formiga in the second round of their encounter at UFC on FX 5.

2. Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Pettis and Cerrone lock horns in hopes of setting themselves up for a shot at the lightweight title. Pettis (15w, 2l) starred in what was elected the finest fight of 2010, landing a flying kick off the cage and knocking down current UFC champ Ben Henderson in the now-defunct WEC. Pettis is riding back-to-back wins, the latest at UFC 144 by way of knockout over the rugged Joe Lauzon. Now, Donald Cerrone (19w, 4l) has racked up four wins in the UFC since dropping a decision to Nate Diaz at UFC 141. A solid finisher and first-rate knockout artist, he has a first-round knockout over Melvin Guillard that garnered him both “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors in one fell swoop.

1. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira

Will it be Rampage’s farewell or Glover Teixeira’s welcome to the UFC’s elite? However you look at it, you’re going to like what you see. In the co-main event of the evening, Brazil’s Glover will likely stick to his all-out offensive style. Quinton (32w, 10l), a former UFC champion and major star ever since the days of Pride FC, has fought a Who’s Who of world MMA: he has defeated Murilo Bustamante, Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva, not to mention challenging Jon Jones for the title in 2011 at UFC 135, losing via rear-naked choke. Could the ground be Glover’s best bet? Savvy with takedowns and concussive with his fists, the Brazilian black belt has only two career losses and has won 12 of his 21 fights via knockout. Glover hasn’t lost since 2005, and he carries a 17-fight win streak with him into the cage tonight. Does this one promise fireworks, or what?

Mesmo sem nomes badalados na luta principal, o card desta quinta edição do UFC on Fox é honesto, e promete esquentar o clima frio de Chicago neste sábado, 26 de janeiro, com embates bem interessantes. O GRACIEMAG.com como de praxe fez sua lista das cinco lutas que devem se destacar no evento.

5. Ryan Bader vs Vladimir Matyushenko

Batalha dura na divisão dos meio-pesados. Ryan (14v, 3d), que assinou contrato com o UFC após vencer o “TUF 8”, quando derrubou o campeão de Jiu-Jitsu Vinny Magalhães, precisa mostrar que é a mesma parada dura que já superou Keith Jardine, Rogério Minotouro e Rampage Jackson. Bader vem de derrota por nocaute para Lyoto Machida, no UFC on Fox 4. Do outro lado temos o velho zelador Matyushenko (26v, 6d) que luta desde 1997. O bielorrusso Vladimir vinha de duas vitórias consecutivas até ser derrotado pelo badalado Alexander Gustafsson, no UFC 141, por nocaute técnico. “Vai vencer quem tiver mais bolas”, resumiu Matyushenko.

4. Erik Koch vs Ricardo Lamas

Os pesos-penas Kock e Lamas prometem uma daquelas lutas que não deve chegar até os jurados. O americano Erik tem apenas uma derrota em 14 lutas e quer continuar provando que é um rival à altura do campeão José Aldo, com quem lutaria em 2012 não fosse uma novela de contusões. Já seu oponente, Ricardo Lamas (12v, 2d) está invicto no UFC com três lutas vencidas em sequência. A última luta de Lamas, que é fera no Jiu-Jitsu, foi contra Hatsu Hioki, no UFC on FX4, quando venceu o japonês na decisão.

3. Demetrious Johnson vs John Dodson

Dono do cinturão dos  moscas, Johnson (16v, 2d) já lutou na categoria de cima, dos galos, quando foi superado por Dominick Cruz, no UFC on Versus 6. Entre os mais magriças, Demetrious venceu duas lutas consecutivas e sagrou-se campeão. Agora vai precisar defender seu título contra o mais duro oponente. John Dodson (14v, 5d), que também foi peso-galo, foi campeão do “TUF 14” ao nocautear TJ Dillashaw. Dodson vem de nocaute em cima de Jussier Formiga, no segundo assalto, no UFC on FX 5.

