On Nov. 8, Walter “Cascao” Vital of GMA Cascao Jiu-Jitsu in Las Vegas, NV will be up north. The avid competitor who calls the master division home but also dabbles in the adult divisions from time to time has a lot of mat experience.

The black belt, who has won Pans and Worlds twice, will be in Redmond for a three-hour seminar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The seminar starts at 12 p.m. and will run until 3 p.m. at Redemption Jiu-Jitsu located at 354 E. I-30 Suite B Garland, TX.

Between April 24-27 both Caio Terra and Yuri Simoes of GMA Institute of Martial Arts will be in Oregon state for a four-day training camp at three different locations. Both black belts are active competitors and champions and since they are one both sides of the spectrum, light and heavy, their knowledge covers all bases.

On Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25, the duo will be teaching at CTA Hillsboro. On Saturday, April 26 they will teach a seminar at Ben Baxter’s Performance Martial Arts Academy in Eugene. On Sunday, April 27, they will teach another seminar at a Caio Terra Association affiliate PDX Jiu-Jitsu in Portland.

The Adamson brothers, Zach and Nathan, gathered their instructors and took the necessary training for CPR/First Aid and AED on Friday, Dec. 13. The team at Seaside Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Seaside, OR felt it appropriate to know what to do in case of any medical issues on the mat.

Zach Adamson explains:

“My brother, Nathan and I felt it was crucial for all of our coaching staff to have the proper training to deal with an emergency. As our academy grows it’s becoming increasingly important for us to make sure our students are being supervised by coaches who have completed their instructor course and are current on their CPR/First Aid and AED Certification. In the event of an emergency we’re confident our staff can utilize their CPR/First Aid training to deal with the situation. Safety has always been our number one concern and these certifications give our students and their parents the peace of mind that their child is in the right hands. Academy owners should always be looking for ways to protect the longevity of your students and being prepared for the unexpected is one way we can do just that. Train safe!”

The Adamson brothers, Zach and Nathan, have invited Irish brown belt Darragh O’Conaill to their GMA academy Seaside BJJ for a seminar on Nov. 6.

Darragh will be present at the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship Nov. 2-3 and will fly to Oregon for training with the Adamson brothers to prepare for the brown belt grand prix at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo on Nov. 9-10 in Long Beach. Darragh is an international competitor with titles from the Rome Open, London Open, European Championship and more.

Zach Adamson says, “My brother and I had the pleasure of visiting Darragh at his home base (East Coast Jiu Jitsu) this last summer in Dublin, Ireland.  We got to train twice a day for about 5 days and all the guys at East Coast made sure to show us a good time.  We saw the sights, jumped in the Irish Sea and experienced the local culture to the fullest.  Now it’s time for us to return the favor.”

The seminar will be on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m. Admission is $25 for academy members and $40 for guests.

Summertime is the American vacation window and Europe is often the most popular destination. With the newest additions on the IBJJF calendar, the Rome Open, Lisboa Open and European No-Gi Championship made the continent an even more desired location. Two Americans, who are also GMA members, traveled to all three competitions and taught a seminar in Ireland.

The Adamson brothers Zach and Nate are brown belts under Rafael Lovato Jr. who value all that the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle offers and are constantly looking to advance their skills. Traveling to the three IBJJF tournaments they fared well, gained knowledge and shared theirs.

GRACIEMAG: How did you and your brother do at Rome Open, European No-Gi and Lisboa Open?

ZACH ADAMSON: We started our journey in Rome and took silver in the featherweight brown and my brother [Nathan Adamson] took third. In the no-gi Euros I took third place.. Next we flew up to Munich, Germany to teach and train at Sanefighting, run by European brown belt Champion, Johannes Wieth. This was part of our plan to network so we can continue to teach seminars abroad and make more opportunities for our up-and-coming students to follow in our footsteps. Our next stop was Lisbon. I won in the featherweight brown belt and took third in the absolute as well.

How did your seminar in Ireland go?

Our seminar in Ireland was a huge success and we had over 30 students in attendance. We taught some of our best guard positions and the students were very receptive to the information.What can you say about the quality of European Jiu-Jitsu?

The quality was on par with that in the U.S. and I believe as Jiu-Jitsu spreads across Europe they we’ll see more and more high level black belts emerge. They love the Jiu-Jitsu life and are very eager to learn all the newest positions. All in all it was an unforgettable experience for my brother and I. We brought back IBJJF medals, taught our first international seminars and networked with many of the most influential practitioners and coaches across Europe. It’s safe to say the Adamson Bros will be back annually. We can’t say enough about how well we were treated, the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle is alive and well here!

Jiu-Jitsu in the northwest has steadily been growing over the years, a culture beyond the California, Texas and east coast meccas. Brown belt brothers Zach and Nathan Adamson are two pioneers in Oregon under Rafael Lovato, Jr. who push to help spread the art in the northwest region today. Through positivity and passion the two have created their GMA academy Seaside Jiu-Jitsu Academy to instill these attributes into others through Jiu-Jitsu.

Their most recent endeavor is the 2013 Adamson Bros Kids In-House Tournament set for April 13. The invite-only style event was created to gather the best kids in the region (ages 5-12) to all come together to battle for trophies and prizes. Zach says, “We did this event pretty much invite only style so that our facility wouldn’t be over run but we could still have the top kids from various teams all bring their kids out to the coast for the event. We have roughly 50 of the best kids confirmed from the Idaho, Seattle, Portland, and Eugene areas.”

Every competitor is guaranteed two matches.

4 Minute Matches for kids ages 7-12 year old

No dia-a-dia na casa, no entanto, Sonnen promete exibir aos telespectadores uma faceta quase insuspeita: o Chael humilde.

“Como treinador, o principal que se pode fazer é ser humilde, pois no fim das contas você não é capaz de fazer muito”, disse o lutador nativo do Oregon, em entrevista ao site MMAJunkie.com.

“O que se pode fazer é motivar. É criar um bom ambiente para os novos talentos brilharem. Eu posso encorajar, motivar e inspirar. Para um treinador, nada é mais importante do que motivar, isso é muito maior do que as técnicas passadas ou o conhecimento transmitido”, disse Sonnen, que explicou por que pode superar Jones como técnico do programa.

“Ser técnico depende de talento. Jones me parece um cara talhado para lutar, ele nasceu com esse dom, ele simplesmente sabe o que fazer lá dentro. Mas treinar requer outras habilidades, ninguém nasce com isso. Eu estou há 11 anos nesse esporte”, disparou.

Segundo Sonnen, uma das missões mais complicadas como treinador é a hora de acordar. “Criaremos um ambiente em que o lutador, ao acordar, sinta-se empolgado para levantar e ir para a academia treinar. É uma das coisas mais complicadas de fazer, é algo raro, mas vamos conseguir. Vamos garantir que os caras estejam descansados. Que estejam no peso certo. E que tenham bons instrutores em cada área”, disse Sonnen, também ao MMAJunkie.com. “A parte mental será decisiva. Alguém lá dentro vai precisar fazer uma escolha: sucesso ou falha. É este o cara que vai vencer essa parada e ganhar a vaga no UFC”.

Em comentários recentes, Dana White falou um pouco sobre as gravações do programa. Ele revelou que um dos lutadores do programa mandou todos os seus oponentes para o hospital, espalhando o terror na casa. Já especula-se que este novo talento seja o peso médio sueco Tor Troeng, 29 anos.
