O canal Combate transmite nesta quinta-feira, a partir das 20h45, uma das revanches mais pedidas (e adiadas) do MMA brasileiro.

Após anos de ouro no Pride, o carioca Paulo Filho e o curitibano Murilo Ninja protagonizam o desafio principal do evento Best of the Best, que rola em Belém do Pará.

Paulo Filho, ex-campeão do WEC e lutador que já foi considerado um dos melhores do mundo na categoria de médios, concede revanche a Murilo Ninja, ex-campeão do Elite XC e irmão mais velho de Mauricio Shogun.

Paulão e Ninja se enfrentaram pela primeira vez no Pride, outrora o maior evento de MMA do mundo. Na organização japonesa, Paulão levou a melhor por decisão unânime, no confronto ocorrido no dia 2 de abril de 2006, em Tóquio.

Na época, a luta trazia a grande rivalidade das equipes que os atletas representavam. Paulão, faixa-preta de Carlson Gracie, era um dos promissores lutadores da BTT e Ninja levantava a bandeira da temida Chute Boxe, que revelou feras como seu irmão Shogun e Wanderlei Silva. Em reportagem na Revista NOCAUTE à época, Ninja disse que Paulão o anulou totalmente, com suas quedas e seu Jiu-Jitsu.

Comentarista do canal Combate, Luciano Andrade analisou a revanche: “Acredito que o Ninja esteja bem preparado. Ele não é o mesmo do Pride, mas está treinado para este desafio. O Paulão para mim é uma incógnita, pois ele teve problemas familiares recentemente – o falecimento do pai – e vem de derrotas em lutas que, se estivesse se preparando bem, teria vencido. Se ele estiver preparado, é o favorito por uma pequena margem. O Paulão treinado tem um jogo que casa bem contra o Ninja, assim como aconteceu no Pride. Ele vai buscar derrubar e trabalhar por cima”.

“Acho muito legal esta revanche em um evento nacional, a galera que curte lutas aqui no Brasil que ver lutas assim e acredito que até em outros países este é um desafio que deve despertar interesse”, completa.

Além de Paulão vs Ninja, o Best of the Best ainda traz no card atletas com experiência no MMA nacional como Bruno Carioca e André Mikito, entre outros. No card da luta principal, Ricardo Arona e Mauricio Shogun devem abrilhantar o evento e cantar o caminho da vitória.

Paulão may face Lombard, but not for the belt

After all the confusion between Paulo Filho (in the photo, by Junior Samurai) and Bitetti Combat, there is chance the fighter may end up plying his trade for the Bellator organization. A possible opponent for him in the near future is Cuban beast Hector Lombard, current Bellator middleweight champion.

However, nothing is set in stone yet and, if the fight is to take place now, says website MMAJunkie, it won’t be for the title. According to the site, citing the Bellator organization, the lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, for example, will face Josh Neer on 17 May, and the fight won’t be worth the title.

The Bellator champions of the 2009 season were decided via a GP with three fights on different dates. The current champions will have two bouts without putting their belts up for grabs, before defending their titles.

Paulão e a vitória no Bitetti Combat

Paulão Filho voltou a se apresentar bem no Bitetti Combat 5, que aconteceu em São Paulo, no dia 12 de dezembro. Contra o japonês Tatsushiko Nishizaka, um adversário mediano levando em conta o cartel de Paulada, o faixa-preta cumpriu as expectativas e finalizou ainda no primeiro round com uma chave kimura da imobilização cem quilos.

Parte da preparação para o combate foi feita na GFTeam, como o GRACIEMAG.com noticiou, uma equipe especializada na arte suave, mas que dá os primeiros passos nos treinamentos de MMA. A dúvida agora é se Paulão seguirá os treinamentos, o que garante que cumprirá.

“Vamos na crescente para tirar essa barriguinha sem vergonha daqui. Vamos pensando positivo, longe daquilo que não nos faz bem”, comenta.

Responsável pelo treinamento de Paulão, Huanderson Pavão, que tem combates no Japão, é o encarregado para puxar a orelha do lutador.

“Não vou deixar ele parar. Esta semana ele já volta a treinar de kimono com a galera, porque quero ver ele seco e em forma. Nessa luta vimos o Paulão com 40% do que ele pode apresentar. Na próxima, quero ver ele no máximo”, diz.

Huanderson vem trabalhando justo ao lado de Paulada, que, apesar de seguir a recomendação do treinador, não deixa de brincar: “O Presuntinho é um general!”, em referência ao personagem dos desenhos animados.

Paulão Filho treina na GFTeam

No final da preparação para o Bitetti Combat, que acontece neste sábado (12 de dezembro), em Barueri (SP), Paulo Filho contou com a ajuda da equipe de Jiu-Jitsu GFTeam. O lutador trabalhou no CT de MMA do time, na Max Fit.