2. Anthony Pettis vs Donald Cerrone

Pettis e Cerrone se enfrentam na esperança de disputarem em breve o cinturão dos leves. Pettis (15v, 2d) já protagonizou com o atual campeão Ben Henderson a melhor luta do ano de 2010 do WEC, na edição de número 53, luta esta em que deu um knockdown em Henderson ao tomar impulso na grade e desferir um chute voador de direita. Pettis vem de duas vitórias consecutivas, a última um nocaute sobre o resistente Joe Lauzon, no UFC 144. Já Donald Cerrone (19v, 4d) vinha de quatro vitórias consecutivas no UFC até ser derrotado por Nate Diaz, no UFC 141, por decisão. Bom finalizador e nocauteador de primeira, ele vem de vitória em cima de Melvin Guillard, no primeiro round, que levou os prêmio de melhor luta e melhor nocaute da noite.

1. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs Glover Teixeira

A luta de despedida de Rampage ou a luta de boas-vindas a Glover Teixeira na elite do UFC? Seja como você encarar esta batalha dos meio-pesados, vai gostar do que vai ver. No coevento principal da noite, o mineiro Glover prometeu manter o mesmo estilo de partir para cima do lutador que fez o B.A. no filme “Esquadrão Classe A”. Quinton (32v, 10d), ex-campeão do UFC e astros desde os tempos do Pride, já lutou com praticamente meio mundo do MMA: venceu Murilo Bustamante, Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson e Wanderlei Silva – além de ter disputado, em 2011, o título com Jon Jones, no UFC 135, quando foi finalizado no mata-leão. Ex-campeão dos meio- médios, Matt Hughes (45v, 9d) teve sua aposentadoria anunciada oficialmente nesta quinta-feira, dia 24 de janeiro, pelo presidente do UFC, Dana White.

Apesar de não fazer mais parte do Ultimate dentro das oito linhas, o atleta foi nomeado vice-presidente de desenvolvimento de atletas.

“O que começou como um hobby me trouxe até o UFC e até aqui, à frente de vocês”, disse Hughes na coletiva de imprensa. “Amo esse esporte e , na nova posição que me encontro, pretendo fazer o melhor para continuar ajudando ele.”

Depois, durante a coletiva, perguntas foram disparadas aos atletas do card do UFC on Fox 6 e a Dana White.

Dentre as declarações do chefão, destaque para a felicidade dele ao lembrar que este é o segundo evento do ano em que todos os atletas do card principal vão lutar, sem precisar fazer as constantes substituições por contusão ocorridas ao longo de 2012.

Três eventos e um total de 29 lutas de MMA embalam a programação ao vivo do canal Combate nos próximos dias. No sábado tem o UFC Johnson vs Dodson, que traz entre as  atrações a disputa do cinturão peso mosca da organização com Demetrious Johnson contra John Dodson, a luta do brasileiro Glover Teixeira e o ex-campeão do UFC na categoria meio-pesado Quinton Jackson e muito mais. Entretanto, a programação ao vivo está repleta de desafios, que incluem também alguns dos melhores eventos nacionais como o Jungle Fight e o Web Fight Combat.

As transmissões ao vivo começam na sexta-feira, com a pesagem do UFC Johnson vs Dodson, a partir das 20h. Logo em seguida, a partir das 21h, vem o Jungle Fight 48, com atletas experientes no cenário nacional.

No sábado é dia de UFC Johnson vs Dodson ao vivo, a partir das 19h35min. A narração será feita por Rhoodes Lima, com comentários de Luciano Andrade. Mas o MMA ao vivo continua a toda no domingo, com o evento Web Fight Combat, a partir das 20h. Glover Teixeira is hard at work, getting ready to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the co-headliner for the Jan. 26 event in Chicago, UFC on Fox 6.

Teixeira, who has been doing his sparring with the likes of Lyoto Machida, said he’s a great admirer of Rampage and that he’s kept up with the athletes career ever since he was fighting for the now-extinct Pride FC promotion.

“Quinton is really good. I really admire him,” Teixeira admitted. “I watched a bunch of his fights at Pride, and he fights really well. It’s an honor to be able to face him. I’ll put on a great show for the fans.”

However, when asked about his plans for making a grab at the title, he says it is something he thinks about, just not something he’s concern himself with just yet.

“I think about winning the title; everyone thinks about it,” he said. “But you can’t put that first and foremost in your head. You’ve got to fight to make it there, not get trapped in the dream.”
