Fabrício Werdum believed. This season, the black belt put all his chips on Jiu-Jitsu in setting his strategy for the then “Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko, who was riding a twenty-eight-fight win streak that lasted just under ten years.

The double attack, a variation of the triangle to set up an armbar, was amply discussed on GRACIEMAG.com and in Gracie Publishing publications. The move didn’t just yield the Brazilian the win, but seven awards and the covers of GRACIEMAG and NOCAUTE magazines.

“The submission against Fedor earned me seven prizes. Two from ESPN, two from Inside MMA, two from Strikeforce, and on at the MMA Awards! Iradooo!! (something like “siiick!!” in Brazilian slang,” said a jubilant Werdum over Twitter.

Fabrício Werdum acreditou. Nesta temporada, o faixa-preta apostou tudo no Jiu-Jitsu numa estratégia contra o então “Último Imperador” Fedor Emelianenko, que estava há 28 lutas sem perder, pouco menos de dez anos.

This Wednesday the MMA Awards took place in Las Vegas. The event is considered to be the Oscar of the fight world, and elects the sport’s best of the year.

Of the main categories, José Aldo was the standout, edging out beasts like Anderson Silva. The title of best female fighter went to Strikeforce champion Cris Cyborg.

For those big on Jiu-Jitsu, Fabrício Werdum took best submissio honors for the slick double attack that toppled the “Last Emperor”, Fedor Emelianenko. Now if knockouts are what get you going, that title went to Maurício Shogun for his light heavyweight-title-winning knockout of Lyoto Machida.

Another important award, best fight went to Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen for the fight the Brazilian won in the eleventh hour with an armbar from the triangle.

Now best team went to Wanderlei Silva’s Wand Fight Team. The best event, as one would imagine, went to the UFC, and Dana White, the promotions president, won for best leader.

Aconteceu nesta quarta-feira, em Las Vegas, o MMA Awards, evento que elege os melhores do ano no vale-tudo, considerado o Oscar da luta.

Nas principais categorias, José Aldo foi o maior destaque, atleta do ano, tendo batido feras como Anderson Silva. O título de melhor lutadora do ano foi para Cris Cyborg, campeã do Strikeforce.

Para quem gosta de Jiu-Jitsu, a finalização do ano ficou com Fabrício Werdum, o eficiente ataque duplo que derrubou o “Ultimo Imperador” Fedor Emelianenko. Agora, se a preferência é o nocaute, o título é de Maurício Shogun, no triunfo que valeu o cinturão de meio-pesados do UFC, contra Lyoto Machida.

Outra premiação importante, a melhor luta foi a entre Anderson Silva e Chael Sonnen, vencida pelo brasileiro nos últimos minutos, com uma chave de braço de dentro do triângulo.

Já a melhor equipe foi a Wand Fight Team, de Wanderlei Silva. O melhor evento, como todos imaginavam, saiu para o UFC, assim como Dana White, presidente da organização, ficou como melhor líder.