“Gostaria de oficializar que o lutador Paulão Filho agora faz parte da equipe de MMA da GFTeam/Max Fit. Houve o contato conosco e, na terça-feira da semana passada (1 de dezembro), tivemos um encontro para discutir o futuro do trabalho e decidimos que trabalharíamos juntos”, conta o assessor do time Leonardo Cabral ao GRACIEMAG.com.

O treinamento do atleta começou no dia seguinte, quarta-feira (dia 2 de dezembro), e aconteceram em dois períodos.

“Estamos cientes que foi pouco tempo antes dessa luta, mas a dedicação, empenho e, principalmente, alegria que o atleta está apresentando tem motivado todo o grupo. Sabemos do potencial do Paulão e a postura profissional que ele vem apresentando nos deixou bastante esperançosos para um futuro vitorioso”, diz Leo.

“Neste sábado ele ainda não estará no ponto ideal que planejamos, mas, com certeza, todos terão a oportunidade de ver um Paulão bem diferente da última luta no evento do Maracanãzinho. Paulão parte para São Paulo acompanhado pelo faixa-preta Huanderson Pavão, um dos nossos treinadores de MMA, e pelo atleta faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Rodolfo Vieira”, finaliza.

Paulão: “When I’m trained I’m hard to handle”

Paulo Filho continues his battle with depression. Having relapsed, he had to cancel his October commitment to Dream. Keen to recover again, Paulão contacted promoter Amaury Bitetti repeatedly, asking to fight at the next Bitetti Combat event, to take place December 12, in Barueri.

When he saw how determined his friend was, Amaury didn’t think twice about adding Paulão to the event. The cure for depression will be his matchup with Japan’s Tatsuhiko Nishizaka. Check out the exclusive interview below:

This announcement was made with 15 days till the bout. Were you already in preparation?

I’m really focused on what I’m going to try and show. I’m working on what needs to be worked on and let’s see how far I can really go. I don’t guarantee I’ll be 100% for this fight, but my project is to follow through and show I can recover.

At the last Bitetti Combat you were criticized for performing below par. Will things be different this time?

I’m already in good shape and have been training hard for ten days. I’m lifting weight with Julio, my physical conditioning coach, and hard at it with Josuel Distak. He runs me to complete exhaustion, at fight pace. We work specifically on the fight and I feel really great. I’m training right, eating right and doing everything I didn’t do before!

Why didn’t you show up for your fight at Dream?

My head wasn’t in the right place and I ended up without enough time to get my visa. I was heavy, unmotivated.

What is it like to deal with depression? Is it a tough battle to overcome?

It’s a series things we don’t choose. It’s a really complicated disease and we always go through highs and lows. Sometimes you’re alright and sometimes sad, life loses its meaning. We’re human beings, but training properly I’m still hard to handle. That’s where I’m getting now, but I know I haven’t won the battle yet.

And what do you expect from your adversary?

I’m not concerned with that – I’ll fight whoever Amaury gives me to fight. There’ll be three five-minute rounds. I’ll fight at 88kg, with my head in the right place and I’ll be better.

Have you been keeping up with the fight scene during your down time?

I still keep up with it. I saw Dan Hardy’s fight. That kid is good, but St.-Pierre, with his greater effectiveness in Jiu-Jitsu, will have a field day with him. Bisping has also been fighting with a lot of heart. The truth is that what we see in action these days is health, defense and non-stop attacking. Technique, in some cases, is lost. I’ll still and go for technique, through Jiu-Jitsu, which is what I know how to do.

Paulão to face Japanese opponent in São Paulo

The Bitetti Combat Organization announced some changes to the card for the next event this Monday. Unfortunately, Pedro Rizzo will be unable to make it for the December 12 show in Barueri, Sao Paulo, due to injury. Nevertheless, the card is bolstered by another big name entering the scene, as Paulão Filho is tipped to be there.

“Paulao is in. He couldn’t fight in Japan recently and he’s been calling me every day, wanting to fight at Bitetti Combat. He is really determined and has been training hard to erase any poor impression he may have made. His opponent will be from Japan, we will confirm who he is later,” said Amaury Bitetti, further explaining Rizzo’s exit, “Pedro has tendinitis of the elbow and won’t be able to make it. Therefore he will fight at the following event, in Brasilia. His opponent will still be Valentin Overeem.”

Beyond that, Bitetti took the opportunity to announce the other matchups on the card.

“It seems some foreign site said Jeff Monson won’t fight. Monson is confirmed. We were set back at the last event because of some rumors on the internet. All I ask is that we be contacted before anything is announced. Nothing can be confirmed without official confirmation from the event, even if it has been copied from foreign websites. It will be a great show and we’ll make history again,” said Amaury in finishing.
