A fellow Jiu-Jitsu comrade is currently battling a rare form of cancer. In order to offset the costs for such a journey, James Foster of GMA Foster BJJ has scheduled a charity seminar that gathers the top black belts in the northwest.

This seminar will be held on Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Foster BJJ located at 8256 South 192nd Street, Kent, Washington 98032.

Foster says, “Friends, please join us in helping to raise funds to support our BJJ brother Karl Walters Jr. and his family by participating in this one of a kind event featuring multiple World class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts! Karl is valiantly battling a rare form of cancer and his BJJ family has his back and is ready to face this opponent with him.”

The Adamson brothers, Zach and Nathan, have invited Irish brown belt Darragh O’Conaill to their GMA academy Seaside BJJ for a seminar on Nov. 6.

Darragh will be present at the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship Nov. 2-3 and will fly to Oregon for training with the Adamson brothers to prepare for the brown belt grand prix at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo on Nov. 9-10 in Long Beach. Darragh is an international competitor with titles from the Rome Open, London Open, European Championship and more.

Zach Adamson says, “My brother and I had the pleasure of visiting Darragh at his home base (East Coast Jiu Jitsu) this last summer in Dublin, Ireland.  We got to train twice a day for about 5 days and all the guys at East Coast made sure to show us a good time.  We saw the sights, jumped in the Irish Sea and experienced the local culture to the fullest.  Now it’s time for us to return the favor.”

The seminar will be on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m. Admission is $25 for academy members and $40 for guests.

GMA members Zachary and Nathan Adamson were promoted to the black belt this Saturday.

The leaders of Seaside Jiu-Jitsu, in Oregon, got the new rank from their Professor, Rafael Lovato Jr., also a GMA, in Oklahoma.

Lovato wrote on Facebook about the achievement of his students: “Congratulations to my two new black belts, Nate & Zach Adamson! They are my 5th & 6th ‪black belts! Now the real journey begins!”

Zach Adamson also talked about the achievement: “Thanks for all the love over the years, we wear our new belts with pride and look to be a good example for our students to follow.”

No Jiu-Jitsu, quando o adversário consegue abrir sua guarda de pernas, ele acaba na famosa meia-guarda, com apenas uma das pernas entre as suas. E agora? O que fazer, enquanto ele tenta abraçar sua cabeça e partir para o amasso?

A primeira atitude é não deixar o adversário fazer a pegada na sua lapela, como ensina nosso GMA Nathan Adamson da Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu direto de Seaside, no estado de Oregon.

A 1min19s, repare como Nathan ensina a dominar as pegadas, uma na manga e a outra na calça.

A 1min28s, o faixa-marrom chama atenção para o uso do joelho, que impede que oponente largue o peso do quadril para trabalhar a passagem de guarda.

A 1mim40s, Nathan Adamson explica como o joelho será a alavanca para raspar o oponente, e assim cair por cima e ganhar dois pontos. Repare como o joelho vai no peito do adversário, tirando toda a sua base. Com o joelho colado no peito, ele alonga o quadril e raspa.

In Jiu-Jitsu, when an opponent manages to pry open your guard, he tends to end up in your half-guard, with just one leg between your two. What now? What do you do when he tries clutching your head and squashing his way past?

Your first stance should be to keep him from getting a grip on your lapel, as our GMA Nathan Adamson of Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu teaches us direct from Seaside, Oregon.

Zach and Nate began training in 2003. Four years later, they joined Lovato’s association.

Here is what they see as their mission in BJJ: “Jiu Jitsu is a sport, a self-defense, and a complete lifestyle.
